I took my kids and visiting family here on a Thursday when the kids had no school. I hear it can get crowded on the weekends, but on Thursday when we arrived a little before noon, it wasn't bad. They had a steady stream of newcomers but not too crowded. It was fairly easy to find though going there, my map told me to go down a treacherous gravel road which I wasn't terribly fond of. They have a moderately sized parking lot and you'll see this large, red barn. That's where you get your goodies (there's often a line) and where their store is. We stopped by for a treat first. They sell ice cream, cider floats, and what is a "TikTok famous" coffee float with donut. We got: Cider ($4) - I didn't actually drink this. I got it for my kid with food allergies. He wanted ice cream but they do not know if the ice cream they use contains eggs or not so we played it safe. My kid thought it was okay but finally finished it later. He typically prefers regular apple juice. Cider float with donut - you have a choice of no donut for $2 less. It's like a root beer float but with cider instead of root beer, black and orange sprinkles around the time of the cup, whipped cream, and a powdered cider donut over it all. I shared this with my daughter. That donut was delicious! Warm, tender, and crisp on the outside. The drink was great! I do wish it came with a spoon because it got difficult finishing the last of it. Warning: if you have one of these, the bees are coming for you. They use some sort of caramel-like sauce to get the sprinkles to stick. Overall, quite good. Maple cider donut ($3): my sister got this and she said it was amazing, but she said she thought $3 was a bit much (the unglazed donuts are $1.25 each). She's vegan, so didn't partake in the float, but she also wasn't going to ask if there's milk in the donut. If you're getting only donuts, they are purchased in the store. They have tables and chairs nearby for you to picnic and enjoy your treats. Going through the gates, there was a table but they were busy with other people so we walked right in. There is no entrance fee, which was nice. You go through the apple orchard first. It seems like most of the apples have been picked through, though there are a lot of developing apples. Some of the nicer ones were way too tall for us; they don't provide ladders. We only managed to find one that looked nice. At the end, there used to be a sunflower field and the corn maze. It's epic but you don't know how formidable until you're past the point of return and realize it's not a kids maze. We were in there for a while! Even met other kids that thought they'd be lost forever. The corn stalks are taller than a human and they're pretty dense so you can't look over or through them. It's a true maze and I was impressed. I wish they would provide a paper maze puzzle of the corn maze because I'm so curious how it is from above. Lots of dead ends. What I can say is don't lose hope. You'll get there! (When we finally found the exit, it was almost like a dream because we had been staring at corn for so long.) In hindsight, it was good we ate something first. Once done, we explored the sunflowers and saw the pumpkin patch. As we headed out, we went to pay for our lone apple and we discovered THE CORN MAZE IS NOT FREE. It's $10 per adult and $5 per kid. They charged us $1 for the single apple. I guess they work on the honor system? I didn't mind much because that maze clearly took planning. Before we left, we visited the store full of baked goodies. I got a few cider donuts, a dumpling, and a piece of crumb cake because they just brought out a fresh tray. Plus a lattice harvest pie. The pies with crumble aren't vegan, but the lattice pies are made of vegetable shortening. Restrooms! They have a row of port-a-potties by the parking lot. They're actually the cleanest ones I've been to before. No sinks but they do have a dispenser of antibacterial hand gel. The openings are a bit large so if your kid needs to use the toilets, hold onto them. Overall, it was quite enjoyable and I definitely think everyone should go through a corn maze of this caliber at least once in their life. The apple pickings were sparse but at least you get delicious floats and donuts! Note: they have gluten free goodies in the store but they are nut based (almond flour). My family and I made a trip to come here. It was a bit far of a drive about 2 hours but we wanted to check it out. There wasnt any pumpkin left in the field to pick and the apples were not event there on the trees. I would definitely have to say hand down to the cute little store - there was a bakery side and oh my gosh the donuts , the cookies and the Tik Tok famous drink was out of this world. So the 2 hour trip was definitely worth the drive. The service was okay the individuals behind the counter to order the Tik Tok drink had a bit of a attitude when I was asking about questions. Just stay patient. Other then that I would highly recommend coming here and trying a piece of all of there different donuts and cookies are soo soo good. We went the the Cider Mill today for Apple cider and donuts. It's the only Apple cider I like in the fall. It's so fresh and so delicious. And the apple cider donuts are so soft and fresh too. The pies are fantastic it's hard not to buy one of every flavor. This visit we bought the blueberry. The cider ice cream float with a donut was my daughter's favorite. I wish we got hot dogs while we were there m, they smelled so good. My 4 grandson said when we got home that this was the best day. He loved the chickens and running around. My only complaint is all the bees. As a with such a high fear of bees it was a test Of my will and the live of that cider that got me through the very long line and into that fabulous store. A good size (not too big) farm for apple picking. We came a little late I guess as most apples are already on the ground. There are several holes in the apples that are still on the trees so choose wisely. I liked that they don't charge ticket to roam around and pick apples/sunflower. Picking the apples are prices slightly more expensive than what you could have gotten from the store but apples are crispier. In terms of goodies in the store, I highly recommend the crumb cake. Maple bacon donut is ok and not worth the $4. I also got the apple cider thinking that's the normal price but after going to multiple cider mills, their one gallon of $13 is expensive. I love that this is a dog-friendly apple picking farm which does not charge an entrance fee. You pay for what you pick and I believe its $2.99/lb. The cons is the apple orchard is on the smaller side, which you can easily cover within 1 hour. They also have a sunflower field (free entrance) and a corn maze (paid entrance). They put a colored ribbon on the rows of tree to indicate that row is ripe for picking. We came in early October and was able to get delicious MAIA apples, which you can't get in grocery stores. I really enjoyed walking around this orchard. There were tons of apples even this late in the season and the prices are reasonable since there wasn't an entrance fee. It felt like the pumpkins were placed in after the fact and everything was a little beat-up. Keep in mind if you go on a nice weekend, it can be insanely busy. We waited nearly 30m to buy some of their doughnuts and cold cider from the shop and it feels like there weren't really many signs or instructions for those of us who has never been. Came here with family last weekend and it was such a wonderful time! We did some apple picking, got to look at the pumpkins and just walk around and explore the area. The little shop was super cute with a ton of fresh baked goods. Although the line is long it moves pretty fast. We tried all the different foods, the cider donuts, the hotdogs, and even the, social media famous ice cream float! All were delicious and the fresh cider was super yummy. I love that it was dog friendly and our dog had a blast being able to just walk around with everyone. If you want to go apple picking I would recommend going earlier in the season as there were not very many left, however, the few apples we were able to pick were delicious! High quality donuts, a delicious apple cider and an apple orchard that flanks the setting makes this a particularly wonderful spot to visit when they are open. It has the ability to transport you back in time. I purchased three donuts so I could sample them and ended up eating them all. They were the plain apple cider donut, an apple cider donut dusted with powdered sugar and a bacon maple glazed. Each one was super fresh and absolutely delicious. My favorite was the bacon maple glazed donut. It had a wonderful contrast of salty and sweet. You could really taste the bacon. Frankly it was so good I am still thinking about it. The apple cider here is very delicious and nothing like the store-bought kind. I suspect they use multiple varieties of apples, which gives you that sweet and tart blend with every sip. I came on a Friday in late September. There was no admission fee and you could walk through the apple orchard and pick the apples without a cover charge. The apples are weighed; you are charged for what's picked. I wouldn't recommend this place for serious apple picking though. There are better places for that in the area. But I certainly recommend it for their baked goods, donuts and apple cider. Also, they are a very short drive from Hacklebarney Park. Saw this farm recommended online and we're always up to try new places. Located in Chester, Hacklebarney farm really feels like an authentic little spot. Parking was easy. There's a few different lots. We came in and parked in the small lot right near everything. It's free admission. There's a shack to order hot dogs and I highly recommend. They are hot dogs soaked I apple cider with apple cider sauerkraut and beans. It was delicious. A hot dog with sauerkraut was $5. Reasonable to me. There's a cute shop with lots of goodies. Donuts, cider, pies, jams, candles, etc. I thought the shop wasn't too unreasonably priced either. There's an apple orchard, sunflower field, corn maze, ice cream stand, and pumpkin patch. We got 4 normal sized pumpkins and a tiny little one and it was $93 which I thought was insane. Even the people around us were all shocked and rethinking their pumpkins too. This cute little shop had a table full of freshly baked pies. The ladies working greeted us warmly and offered us some free samples of some delicious dips. We went to Hacklebarney Cider Mills after a hike, and the place was buzzing, there were chickens and really cute golden retrievers that welcomed us to the farm. It was a gloomy cold-ish fall afternoon so we were looking forward to the refreshments. Our friends recommended apple cider donuts from the place, so we got that. They were very delicious, fresh and not overly sweet, which we really appreciated. I asked for my coffee options, and the lady at the coffee station recommended apple cider coffee, I was hesitant but I surprisingly enjoyed it. Such an adorable lil cider mill. I was hiking nearby at Hacklebarney State Park and decided to stop here after (it's right around the corner). A cup of cider was the perfect post-hike treat. They serve it hot and cold, and on an abnormally hot fall day a cold cider was perfectly refreshing. I often buy cider at the supermarket, and this is by far the best cider that I've tasted. It's so fresh and literally tastes like it was just pressed. A small cup of cider will run you $3. In addition to cider there are lots of other cider themed treats for sale. There is a sweets kiosk where you can grab cider donut ice cream sandwiches and cider ice cream floats. There is also a hot dog stand with items like apple cider dogs, apple cider sauerkraut and cider baked beans. The line was long so I didn't check it out, but there is also a farm store that sales baked goods to take home. Next time if it's less crowded I'd love to try some cider donuts. The main area with food stands felt a little bit crowded, but if you want some space there is an expansive field lined with apple trees. There is a also a large corn maze if you are into that sort of thing. Not for me. Overall this is a nice stop for some fall fun and treats, and you can't go wrong with a cup of the fresh pressed cider. read more

Whenever I am in the Chester area in the Fall, I have a handful of spots that I must hit up and Hacklebarney Farms Cider Mill is always on the list. I try to hit up the Cider Mill around lunchtime because I can't get enough of their cider hot dogs with sauerkraut and their cider baked beans. They definitely do not skimp on the sauerkraut and that is much appreciated. Same goes for the baked beans, you get A LOT of baked beans, and I usually can't finish the whole cup. On days that I don't feast on these delicacies I will indulge in an apple cider ice cream float. Oh man, is that some good stuff too. Their cider is top notch as well, I always get a good batch whenever I go. Unfortunately, I am not a huge fan of their apple cider donuts, I don't think they are anything that special. You can get a much better donut at other farms in the area. As pointed out by many reviewers, during the weekend, the lines can get pretty long. If the line into the store is short, make sure you hop on it because it can change in a second. The store is small, so the line doesn't move that quickly. Also there can be a hefty line to get the hot dogs and baked beans. I never really see a crazy line to get the cider ice cream floats or the donut ice cream sandwiches. This is a no frills fall activity. They have a nice lawn where you can sit with the family to feast. You can pick pumpkins and apples and go through a corn maze. I've only picked pumpkins with the family, and we had fun doing so. They also have a cute little fall display where you can take a nice little family picture by. This was a little spot on a farm that specialized in homemade baked goods. Besides the baked goods, there was a lot of other delicacies such as pickles, seasonings, cheeses, etc. There was also a stand outside of the store too. I had a Cider Hot Dog with Beans ($3.50) and a half dozen donuts ($5.50). The hot dog just tasted a regular hot dog to me. I did not taste the cider aspect to it. Below are the donuts I had and my thoughts on each. All of the donuts were light and very fresh. Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin - This was probably my favorite one tried. The cinnamon sugar combined with the pumpkin really made this pleasurable. Plain Pumpkin - This was alright with nothing on top of the donut, good pumpkin flavor. We were going to hike close by at the Hacklebarney park but it was at capacity so we came here to kill some time before we could enter. The crowd had attracted our attention when we initially drove past. It was a busy farm with a huge space outdoors to eat or just relax, and also its dog friendly (we had brought our dog for the hike). I was glad that we visited, as we all enjoyed the visit. They had a great Corn Maze which turned out to be extremely challenging. Took us a while to figure out how to get out. And we weren't the only ones. We kept running into groups over and over again. It was actually free when we visited, but I'm not sure if they charge before Halloween. I do think its worth a small fee since it was quite fun. We also got a few treats. A great place to stop after a hike at Hacklebarney State Park or just driving around. Pies were out of this world, the staff were very friendly, and the fresh donuts made the place smell amazing! Lots of nice "country store" type goodies, and they have a little ice cream window where you can get cider floats and other treats. read more
