I went to Karma for a facial and had the best experience. Every employee I encountered was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lovely, well cared for, and calming. My daily life comes with a fair bit of stress, and I found myself relaxed in the environment. The facial itself was awesome. Karma is considerate and knowledgeable. I had skin issues going in and she made me feel comfortable with skin conditions that can feel embarrassing. I enjoyed the massage(!) parts that I didn't know would come with the facial. I left more educated with how to care for my skin and got to hear about some products in an informative (and not at all pushy!) fashion. What a rarity for most salons and spas! The place is unprofessional, overpriced, and I left twice showing severe signs of poisoning. I had a hair cut that barely cut my hair and another one done by a different stylist who was so rude I had to leave before having my hair cut. On top of awful experiences here was charged 10% fee on top of my usual tips and the place isn't cheap. If you like to pay a lot to be abused, this is your place. But nice own above the business, so if you are affiliated with the right groups or secret societies, maybe you will get great treatment here. read more

LOVE this place. I've been here probably over 10 times, average once a month since I got the living social deal with my friend. For the price and what you get, it's totally worth going. I love their premium services. They treat you like queens! My favorite combo package is the ultimate facial (make sure you schedule your free hair blow out cause it's free). They take good care of your feet, face, hair and it feels so nice. The ultimate massage is also nice but it feels more like a Swedish massage to me and it's a little soft. A wonderful location to get a quality hair cut with your choice of Aveda or Bumble and Bumble products. The location is located near the Ballard locks and has easy street parking, friendly staff (other then the rep who I booked my appointment with who clearly hates Groupon) and they provide a very quality haircut with a stylist who takes the time to listen, ask questions and provide honest feedback to give you a quality haircut. The mens haircuts start at $35.00 but are worth every penny. You can easily get a haircut for less; however, the get a haircut from a stylist who truly cares about your experience, asks questions and understands current styles this is the place to go. If a manager is reading this though- please train the appointment booker to not instantly hate your Groupon guests- these are new guests to your office and her first impression was horrible. read more

I had a great experience at this spa yesterday. I came in for a brown/eyelash tint and a haircut. The ladies in the spa area were very kind and offered me a cup of that yummy Aveda tea while I waited. Tera did the tinting and she was amazing! I have never had better results. My haircut was with Naomi who was equally awesome. She cut my hair exactly how I asked and was very good about asking what hair products I wanted used in my hair. She gave me a neck massage to start and flat-ironed my hair at the end. I will be back to see these lovely ladies again! I had a Groupon (which made the experience that much cooler) and the receptionist gladly excepted it without judgment. I usually love Habitude but was so disappointed in my last visit. The stylist was great and I eagerly booked with her again before leaving. Unfortunately, later that day I checked my emailed receipt and saw that a 10% SERVICE FEE was added. On top of the 20% tip I left this meant that I paid 30% MORE than the cost of the haircut! Wish they had been more transparent at check-out. If it's indeed similar to a restaurant service fee then it takes the place of the tip (and that's clearly marked in the meal receipt so any extra tip can be adjusted). read more

Kayla is still great for hair. The 2 star review is for massage services--they are terrible. I signed up for their "insider" package so I received a massage each month since November and tried different masseuses. I tried three different people and only one was okay (but she doesn't work the evenings that I am free)--the other masseuses you could barely feel their touch and one nearly dislocated my shoulder by doing a weird stretch. I still have a massage booked here because I have to use up my insider package, but look elsewhere if you actually want your massage to help sore muscles. I am over someone just resting their hands on my body-you should move your fingers and target the muscles! My dog lays on me harder than these people massage you! read more

Honestly, I was a little nervous to make an appointment at Habitude. The reviews aren't great and it's not a cheap place so I wasn't exactly chomping at the bit to try it out. But my boyfriend got me a gift certificate as an early Christmas present to de-stress with all of the holiday madness so I booked an essential massage with Jeff and it was fantastic! There is nothing I would change about my massage and Jeff's technique. He was consultative at the beginning and checked in not long after the massage started to see if there were any adjustments he could make. As someone who isn't great at voicing my opinion when I want something done differently, I appreciated that he opened that door himself and made it easy for me to tell him whether there was anything I wanted him to change. After the massage was over, he sat with me and went over things he found and places where I seemed to hold stress to help make me aware of it in my every day life. I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who has been treated like an idiot by the staff here. I have been getting facials here for years, and whenever there is an issue with anything, the front desk staff are incredibly rude and condescending, and treat you like you are an annoyance for having an issue. The booking system is difficult to navigate and treatments have different names on the menu, on the booking portion, and on the confirmation email that is sent to you. It seems that facials have multiple names and nobody is sure what facial=what treatment. I clearly got the wrong treatment and when I respectfully told the front desk what had happened, they tried to convince me that I was wrong, and were clearly very annoyed with me. There was no accountability for the mistake that was made. The facialists/masseuses here are great, but the front desk/customer service people need a major overhaul. read more

I've been to Habitude Ballard three times for pedicures. After my first experience, I didn't think I would be back and was skeptical about the quality of the service. I'll explain more about why I'm a believer now. Before my first appointment, I received two text messages and an email to confirm. I find that a bit excessive. I was even more put out when I was timely and the staff member took me 15 minutes late. It was a leisurely service that I thought would take an hour (which is customary). The person working on me that day could have done more cuticle and heel work and my toenails were left a bit long. My feet got the paraffin treatment and a bit of a scrub and lotion rub. When I got home, I had decided that I wouldn't be back. It didn't feel like I got the service that warranted the price. After the first week, I had to eat my words. The polish looked great and didn't chip once! My cuticles would have been dried and peeling with a typical pedicure but surprise, they also looked great! I decided to go back but hoped I wouldn't get the same person again. Not only did she take me late, she ran late. I had to meet my family at a movie and this was cramping my style. My next two services with two different staff members were excellent! Both gave great attention to my cuticles and nails. They both gave me a long leg rub with just the right amount of pressure. The neck warmer and essential oils completed the experience. They did a great job on the paint but could use better perception around the cut of my toenails (uniform length and symmetry). I also got a bit of a neck rub from both, something the first staff member didn't have time for. As before, the polish lasted and never chipped. The thing I enjoy the least is that the chairs are wooden and not adjustable. That's difficult to deal with since I'm short and have to scoot myself to the very edge of the chair. Attitude is good in some staff and not in others, some of the stylists seem very unhappy. However there are some great people there. I had spent a few years getting my hair healthy before getting it colored again. I went here and saw Alex. She told someone, while I had a bunch of bleach and saran wrap on my head, that it was her first time to do a Balayage. I started to worry at that point. After five hours, I paid for the service and gave her a nice tip. I wasn't sure it was right when I was there but I thought, "Maybe the lighting is making it worse than it is. So I went home and looked in the mirror and about had a breakdown. It was so brassy and orange and it covered the entire top of my head except for one big patch just above my bangs. If you want to have your hair done properly, please don't waste your money on this place. I would let them cut a man's hair or even a child's, but when you have long hair and get it styled and colored regularly. I recommend BreCyn Salon (or any other salon). I called and told them about it and a lady returned my call stating that she would graciously offer a free facial. ?? I don't want or need a facial. That was the last straw. Never again. This review is for the spa, specifically their nail services. What a disappointment! I bought a Groupon for a Prana pedicure (Groupon cost $44, I think the pedicure retails for $65) Save your money! Nothing in this pedicure is worth $44, it's not a step up from the numerous $25 or $30 pedicures around town. The only thing differentiating this pedicure from less expensive ones was the use of a few essential oils. The massage felt like it lasted for a minute. I'd also scheduled a shellac manicure. They didn't have the color I wanted, in fact, they were out of half of the shellac options. I ended up not getting the manicure. Judging by the prices they ask, you would think this is a step up from your neighborhood nail salon. It's not. Save you money and go somewhere else, this place isn't worth it! read more

The spa itself is very relaxing, show up a bit early to take time to sit in the sauna and have a refreshing shower. There are also seating nooks with light snacks and tea and water. The facial was fantastic, Caitlyn was extremely friendly and sweet, and very non-judgmental about my breakouts. She offered advice on how to change my routine without the hard push to purchase products like other salons do. I left feeling very relaxing and glowing and happy! Super bummed. My daughters played with hair color during covid but with the return to real life, I took one of my daughters in to have her color evened out. While the range on the website is significant for color, I was expecting around $300 or so. We did a consult and it seems pretty straightforward so I sent my daughter the next week by herself as part of trying to be considerate about covid. My daughter came home and the service was $550. Not only did they place a teenager with a premium stylist (their most expensive tier) but they also sent her home with a completely unnecessary $31 conditioner. Up sell on top of up sell. While they trimmed her ends, there wasn't a lot of styling or cutting and the color is less brassy, I am not blown away by the color or style. But I was blown away by the lack of any advance notice about the cost of service during our consult. The whole process felt very predatory. We won't be back. read more

OK, before I launch into my rant, let me just say that I've had several services at Habitude - a massage, a facial, and a pedicure. All of the services were pleasant experiences for the most part, and handled professionally. It is the pedicure I am writing about specifically. Normally I go to one of my local nail salons to get my pedicures. They generally aren't amazing as far as the massage portions (very brief in almost all cases), but they almost all do a very good job in all of the other areas and are decently priced, averaging around $25.00 for a "standard" pedicure. These consist of sitting in a padded massage chair while soaking in a foot bath (of course), some kind of scrub done on the legs and feet, cuticle trimming and pumice type sloughing, massage and polish of course. Some salons even give you a minuscule hot rock massage, included with a standard pedicure. I thought I'd try Habitude's "Essential" pedicure since I figured it would have to be better than what I'd experienced in the local joints. And in some ways, it was. The spa atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and the pedicure includes the use of your choice of one of three Aveda essential oils, which I've always loved. The pedicure itself was efficiently done, the technician thorough and pleasant. The available colors of polish are really nice featuring mostly Essie along with another brand I'm not familiar with. Being no longer a "spring chicken", my eyesight isn't as good as it used to be, and I mistook the cost of the pedicure to be $38.00 when it was, in fact, $58.00. When the cashier told me the price I nearly fell over and even ended up walking away (after paying/tipping of course) in a sort of daze, feeling actually violated. Now, I KNOW that spa services don't come cheap, but the pedicure I received was a STANDARD pedicure in terms of scope, with a few minutes more massage than you get in the local salons (but not much more). That is all that differentiated it, aside from the Aveda oils incorporated. There is NO WAY this pedicure was worth just $2.00 short of $60.00! It even lasted 10 minutes LESS than the hour it was supposed to take. At this cost, the pedicure should offer MUCH MORE than it does. Stone massage or paraffin or some other things to set it apart. It truly is an outrageous cost for something that is only marginally better than what you can get for $25.00. I also looked into other spas and what they offered and for $60.00 (sorry, $58) you get so much. in addition, their wooden pedicure chairs, though covered with pillows, do not recline in any way and are hard. And your toenails are polished on top of a towel on a non-padded surface of wood which actually hurt my feet. I do plan on going back to Habitude for other services, but a pedicure will NOT be one of them! read more

I had THE best facial of my life here last week!!! Very clean, very relaxing facility in general, but I also enjoyed the little touches like snacks, magazines, luxury robes and infused waters or teas. I came early so I could relax before my appointment. There's a dry sauna, but I didn't use it this go-around. There are also private showers with aveda products and fresh towels if you want to rinse off. The facial itself was 60 minutes of treatment that combined essential oils, head/neck/scalp massages and rejuvenating skin products. My skin still feels so soft days later! My esthetician took her time to make sure I was comfortable throughout and having my expectations met. Afterwards I relaxed with a complimentary chai and chocolate. Loved it!
