5 starts just for having one of my favorite dishes! I was in Portland for work and my friend and I stopped here for dinner. It's a small place with dim lighting and a handful of tables. We were seated quickly and greeted warmly. There is a nice selection of imported drinks and beers if that's your thing. My friend ordered the lamb shawarma and the portion was really good - lots of meat with rice. I went off the a la carte menu and got stuffed cabbage, 2 pieces of falafel, and a meat pie. My food came with a large piece of freshly baked pita. It was piping hot and the perfect implement to eat my dinner. The meat pie was probably my least favorite because I prefer mine with a tahini sauce and the bread was a little soggy. But the flavor was there and great. The falafel was dense and tasty and came with a tahini sauce to dip in. But my favorite was by far the stuffed cabbage or malfoof. Stuffed cabbage is one of my favorite Arabic dishes and I rarely make it because of how much time it takes. I enjoyed every single bite of that cabbage roll and now it's renewed my resolve to make some at home. All in all - nice staff, good food, quaint place. Definitely check it out! read more

We had the most delicious lunch here yesterday. (And since we took half our sandwiches to go, it was a most delicious dinner too.) The sandwiches are available only at lunch. And they come with house made pita bread, humus and a side salad (we upgraded to the tabouli salad.) The sandwiches themselves are in a pita "wrap" and the pita bread itself is light, and delicious. My friend had a chicken sandwich and I had the Lebney sandwich. Both were amazingly tasty. As was everything we had here. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Portland. The restaurant is super cute, and conveniently located right downtown and the service was speedy, attentive and friendly. Super convenient, speedy and delicious! Truly some of the best Syrian/Lebanese food I've ever had. Habibi's the perfect spot to grab a quick lunch that won't make you hit the afternoon slump. I got the mezza meat plate because it gives you a little bit of everything -- trust me you'll want to try it all! The meats (beef and lamb) were savory and tender, the hummus paired perfectly with the main meats, falafel were crispy and not dry, and the tabouli and grape leaves balanced out the whole meal. Everything was so fresh and delicious and the service was excellent. If you're worried about the afternoon slump, get the Lebanese coffee, it'll definitely wake you up. It's served piping hot and has a sweet but strong dark roast flavor. It reminded me of Vietnamese coffee but a little less sweet. Definitely bookmark this for your next lunch in PDX! read more

Popped in for a light dinner. They have an a la carte section of the menu, so I got hummus and bread, and one skewer of kafta with a Diet Coke. The hummus was a large portion and some of the best I've ever had, the bread was thin, hot and perfect, and the Diet Coke was in a glass with free refills. All in all, it was exactly what I was looking for! I'm only in Portland maybe once a year, and this will be a definite stop every time! I've been here scores of times for dinner and the food is always served fresh, hot, and delicious. Tonight we shared a vegetarian mezza platter and a vegetarian kabob. The kabob comes with rice, a salad, two skewers, and this amazing garlic spread. The Mezza platter comes with fresh baked pita bread and lots of yummy vegetarian items. We were looking for a good restaurant for our last dinner in Portland; the reviews for Habibi were excellent so we decided to walk over and try it. We were greeted and seated by Abraham and had a few minutes to look over the menu. We both ordered iced tea, plus my husband had a Pilsner while I had a spicy mango drink. We ordered hummus and pita bread as an appetizer, then decided to share a bowl of spinach lentil soup and a chicken Shawarma plate. The iced tea and hummus with warm, fresh pita bread came out first. The hummus was very delicious, obviously homemade. The bread was warm and soft and a perfect complement to the hummus. Our drinks arrived shortly there after. (They weren't kidding about the spicy mango being spicy!) Then Abraham brought our bowl of spinach lentil soup. It looked a bit like split pea soup, but had spinach and garbanzos and lentils in a wonderful broth. It was so good, especially accompanied by the hummus and pita bread. We ran out of bread and had to order another piece. Lastly, our Shawarma plate came. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and grilled, served atop a bed of seasoned rice with a small side of tahini. It was so very good. We cleaned all the plates and bowls! We also saw a shirt on the wall with the restaurant name on it and decided we needed one because it was so attractive (see picture below). I only wish we had found this place earlier in our visit, so we could've eaten here twice! read more

My friend met the owner in a dog park and so she decided to plan our dinner club at his restaurant, to help support a local restaurant. We are all down for helping local business owners stay afloat so tonight 20 of us came to Habibi tonight to try Syrian food, which most of us have never had. We all love middle eastern food so we knew what to expect (chicken, lamb, hummus, etc) 20 of us came in at once so service was slow, but that was to be expected - although the owner was given notice and made our reservation so he wasn't blind-sided. Drinks were hard to get as well, because there only seemed to be 2 or 3 people working, but the Mistress (whisky, ginger ale, campari & vermouth) was very tasty. And we were understanding because small businesses have had a hard time keeping staff or being able to afford hiring decent workers (in a time of "Bidenomics"). Everyone's food looked really good, but the chicken Shwarma was a little underwhelming. I guess I expected it to be a sandwich with fixings and sides for my meal (small dab of hummus and maybe some salad - like everyone else's meals had) but it was just a bed of jasmine rice and chicken on top (with a table spoon size of tzatziki on the side). I like my food extremely flavorful or spicy so I did need some chili sauce to liven it up. And more tzatziki. If my mouth isn't on fire and my lips aren't swollen, I need Sriacha, wasabi or horseradish to make it that way. The restaurant is cute but the bathrooms need a little help (they aren't dirty but could be compared to a closet with a toilet and sink) All in all, we had a good time & I would recommend it if you like Middle Eastern food. read more

The portion at this place is huge! We definitely over-ordered for 3 people with the Habibi Mezza, Lattakia Mezza, and the Eggplant Specialty... However, the dishes were fantastic! I'm a big fan of their hummus and gigantic pita bread that was soft and warm; it was a lot of fun tearing the bread and dipping it into different condiments. The Habibi Mezza came with a lot of meats: lamb shwarma, chicken shwarma, and kibbeh. The meats were cooked well, perhaps a little charred on the outside. The Lattakia Mezza had a cabbage roll and an ahi tuna skewer. I liked the flavor of the skewer a lot and would get it again on its own. The Eggplant Specialty was something that I've never tried before. It was a tomato stew with chunks of eggplant. The eggplant was super tender and naturally sweet.
