Use to LOVE shopping at habitat in mckinney. On top of getting home improvement items needed at a reasonable price they had everything. It was fun to just go walk around and look. The people were always friendly and helpful. Went in there today. The lady at the register was rude actually hateful. The prices are so expensive you'd be better off going and buying it new because if you buy it here your going to pay for it like it's new. They hardly have anything there a used electric stove was $800 dollars. Crazy! I bought mine at best buy outlet for 6 or had a small scratch but new... plus the employees were nice and helpful. WORST THRIFT STORE IN COLLIN COUNTY. I'd know because I spend most of my time thrifting. On my most recent visit to HABITAT FOR HUMANITY RESTORE McKINNEY (September 13, 2025) they had a table set up with all kinds of tools and hardware, with a sign attached to the front stating "all items $3.67 each." Great. So I picked out a couple of tools (a small wrench and something else), went up to the counter to pay, and they rung up as $12-something total--or 2x THE PRICE MARKED AT THE TABLE! So I asked the very unfriendly cashier what's up? She said "the sign on the table doesn't refer to ALL the items on the table." ?? So they're mispricing items. They KNOW they're mispricing items. They refuse to honor their own marked prices! The whole building (it's quite large) is a dingy, dirty, smelly industrial zone. It looks and feels like a former factory or automotive manufacturing facility. The building literally doesn't have a floor (the "floor" is actually a parking lot!). No air conditioning, which is excusable, but you'd think they'd be more friendly and organized (and honest) to make up for some of the negatives. No such luck. They do have a nice variety of items--occasional free books by the front door, for example--but the furniture and office chairs have some kind of sticky "film" on them... such that when you touch an item, your hands immediately feel clammy and dirty, as if you just finished cleaning a toilet. A lot of the construction materials (the rear and largest section of the store) are in very poor, secondhand condition; they appear to be leftovers from construction jobs. Many items are very badly broken and damaged. I can't think of anyone who'd want these items for any kind of home improvement project. It's almost like they were sent here from previous Habitat for Humanity projects instead of going to the landfill, where they belong. In the past I enjoyed the occasional visit (and more so since they closed the Plano store), but rarely, if ever, purchased anything. And now, with them not honoring marked prices, it's totally deceitful and dishonest. Not going back. read more

Me and a friend sat outside the drop off area for close to 10 minutes waiting in the car, as per the big sign posted. Watched two individuals just stand there but never approached our vehicle to ask about the trunk full of items we had to donate. Took them elsewhere. read more

I love Restore but this branch is just unreliable. I've driven across town twice since the one closer to me was permanently closed and twice this was closed unexpectedly. This is not how to operate a business. We are done. read more

If you are looking for great deals on items for your home but you don't want to pay full price, this is one of the best spots to find them. Every week, the store offers sales on certain items that are marked with a colored tag, so bargains are easy to spot. In addition to home building materials and supplies, you can also find fantastic furniture. I recently purchased my dining room table and chairs there at the cost of $300, and when I looked it up online, I discovered that the set had been made by a very famous furniture designer and was worth thousands of dollars! If you like to refinish furniture, there are plenty of items there that you will love. There are also lots of knick-knacks/collectible pieces, picture frames, gorgeous rugs, various doors and shutters, and appliances that have been tested to ensure that they work well. One time, I found a stellar file cabinet for only $5! My entire kitchen was re-tiled last year and the tiles came from this store. Please see photo below! These tiles retailed for over $40 per square foot; I bought them here at $4.99/sq. ft. brand new! Don't miss the deals in front of the store; one can often find patio furniture, new bathtubs, and lots of other great items. Found a signed picture of Tom Jones on one of the art shelves where other items were for sale. No certificate of authenticity. Took it to the counter to ask for a price and buy the item since it wasn't labeled. They told us they wouldn't sell it to us because it wasn't priced, and they wanted to see how much they could get for it before selling it. They wanted us to come back and get it once they had looked it up and priced it for what the internet said it was worth. Non-profit greed at its finest. All for a DONATED item. Might as well buy one at a store that's brand new and in great condition. No more donations from us! P.S. The manager (person who is SALARIED and not a volunteer) would not speak to us. read more

I haven't been to this store since before COVID. However, I needed a new kitchen table so I decided to venture out to the store. Since they normally have a large selection of items, priced reasonably and good customer service. However, I will not be going back until after COVID. The vast majority of staff were not wearing a mask. Even though there's a mask mandate in McKinney and there's signage on the door that it's required to wear a mask inside. Upon checkout I noticed the cashier was not wearing a mask. I asked him politely to put on a mask. He gave me massive attitude and asked someone else to ring my family and I up. He then walked off in a huff, eventually putting on a mask, thankfully. The women who then checked us out I noticed was not wearing her mask correctly. I asked her politely to put her mask over her nose. She then proceeded to roll her eyes at me. Upon loading items into our car the gentleman, who walked off in a huff, and another employee, were thankfully both wearing masks and I thanked them for that. However, the attitude of the employees at this location for asking them to comply with a mandate is absolutely ridiculous. Especially, since we're in a pandemic. It's definitely the new Managers they have, who I noticed in the office, were not wearing masks. So they aren't enforcing it. I will give this location another chance, but not until after the pandemic. Since they don't appear to really care about the safety/ health of their customers. read more

I love what Habitat does for communities. But the customer service that I received at this location was way below what I consider acceptable. I was there for about an hour before anyone spoke to me despite passing every employee in the store. I was plugging in a lamp to test it when a young lady finally spoke to me and said, " SIR, all of our appliances are tested." in a very curt tone. I responded, "Well, this one's been tested twice" in a joking manner. She didn't like that at all and muttered something under her breathe that I couldn't make out. She definitely needs to explore options other than retail. She cost Habitat for Humanity a sale today. I wonder how many others she has cost them. I won't be back to this location for a couple months. I'm guessing she won't last that long. I'll amend my review if the next trip is more pleasant. read more

I went into this location this week. It seems to have caught the Plano "high price" bug. There were new faucet fixtures and furnitures at over the retail price. I would never pay retail with them. There I saw two dressers priced at $450 each. I paid less for brand new dressers at Freed's furniture. They had an accent chair for $175. I've seen similar accent chairs on Overstock.com, at T.J. Maxx and Marshall's for less. Their light fixtures don't seem to sell. Each time I go in they seem to be the same ones or maybe the same styles. I'm no longer a fan. Previous review and rating: 11/8/2012- *** (3 Stars) My rating is actually a 3.5. It is OK and I'm a fan. This REstore is really hit and miss. When they get a large shipment of something they really do their best to move it. This is smart business management. They want to make room for the next good deal they will get and make a profit as well. The Plano, TX store could really learn something from them. However, when their store doesn't get a large quantity of items it is really bare bones. It becomes the same ole same ole in there; paint, painting supplies, spindles, toilets, sinks, doors, etc. In this sense it is like a thrift store where you have to "go and see" regularly to grab a good find. The people working this location are friendly. It is also larger and cleaner than the Plano location. Their pricing of items is very realistic. They aren't in "La La Land" over their used stuff. They realize that people are coming there looking for deals. Either they buy it at a discount with them or they buy it from Lowes or Home Depot. If only they could get their newsletters to show pictures of the items they get in stock; that would be great. read more

We have stopped donating due to their vetting process. You receive a lengthy list of what they don't take, have to submit pictures, etc. While we understand they don't want trash, this is the second time we have turned over most of the near new furniture in our home (original value over $10,000). Most other donation center options say "thank you" and schedule a mutually convenient pick up. read more

Love the way I can go in and get a single door knob to fix one that broke in my house for a great price. I like being able to buy nails from bins, by the pound or "cup" as it may be. That way I don't have to buy a box of 16p nails that I'd never use in a lifetime. Some really, really great deals here. Some things are over priced. Check it out and keep in mind what they have for the next time you need something! The money goes for a GREAT cause! read more

Diamond in the rough. They have some items priced pretty high and certainly some junky items but for the dive that it is, I've now bought 3 outstanding pieces of furniture for a great price and refinished them. If you're looking for furniture to flip, come regularly. You can always try haggling and I've had luck doing that twice here read more

I was in McKinney when I saw the sign for this. I was looking for something specific and there were only a few items, 2 of the 3 had no prices, and the other pricing seemed to be excessive. Since it was my first time in the store, I asked another Patron if the prices were firm and she told me who to see to discuss a reduction in price. I found that individual and she immediately sent me to another store employee and shut her door. I took the person back to both items without prices and you would have thought they were new furniture, however both items needed a lot of work. Although no price was on the item, the employee barked out what I thought was an excessive price. I also asked for price for second item and same thing happened without even looking at how bad the item looked gave me exact same price. Guess that is the going price for those type items, even if they need a lot of work. These were NOT showplace items. If you are looking for a bargain, you won't get one here unless you are prepared to pay full price like you are going to a home store. I do not recommend this store unless you have a packed wallet. As I was leaving, I asked; "are you sure you couldn't come down on the price any"? My answer was nothing but a stern NO. No customer service skills seem to be present in this store. Employees should be given authority to review an item and price fully before just telling the customer NO. I felt I was treated pretty rude for a place that accepts donations. I have been to other HFH stores in the Dallas area where I was treated with respect when I donated and bought from the stores. This store needs a lesson in Customer Service and employees be given same authority to reduce the price, especially on items both without prices and those that need a lot of work. read more

Written from the perspective of a donor. Texted an inquiry as directed on the website. No answer. Called as suggested as an alternative means of contact. No answer. Packed up and drove over. No answer to the bell outside the collection area. Went inside and simply stated that I had a drop off and no one had responded to the bell. Got a surely "that's because I was waiting on a customer." Backed the truck around and was informed we don't accept rugs. I would have known that had someone answered the text, the telephone or had it been on the website list of exclusions. This was followed by a simple no on the cocktail table. In stark contrast I had a fabulous experience with the Grayson county ReStore when disposing of my mother-in-law's estate. The manager at this McKinney Collin County store needs a lesson in marketing. In a business where you rely on donations from the public, you need to be thankful when anyone brings you worthy merchandise you can sell to raise money for this great cause. However, there are also many donations that are not of resale value, and although hearts may be in the right place, these items need to go to the dump. I brought a very good condition, clean, working washer and dryer set along with some smaller items in good shape. I did not know they were closed on Monday, and I noticed others had left some donations by the back door, I could have gone on to find someplace that was open, but I have volunteered in Habitat builds and believe in Habitat. So I left the items, with a note on what I donated, and that I would be back to pick up a receipt later. When I came back to pick up a receipt, I was told that what I did was considered "dumping", was not appreciated, and was also illegal. (apparently someone also put some well used furniture out there as well) But, out of the kindness of their hearts, they would still offer me a receipt for the items. I couldn't believe what I heard. When I asked to speak to the manager, she affirmed the same information. Her explanation was that they get a lot of junk that is dumped at their back door under the auspice of donation, and they don't like that. I completely understand that. It would indeed be frustrating to have to through their junk away for them. However, you also get some fine donations from folks, and in this business, you have to take the bad to get to the good. Its part of the effort. To admonish me for "dumping" very nice donations and include me in the group of folks and donations that are not appreciated, was disheartening, and really upset me. The correct response in my mind would have been "Thank you for your donation. Sorry we are closed on Mondays. What were the items you left?" Then, and only if you can be sure, I may tell someone for future reference that the items donated were not on par with what could be resold, but thank you for thinking of others. But to accuse me of donating crap right off the bat was very rude. I told them I would be happy to take the items back, but then she said oh no, we have already taken them inside and processed them. I left. I didn't want the receipt. Next time I will just keep driving to find a place that appreciates everyone who has a heart to donate, and learn to accept that you still smile and do you best even when someone brings you junk. I LOVE this place! I had been making multiple trips to Walmart and HD to get the hardware for the quail cages I had been building. I found everything I needed at this store for a fraction of the price I paid at the other stores. Ever since finding this place, I've been going once a week and spending at least 2 hours each time just perusing the aisles. There's always something new to look at! read more

Having just bought a house that was a great opportunity(meaning lots of work) I am thrilled to find this store. I was impressed with the amount of selection, how well it was displayed and the general kindness of the volunteers. I didn't give it a 5 star because I do feel the prices were a little high. It is used and removed from God knows how old or how it was cared for houses. The prices should reflect that a little bit more. It's still cheaper than new. The furniture is not a good deal. I can find new for about the same and be willing to pay it for new. read more
