Dreams of fluffy bunnies & yellow flowers: Call Larry, whom we'd just consulted regarding other minor repairs. The rain stopped that day, so Larry zipped over same day while we were at work, climbed up on top of our roof and determined that not only is our roof in impeccable shape, but that the leak was a very simple fix: change out the vent stacks on top to be "high wind" tolerant. Sigh. Dark chocolates, & sparkling alpine lakes: All told, we've had Larry power wash our outside stairs & reseal them, replace a strip of wood outside of a window, & replace those vent covers on the roof. Throughout the process, Larry appeared quite knowledgeable & offered fair prices. Furthermore, he dissuaded us from other repairs after investigating and finding them unwarranted. May your dreams be filled with bunnies and flowers and chocolates and beautiful lakes.

Green sequoia caused a disaster with my backyard. Sad part is that we had great experiences with…read morethem before and chose them because of that. If you are doing an outside project, don't pick green sequoia as this seems to be a trend (see Jonathan's review from July 2019). They kept demo'ing after finding an issue, making it worse, and then they left us hanging for a month until they were finally removed from the job. Overall, Green Sequoia did more harm than good on this. Not sure new management is working out. Full story: Green Sequoia previously did our bathroom and did a great job. Jessie and Victoria also did our closet. Love those two. We saw an opportunity to improve our backyard living space by removing unnecessary planters and retaining walls. We had two quotes and went with Green Sequoia, the more expensive one, because of the previous relationship. They didn't tell us that they didn't have exterior expertise and the person on the job wasn't a normal part of the crew but instead a subcontractor. When construction started, we knew there was a question if a retaining wall was supporting or redundant. As soon as the project started, removing a small part of that wall would have made it quickly clear it was supportive as the wall behind ended 8 inches from the top. That's when they should have stopped. They didn't. They dropped the whole wall and then only contacted me after. This caused increased cost and a safety risk for both me and my neighbor. The same occurred in another part of the property. Oversight of the subcontractor was clearly poor. Construction was halted a week after starting in early June because of these errors. Afterwards, Green Sequoia sat on it for a month without getting me change orders or a clear plan to fix it despite nearly daily questions and pings from me. I gave them an ultimatum on July 6th to have a plan by end of week or I would remove them from the job and seek a refund. Four days later they were off the job. No refund yet despite 5 follow up notes from me - but complaint filed with state license board. This project will cost me $20k more, with less improvements made, because of what it will take to repair their damages. The project was supposed to be 3 weeks. Currently it's looking like 3 months because I've had to remove Green Sequoia from the job and get a new contractor. Issues come up with old properties. When starting our plan I fully expected that there may be some small unexpected cost. My issue with Green Sequoia was the lack of oversight, the recklessness that caused increased damage, and the abandonment of the project. Two stars because through this disaster Kirk was still responsive. While I don't agree with their lack of ownership about their actions, I appreciate that communication lines stayed open and that he visited to do some bracing upon my request.

They did a horrible job- left rotting wood on the exterior, added new siding that is splitting and uneven. Fairly certain we still have several leaks- thank goodness it hasn't rained much for the sake of our house. I look at the mess they made every day and am horrified. He was extremely responsive with me, email / text / phone calls were all returned in an appropriate time. Not sure who "Ray" is and I didn't have any interactions with him, but seems from the other reviews that he is the other co-owner. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to work with Crown Ridge Roofing and Mr Julian Corona in particular. His company is a true standout from the usual crowd of contractors I have dealt with, and will be my first and only call for future roofing projects. If only they were general contractors and could take care of all the other trades too, then I would really be set!

For example, the installation of the ventilation hood required a custom connection to accommodate a professional grade wall hood in a condominium ducting arrangement. WORKING RELATIONSHIP Julian was responsive, informative, collaborative and accommodating working for a client who is a detail-oriented, perfectionist like myself. He went the extra mile in many aspects, like painting and re-painting, fine-tuning caulking and paint lines around cabinets and custom finishing the undersides of the kitchen peninsula countertop. Julian also respects timeliness. He was at the job site when he said they would be and would always advise when he was running late. This also extended to his team and sub-contractors; there were no no-shows or lengthy period when no work was performed. It is also telling that Julian has long working relationships with his team and sub-contractors. They all expressed respect for him as a person, boss, and partner. A good team leads to successful projects like mine. PROPOSAL & BUDGET The project proposal was competitive among a total of 3 bids. It was clearly itemized in detail and hence, there were no surprises. WHAT'S NEXT I look forward to my next remodeling project with Julian. Franklin and his team did beautiful tile work for us, very professional tile installation and careful matching of the grout color in both bathrooms. They regrouted and caulked areas that needed it, leaving our bathrooms looking so much better. Drywall work was cleanly done and texturing matched our original finish flawlessly. Dust control and cleanup of work areas was careful and considerate. Quality work done for a fair price, easy to schedule, with close supervision of work by Franklin. Highly recommended.

FJ Construction offered us the best value, on the fastest schedule, and they did spectacular work. FJ Construction never inflated the scope of work, charged us excess fees, or tasked more people than a job needed. Keep in mind, every project runs into problems when plans meet reality. With FJ, there was always a solution -- along with a patient explanation, and a clear-cut breakdown of the costs. In the end, we were in-budget, on-schedule, and we could not be happier with the results. Not only that, but Franklin was always helpful: we got tips on where to buy grout, and how to do smaller jobs for ourselves. --- Detailed breakdown of work We had quite a list of improvements we wanted to make: - continuation of existing fence to fully enclose the yard - installation of a new door between two parts of the house that were connected by an extra-thick wall - removal of 2 security doors and replacement of 2 existing exterior-facing doors - moving an interior wall (which we opted not to do) Franklin quickly impressed us early on to earn the job. As first-time homebuyers, it was refreshing to speak with a contractor who would (and could) educate us and explain things -- such as pointing out stud patterns in the ceiling that likely suggested a wall was load-bearing. Other contractors would just wave their hands and give outrageous estimates with no explanation of their process. FJ, by comparison, showed an incredible attention to detail, always took measurements and explained what they would do, and patiently outlined every work item and expense before they did it. FJ Construction started work almost immediately. At every step, Franklin would call me over and double-check the work, explaining any tradeoffs that came up in the process. When the fencing didn't line up perfectly during early measurements, he explained why and offered us solutions. When the hallways on either side of a wall didn't line up, Franklin explained our options -- and helped us to frame our off-center door so that it would still look good. When our new exterior doors had thresholds that were too shallow, Franklin retrofitted the old thresholds by cutting and affixing them to the new ones. When we wanted our fence gate moved, Franklin explained to us the liability we might face if it opened the wrong way and tripped a delivery person. Throughout, FJ continually impressed us with thoughtful consideration, thorough explanations, and creative problem-solving. They never left out any details: they cleaned up after themselves, they finished and painted everything so that it matched perfectly, they followed up on their estimates and timelines constantly to keep us informed. I cannot recommend FJ Construction strongly enough. Give them a chance! You won't regret it.
