This place has been on my must try list for a while and I'm so happy it did not disappoint. I came here for brunch with my family on a Sunday and it was pretty busy but we were seated right away. This is not a very big restaurant, but it felt cozy and very welcoming. The salsa was absolutely delicious and the chips were nice and warm. I ordered the machaca and eggs which comes with rice, beans, and tortillas. Everything was very good and flavorful. Their tortillas are also handmade and a must try. The staff was super friendly, and very attentive. This food is so good and I can see why it stayed busy on a Sunday morning. I will definitely be coming back.

    Brand new menu - 1/26/2026

Just an update-- All new menus on Monday, 1/26/2026. And they serve micheladas, Mexico's version of a Bloody Mary (with beer instead of vodka). The Chili Relleno was average at best. But four stars for the Michelada.

Came here on Sunday for lunch with family. The spot is nice and comfy. Good seats. Customer service was great. Everyone was very kind and helpful. They kept the waters filled and the chips coming. I ordered a taco salad de asada and it was 5stars. So great. Full of flavor in every bite. I loved it. The meat was so tender and great. My gf loved her chicken taco, cheese enchilada with rice and beans. Her niece loved her carne asada fries. It was great. The steak meat was perfect. The absolute best part of the meals was the fresh handmade flour tortillas!!! Those brought me back to my grandmas homemade ones. Highly recommend you add flour tortillas to your order. The prices are great too. I highly recommend this place. I will be coming here anytime I am in the Stockton area.

We have been here about five times. This time I switched it up and got the asada super burrito wet with enchilada gravy. It was a beast and tasted great. Did my best to eat it all but brought home a little less than half.

    Quesabirrias trio

We discovered this Mexican restaurant after finding out that bar/grill place a few doors down wasn't serving dinner today. I quickly checked the Yelp reviews and most were positive for the food except for a few referencing bad service from a particular server. Well, as soon as we entered Fonditas, both servers welcomed us from across the restaurant. Our server, Itzel, was very friendly and engaging to our group. We were impressed at the wide ranging menu and particularly the larger than usual selection for combo plates. For example you don't usually find flautas, tamales, tostadas or chimichangas as a combo choice beyond tacos, enchiladas, chili rellenos. We were impressed at the generous portions. Lots of refried beans and rice accompanied my combo trio, that included an exceptionally big chicken tamale smothered in gravy. I was so full that I couldn't touch the Chimi and enchilada that I took home for tomorrow's lunch. My spouse chose the beef taco and was it chunky thick with chili Colorado. I do think Fondita's beef and pork out shines their chicken that I felt was dry and short of flavor. Our party of four tried the 3 Quesabirrias as an appetizer but it truly is a stand alone meal in itself consisting of three generous fried tacos full of rich stewed beef and cheese. Accompanying this trio is a bowl of thin dipping sauce which I am curious of why, since the taco is so stout in itself. The accompanying yummy tortillas, both corn and flour are thick, handmade fresh, piping hot, to die for! Service by Itzel was impeccable as she checked on our party numerous times and accommodated our requests. The restaurant sure filled up quickly after 6pm with loyal patrons. We certainly will be back for I want to try their Camarones al Mojos (garlic shrimp), fajitas, that whole fried fish I saw a diner feasting on. My spouse is a menudo and pozole soup fan and he wants to try their sampler soup trio. Fonditas is located right off I-5, Country Club exit in a sketchy looking shopping center anchored by a Safeway. Don't let the area deter you from discovering this local gem.

Second time getting delivery. Picked up last time. UNREAL. It's delicious and HOT every time. The tortillas heat up my hands I have to play hot potato. How could you not love that. The people that work here are top notch. Great vibes.

Chile Relleno & Enchilada Plate. 10/10

Finally a GREAT Mexican restaurant, with AUTHENTIC Mexican food! Great portions, clean dining area, and prices aren't terrible. The only thing that bothered me is one of the employee's attitude. She's attentive but always seems like she's in a rush even when the restaurant is slow, and talks to you like a robot. A very fast one. Very emotionless. Other than that service is great. My favorite plates so far are the chile rellenos and the chile colorado plates. Crossing my fingers they never change portion sizes! They're doing amazing so far, I've kept going back. The quesadilla was a bit too bland for my taste, but my husband loved the asada burritos. Be there early because that place gets PACKED on the weekends!

Sometimes you can't judge a book by its cover! I discovered it by accident when I was shopping at Daily Deals. It's in an aging strip mall so I didn't even notice it at first. The restaurant is clean, bright and cheerful. The food is excellent, and the service is even better!! They all seem like one big happy family. They are all kind and so attentive!! They make homemade flour and corn tortillas and the food is always hot and fresh. We've gone back several times. I highly recommend Fondita Mexican Restaurant. You won't be disappointed!!

Local small business with homemade tortillas! Amazing food! The salsa they serve on table is delicious and fresh. 10/10. The chips taste like from a bag 6/10. The combination fajitas were so good! Came out sizzling hot. Full of flavor from the grilled vegetables. 11/10 better than delicious! Enchiladas (chicken) gravy is delicious! 9/10 lack of cheese so minus one point but still delicious! Crispy chicken taco excellent! 10/10. Rice is 7.5 out of ten. Good but not great. Beans 10/10 homemade flour tortillas are huge! Beyond delicious 100/10. Best I have ever had! There are several servers and the business is pretty small inside but they stayed consistently busy and seating remained full without turning guests away or having them wait for a table. The ambiance is traditional and resembles the culture. Parking is abundant. Overall this place is a hidden gem! I'm so glad I was able to try their food and will be going back again and again!

    Carne Asada Super Burrito
    John N.

As a 3rd generation Japanese American, I'm not sure how valid it is for me to say this is authentic Mexican food. With that being said, you don't have to take my word for it, all of my friends who are from Mexico tell me it is. They say the style of food is from the Michoacán area. My favorite is the Carne Asada Super Burrito, which is wrapped in a homemade tortilla. It is basically two meals, half now and half for lunch the next day. I've been bringing out of town friends here for years, and they all love it. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll like it!

Our table was right next to a metal utility rack they were using to store menus and cleaning products. That's fine, but my head was close to a spray bottle and a bottle of Lysol, which wasn't ideal. They were very busy, so we had high hopes for great food. Unfortunately, many of the items were bland. The beans and rice were especially underwhelming, with very little flavor--you can tell from the picture that the rice is basically plain white rice. My flautas were crunchy with fresh toppings, but the meat lacked flavor. My meal came with a bowl of fideo, but it wasn't delivered before my meal like it was for other tables. In fact, I had to ask for it after our food arrived, which makes me think I wouldn't have received it otherwise. After we finished eating, it took about 15 minutes to get our check. The servers were clearly very busy, but it would have been nice to leave sooner. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back. The noise level was overwhelming, and the food was just okay. If I did return, I wouldn't order anything that comes with beans and rice.

I chose La Mesa because the first time we went I was very impressed with the delicious drinks and the short rib enchiladas. The atmosphere is so special and intimate whether you're on a date or with family. Both times we went, our servers were friendly and checked on us appropriately. Our server yesterday was handling making drinks at the bar and serving other tables that were there for Valentine's Day, but she still provided us with really good customer service (not sure of her name but she was wearing a pink shirt). We ordered a few drinks that included a strawberry horchata with rum, and a special one for Valentine's Day called the cupids kiss. They really stood out to me with how cute and yummy they were. For an appetizer, we ordered birria French fries. I was surprised that it had the consommé because I assumed it would make the fries soggy.... But it did not! They were AMAZING. The birria was tender and delicious, the flavor had a lot of depth in the consommé. For our entrees, we both cannot get enough of the short rib enchiladas with the mole sauce. They are our favorite. I really am just grateful that there is a restaurant like this that cares about the food they share with their customers. In the past, we ate at restaurants for my birthday where they didn't take as much pride or care about what they served. My birthday dinner at La Mesa felt very special to me and my boyfriend. Thanks a bunch we look forward to our return visit!

Pros: - local!!! -…read morestaff very welcoming Room for improvement: - something about this place is missing the mark. It's owned by the same people who run Market Tavern and Prime Table. La Mesa is the forgotten child. When going to MT and PT it feels upscale and an experience, with excellent food to boot! But La Mesa's ambiance, food and asmosphete is just not hitting the same. I bet with some aesthetic adjustments and a shift to more upscale dining like their sister restaurants this has a lot of potential. Did I hear someone say live music acoustic guitar or flamingo shows may help? Overall: - improve the quality of food and adjust the ambiance and this maybe another winner
