The service was so attentive and friendly, but the food, gross. We love love Mexican food, but this was a miss! The chips and salsa tasted just like the la Victoria salsa mix from the jug, and the chips were just plain. My hubby got el tajero? Taco. While the size was huge, the meat was florally! Walked in and was asked how many. I held up 4 fingers. The hostess looked at us and went back to what she was doing. Five minutes later she finally moved and walked us back to a table. Mind you no one had walked out for at least the last 10 minutes. So I don't think they were waiting for a table to open up. We are sat in the back in a booth. The server comes over after we sat there for about 10-15 minutes and gives us water and walks away. Doesn't ask us our drink order. Finally she returns and takes drink orders with food order. I order a beer and wife drinks orders a mimosa. (Champagne in one glass and orange juice in another) 20 minutes later after we reminded her she finally goes and brings the drinks and the food comes out a couple minutes later. Does not take that long for a beer, a glass of OJ and a glass of champagne. I had good memories of this place, that a good friend invited me to join him to eat. My mom always wants to eat here and I go with her just to make her happy but I consistently am frustrated with the service. Today Genna was our server and once again we sat around needing her and she was nowhere. Once I was able to make eye contact with her but she zoomed off and ignored me. I got a bus boy to get me some water and napkins, afterwards I saw the bus boy use the broom and dustpan then prepare drinks for customers without washing his hands. The food was delicious and I love the atmosphere but it's really hard to make myself eat here anymore. My mom's gonna be sad. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at Habanero Hots because of the customer service. The staff came across as rude, dismissive, and uninterested in helping customers. I felt like I was inconveniencing them just by asking simple questions. Instead of being welcomed, I left feeling frustrated and disrespected. Habanero Hots in Lodi was our dinner meeting place yesterday for myself, my wife and her adult children and their spouses. Upon arrival, I immediately liked the place, judging it from the exterior. It reminded me of Old Mexico or extreme southern Texas back in the fifties. Upon opening the entrance door, the sound of Ranchero music greeted us before a lady immediately led us to a table, walking past (through) the bar on the way. The bar looked well stocked, both with alcohol and patrons enjoying their libations. We were seated in the next room at a beautiful tiled top table which was plenty large for a party of six. Looking around, it was evident there were more similar rooms branching off ours. Nice. We were waited upon quickly and happily. Our meals were brought in a timely manner and on very hot plates for most of the dishes. I chose their Chili Colorado, which the menu boasted had won the California State Chili Cook-off. Chimichangas were ordered by a few of us. Tacos by others. House salad or taco soup was served With the plated meals. All around, food was good, the service better. We all had a nice gathering. To me, I'd say the food was average to very good. My Chili Colorado, (Texas Chili to me) was good, but very salty. Others said their chimichangas were good also I would definitely return sometime if I had opportunity to return to Lodi, to try the Chili again and enjoy their ambiance of an old memory. All in all I would say 3 stars for food. But the old country setting and decor along with great and friendly service bumps it up to 4 stars. read more

The decor was really nice! This is a huge restaurant and while not authentic (necessarily) the food was pleasantly surprising. We all enjoyed our dishes except for my mom specifically order the taco salad to receive the taco shell, however it came in a bowl and was very plain tasting and looking! I decided to stop here again on my way home for a to go dinner of ground beef Ranchero enchiladas. I really enjoy this dinner and I also enjoy the soup and salad just as much. There isn't many restaurants that have such great options offered to those people who order a lunch/dinner plate. Most of the time the salads are just that mix of lettuce, cabbage, carrots and maybe slices of cucumbers if you're lucky, served with an average salad dressing. But as I've mentioned before this restaurant goes above and beyond with their salad. They have a mixture of different beans on top of salad and cucumbers along with a different type of salad dressing. I haven't been able to figure it out yet. I'm assuming it's a house dressing. I really like it though. Oh and something I haven't really seen much at other restaurants that they do here is put crushed chips on top as well. That added crunch is just what the salad needs to make it a favorite in my book and always leaves me wanting more and/or excited to eat it again the next time I visit. Which leads me to my visit today. As I said already, I ordered a plate to go and spoke with a young lady. I'm not sure of her name. She was friendly and helped me out with the menu as I couldn't remember the name of the enchiladas I usually get. I was waiting for her to ask me if I wanted soup or salad because I was going to tell her that I wanted both and would pay for the extra option but she wasn't asking me so I quickly asked if soup or salad is included because I realize some restaurants only offer that to customers sitting down and eating there. Her reply to me was that tonight only salad is available so I told her OK and asked if she would please put the salad dressing on the side so I could add it myself when I got home since I didn't want my salad be soggy and wilted. She said ok. However when o got home which was a half hour later I opened my bag to a mess. My salad had dressing on it and it spilled all over in my bag because it tilted. If I would have known the salad was dressed I would have been more careful. I assumed the dressing was in cup not spilling everywhere. So I'm disappointed about not having soup and now my salad is not something I want to eat. The other food however was really good like always. I will be back of course. I enjoy the food there and it's a comfortable restaurant with a great atmosphere. I just need to double check my to go orders for now on. read more

I took my daughter here last Sunday for brunch and I was pleasantly surprised. Looking at some of the Yelp reviews I was a little skeptical but everything about our experience was really good except for a little bumpy service. If you read my reviews you will know I judge 1st on chips and salsa they nailed it! Great homemade salsa and cabbage and the only thing better would've been homemade chips. Margaritas were really good and actually tasted like tequila! Nothing that irritates me more when it's all mix and no tequila. These were very tasty. For food I had the chili verde with an over easy egg and my daughter had the carne asada. Both of us loved our meals and I look forward to coming back for more. This review is solely based on the food because the service was great! Our server went above and beyond to make my mom feel special. The food was sooooo bland and not actual mexican food. It's like they forgot that Mexican food is supposed to be packed with flavor and spices. All the lettuce that came with the dishes was wilted, rice was bland, enchilada sauce tasted like tomato sauce, salsa had to be from a pace picante salsa jar, chicken was bland and dry. We have always enjoyed Habanero Hots for dine in dinners. Their menu is extensive and staff is terrific. We recently called on them for a catering order of their Enchilada casserole, chicken and beef tacos as well as rice and beans. Food was delicious with generous portions. Location is also what I feel is more in an industrial area versus a business center area but still it seems that they have a good clientele that comes to the location. Not too bad I had the cheese enchiladas, I felt like they were with too much cheese or just really thick with the side of rice and beans chips and salsa or flavorful not really on the spicy side. Overall, the service was good. Had a quick lunch bite to eat and went on about our day. They do have a small bar area for alcoholic drinks. Traveled to Lodi for business and this place was recommended by locals. Arrived to a pretty full parking lot, walked in and there was no one waiting to be seated. They told us it would be a few minutes as they were clearing and cleaning some tables. Another couple walked in. The hostess said they are starting a waiting list. They asked for my name as we were there first. Several more parties walked in and added their names to the list and now the waiting area was full. I remained within 5 feet of the hostess station. I even saw the manager/owner, man in charege mess with the list. I guess to show someone how it works. After a few minutes, they called the couple that had walked in after us. I went and checked the list and my name was scratched out. I asked why, and was told that they had called my name and didn't get an answer. Again I was never more than 5 feet from the hostess stand and never heard my name called. When asked who called my name, no one could answer that they did. I guess the big guy did not recognize me as a regular and did for the second guy and scratched my name out. They did put my name on the list again, however we decided to eat elsewhere.
