I would never come back again! The service is absolutely horrible! Not only was communication horrendous because they spoke barely any English, they had seriously attitude! We asked for the side dishes and the lady wouldn't bring them out until we order, but even 10 minutes after we ordered, they still weren't out! There were 8 of us and we wanted to try different things so we ordered 3 bbq dishes first and a couple of other non bbq entrees. They only gave us 1 set of side dishes, and when we asked them, she said it's because we only ordered 3 bbq between the 8 of us, totally ignoring the fact that we plan to order more later. I think I've wasted enough time on this place writing this review. read more

The price is wrong at this place! We ordered bibimbop and bulgogi tonight and were shocked at how small the portion of the bulgogi was. It was over 50% onions and some tasty beef pieces. But it was not what I expected for a Korean bbq. The meat was served in a light sauce, like a gravy. I'm sure this place has good food, but you can't charge $29 for an entree and have customers still leave hungry. Ugh. read more

Hae Woon Dae wins for best tasting galbi but most expensive galbi, too - I hate that it's so dang pricey: $22.95 for one order of galbi! Their bulgogi & daeji bulgogi are more expensive compared to other places, too ($18.95!). We had about 20 people last Friday, and majority of the party was eating Korean food for the first time. It's interesting that almost the entire right side of the restaurant was all non-Korean customers. I guess b/c this section gives first-timers a more authentic experience: sitting on the floor (with pillows available for comfort) where the tables are low to the ground. Plus no shoes allowed either - leave them on the centralized shoe rack ... so ladies, maybe keep your expensive pair of heels at home to avoid paranoia that someone else may walk home with your shoes. Another note - even though there's a vent system above each BBQ grill, there is still smoke everywhere and your clothes will reek like galbi even after you leave this place. Forgetting price, the galbi really was delicious here. Bulgogi & daeji bulgogi were pretty good, too. Banchan selection (side dishes) just average. But in this economy, money does matter - so if getting the best value is more your thing, you might want to go somewhere like Cho-Won Buffet instead. Lunch prices though are very fair here - most selections are $6.95. Came last week - Galbi Jim was ok, the Bi Bim Bap was great. Lunch comes with 6 banchan. read more

Great little Korean bbq joint. Extensive menu of meats / marinades to choose from, as well as a big assortment of bi bim bap (noodle bowls). One word of advice, though: stay away from the appetizers, no matter how many times the server yells "shrimp pancake" at you. If you've never done this before, it's pretty easy. Order your choice of meat. They bring the coal to your table and set up the grill. Multiple bowls of pickled veggies arrive for you to nibble on. Then the server comes and throws your meat on the grill for you and cooks it until it's done. Quite easy. The service is adequate. You may need to be a little more adept at getting your server's attention. Decor is sparse. I'm not really convinced the A/C works, either in the dining room or the beer cooler. But the food is excellent and it's well worth the trek for the experience. read more

This was our third time experiencing Korean BBQ. The people here are extremely friendly and happy and excited to teach newbies the correct methods for a delicious experience. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang. That was some GOOD grub. Expensive, but wow did it blow the other Korean BBQ places I've been right out of the water. Our group ordered 4 dishes, a plate of fried rice, pancakes, and three orders of dumplings along with a delicious lemon rice liquor which came out to $22 a person. Considering how much food we had to consume, that was a steal. I loved that everything was cooked right there in front of us with our server being patient explaining the menu to us. We wound up with salmon, two types of beef, and shrimp for our main dishes... that flavor each dish had was incredible. Salty to sweet to hot and fresh... yeah, I'd say we all left home happy and 10 pounds heavier. I think the best part, though, were the fun Korean music videos playing on the screen above us. Toilet puking rainbows and singing fish? Now that's what I'm talking about. read more

What a way to ring in the New Year. It was New Years Eve and I was looking for something hearty to eat before a night of drunkenness and debauchery (just kidding). I was also not feeling too hot due to a headache I was struggling through all day. Key to small ailments? Korean soups. We stopped by several restaurants who were closed before finding Hae Woon Dae still open. The restaurant was pretty empty except for two groups of about 8, and occasionally a small group walking in, dressed the way we were (like bums) pre-New Year's Eve festivities. I ordered a kimchi jigae, the ultimate Korean comfort soup, filled with pieces of beef, kimchi, and an assortment of veggies. I don't know if it was because I had suddenly gotten super hungry or what, but I devoured it. My friend commented that the food tasted a little "artificial", as in there seemed to be additional added artificial flavorings to make it taste better. I wouldn't have known any better. While we were finishing up our meal, it smelled like there was a sewage problem, which stunk up the entire restaurant. Yikes. We got out of there soon as we could to loiter outside instead. read more

Went here for lunch today, they give you a decent amount of short rib for the LA Galbi lunch special but the dinner prices are a bit much. On the website it says the korean dinner portion is 15.95, however it was 22.95 on the menu. Don't rely on the menu they have posted online for all the items. That being said the ribs were pretty good but the banchan was average. They had a good soup that went with the meal. I would possibly go back to try some of the soon dubu, they also had super cheap lunch specials if you weren't going for korean beef. read more

I was excited to get back to Hae Woon Dae because it was the first Korean BBQ I tried and after trying new ones, I was excited to see if it lived up to what I had experienced around town. Hae Woon Dae is more traditional in the sense its low key in ambiance aka, it doesn't really have any. It's very unassuming from the front and funny enough I took pictures inside similar to my visit from 5 years ago and they looked the same! While we were in there it was pretty quiet and I think two other groups were in there. They were playing K-pop on the TV. Customer service was great. We were greeted right away and the food came out pretty quick. And by food I mean the banchan which is by far my favorite part of Korean food. We were given Kimchi (3 Stars), potato salad (3 Stars), radish (4 stars), fermented seaweed (4 stars), bean sprouts ( 3 stars), and some other greens which were the best out of all of them. We also were given rice and a bowl of greens along with soybean paste and sesame seed oil mixed with salt and pepper. Out of three of us two ordered the BBQ , Bul Gogi and Pork Bacon. There is not all you can eat option here folks so order wisely. The Bul Gogi was delicious and it was a nice portion size to share. The pork I believe was half frozen so it didn't really have the best flavor as it cooked. Some onions were added with it but it was just okay and a smaller portion. My third friend ordered the Bibimbap which he enjoyed and our server even came over and helped him stir it up, which was a bit funny. The grill is a charcoal grill and no fancy updraft system. The best part of Hae Woon Dae is that is is open late night, so if you are out an about and want some late night Korean food, you have this option on Buford Highway. Overall I enjoyed getting back here and would recommend it if in the area. read more

This place was decent but I have had better Korean BBQ. You barely get any meat for the high prices. Also they use green lettuce instead of red lettuce. The red lettuce it softer and better tasting while the green lettuce is a little tougher and not that great. The highlight of the meal was the kimchi. It is the best kimchi I have ever had! Overall, this is an okay place to at least try once. read more

YUMMMMY....I could eat Asian cuisine everyday and be a happy girl. This place is the best and most authentic I can find. Haven't had a bad meal here yet and I am a huge fan of Kimchi and theirs is so good. They even bring you extras of whatever you run out of and more lettuce. I can't get out of the place without spending at least $80 bucks but its worth it to me! read more

Hae Woon Dae has always been one of the best Korean BBQ experiences on Buford Highway. The woman who owns it is super sweet, and always makes sure to help out with new (white lol) customers that aren't experienced in how to "do" Korean BBQ. The food quality is always 10/10, and I highly recommend the spicy cold noodles as an appetizer to share before the meats come out. It's delicious, made from scratch, and so much better than the spicy cold noodles at any other Korean restaurant I've been to. read more

They had 1 employee working only. We didn't get our food until an hour and 50 minutes after being sat down. There was another woman who did no work the entire 3 hours we were here. THEY LEFT THE RAW MEAT OUT on a table next to us. There was a bug in the food. This place was a disaster, don't waste your time. read more

Good place. It's sorta hidden but it's open late! Cha is the greatest server- and she is the highlight to the meal !! So funny, accommodating and sweet! She's 5 Stars for sure! The food is good but not great for the price. It's pricey. The beef, chicken and pork at good. The sides are good but nothing is awesome or amazing (except the few sides like Kim chi, squid/radish etc). Still 3 Stars. Check it out! read more

The place was deserted for lunch on a Tuesday- my colleague who is Korean had to try and find the hostess multiple times to get our service started. Maybe we came in too early...despite being during their posted opening hours. I ordered Galbi Jim (if I remember the name correctly)- It was a sweet stew with lots of very tender short rib pieces. You must eat this dish with lots of rice, because the stew is cloyingly sweet. Banchan were average, nothing exciting. At around $10/dish for lunch, it's an affordable option/alternative to Don Quixote next door. read more

Okay it's 12:00 AM and you're craving Korean BBQ -- all hope is NOT lost! This is the situation that occurred for my family and I after helping them move all day. We were finally done with the hard work and we were starving and we looked at the time and everything was about to close. Rest assured, Yelp was to our rescue! We found this place on Yelp and we drove 45 minutes for it. We were a little skeptical at first, since we walked in at like 1:00 AM and it was late night, but this place made us feel like home. Our server was super nice and welcoming. She gave us really great recommendations and the food tasted amazing. She cooked it with love. We were looking at all the posters on the wall and they've received many awards over the years so this place has been on Buford Highway for at least 20 years. I would definitely come here again! My favorite meat that she cooked would probably be the beef bulgogi. read more

We went here on a Wednesday night with a small party of 4. We were treated well and received excellent service. We had people arriving 30 minutes late and the servers kept filling our tea glasses without us asking. The BBQ is over charcoal which makes for a different flavor. Our table had a mix of BBQ, bean soup, and Korean pancake. The BBQ was very tasty, though not the best I've experienced on Buford Hwy. Showed up 1AM with a bad cold and in desperate need for some hot and spicy food to clear out those sinuses. Was taken good care of by the staff with great food and felt better immediately. And the best part was I didn't have my credit cards and they allowed me to use paypal. Very nice of them. Definitely recommend, for the food and for the service. read more

This was an excellent Korean barbeque experience, my favorite thus far. I came with a large group (10 or so) and had a great time. The service was very good, with conversations about the food, preparation, and answering our questions while they prepared it. We ordered a few different types of meat--bulgogi, beef, pork--and some seafood pancakes for appetizers (I'm generally not a seafood fan but these were awesome). We also ordered two types of soup, the spicier of which was better (of course). (I forget their names; sorry.) This was a very representative example of Korean barbeque and a fine one at that; this would be a place I'll take friends for an evening out whether they're familiar with Korean barbeque or not. read more

This place has the best Korean bbq I have ever tried! It has a cult following and it's well deserved! Everything I've ever tried has blown my mind!!! The bulgogi is spectacular and the spicy cucumber that is served as a side...has stolen my heart!!! The only reason I took a star away is bc there was only one person doing everything (hosting/serving/cooking) on a Saturday night and the service was not great. But with that said...the food is so good that I can oversee this! Get some extra help bc there is no reason this placed shouldn't be packed all the time! read more

We had an incredible experience! We went in around 3pm and granted, we were the only ones there, but the food and service were above and beyond fantastic. Cha was our server, and she was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. We ordered a pork plate and a beef plate, which came in plentiful portions. The sides (ponchon) came all complementary, and were refilled constantly. The flavors were all on point. I will say that it is certainly more expensive than usual, and the establishment doesn't seem like much, but they definitely delivered on food and service. Super good! 10/10! I have been coming here since 1999 or 2000. One of the things I noticed is that there are a lot of what I think of as Koreans eating there. Having eaten all over the country, I learned/was taught, that the more people of a particular ethnicity eat at a restaurant the more it is likely to be AUTHENTIC. Staff is always warm and engaging. I would say I have eaten over 50 meals here, and never have I had anything less than stellar. They wood fired BBQ is what I would make for myself if I was a world class chef. Price is not cheap nor are the ingredients. When I leave, I always wonder where the time has gone. Though you are served quickly, it takes a while to enjoy the food and the company. I would not recommend going there by yourself because it is just a place that you want to share again and again. read more

To be honest, I don't know where to go for Korean BBQ when it's Chamblee/Doraville. Duluth still touts more offerings like Breakers, 678, Iron Age, Honey Pig, the list goes on. So when my husband's cousin was in town visiting, we wanted to take her to get Korean BBQ without having to drive all the way to Duluth - granted, it's not THAT far, but it's still a trek. Someone in our group suggested Hae Woon Dae - which I've heard before but never been. This place was empty on a Saturday night, which generally isn't a good sign. The next thing was when we ordered galbi (short rib), it wasn't the typical galbi with the bone in it. We had to request them to bring us the pieces that had been attached to bone. The banchan here is ok - it wasn't wow but ok and not the worst I've ever had. I find it really hard to want to come back here despite an ok food experience. The serve was ok, but we were one of the few groups there. read more

I was here with my wife and we ordered one pan cake, a tofu soup, and a fried rice. Waited 30 mins still no food on the table, not even side dishes. Pan cake came out not even crispy (all soft and watery). Tofu soup tasted like instant noodle and not even hot. I waited for so long I didnt want the fry rice anymore. Service was terrible terrible terrible terrible. I will never ever fcking coming back to this place ever. read more

This used to be one of my favorites, but I haven't been in a few years. Really disappointed with how it turned out. There were a few bright spots. The pork belly was good: sliced thin so you could get it crispy or have it chewy. The banchan was fine: fresh lettuce, well-fermented kimchi, and spicy Korean finger peppers. And the service was friendly, if a little tired. But I should have left when they said they were out of all short ribs and chicken. How can a kbbq place not have short ribs!?!? I can live without marinated chicken, but bulgogi and pork was a poor substitute for short ribs. They said they were really busy last night, so they were out. We were there around 6pm on a Saturday for dinner, with only two other parties the whole time we were there. Not looking good, and for the price, I think there are too many better options. read more

It's been quite a while since we stumbled in to this place, but I thought it was worth adding my comment and the pictures we took. It was the first time I had Korean food and I've been a fan ever since. I wish we had a good Korean BBQ on the south side of Atlanta. The restaurant could use some sprucing up (and maybe they have since we were there), but it was clean and the food and service were great. When I'm in the area again, I will look for Hae Woon Dae for a great meal. read more

Trust me and this review, because I'm Korean, so I know what I'm talking about. First off, this place is tucked away in a little strip mall. Very difficult to find if you're just cruising down Buford Highway and not making a concerted effort to find it. It's not visible from Buford Highway, and you really have to use the address numbers to get there. That's strike #1. Admittedly, the food is good and the side dishes are tasty. Probably one of the better tasting Korean BBQ restaurants i've found in Atlanta. But it is WAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced. $22.50 for Marinated Short ribs? And they don't even give you that much. We had 3 people splitting 2 BBQ dishes coming to around 45 bucks and we were still pretty hungry after all was said and done. Ridiculous. And we're skinny people eating! Also, the service is horrible. The waitresses NEVER check up on you and I wouldn't call this place very friendly. They give you some mild fake friendliness but I'm overall very disappointed with the atmosphere and service. I know white people go ape-s*** over korean BBQ because it tastes so good, and they damn well should! But you gotta take it from a korean guy. I went to Korea this winter and ate much better barbeque for 1/4 of the price every day. I know this is America but Atlanta has better, cheaper places you can go to. Don't go here. Oh, and pie-faced fatty korean waitress lady, screw you. read more

Since I came here only 2 nights after trying out Honey Pig (2 stars - overpriced, poor service, burnt the meat), I couldn't help but compare the two so I ordered the BBQ beef ribs under the grilled section. It's the first item on the menu ($23ish) and I was quite pleased with how it turned out, though the portion could still be a bit bigger for that price. I think this can actually be grilled at your table but my other 3 friends ordered stew/noodle things so they cooked my ribs in the back. I preferred it this way anyhow because I didn't have to worry about under or over-cooking the meat. Docking one star for being suuuuper smokey inside. I'm sure my clothes and hair would smell like a smoker for days if I didn't shower...but who would do that?! read more

This restaurant soft-opened in March 2024 and officially opened in April 2024 in the old Breakers Korean barbecue space near the defunct Gwinnett Place Mall, and I-85 at Pleasant Hill Rd (exit 104). It's spacious, but can fill up quick. We arrived at noon on a Saturday and there were still plenty of open tables. However, by the time we left, shortly after 1pm, it was packed with people looking for tables. Someone jumped on our table as we were getting up to leave. This is not a sit-down restaurant. Instead, you order at one of two touchscreen kiosks at the entrance and then wait for your number to be called to pick up your food. Everything is self-serve, from condiments to hot broth. You also bus your own table. Here's what three of us got: B3. Heo [sic] Naengmyeon ($16.99) - spicy sweet potato starch noodles with raw fish (should be spelled "hoe") C3-B1. Naengmyeon and Yuk Jeon ($20.99) - cold sweet potato starch noodles and thinly sliced beef pancake C1-B1. During a recent wedding weekend, my friends and I found ourselves at Hae Woon Dae not just once, but three nights in a row, and for good reason. This spot, without a doubt, serves the best Korean BBQ in Atlanta. We were immediately blown away by the food, particularly the kimchi and the Jeyuk Bokkeum (spicy pork). The kimchi had just the right balance of tang and spice, while the pork was tender, flavorful, and packed with just the right amount of heat. Each dish felt authentic and perfectly prepared, capturing the essence of traditional Korean BBQ. What really made our experience stand out, though, was the outstanding service provided by JC. Not only did JC ensure we were well taken care of each night, but she also brought a great sense of humor to the table, keeping the energy light and fun. She made sure our group never ran out of beer or soju, maintaining a steady supply that kept the celebrations going. By the last night, JC surprised us all with Hae Woon Dae t-shirts to change out of our wedding tuxedos, a thoughtful gesture that added a special touch to our weekend. I honestly don't think the korean bbq is a good deal since you can go to Duluth to get platefuls of meat for how much you pay here. But the fact that their late hours and closer proximity to ITP has convinced me. It's very standard, I don't think anything here is amazing stellar or whatever, but if you want some Korean food at 3am, this is a good spot. It's pretty homey. I guess it is next to Shooter alley but that hasn't affected my experience here. I've had some meat dishes here. I like the Galbi Jjim here. It is like steamed galbi. The marinade/ sauce is a little on the sweet side but hits the spot. They seem pretty liberal about their side dishes which is nice, and it's generally a quiet spot at late hours. read more
