The place was packed, but I have to assume we got really lucky because we got seated right away at an open table near the front. Our server greeted us immediately and brought us waters for the table. We were overwhelmed initially by the menu options because everything sounded incredible. We asked our waitress what she recommended, and she said literally everything on the menu is amazing - nothing is bad and every dish is popular. So I was quite impressed to hear that. My friend and I decided to get the steak tartare, woodfire grilled octopus, fried gnocchi, and chicken liver pate. Every single dish was actually incredible. The chicken liver pate came with four slices of toast, some pickled vegetables and ground mustard. The pate was creamy, rich, slightly on the sweeter side, so it paired perfectly with the tang from the ground mustard & pickled vegetables. The woodfire grilled octopus was cooked perfectly. Seriously the best, freshest octopus I've ever had! It wasn't chewy or fishy at all. The texture was absolutely perfect. It was very easy to cut into and juicy. It was paired perfectly with the aïoli as well. The steak tartare was extremely fresh. One of the things that I hate about steak tartare at restaurants sometimes is it will start to look brown from the meat oxidizing so it doesn't always look as appetizing, but this tartare was still had that vibrant red color as if they had just cut the meat. Lastly, the fried gnocchi was amazing. It's the first time I've ever had a dish with fried gnocchi. They paired it with a cream sauce that was absolutely delicious. I wish I remembered what was in it, but it was so good. I wanted to drink that sauce lol. Love how the gnocchi was also perfectly seared, had no lumps, and basically melts in your mouth. Overall, loved the ambience of this place as well. It's very hip. trendy. Definitely a louder environment but perfect for a weekend night out to enjoy great food. I would recommend making reservations. I think my friend and I probably just got lucky because we went a little bit earlier on a Friday night. Also wanna mention all of the wait staff was amazing. We understand that restaurants can't control every guest, but when multiple customers express concerns about a major disturbance, we would expect staff to at least attempt to address it. Overall, I'm not sure I can recommend this restaurant based on our experience. Note: I'd also like to mention that the service was inconsistent throughout our visit. We ended up being helped by several different servers, which made it difficult to know who was actually taking care of our table. At one point, we simply wanted to order another drink. Our server, Michael, was incredibly kind and attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and raved about how delicious the food was. He was right! The food was excellent! My ribeye was tender and cooked perfectly. My husband's meal was equally as good. We will definitely be back. Unfortunately, that's exactly what this ended up being. When we entered, it was an untraditional restaurant experience as you go to a tablet/ screen area and choose from one of the six or so "restaurants" that they have to choose from. In theory, this is super cool! However, certain foods are good because a lot of the times, the people making them worked on perfecting that dish for you and others. Additionally, when you don't have a hostess and/ or server, there's an extra level of relationship building with the customer that you now don't get. People can manage, but it's the customer service that sometimes can make or break a business. This restaurant used to be Social Monk, until they decided to add the five or so other, now essentially, ghost kitchens that all operate under that same old Social Monk roof. Once we paid and finished ordering on the screen, we sat down and waited for our food. The seating area was a bit cramped inside, but expanded to outside which was nice. Inside, they had little tubs of candy around the store for purchase. There's also a fountain and a gelato store nearby, which is great for families looking to make more of their day. The positives? The area is nice. The literal neighbors, like the gelato place next door, are great! The speed in which we got our food was good, too, as well as the variety of options of food that they have available. My food came as a bigger portion size than what I was expecting, so I could hypothetically get maybe two meals out of it. The negatives? I brought my food back to the counter area where they had registers not in use and asked a worker if I could get a refund. Maybe this wasn't their day? Westlake doesn't have much variety, so having options like this is nice and I can see why so many people find them appealing - it's just not good food.
