A very impressive teriyaki grilled chicken sandwich in this spot. They showcased it on the menu and that swayed me to go healthier and stay away from a burger. The sandwich was on a fresh ciabatta bread and the grilled chicken was just out of this world- very succulent, juices dripping, the flavor outstanding. It was super hot, right off the grill. The caramelised onions along with light teriyaki sauce, some lettuce and tomatoes, complemented the protein nicely. All ingredients worked together perfectly, without overpowering the main attraction- the delicious chicken itself of course. This sandwich definitely exceeded my expectations. Not a good start when you have to bus your own table and clean it. Plus screaming kids running around the tight restaurant and filling up the limited space for seating inside. And only one cashier!? All when you pay over 30 dollars for fast food! This is one of the smallest Habit Burger and Grill locations that I have been to. As mentioned there is one cashier and self cashier station. As for seating, the seating area is very limited- one hallway of booths along the window side and tables on the other side. Very small area. Also, there are a couple tables outside that you have to exit from the dining room to use. As for food- my chicken club sandwich was disappointing- very limited chicken and guacamole in the sandwich. The chicken was super thin, over cooked, and smaller than the parameter of the bun. The lettuce did not look fresh, but could be that the lettuce was grilled and that's why it looked off. The tomato did not have a lot of taste. As for guacamole- it was so limited on the sandwich that I could not taste it. Sandwich disappointing for the taste. As this is my go to spot for semi-fast food, I was disappointed with my experience from quality of food to cleanliness of location. read more

I was craving a burger and my husband suggested we come to Habit since we were in the area. When you walk in you can order via a kiosk or in person with someone at the counter. I ordered their BBQ Bacon Burger with fries and my husband ordered a Grilled Chicken sandwich with a side salad. I completely forgot to take pictures. Even though we ordered via the kiosk the interaction we did have with the staff was very friendly and pleasant. The food was cooked fresh, seasoned well and delicious. We eat here often. The place is clean (you can always tell by looking at the restroom), the staff who greet you are kind and helpful (if you don't want to talk to anyone use their screens to order. ) Our order was made promptly and there are tables to eat outdoors on the ample patio or inside in booths. Last time we visited there was a $5 menu with a BLT and grilled cheese and those were yummy but were not available this time. This is one place that my whole family can eat at and that is greatly appreciated! Kids meals, and the Santa Barbara char, yum! One order was wrong out of 4 but when I brought it to their attention, it was quickly rectified. We've always enjoyed Habit Burger's Santa Barbara Char burger, and was pleased when we saw that they had a $10 Special: Half-Santa Barbara char burger, salad, chicken bites, and a big drink. I went to buy it and take it home. Cashier was friendly and helpful. All items were good, EXCEPT the chicken bites - it was very dry, and extremely salty. Yesterday, 3/17/2024, I visited this location. I wanted to order the Grown-Up Meal and was told by the women behind the counter, I had to use the kiosk. I was there a few days earlier, was greeted in a friendly fashion, and was helped get my order handled. The worker on this visit was rude and annoyed by me asking her for help. For the record, the place was quiet and she was not doing any other tasks from what I could see. I could not find the deal on the kiosk an said keep looking. I wanted to make some changes and instead of coming around to do the right thing and help, she just said look for customization tab. I was appalled at how I was treated and I have choices, she could have been more helpful but chose to just be angry that her attention was asked for. This location continues to provide awesome food. I read several reviews reporting incorrect orders are quite common at this location. I myself have never gotten my orders wrong here. Parking can be challenging especially on weekends. The place is kept clean and well maintained. Customer service is mediocre. Love The Habit, you can depend on delicious toasted sandwiches, and always a must are the tempura beans - ask for their adjoining mildly spicy dressing. An all-time favorite of mine is the grilled chicken sammich - upgrade at $1 for the 'completely worth it' pineapple addition. Served with teriyaki sauce on the side or on your sammich- I always go for on the side to avoid sogginess. Side salads are so great at certain locations- especially at this location in Thousand Oaks, and also in the town of Santa Maria. Add the guacamole for another 'worth it' upgrade. My rating is based on the service and the food. The service was actually great. The staff were accommodating and friendly. The food however was not great at this location. We ordered 2 Santa Barbara Char Burgers, 1 regular style and 1 protein style. It is advertised as having 2 patties each. It is more like one. The meal altogether was pretty cold. It just didn't seem fresh. We also got green beans and fries. The green beans were pretty good, but the fries were cold and soggy. I am shocked that they sent the food out of the restaurant the way we received it. We ordered burgers and a chicken sandwich. First off, the regular char burger was labeled as the impossible burger.. thank god the person who ordered the impossible burger didn't bite into it. Second, the chicken sandwich was in between two pieces of moldy bread. Absolutely disgusting. A pregnant woman was supposed to be eating the chicken sandwich. The char burger had scorched onions on it that tasted like char from a grill - absolutely disgusting. This one, and all the locations I've been to since, are kept very clean, too. Also, no matter the location -- I've experienced consistency across the chain. Whether you choose burgers, fries, salads, or all three -- it's fresh, good quality, well-priced, and quick. My favorite burger is the Teriyaki Char Burger ($3.65) and with Cheese ($4.25) -- love that char flavor and sweet tangy sauce. It's nearly impossible to avoid their super fries (heck yeah!), so I would typically get a combo that includes a soft drink ($7.65). That's fast food prices, and yet, no sacrifice on quality whatsoever. I also highly recommend their salads. They have several kinds to choose from. More than half of my visits I would order the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad ($7.25), and add bbq sauce atop. It is supreme! The chicken is served warm, and again, love that charbroiled flavor. I have some serious complaints about some recent moves they have made. First off, they give a smaller amount of Ranch dressing with their green beans, nearly half as much. Both in a smaller cup, and only about half full. This wasn't that much of a concern in the past, as they would give you extra, if necessary, in the past. Now they want to charge sixty cents for each additional cup. I know people abuse their generosity, but on the other hand, at least go back to providing a full cup, and the previous size. Also, they recently made the change to Pepsi products. Why? Pepsi is truly an inferior product. You make a quality burger, it should be complimented with a good product. But beyond that, many of the drinks they opted to replace really do not make sense since they already make teas and fruit drinks. And they didn't replace Root beer on the selection. The food is good, one of the best burgers for the price. However, their ordering and customer service system could use some improvement. There is no way to contact the restaurant, even though I was dismissed by a counter worker saying that I should Google it, but only the same number comes up, the ordering number. So, if you want to check and see if they have something, you cannot. I did just this, since they had been out of what I wanted the night before. I was told they had it. I ordered it and gave them my credit card info. When I got there, I waited for 10 minutes, until I finally went up to the counter to inquire. I was told they were waiting for me to contact them when I arrived. In other words, they expected me to do their job for them. They do everything else by phone and text, so I was surprised I didn't receive a text to inform me that they were still out of what I wanted. I was offered other replacement items but was really craving what I had ordered, so I declined. I told the woman behind the counter that I had called and asked about it before I ordered it. She said they had no contact with the ordering phone line, so the number I called had no idea if the item was in or not. Not a great way to run a biz if you ask me, but I guess they just want to sell you something, anything. Then, I had to ask her about getting refunded. She wasn't going to say anything. She certainly wasn't taking care of me very well. She was also getting nasty. Meanwhile, some man tried to bully me to hurry up, and the woman helping me abruptly and very rudely started to leave me standing there to serve him before we were through. I called her back to ask her about a refund. The lady behind the counter took the last four digits of my credit card and told me I'd be refunded in 5 biz days. 5!!! Actually, she scribbled something on a piece of paper. I can't be sure what. She just wanted to get rid of me and really didn't care if I was taken care of to my satisfaction or not. What if I hadn't asked her? I thought about this and realized she had lied to me several times. As I went about my day, I decided I wasn't confident in her getting me a refund, so I called the ordering number back again and told them the whole story. She asked me who told me about the refund and said she didn't know if that woman could even do that. I asked to speak to a supervisor, only to be told no one was available. So, then, I was told to message customer service at the company's website. OMG, why do they make it so complicated!?! My family was in the restaurant biz for years, and I've never seen anything like this poor customer service system and lack of communication between biz components. What should have happened would have been that I would have been given a rain check for when the item was back in stock. But, I suppose, that's our modern world, no caring at lightening speed, as long as they get your money. On top of it all, even when you do everything right, they make you feel like the bad guy. Meanwhile, I got a text message telling me my non-existent order was ready!!! omg UPDATE; Not only did the woman behind the counter not credit back my account, she charged me TWICE!! Update No. 2; So, I received a message here from an anonymous manager asking me to repeat the whole story yet again after I've done so to countless "customer care" people to no satisfaction so far. They even asked which restaurant when the review is on this one's Yelp page. An email was provided, only it's conveniently incomplete. When messaging back to ask for a complete one, the email won't send, presumably since I'd already sent one. I guess one is all you get. Customer communications with this biz are really not so great. I will never order by phone there again, if I even go back. I've had my info removed from their ordering system. I'm afraid I'll keep getting charged for food I never get. I've noticed this a lot lately. A business can contact you, but you have no way to contact it with any concerns. Edible but they do not know anything about sourcing of fish. Tried it once, not interested in trying it again. Gardenburger sits like a ton of bricks on my stomach and gives me stomach cramps. Also needs flavor of any kind. Basically i do not like it here at all but give it three stars because it makes it easy to feed my family who really love it, so I think it depends on your taste. I have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but every single time I have been here my order has been completely wrong. It's like they don't even read the ticket. I work in the area so I have eaten here quite often and given them way too many chances. When I ask for no lettuce and tomatoes there's always lettuce and tomatoes. When I ask for a teriyaki burger I never get a teriyaki burger. It's just always completely wrong. The food is fine but it's frustrating the number of times I have to correct my order. This is my favorite Habit restaurant. The staff is always friendly and gets my order done correctly every time. Nancy is an asset to the company. She always tends to my needs quickly and with a smile. I also like the layout of this habit better then the others that I have been to. The habit has fresh and tasty food at a good value.
