Awe MAN!!! I forgot to write my review for Keoki's!!! We stopped at this spot for some Broke Da Mouth Grinds before heading home from our little getaway stay in Monterey. I found this spot looking in Yelps ya? I had the keiki loco moco and the kid regular loco moco and my wife just wanted a spam musubi. Everything was perfect! The burger for the locos were excellent and the gravy.....I coulda asked for a cup of gravy just to drink on the road! I asked if they can cook my burger plain no salt or pepper for our pup but their burgers are already seasoned so the gal (sorry! I forgot her name) made a special plate lunch for her with slices of beef with mixed veggies for her. She devoured it and probably coulda ate three more portions but we had a 3 hour drive home back to Sac and didn't want to make any extra stops so she had to suffer. The family ordered 2 mix plates with 3 items (chicken katsu, chicken wings, roast pork-which is only available on Mondays, and the second one with Kalua pork, roast pork, and chicken wings), a bento box with teriyaki beef and Kalua pork, a mini loco moco, kalbi fries, and a spam musubi. I tried most of the food and I had some mixed feelings: the katsu could not stand alone and needed the sauce, the Mac salad was lacking in flavor--maybe a tad too much on the sweet side. The loco moco was also a bit bland for me. The roasted pork was tender and tasty. My daughter liked the spicy kalbi fries-and my son loved the beef. Quick lunch on the way back from Monterey. Menu is full of classic Hawaiian bbq items. Limited seating inside but some tables outside. Ordered the spam musubi, chicken katsu and a combo of teriyaki chicken with wings. Spam musubis were thick and seasoned well. When normally ordering Hawaiian BBQ, it normally takes 10-15 minutes to get your food. I don't know if it was because it was dinner time, but took us 50 minutes to get our food. I started getting worried faster a saw others get food who ordered after us. By the time we got our food, we noticed the chicken katsu was over cooked and really dry. I worked at a recent Celebration of Life for an HI-Japanese Loved One. You'll pay for your meal, and pick out any beverages and/or desserts from the cold cases near the register. Depending on how many people ordered before you, sit back and wait 20-30min for your meal to be prepared. Gotta say though, WORTH the wait! I ordered the Loco Moco and it was SUPERB! Picked up lunch from here. Chicken Katsu and Bento (Katsu & Hamburger Steak). The Chicken Katsu was very hard and overly dark brown. Sadly, my Katsu were refried. (Katsu should have a nice golden brown color and juicy). Hamburger Steak smelled off, like a spoiled taste once I bit into it. I wasn't expecting this...I'm so disappointed. I did enjoy the rice, it was perfectly cooked. The Mac Salad isn't your normal Hawaiian Mac Salad but more of an updated American Mac Salad, with sweet notes in it. This is our go to spot when we can get there when they're open (closed weekends). We love Hawaiian food and this is in our top 3 of all places (from CA to HI). Service is always friendly - you might have to wait a bit for your food if there are other customers ahead of you, but it is well worth the wait! The chicken wings are the best! We also always get spam musubi. You can order your rice plain, or seasoned with furikake. Our usuals: loco loco, kalua pork, chicken katsu...except for most of the breakfast items, we've tried almost everything and nothing disappoints! Perfectly crispy, juicy and absolutely delicious. It's like a flavor bomb in your mouth. Slightly sweet and salty, perfectly seasoned. My dad took one bite and immediately said it was best he's ever had and he's extremely hard to please nowadays on chemo. So that tells you something. Too bad we ordered it when they were closing otherwise would have ordered another order of just wings. The kalua pork was just alright and simple. Least favorite was the hamburger, as there were grisly pieces that were a bit hard to digest and flavor was just ok. But I may not be the best gauge on this dish since I typically don't care for loco moco even in Hawaii. Also seemed a bit over cooked in my opinion. It was our first time at Keokis it was amazing! We got an order to go, and we loved their macaroni salad and the meats were all so well seasoned and grilled! This was our first stop for our stay in Monterey. They are only open Monday to Friday, and I was afraid it was going to be crazy busy. Rocko was super nice and patient with me. They have a lot of items that aren't listed on the website, so it took me a few minutes. I also wanted to order everything but had to place myself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside the place is really small. Only a handful of tables[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. People were literally placing take-out orders and waiting for them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Looking at various decor around definitely keeps you occupied for a few minutes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a lot of items for sale aside from food. They have stickers, lihing candy, statues, coconut head for your car, and so much more. Did you know this place has been around since 2012? Orders took a little long. Rocko quoted 20 minutes, but realistically, everyone waited at least 35 to 40 minutes. As impatient as people were, Rocko had a positive attitude. He told me some tips and tricks with the food. Musubi should be eaten right away. It is best to eat within the first 15 minutes. These are a few of the items we tried: 1. Loco moco - I loved the crunch of the meat. The gravy and over medium egg was delicious. Rice was perfectly cooked. I think the Loco moco went perfectly well with the potato salad 2. Potato salad - perfect amount of tart 3. Macaroni salad - First bite tasted sweet. After a while, it grows on you. My husband liked it but I prefer potato salad. 4. Teri beef musubi - This has a lot of rice. Not a lot of meat, and it looks like they didn't put teri sauce. It would have tasted better if there was more meat. The Rice to meat ratio was off. 5. Kalua pork musubi- This was well seasoned and flavorful. 6. Macadamia cream pie - Delicious, pie was creamy with crunchy macadamias. Surprisingly, this was my favorite out of the two. 7. Rocky road cream pie - Smooth and not too sweet. I can't wait to come back soon. My recommendation is probably to order over the phone so you don't have to wait so long. read more

This was a great place for lunch! Service was amazing and friendly. We came around 2pm and were helped right away! The menu is easy to understand plus had great photos/plates to show the sizes. I ordered a bento for myself with katsu, and shredded pork (forgot the name), with rice and macaroni salad. My partner got a katsu plate with similar sides. Additionally I got masubi! He got the terriyaki beef and terriyaki chicken. We both ordered a seasoned rice spam musubi. First off we were there for 55 minutes before we got our food. 55 minutes! Everyone on the staff was nice but come on. Now for the food. The spam musubi is massive and the seasoned rice was very good. Just be prepared it's a ton of rice, which I didn't mind but some may! The terriyaki chicken was a solid 8/10 for me. The katsu chicken was very dark almost like it had been refried. The kalua pork was nice and Smokey tasting. My issue came with the Mac salad. The Mac salad had almost no flavor and was extremely watery. I could pour the liquid out of my plate it was so watery. I hate leaving a bad review for a local spot but please just know, if you're going to order please do so ahead of time or be prepared to wait. read more
