The restaurant is quite cramped inside and very noisy. There were several TVs on, along with what sounded like two different types of music--Spanish music behind me and older pop music on the other side of the restaurant. Our table was right next to a metal utility rack they were using to store menus and cleaning products. That's fine, but my head was close to a spray bottle and a bottle of Lysol, which wasn't ideal. They were very busy, so we had high hopes for great food. Unfortunately, many of the items were bland. The beans and rice were especially underwhelming, with very little flavor--you can tell from the picture that the rice is basically plain white rice. My flautas were crunchy with fresh toppings, but the meat lacked flavor. My meal came with a bowl of fideo, but it wasn't delivered before my meal like it was for other tables. In fact, I had to ask for it after our food arrived, which makes me think I wouldn't have received it otherwise. After we finished eating, it took about 15 minutes to get our check. The servers were clearly very busy, but it would have been nice to leave sooner. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back. The noise level was overwhelming, and the food was just okay. If I did return, I wouldn't order anything that comes with beans and rice. read more

My husband made this choice for our lunch. We were in Stockton for an event and we needed to get lunch. If you had blindfolded me, I would've thought this meal in front of me was homemade with the best grandmas in the kitchen. This was the best Mexican dish I have ever had. We have been coming here for years since my son is a student at UoP. We eat here every time we visit. Family owned with friendly wait staff. Family friendly environment. They have a large menu and I usually try a new dish every time. All of the dishes are freshly made and have authentic tastes and flavors. Hearty fresh tortillas served hot. Was in town and was craving Mexican cuisine and wanted a sit down experience. Came across this spot when driving around. This spot definitely did not disappoint. The ambiance inside was really chill and homey. Felt authentic. They were playing Spanish music and many families were dining together. The service was okay. Definitely could be better but the star of the show is the food. The food was amazing. I ordered a plate full of stuff, tender meat, rice, beans, cropped up vegetables. I left the plate empty and clean. That's how good it was. Everything was seasoned good and the meat was super tender. I didn't have to chew. Overall I give this restaurant a solid 4/5 star review. Inside El Chilango Chido is tightly packed seating, a narrow walkway to get to the cashier, and a semi open kitchen concept. Multiple TVs are active along the walls playing various television channels. Outside is a small patio for outdoor seating. Upon entering it was unclear whether we seated ourselves or should wait to be seated (wait to be seated). Employees hustled about in the confined space to deliver food and tend to tables. Think casual Mexican diner -- that even serves American breakfast! But we were here for lunch. We ordered a Birria taco, carnitas taco, and shredded beef Flautas. The Birria taco was cheesy and generously filled with dense meat, but lacked a lot of flavor. On the other hand the consume was very flavorful and helped make up for the slightly disappointing Birria taco. The Flautas were good crispy Flautas with a strong crunch, but the rice and beans that came with it were bland. The best item we ate was the carnitas taco. The street tacos are small (4 inch diameter) but there was a good amount of meat and additions to it. The carnitas taco was tasty and left me wishing I had ordered another. The service here was okay. It's a busy place. The employees are working hard but after our plates were cleared it took the staff about 15 minutes to bring by our check. This is the kind of place where you don't come for the atmosphere or service, you come for the food. But the food left a bit to be desired in the flavor department. While I would come back to give the restaurant another shot, I think I would stick to the street tacos. read more

Service was amazing and is the reason I am giving this place four stars. My coworker got enchiladas potosinas. The potato inside was good but the rice and beans were cold. She was also hoping for dishes with more vegetables and less cheesy. My other coworker enjoyed the menudo flavors but is not used to tripe. The tortillas in my shrimp tacos were hard. The interior is very nice and the location is right next to one of my favorite ice cream places. My son and I love this place! First off the staff here are very welcoming and sweet. They are very prompt with taking our orders, bringing us food, and often refilling my water that I go through like a fish. lol The food is so good! I always get their Chile Colorado and I love that you also get Fideo with their lunch orders. The flour tortillas remind me of the ones that were made at Suzy's Mexican restaurant and we really miss that place. The restaurant itself is small, but you don't feel crowded when dining inside. We have lived in Stockton our whole lives and passed by El Chilango Chido all the time, so glad we stopped by for breakfast! My husband ordered the Chilaquiles Rojos (red sauce), he loved them so much! The red sauce definitely had a kick to it, we both love spicy food. Chef's kiss on the sauce! I had the chile relleno, I was really impressed. Stuffed with the right amount of cheese, nicely fried in the egg batter, and the sauce soaked up nicely! Also, the portions are huge, so bring your appetite! Our waiter was awesome too, I didn't catch his name :( When I asked for extra salsa on the side, he hooked it up. Good and bad I tried this place yesterday for work lunch and I ordered the Chipotle shrimp , refried beans , rice , Amazing flour tortillas and then they bring out a small of of fideo sopa. everything was so yummy, I have to say i haven't been a mexican restaurant in a while where im so pleased leaving the place. I highly recommend! Now the major bad part of all this, I had about 3 uncooked shrimp. I think i actually ate 2 of them until i realized that texture was off so i took off all the sauce and YUP shrimp was not cooked thoroughly . Now today well since last night I've had food poisoning My stomach is in so much pain.. This is all i had yesterday food wise was lunch at 12 after that couldn't eat anything since. This was my first time going to this restaurant, it was packed when we went but we were happy to find a seat. They had tvs playing sports, music, and SpongeBob. Looking at the menu, there were some hard choices to make. Everything sounded pretty good, but I went with the Mole Verde lunch (chicken in a verde sauce, with rice, beans, pico, salad, house made tortillas, and a soup shown in the pictures) and my grandma had the Tamale Lunch (same thing minus the tortillas and chicken). The service was fast and they made sure to check on us if we needed anything. I was very surprised by the portions. It was A LOT of food. And I savored every bite (I even took the rest home!) The mole verde had something to it that reminded me of something, I couldn't figure out what, but it was good. The soup, I believe, was chicken and pasta, it tasted like it had chicken broth and possibly a little tomato sauce, it was simple but not boring. And can I just say, HOUSE MADE TORTIALLAS!!!?? I love this place so much. Food is pretty well priced and portions are good. The asada tacos are 3.50 per taco but the amount of meat they put definitely makes them worth it. Also they will give you a container with salsa that you can keep with you while eating and add however much salsa you want (which I love because I love a lot of salsa) they also added xtra cilantro and onion just like I asked on my tacos which we always love to see. The service is also great the waiters have never been anything but nice and I've been to this place a lot of times. my first time having el chilango for dinner! i've had their breakfast before (which i love), but had someone never gone there at night before. the food was delicious! the portions for the price weren't bad. it is pretty standard pricing in comparison to other mexican restaurants. the taco were loaded and were so delicious. the meat was super flavorful. the birria tacos were also amazing and the consumè was great! we also got the nachos which had tons of toppings. the salsa is one of my favorite salsas i have had from a restarunt. the staff is also super friendly and they're so quick to refill waters, take orders, bring out food, etc. definitely worth checking out! read more
