    Delicious clam chowder!

Was looking for an easy lunch after a busy morning. Found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. The food was excellent! Tasty sandwiches and yummy creamy clam chowder! They have outdoor seating which looks over a beautiful view! PS: The bread is amazing!!

We stumbled upon Piccolo while down by the water and were so glad we did. We originally stopped in just for coffee, but it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I had a latte and Ray ordered a white chocolate mocha--both were excellent. You could immediately tell there was real intention and care put into their coffee service. We also grabbed some biscotti, which were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was relaxed and authentic, and everyone there was friendly and welcoming. Although it was too early for us to eat, their Italian menu looked fantastic and very authentic--definitely a place we want to come back to for a full meal. Raul took great care of us and was incredibly sweet. We also enjoyed sitting by the water and chatting with the harbor master, which made the stop even more memorable. Piccolo is definitely off the beaten path, tucked down near the harbor, and that's part of what makes it special. A great stop, great coffee, and wonderful people. Shout-out to Raul--we'll be back.

Caprese Salad. Pretty solid and simple.

We were just walking by and saw this little place and decided to give it a shot for a little snack. Very simple and coastal theme with some local art for sale on the walls. It was nice and quiet but a little on the warm and stuffy side for such a pleasant day. The staff was nice and helpful and made us some recommendations. We were a little disappointed for having such an impressive and authentic menu the only tea they had was Lipton but it is what it is. We got our food and sat on the patio, which is open and is pleasant enough. It could use some shade, and the seating is behind the breakwater so not breathtaking views but we had a nice lunch there! The food was simple and solid but nothing earthshaking. The Caprese was about as good as a Caprese could be, the sandwich had EXCELLENT bread but the filling with the ribs and pecorino was a bit of a miss. Not sure how I'd make it better, I think it lies in the sauce itself. Either way. Not bad! The side salad was typical Italian side salad, meaning basically carrots, lettuce, pickled onions, and blue cheese, no dressing or oil to speak of. Would be nice to get a little oil or something. Either way we would definitely come back, check it out if you're in the area! Or on a walk.

My whole body was buzzing after eating the burrata panini. I cant wait to go back again. The salad that accompanies the Panini is just refreshing and a perfect addition. The staff is so pleasant and welcoming.

Came with a friend for lunch this afternoon! I would like to submit that this was probably the most perfect sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. I ordered the roast beef Panini with no sun-dried tomatoes and no onions. It comes with chopped giardinera (the Italian pickled vegetables) which makes a stunning addition to this delicious thinly sliced rare roast beef and arugula. It's served on a very very crispy. Panini roll with cheese. Just absolutely the perfect bite! I could only eat half and I am just now eating the other half for dinner and enjoying it just as much! It comes with the side salad, which is equally delicious, dressed with "continental" a very tasty and light Italian dressing with bits of blue cheese. It's light and contains pickled red onions and pickled carrots as well just delicious. This is a side salad. You will want to eat all of. This is probably the best place to eat lunch in the area and sitting outside looking at the boats, and the birds is a very pleasant experience.

Special salad: crunchy arugula with crazy cheese stuffed date wrapped in bacon. Chef "whipped it together this morning". AMAZING

They have their own parking spots! Order at the counter. The chef came out both times we visited and told us the specials, and pointed to the pot of sauce stewing all day in the open kitchen. A lot of love and care goes into the food. We ordered all the specials. Baked ziti with special sauce. The owner explained and called out, "Hey Giuseppe, do we have any sauce left?" Crazy personal service. So good. Also got special salad, with dates stuffed with ricotta and wrapped with bacon. I asked the server how it was prepared, and he didn't know cause chef just threw it together that morning! Wow, like we were house guests... Dessert, same thing. Tiramisu, but they had to check if they had enough. No problem they'll make one and chill it. Should be cold enough by the time we eat our entrees. Highly recommend this place for a personable experience. They'll talk to you, and make sure everything is good,

My son and I are here at Piccolo this afternoon, on this wet and rainy day. We had the panini sandwiches - him, the Cuban, and me, the Vegetariano. Both were hot and toasty, with the perfect amount of crunch and the perfect amount of filling. The side salads, with dark greens, pickled onion, and blue cheese crumbles, with a vinaigrette provided just the right amount of acidity to complete the meal. My son had a Semifreddo Al Limone for dessert, which he described as similar to a custard. See photo. Piccolo does not disappoint! You will be glad you made your way down to the Coast Guard Pier. Parking is a breeze with ParkMobile (app download is quick and easy).

    Mauricio, the owner and me.

Mauricio is the owner of Piccolo (downstairs) and Osteria al Mare (upstairs). As Piccolo is new and Mauricio is focusing on this new business and I'm on a budget, I went to Piccolo for the first time. Started with the meatballs. I found the meatballs tender and on flavor more subtle than I wanted. The bread crispness on the outside and softness on the inside reminded me of Parisian bread. Delish. I love garlic. The more the merrier. The garlic was too light for me. However, most people would love it. Caesar salad was the best on the peninsula. What made it unique was the pickled onions. Dessert was a pistachio, ladyfinger, lemon curd and ice cream delight. Omg, this could be one of my dessert destinations! Buena Sera!

Piccolo has the magical trifecta of good food, good service, and good ambiance. You can't beat munching on pizza or paninis overlooking the water with sea lions barking in the distance. It's a little slice of charm and comfort. And don't sleep on the soup, you'll need two bowls of it!

Super friendly service and a great little spot. You can sit outside by the water or inside. I got a vegetarians sandwich to go. The bread was perfect! It was soft and fresh and fluffy. All the flavors for the sandwich were great. The eggplant was seasoned well and I loved that it had artichoke. I just wish it had more veggies inside and as always, more cheese.

Was in the area and stopped in to check out Piccolo. Too late for lunch and too early for dinner so we ordered coffees and biscotti. Lovely venue overlooking the harbor. Ryan was particularly helpful telling us about the area and the Pacific Grove Farmers Market open on Mondays. Good information for future visits. Next time we will visit at lunch time. The menu looks wonderful.

I guess it's no secret anyway, best brunch i've had in years…read more The metropolitan bay area is known for the world-class food and renowned cuisines, but we have so much to learn from a quaint and unassuming cafe in a small coastal town. Situated on a cute corner away from the madness of the wharf, we found plenty of parking right outside, got seated immediately, and got a great corner booth between the window and the fireplace. Ambiance: The decor was homely but stately. It was certainly busy but the workers were on it with the bevs and ordering. It was quietly bustling but the dining experience was anything but. It felt like I was having Christmas morning at my really rich but super down-to-earth aunt's lake house who is married to the senator of vermont and im in the running as her favorite niece. (im just talking out of my butt here. i have no clue what that feeling's like but i THINK this is close) Ordered: - Crabcake benedict to share: BEST. BENEDICT. Lots of variations here. Croissant, crabcake, poached egg, hollandaise, added avocados, comes with potatoes on the side. The croissant was a welcomed substitute, crabcakes light, hollandaise warm and classic. The crossaint was still warm and flakey, didnt get soggy by the sauces. the crabcake fresh, light, and unbattered. the potatoes were sweet, al-dente, and seasoned to perfection. No notes! - Crabcake to share: just extra crabcakes here but it also comes with a beautiful salad that was thoughtfully complimentary. Crisp and young greens topped with feta, caramelized onions, and dressed with a light vinaigrette that wasn't tart. The salad really changed what i thought a side salad can be. yom. - Fresh squeezed orange juice: Not too sweet, not a tinge of sour, flavorful, light but not watery, not pulpy, and a generous portion. Definitely made my morning. - Cappuccino: Very full-bodied, foamy, not too sweet. Though I personally would perfer a touch more sweetness but a very personal preference and would like simple syrup to adjust. Perfect for my partner who ordered it and is watching his glucose level. Compared to the Bay Area's over-the-top fusion brunches and long waitlists of bottomless lychee mimosas, the Red House Cafe's attention to detail and commitment to quality was really grounding. I will definitely be adding this hot spot to my itinerary anytime i'm driving past the coast.

This is a cozy restaurant with a small indoor sitting room and seating outside in a covered porch area. We sat outside and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our waitress was wonderful and she had a big beautiful smile C-: I ordered a cheeseburger "med rare" with cheddar cheese and it came with fries. The burger came nicely cooked at med rare and was actually pretty good except some of the bites I took had a heavy handed wasabi flavor. "Wasn't liking that at all" overall 2 stars for taste. Wifey ordered a portobello mushroom sandwich and a double shot of espresso coffee. Both the coffee and portobello mushroom sandwich or excellent "5 stars" overall I might come back for the portobello mushroom sandwich for lunch, but definitely not to Berger. I also would like to try the breakfast.

Parking is sparse in front of the restaurant but paid parking is nearby. We entered and wow, the place was busy. Not overwhelming but lots of people in the indoor dining area enjoying their food. The menu is overheard and we decided what we wanted and ordered. The employees were kind and helpful, we probably were the only people that didn't speak Spanish well in the restaurant but that wasn't an issue, SCW got the number 2 combo, I got the mole. Also ordered an appetizer. Seated and waited about 10 minutes and our order came out. Everything was freaking amazing. Such great flavors and so fresh. Even SCW who doesn't necessarily gravitate towards Mexican food made nom nom nom sounds the whole time. The mole was incredible, the best I've ever had. The whole time we were here it was an endless stream of customers, even late lunch hour. SCW was impressed by the contrast stream of people coming in. We even walked around the wharf nearby for a while and drove past again and it was still packed with people. Do yourself a favor and visit El Cantato. I know I will.

It took our party (8 people) a while to decide as we were spoiled with choices. But we had time as it was pretty busy for a Friday around 1. I ended up getting the carne asada nachos and the aqua Fresca that they had that day (mango and watermelon I think). Both were absolutely spectacular. The picture included might not show the best scale but I had 2 others helping me to eat this plate and otherwise I would not have been able to finish it (even as a larger man). The crunchy jalapeños with the chips, beans and guacamole were the perfect balance. As a meat eater, the texture of the faux meat was a touch odd, but the flavor more than made up for it. The staff was helpful and attentive even as they were balancing supporting customers, answer phone orders, and taking regular orders. My wife and will definitely be stopping by here more often!!
