Stopped by Fondita after a recommendation from my cousin and he delivered! Let's get into it... Ambiance - Fondita is a smallish restaurant, but can still cater to groups big or small. The maximum occupancy is 49 people, but it felt roomier inside than that. The decor is okay and the place seemed clean overall. Service - Service was pretty good. Our server was very friendly, and service wasn't bad. The only blemish was she did not check in on refills very frequently. I managed to get one, but my wife did not. By the time she asked again, we had finished our meal and were ready to go. A pretty small blemish, and not a dealbreaker for us. Food - The food was outstanding. My wife got the fajitas and they looked great! She loved them. I got the alambres and they were fantastic. Add in the homemade tortillas (both flour and corn) and it's an easy five stars! Their rice, beans, and salsa were all good too. No complaints at all with the food. Overall, I'd definitely come back again. The food was great, the people were super friendly and welcoming, and we were able to get a table right away. It's very close to the freeway, so when coming from out of town it's an easy on/off too. WOW!! This hole-in-the-wall restaurant in the old Big Lots parking lot just became my favorite Mexican restaurant in town! We came here on a whim last weekend, and OMG, I'm so glad we did. The restaurant is small and not in the greatest location, but the food was absolutely delicious and the service was excellent. I can't wait to go back! The tortilla chips are a mix of corn and flour, which was a nice surprise. Literally everything we ordered was so good! I went with the build-your-own combo plate and chose a cheese enchilada, beef taco, and beef flautas. My entire plate was delicious, including the rice and beans. The homemade tortillas were so fresh and tasty. Everyone in our party of four enjoyed their food. We split the three-piece quesabirria tacos, and they were excellent. I chose the gravy cheese enchilada for my combo plate, but I also tried my partner's green chili chicken enchilada--both were great. You can choose between red, green, or gravy sauce for the enchiladas, and I definitely want to try the red next time. Don't be turned off by the unassuming storefront and corner location. So sad to have to update my review. The food went wayyyy downhill. I'm not sure if they got a new chef or what but it no longer has the same quality it used to when first leaving my review. The service has declined as well. The waitress in the glasses (Janet) i think is her name. Is very rude and doesn't have good customer service. The other girls are okay they're nice and have good customer service. The tortillas are still good tho. I will most likely not be returning anymore. read more

This place has been on my must try list for a while and I'm so happy it did not disappoint. I came here for brunch with my family on a Sunday and it was pretty busy but we were seated right away. This is not a very big restaurant, but it felt cozy and very welcoming. The salsa was absolutely delicious and the chips were nice and warm. I ordered the machaca and eggs which comes with rice, beans, and tortillas. Everything was very good and flavorful. Their tortillas are also handmade and a must try. The staff was super friendly, and very attentive. This food is so good and I can see why it stayed busy on a Sunday morning. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Just an update-- All new menus on Monday, 1/26/2026. And they serve micheladas, Mexico's version of a Bloody Mary (with beer instead of vodka). The Chili Relleno was average at best. But four stars for the Michelada. read more

Came here on Sunday for lunch with family. The spot is nice and comfy. Good seats. Customer service was great. Everyone was very kind and helpful. They kept the waters filled and the chips coming. I ordered a taco salad de asada and it was 5stars. So great. Full of flavor in every bite. I loved it. The meat was so tender and great. My gf loved her chicken taco, cheese enchilada with rice and beans. Her niece loved her carne asada fries. It was great. The steak meat was perfect. The absolute best part of the meals was the fresh handmade flour tortillas!!! Those brought me back to my grandmas homemade ones. Highly recommend you add flour tortillas to your order. We discovered this Mexican restaurant after finding out that bar/grill place a few doors down wasn't serving dinner today. I quickly checked the Yelp reviews and most were positive for the food except for a few referencing bad service from a particular server. Well, as soon as we entered Fonditas, both servers welcomed us from across the restaurant. Our server, Itzel, was very friendly and engaging to our group. We were impressed at the wide ranging menu and particularly the larger than usual selection for combo plates. For example you don't usually find flautas, tamales, tostadas or chimichangas as a combo choice beyond tacos, enchiladas, chili rellenos. We were impressed at the generous portions. Lots of refried beans and rice accompanied my combo trio, that included an exceptionally big chicken tamale smothered in gravy. I was so full that I couldn't touch the Chimi and enchilada that I took home for tomorrow's lunch. My spouse chose the beef taco and was it chunky thick with chili Colorado. I do think Fondita's beef and pork out shines their chicken that I felt was dry and short of flavor. Our party of four tried the 3 Quesabirrias as an appetizer but it truly is a stand alone meal in itself consisting of three generous fried tacos full of rich stewed beef and cheese. Accompanying this trio is a bowl of thin dipping sauce which I am curious of why, since the taco is so stout in itself. The accompanying yummy tortillas, both corn and flour are thick, handmade fresh, piping hot, to die for! Service by Itzel was impeccable as she checked on our party numerous times and accommodated our requests. The restaurant sure filled up quickly after 6pm with loyal patrons. We certainly will be back for I want to try their Camarones al Mojos (garlic shrimp), fajitas, that whole fried fish I saw a diner feasting on. My spouse is a menudo and pozole soup fan and he wants to try their sampler soup trio. Fonditas is located right off I-5, Country Club exit in a sketchy looking shopping center anchored by a Safeway. Finally a GREAT Mexican restaurant, with AUTHENTIC Mexican food! Great portions, clean dining area, and prices aren't terrible. The only thing that bothered me is one of the employee's attitude. She's attentive but always seems like she's in a rush even when the restaurant is slow, and talks to you like a robot. A very fast one. Very emotionless. Other than that service is great. My favorite plates so far are the chile rellenos and the chile colorado plates. Crossing my fingers they never change portion sizes! They're doing amazing so far, I've kept going back. 1st time/last time.. i came with my mom and my kids to try this place because the food online looked really good and the reviews were good, but unfortunately the food wasn't the best... the tortillas were good and so was the rice and beans but you can't really mess that up the fish fillet lacked flavor and tasted like it wasn't washed. My daughter found a hair in her bean and cheese burrito, they did remake it but we still got charged. Once we found that hair it was hard to even feel comfortable eating our meals the chicken quesadilla was good. As a 3rd generation Japanese American, I'm not sure how valid it is for me to say this is authentic Mexican food. With that being said, you don't have to take my word for it, all of my friends who are from Mexico tell me it is. They say the style of food is from the Michoacán area. My favorite is the Carne Asada Super Burrito, which is wrapped in a homemade tortilla. It is basically two meals, half now and half for lunch the next day. We were in the area and craving for some Mexican food. I ordered take out for us, a Super Burrito and Chile Verde. The lady said it will be ready in 10 mins. Once I arrived, the restaurant was very busy during lunch. All of the table were taken so I believe the food is very good. The lady said my order would take another 5 mins so I had to wait. I didn't mind since they are very busy. The super burrito was huge so I wasn't able to finish it. The steak was cooked well, not over or under cooked. My wife enjoyed the Chile Verde too. I went here on a Sunday to grab some food my for family. I ordered a super Al pastor burrito, a carne asada burrito, and 2 tacos. I called and placed the order, and headed that way to pick it up. The lady on the phone was a bit rude and I felt rushed like she needed to take my order since it's busy. I get there and it's not busy, I paid and waited for my order. The restaurant is pained an orange color and it was your typical old school Hispanic restaurant vibe that made it feel like home. I received my order and headed home, I asked for extra jalapeños and hot sauce and didn't receive it. Once I got home and tried the burritos, the super burrito tortilla is hand made, but the regular burrito was just a store bought burrito. Which was disappointing because we went there for the handmade burrito. The Al pastor and asada lacked flavor for us. I think if we went back, we would try something different especially since we didn't get to sit down and enjoy our meal. It might make a difference read more

The reason for this review is for the customer service and quality of restaurant, I ate here and let me tell you this place looked quite nasty and unclean. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ate there anyways. Today however I had a very disappointing and disrespectful encounter with the a woman in glasses who was helping me get an order in had called in. She was very rude. Very unhelpful and did not make me feel welcome like how many other restaurants do. I did not catch her name because I was in shock on how rude she was being considering a restaurant atmosphere should be very welcoming. This is one of my family's favorite Mexican restaurants in the area -- a true hole-in-the-wall in the best way. It's tucked into a nondescript strip mall next to a big, empty Big Lots building, but don't let the location fool you. The food is absolutely worth seeking out. Everything I've tried has been delicious and full of flavor: the chile rellenos, eggs with nopales, carne en su jugo, menudo, pozole, and enchiladas have all been excellent. The chile relleno especially stands out -- easily the best I've had in the area, with incredible flavor for such a simple dish. They also serve multiple salsas (all great in their own way) and warm homemade tortillas, which really elevate the meal. The space is small and it gets busy -- especially on weekends -- so expect a possible wait, but service is friendly and efficient once you're seated. If you're looking for authentic, comforting Mexican food with big flavor in an unpretentious setting, this place is a must. Can't wait to keep working my way through the menu. read more

I'm not sure how I feel about this place, for me it was just okay. But I've only went once and I ordered the chilaquiles. It was pretty watery and I didn't taste any salt. BUT my in-law ordered beef tacos and they looked sooooo good so I'm gonna have to try that next time and they do have homemade flour chips and tortillas so that's a big plus in my book. Okay yall... Stockton ain't sleeping on Mexican food. Definitely bomb asf. I don't have any pictures cause for once, my mouth ate before my phone. I ordered a taco salad as it is one of my fav dishes due to the shell. My colleagues ordered the super burrito. First, portions are not stingy, I actually had too much chicken in my food and that's not a bad thing for a lot of people! The size of the burrito was about the size of an avg forearm. Deliciously flavored and seasoned asada I heard. Now the only thing I will say, and it's not a bad thing, me personally I have dietary restrictions, so it was hard to select a meat choice. I did choose chicken but it is covered in a red sauce, which technically I can't eat either. lol either way, it was a great experience. Now I do wanna touch base on two comments I read on here before walking in about a "rude" server. Pretty sure she took us as a table due to her seamer when we said 3 separate tabs. If I could give zero stars, I would. I never thought I'd be writing a Yelp review, but this experience was bad enough to warrant it. First, my waitress, Arlona, or what ever it is was extremely unprofessional. Her attitude, facial expressions, and overall demeanor were unpleasant from the start and made me feel like I was an inconvenience rather than paying customers. Second, the food was a complete disaster. I ordered the birria tacos and became sick shortly after eating them -- I threw everything up as soon as I got home. That alone would be reason enough not to return. I'm usually a very generous tipper, but even leaving 18% felt wrong given the service and the outcome.
