Hello, My name is Kelly. My son has been an addict for several years. We have tried everything. Expensive rehabs. Expensive first class hospitals. Two as a matter of fact. Countless certified doctors. Physiatrists, psychologist and medically prescribed cure all prescription drugs. We have spent thousand and thousands of dollars. We've listened to professionals diagnose our son with, yep the infamous diagnosis of an addict. You guessed it. BIPOLAR...see the difference between these rehabs and Habilitat is. First Habilitat teaches that addiction is a choice. NOT A DISEASE!!!! See all these expensive fancy over paid, don't know diddly rehabs teach that addiction is not the addicts fault. They were born that way. PLEASE!!! This is just another way of teaching our society that they don't have to be responsible for their actions. When did drugs become the disease and not CANCER. Now that's a disease. I watched my mom die from it. What can I say as a mother of an addict??? Hmmmmm!!!!!! Well I wouldn't take parental advice from a person who's never parented. I wouldn't take cooking lessons from someone who can't cook. So to Mr. J D, I say this. What better way to aid in the recovery of an addict if not by someone who has walked in those shoes. Addiction is more than being addicted it learning how to reiterate back into society. Is Habilitat perfect? No, what program is. You know I have to laugh when I tell people my sons in rehab in Hawaii. The first response is, oh must be nice. I think to myself really??? Then I realized (after I say to myself you idiot) how truly blessed I am to have Habilitat in my life. Because of this AMAZING!!!! Place My son is still alive,thriving,educating and living and learning everyday. Yes JD everyday. The funny thing about all this is, those degrees and fancy doctors, you know. The ones you keep referring to couldn't save my son. Do you realize that doctors are trained to, let's say, see a compound fracture,irrigate the wound and put it back together. Whalah it's fixed. With addiction they don't know what to do, besides label it and prescribe more drugs because it's what they do. It's how they were trained. Habilitat is a very structured and accountable rehab. This program is not for everyone, just those who don't wanna die. Habilitat is hard work. When I went to visit my son we had met a very nice young man. He told us before he went to Habilitat he was sitting in jail. Habilitat went in and plucked him out. He told my husband. Man, they should of left me in jail all I did was sleep and eat all day. You see this man has 9 children, by the way his elderly mom was taking care of. Because of Habilitat and their program he is doing amazing and taking care of his responsibilities. If he was still in jail, he would be spending your tax dollars and doing nothing with his life. but, being a lifer. Thanks Habilitat for helping out us tax payers. Wouldn't you agree JD? You know ignorance is bliss. JD I'm not sure if you have any kids or grandkids. But, you never know they might just need Habilitat one day! Boy wouldn't that be the walk of shame. I pray JD that you NEVER EVER have to wonder where your son is. I pray you never have to worry about your baby girl selling herself to get high. I pray that God opens up your heart and humbles you. The tongue is a very powerful thing. I pray God places the words on your tongue to be soft and non judge mental. As a graduate of the Habilitat program in 2007, I proudly deliver my testimony of my experience having been a resident at Habilitat. Habilitat is an inpatient rehabilitation program for those seeking to restore a quality life free from addiction. Habilitat takes a therapeutic approach to accomplish this goal. The "addiction" itself is not the focal point. The program believes that success in ones recovery lies in assisting an individual with internal issues, flaws, ego, personal images and problems that led to the addition. I agree with the adage learned while at Habilitat, "You take away the drugs, you still have a very broken human being." Through tough love, they take away the exterior crutches in life that we've come to depend upon, that made us feel good. Instead, they instill in us a desire to feel good about who we are. They help us to build confidence, self-esteem and learn how to create our own happiness. They teach us to learn how to live life and to have fun without the use of drugs. But most important, they teach us to have self-respect for ourselves and others. Vocational training is also incorporated into the program once you reach the 2nd level. At this stage, they teach exceptional work skills and inspire high work ethic. Habilitat helped me to find confidence and belief in myself and define my goals in life. They taught me to have respect for myself. When I entered the program in 2005 I was a broken young woman, addicted to meth. I graduated two in a half years later in 2007, a whole new person. Not only, did Habilitat save my life, but my parents got their daughter back. They could not be more proud of me for finishing the program. Today, I am a mother of a beautiful daughter. I currently work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a hospital and I am also a 3rd year nursing student, also minoring in psychology at a local University. I have one more year until I complete the Bachelors of Science in nursing program. When I graduate in 2016, I will sit for the NCLEX exam to become a licensed Registered Nurse. My goal is to eventually land in the ICU, taking care of critically ill patients. It has always been my dream to be in the medical field because I love helping people and today I am pursuing my dream because of Habilitat. I am forever grateful for all they have done for my family and myself. I also have many friends who have been through the program and are continuing to lead successful lives. Habilitat is a rehab program that I HIGHLY recommend and from personal experience I am a FIRM believer in what they teach their residents. Jeff Nash is one of my mentors and I am forever grateful for him. He is TOUGH but extremely PASSIONATE about what he does. I've been travelling the world to help people wherever I could. But if there was ONE place I had to choose for its greatness, it would be Habilitat. I went there to help people and it turned out to become a life changing experience for me too. Everywhere, I see people and structures which tend to debilitate people, by over-assisting them, taking away people's responsibility, creating dependency... But in Habilitat, they teach people how to be clean and how to lead a good life. I saw a comment down there from a person who says "Habilitat is using EFT which is not proven". J.D., you must have made a confusion with another rehab center because there is no EFT in Habilitat. Habilitat uses FasterEFT, which has nothing in common. FasterEFT is based on proven facts, and is based on the best research on the brain. If Eric Kandel's Nobel price in 2000 is not a reference, for instance, I can't propose anything better, sorry. Residents receive there what they generally didn't get during their whole life : a secured but strict environment, which helps them realize what is important in life. They are prepared for everyday life. Prepared to work, prepared to say NO, prepared to really learn that each action has a consequence. They are taught respect and brotherhood. What best life skills could be necessary for former drug addicts ? They are prepared to manage their emotional life, which is generally the reason why they fell into drugs. FasterEFT is proposed to the residents on a voluntary basis (no one is compelled to use it), just as they propose to residents fitness sessions, running, etc. And for me, one of the most important element there is the staff. I've been very sad to read J.D.'s comments about Jeff Nash. JD, you don't know Jeff, obviously. Jeff should be dead for so many years. Yet, he went through extremely tough experiences, he survived, and today, he's helping others, and this gives a big weight to what he says, because he went through this. Talking to Jeff is not like talking about colors to a blind person. He went through. Criticism is so easy when you don't do anything yourself for the world... Jeff is really a model in Habilitat, he's a model for me and he's a model for everybody who really knows him. His sharp temper is the result of all his life experience which is no fake. Having talked to 44 residents during private sessions, none of them would agree with you, JD, I promise. So please use your energy to help your neighbor instead of evil speaking about those who do. My name is Larisse Goldstein and I am one of the Faster- EFT practitioner's whose great privilege it has been to volunteer at Habilitat, a unique long term drug and alcohol rehabilitation program where the core belief is congruent with that if Faster-EFT: there are no Broken People, just people doing the best they can with what they know. Habilitat strives to help people change "what they know", their attitudes and behaviour, in order to live happier, healthier, more productive lives. This process does not happen overnight. It takes time (generally around 24 months) to reconstruct an individual's lifestyle and develop practical survival skills. While residents are there, Habilitat provides a safe haven from external pressures and offers its residents a fresh start. The focus is on future life, not the drugs and alcohol. Addiction is considered a choice, not a disease. The program is built on the "Therapeutic Community" model that uses a hierarchical model with treatment stages to reflect increased levels of personal and social responsibility. This approach is considered by experts to be the one of the most effective methods of treatment for substance abuse and chemical addictions. While there, I witnessed dedicated, committed people working hard to turn their lives around and help each other. The work isn't always easy and it isn't always pretty but neither are the habits they are working to change nor the things that drove them to dysfunctional life styles in the first place. My fellow practitioners and I worked hard to help the residents that chose to work with us clear up the attraction to drugs/ alcohol and to resolve and heal the traumas and issues that lead them to their substance abuse in the first place as well as giving them coping skills to help deal with the pressures and stresses of everyday life. Anyone would become a better person by investing two and a half years and gaining what is taught. Habilitat 'builds better people.' In doing so, self-esteem, self-worth, and self-discipline, are emphasized, which in turn, aides residents in negating and eliminating antisocial behaviors. Anyone looking to empower themselves or a loved one and mend a family that has been broken due to substance abuse should turn to Habilitat. The lessons in family values, giving to others, and being the best person that you can be will improve anyone's life by an unquantifiable amount. Habilitat has long been recognized as one of the nation's foremost residential substance-abuse treatment programs. The structure is a Therapeutic Community (which is considered by experts to be one of the most effective methods of treatment for substance abuse and chemical addictions), emphasizing behavioral modification, and making right choices. I can't disagree more with the previous negative post. First, let me say, I am not a graduate of Habilitat. Nor am I friends with Jeff. However, I did go there for a couple months and eventually left. Not because of the program!! It was a well structured and respectable one. But I personally couldn't handle being away from my children for the extended period of time. When I left I went to another program and graduated it. But I wouldn't have made it the last 8 years had I not applied what I did learn while at Habilitat. My brief time there instilled in me great values, morals, respect and integrity. Jeff was an awesome mentor, they all did their part. They are not there to be our friend. But to teach us and help understand that there was another way and living life on its terms was achievable. Yeah, Games were rough. Words were harsh. But reality of our addiction surpassed all that 10 fold. It takes a certain kinda strength and determination to work and live that program!! I am PROUD TO SAY, I HAVE MANY FRIENDS...who went thru it and have remained sober and are now respectable contributing citizens of our community!! Today, they are educated and working in places they never dreamed possible. But through the Habilitat program and it's connection to its graduates after they grad, they are living life on its terms and doing so happily and SOBER!! To each his own. Not every program works for everyone. No two humans are the same. Nobody is perfect. But I believe whole heartedly in this program and recommend it to any individual who has a drug problem and wants to change their life!!! God bless and best wishes. JD your a Joke straight up... to come to a public forum and put down a organization like Habilitat and the current director is not right. I take it as offensive how you put down such a great place that does work. Im a graduate from Habilltat 4-23-86. Since graduating I have been able to control my life with the tools habilitat has given me. I have been able to get a BS in Electrical Engineering. I also have been able to achieve my CNE certification Certified Network Engineer and nearly 11 other certs to go with that. with out Habilitat I would more than likely be dead or in jail. How Habilitat gave me the confidence to succeed and the ability to stay away from the drugs I once did. It makes me mad J.D. that you think your better because there are no doctors here no psychologist needed. Yes the place is ran by X Drug Addicts people that have gone through the various levels of the program for a certain amount of time which is different for everyone that goes through the program. I was in it for 28 months. I had a drug problem for 10 years which I needed to be shown how to be rebuilt which no doctor could do for me only a person that has gone through what I have gone through. I would like to talk about Habilitat. I am Linda's husband. I'd like to discuss this from a families point of view, both as an observer into my wife's, professional integrity and also as a Brother- in -law and Uncle of recovering addicts. There are few facilities in main land, U. S. that work as hard as Habilitat does to create the long term environment for a successful recovery. The patience and drive of Habilitat exceeds multiple facilities I looked into for my relatives. Most just want to push you in and out or take your money. My Brother- in -Law, died sober a few years back. He was a caring, good man. He had been in and out of treatment multiple times. He DID NOT make it to Habilitat. I'm talking about this because if he HAD, when he should of, he'd be alive today! What Habilitat does is, it puts restrictions on living while there, which my wife says is the structure one needs to maintain/ learning/ staying sober. I don't claim I know much about drinking and drugging. What I do know as a family member is you worry about your family and the effects of the person you love, that's out of control. My niece, I no longer worry about, because since she's graduated from the program, she's developed skills she needs to STAY AND LIVE SOBER. Today, I have another family member at Habilitat. I , like Habilitat, expect continued change! Before I met my wife, I never realized an ADDICT could change. She has devoted her life, working with addicts and alcoholics. I had the privilege to visit Habilitat a couple years ago as a FasterEFT Practitioner spending nearly a week there at the facility and got to meet the Director Jeff Nash and all the other employees and members of the greater Habilitat family. And when I say family this is not some misplaced word. When you are at Habilitat, on the grounds of the property, you feel protected by a Family. During my visit, I got to participate in a number of the activities at Habilitat and got to hear Jeff Nash speak many times in front of the family. I was so very impressed with how strong yet at the same time compassionate Jeff's presence was as he spoke, coached and directed the community. It is really inspirational to see someone who has transformed their life completely then decide to give back his new lease on life to that next person/persons who are in need of that same new lease. The grounds and facilities were very clean and well kept. It was an experience I will never forget. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Habilitat. I hope our paths cross again someday soon. I had the privilege of volunteering In Habilitat as a faster EFT practitioner last summer. I had come with mixed feelings about where I was going to. After experiencing Habilitat for 2 weeks I was sold. Habitat takes drug addicts, and turns them into good law abiding citizens who have a chance at living a fulfilling , productive life instead of rotting in jailor or worse.. They do it with love and through a belief in the goodness of every person on earth. The high success rate of changing former addicts into productive, happy loving people is proof of the importance of the work that they are doing, They teach the former addicts skills both physical and emotional, to get them out of their former lives and into new happy productive lives. They are saving and transforming many lives and in return these people contribute back to society and help others get on back on their feet as well. The residents in Habilitat are taught things which I felt I and many people in the world at large could benefit from learning as well, such as manners, respect for others, compassion for each other, and most of all accountability. Those people who finish Habilitat successfully, act as examples for people on the outside world. And the family atmosphere that they create among all the residents no matter what their background or where they come from is a model that we can all learn and benefit from. i love Habilitat!! ive been there as a visitor a few times and had the honor of seeing a part of how the program works. ive met the residents and staff and love them all. been reading some of the comments posted and I must say that to me "success" should not be measured on the number of residents staying sober but more on how the ones that stay sober are living their lives. are they serving a purpose, inspiring others battling the same kind of problems, have they found their purpose and even deeper, their WHY? from who ive met, I see that they teach the values to achieve this. If a resident fails, its not the program. its the person. as "addicts" it does not matter how great or not the program is. if the person isn't ready, the program, any program, will not work. Habilitat is self reliant, many programs are offered within their program to serve the community and serve they do. if you're wondering who am I, I was also a addict. a meth addict of 10 years. I loved it for 6 months. it took me 9 and a half years to quit. had my father as a teacher, police officer, u name it, he was everything in one. as good as he was with all his experience, it still didn't matter because it wasn't my time. he planted the important seeds that were needed and today I am more than I ever imagined I would be. I am a proud graduate of the Habilitat program. And yes, it's one if the toughest programs you'll find! This is mainly because they teach you to accept responsibility for your actions and poor choices and teach you to be a productive member of society. They accept no excuses! Which is why many will choose to leave, amongst other reasons. But if a person chooses to stay and embraces all the lessons you'll learn about yourself, you'll come out stronger and better than before! Everything in life is a choice. I know many residents who left the program prematurely but carried the lessons they learned while at the program and are still doing well! In my experience, those who have anything negative to say about the program and staff haven't really "grown up", so to speak, and are just plain resentful because they couldn't get things their way. They, or someone they know, either went through the program and didn't make it, either by choice or probably got let go, because they just couldn't find it in themselves to follow the rules (which are so fricken simple) and learn from their poor behavior. This program doesn't just address an addiction, it addresses unacceptable behaviors in order to help us excel in life. I can say that I'm a more resilient, responsible and carefree individual because of what I learned at the program and from my INCREDIBLE mentors there!!! read more

I'm a FasterEFT practitioner from Australia & I've had the privilege of being invited to Habilitat to work with the residents on their substance abuse issues. I find the facility to be very professionally run they treat the residents as family all working together to support each other to be responsible and accountable members of the family. Habilitat holds the belief that the residents don't have an illness they have used the drugs & alcohol as coping behaviour & as it's a behaviour it can be changed. Habilitat is an holistic program that teaches the residents how to take care of themselves, develop emotional resilience & intelligence. Residents have the opportunity to complete their high school diploma, to learn work skills so that when they graduate they can return to the community as worthwhile responsible adults. Habilitat is the most successful rehabilitation program in the USA tracking their residents for 5 years after graduation with over a 60% success rate of graduates not re-using. Another amazing thing is Habilitat is totally aelf-funding. I wish we had facilities like Habilitat in Australia. They are a true therapeutic community. I am a product of habilitats teaching methods and rehabilitation center, I can say that hands down there program was extremely difficult and by far the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I can be honest with you And tell you there programs values are grow the f**** up And basically they teach you how to be a respectful and productive member of society through reshaping your value system and using towards motivation. They teach what its like to hold a real job through there practical vacational training i worked in the kitchen when i was there and today im a chef with a catering buisness on the side.Tapping that's an option that you can do if you feel like its an avenue you'd be able to learn from if you do proper research n.l.p. aka neuro linguistic programming is a highly skilled and successful treatment model. I was a homeless drug addict with a lengthy criminal record today I am a chef at the hotel, a full time father of two have my own house a beautiful fiance and a clean date with no new charges since 2008 I'd say what I learned there got me where I am today always remember where you came from, remain humble and be honest. And by the way through tracking residents over a ten year period you are able to come up with a number of successful graduates who chose not go back to relapse and recidivism. J.D. Bro...you sound like a very bitter and lonely guy. I noticed that you utilize your Yelp account to post negative remarks 70% of your usage. I am a 59 year old "graduate" of Habilitat...entered the program back in the early 70's....I also worked there for 12 years helping the program grow and help hundreds of local kids from Hawaii climb out of the grips of their addictions. How dare you post derogatory comments on a Hawaii institution that you know nothing about. You're actual grip lies with an individual that works at Habilitat....yet you attempt to address the clinical aspects of a program you know nothing about. All the support comments you see here are from grateful people, like me, who made life changing decisions while at Habilitat that many of us credit for saving our lives. So you can see that we don't take kindly to knuckleheads denigrating a program we respect to this day! Habilitat has a longstanding positive reputation within the Oahu community. This program has done more to change and better the lives of the people who enter into the program and not only that they give back to the community. Habilitat is unlike any other program and teaches its residents to be hardworking, respectable, productive members of society. Contrary to what the other negative reviews have said Habilitat has one of the highest success rates in the nation, if not the whole country, and perhaps the world. I am very satisfied with the results i have seen personally and watched with other people that have participated in the program. Habilitat motivates the unmotivated, teaches the unteachable, and takes in those who had no other program to go. Unlike other programs they do not drain your medical insurance or throw you out if you cannot pay. They take you in, welcome you into their Ohana, and teach you how to live your life the right way. Habilitat is truly a program that cares about others. I say this because I am a proud graduate that would not be where I am today had I not gone to Habilitat. After spending 10 years in prison and picking up new charges now with 105 years hanging over my head I needed to do something that would better my life. I've been through many programs here on the Islands, but none of them got my attention like Habilitat. Habilitat made me realize that I needed to change my thoughts before anything else would change. Habilitat also taught me to be Respectful, Honest and Independent. Habilitat has taught me how to be a man. Because of Habilitat I've been clean now for almost 4 years now with no desire to drink or use drugs. Because of Habilitat I have in my life my Ohana and I am a proud Father who provides for his Ohana. Today I am a contributor to our society. I recommend Habilitat to any one who really wants to change the way they are living and are willing to do what ever it takes to change. Only those who have been down the road of destruction or affected by it through a loved one will be astonishingly amazed by the successful methods Habilitat uses... I myself went into Habilitat in 2005 and graduated in 2007 before going to Habilitat I had no sense of direction in life and my priorities were completely upside down and I grew to be okay with that because I knew no other way... My brain needed some washing cause It was clouded... Habilitat has shown me a new direction in life, helped me to get my priorities straight and never settle for less... I regained my parental rights to my 2 beautiful daughters and hold 2 full time management positions life has its ups and downs but today I know how to go through it and come out ahead J.D. - Jeff and Danny does a lot and I must say they do it well... I'm not here to defend anyone but your opinion sounds a bit personal. Habilitat is a life changing experience! Some make it and unfortunately some don't! Those who don't make it unfortunately generate more "bad press" than those that do. Those that do make it are all around you and are busy doing great things, making up for time lost and leaving that life style behind. Successful graduates of Habilitat can be found all over the world. They could be your neighbor, best friend, cashier at Starbucks, School Teacher, Real Estate Agent/Broker, Restaurant Manager, Salon Shop Owner, Car Sales Manager, Small Business Owner, Actor, Musician, Program Manager, Case Worker, Politician, Stock Broker, Insurance Agent and on and on and on. I think I made my point! There are no scientific psychobabble stats available because quite honestly, the graduates are busy blazing new trails and the scientists couldn't keep up. God put eyes in the front of our head to look at what's in front of us not in the back to focus on what's behind us! Habilitat is a place of change and has changed so many lives.
