Had terrible service today at 2:30pm. Three employees "working", one at the window, counter and the cook. The cook did all the work. The other two talked to each other over their headsets the whole time I was there. Even when my order was ready, it set there waiting to be put in a bag for takeout. It's pretty good. My German friend liked the single charburger more than the In-N-Out cheeseburger, which I'd have to agree with. The meat tastes a bit better at The Habit. I really like their range of selections on the menu, as well as the fact that they offer two lemonades and two teas in addition to their soda fountain. The condiment selection is also pretty freakin thorough. The manager here was a nice guy who chatted with us a bit and gave some advice on meal choices. The Santa Barbara char I ordered was pretty heavy and huge. I was slightly turned off by the buttery sourdough bread--it just made the thing feel a little greasier than necessary. It was really filling, I almost felt sick after putting the whole thing down (which I probably shouldn't have done). All-in-all, this "The Habit" location is pretty good. Unfortunately they lost my respect after we had just placed our order and had to leave unexpectedly due to an emergency. I told the clerk and she was extremely rude and laughing saying we couldn't give a refund because we ordered on the machine. Seriously? We left and handled our business. Afterwards I called and spoke to the same staff person. She was rude and said we could eat the food but it's been sitting out so it's cold now. I asked why they couldn't remake the order? She said yea I guess. Just terrible customer service. It's not like we wanted to leave. We understand how difficult it is. But we told her before they even made the food that we needed to cancel it. Terrible experience with a ready order and poor service I placed an order ahead of time and got a notification that it was ready for pickup at 8:41 PM. I arrived shortly after and tried to go inside to get it, but the doors were locked even though it wasn't past closing time. I waited at the door until an employee finally came over, but instead of handing me the order that was already ready, he told me to go through the drive-thru. So I had to go back to my car, wait in line again, and didn't get my food until 9:01 PM a full 20 minutes after it was marked ready. Besides the inconvenience, this is a food safety concern. If hot food sits out that long without proper handling, it can be unsafe. I was really disappointed with how this was handled. No apology, no urgency, and no care for the customer experience. I have eaten at the Habit all over California and by far this has been the most disappointing experience yet. On walking, in the restaurant was poorly lit and dark. The counter person was too busy on their phone, not the restaurant's, to come over and promptly take our order. When the food finally came out it was poorly prepared, the lettuce in one of their signature salads was half rotten and slimy, several of the other ingredients appeared to be just thrown in without cutting. The staff/management at this location clearly do not care about the reputation for quality the Habit has established. Avoid this location! read more

I decided to use the drive through because I needed to get back for an appointment and was impressed with the menu selections displayed on the signage. I chose the Santa Barbara burger, sweet potato fries and Hibiscus lemonade drink. Then I waited, put in my order and waited again. There were only two cars in front of me. Visited this location today after a Costco mission with my mom. Service was kind of laughable. The young man at the front was rather unfriendly, but it doesn't really matter. There wasn't too much interaction. Ordered a CHARburger meal with cheese for my mom and I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich with the tempura green beans. I had my mom taste the chicken as soon as she tasted at her face looked puzzled in her nose, turned up And she said it definitely taste weird and then once she tried it with the coleslaw that came on it. There was nobody in the drive through so that's what we opted for. Perfectly normal experience there, order was taken no problemo. They have burgers, chicken sandwiches, and at least one veggie option too. I did the grilled chicken sandwich, a bit on the dry side but tasted good - had some nice char flavor to it. Was kind of taken aback to see it was almost 1K calories, but we are in America so what can ya do. Burger felt a bit on the small side for the price, nothing to write home about. Every time I have ordered one of the new salads it has been missing ingredients. The most frustrating by far is the new SB Cobb salad. In over a dozen times I have only gotten a hard boiled egg twice. Fri, Sat, Sun, Wed, Fri again NO EGGS! You might as well take the salad off the menu. Of course same price with or without the egg. But let's charge for that extra ranch! Oh and then there was the $2 tip added without my consent by Lily! So I don't usually do very many reviews for fast food chain restaurants but when there is such a great chasm between locations I need to voice my opinions. The Seaside location is clean, the service is polite, the food is prepared with a sense of urgency and that makes for a better meal. The Ceres location near Modesto is as good. The Salinas location is the opposite on all points. Why is that? It's management. Weak managers equals weak employees. The work pool in Salinas is shallow and it shows. Man, I'm addicted to Sand City's Habit Burger Grill. My little boy and I go there way too much! I'm not sure how that happened since The Habit that was right by my Arizona house wasn't very good. We may have never tried this Habit location if they hadn't hosted a school fundraiser a few years ago. In AZ, we never went to the Habit and it was within walking distance. Anyway... this Seaside/Sand City/Monterey location is just much better. lol Try the burgers, onion rings, fries, fried chicken sandwich, sweet potato fries, tempura green beans, and all their drinks. Nom nom. And yeah, and my son would be sad if I didn't mention they give the candy burger gummy with his kid's meal. lol So, all that said, I'd also like to give a shoutout to the staff at the Seaside location. What's nice about Habit burger is that they offer fish burgers as well as regular hamburgers. I opted for the fish, along with some crispy green beans. The fish was cooked just perfectly, and had a nice chili type sauce on it. I have had the green beans twice, and I really prefer the spicy ones, although I didn't see that as an option at the last Habit Burger I visited. I tried to do the customer survey but it seems someone deleted my order so I could not leave a survey? I'll leave my thoughts here where it's public I guess. I ordered a chicken Caesar which is a pretty safe choice but it not good as it was mostly dressing. Way too much dressing for me to enjoy. I returned and asked nicely for it to be remade and I apologized for returning but the manager looked at me like I was crazy. Finally she put in a new order and then asked me if I ordered drive through, which I did, and she then told me that I ordered the salad with extra dressing (I did not) and that's why it was like that. Finally she got me the new one without an apology but the problem got fixed which is the reason for 3 stars. I have worked at casual dining and some of the nicest resorts, if a customer sends the food back there is no need to prove them wrong. 4/2/23 I believe this is either the 2nd worst or THE worst Habit I've ever been to. No, the place is pretty nice and clean, so it's not that... Basically, I was served 2 thin hockey pucks between bread. You couldn't make beef any drier than what was in my sandwich. Habit is usually great mostly because of how well their beef is cooked, but it was sooooo bad here I actually threw away a little less than half of my burger. Seriously. Just couldn't eat more of it since it was so disgusting. To fill up a bit, I did steal some of my 3yr old's grilled cheese which was actually pretty good--buttery toasted bread and ooey gooey cheese and all. My orders of standard potato fries and sweet potato fries were both barely fried--a bit soggy despite being fresh. So, grilled cheese was good, but burgers were inedible and fries sucked. The Habit Sand City is pretty good, but I've found that all the different locations are all consistently very good. I usually eat at the Sunnyvale Habit. Besides In and Out, these are the only burgers I eat. $5.59 for a cheeseburger and $3.09 for fries. Ate here on Nov 10, 2021 after having a terrible dining experience at Five Guys in the same shopping mall. Four stars. I can't say I've ever been to a 5 star burger place. read more

I had a chance to eat lunch out one day while at work. I chose The Habit for location and the fried green beans. I was not disappointed. As far as burgers go, this one is pretty good. My favorite is still In'N Out, but this spot is closer, so ... here I was. The drive through was very fast! The menu was easy to choose from. I decided on a classic single cheese burger combo with the tempura green beans. My food was hot when I got back to work and my burger craving was satisfied. The burger was cooked well, but I still think the bun here is too bready. This is me being picky. The tempura green beans are my favorite. Which of course I ate with ranch dressing!
