    Hanging roast pigs and ducks.
    Daniel B.

Ever been to Hong Kong BBQ (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hong-kong-bbq-chamblee) inside the Atlanta Chinatown food court? Well, Big Wong BBQ is pretty much the Hong Kong Supermarket equivalent. It's a shame Big Wong flies under the radar. At the time of posting this review, it only has three Yelp reviews. On its best days, I think Big Wong BBQ is better than Hong Kong BBQ. Big Wong is located in the Hong Kong Supermarket food court next to Pho Xe Lua. Hong Kong Supermarket is a large Asian supermarket located on Jimmy Carter Blvd. near I-85. It's in a large shopping plaza with several mostly Vietnamese-owned restaurants and businesses. Once inside the supermarket's food court, it's hard to miss the roasted ducks, chickens, and pig parts hanging underneath the heat lamps in the stall's glass display case. I like this place because the menu is simple, the food is affordable and delicious, and the cooks are good at what they do. The main menu consists of roast pig, roast pork, "soy sauce" chicken, and roast duck. Other offerings include fried rice, pepper steak, beef chow fun, and duck noodle soup. This can be considered authentic Chinese (Cantonese) fast food. It's like something you'd find on the street in Hong Kong. Chinese comfort food. The main difference between "roast pig" and "roast pork" is the roast pig comes with crispy skin and lots of fat. The roast pig is what some refer to as "three layer pig." The three layers being skin, fat, and meat. Roast pork refers to the slices of BBQ pork with a reddish, slightly crispy exterior. Both the "pig" and "pork" are boneless. This is not the case with the chicken and duck, which are chopped and served with the bones. You can purchase pig/pork at $8.99 per pound, a whole soy sauce chicken for $8.00 ($4.50 for a half), and a whole duck for $17.99 ($9.50 half). There are also an assortment of rice dishes available. Depending on how many different types of meat you order, these rice dishes can range anywhere from about $6 to $8 each and come with vegetables and broth. Everything is served in disposable Styrofoam containers with plastic silverware. Bring cash because this place is cash only. Also, no tap water. Bottled water and sodas are a buck each. You can also get tea and soy bean milk (different from soy milk). That's my biggest gripe with the Hong Kong Supermarket food court. Unlike other food courts (e.g. Chinatown, Super H Mart), Hong Kong's food court has no complimentary water dispensers. Boo. It's hard to go wrong with anything on the menu, so order away. All of the meats are great. They are fresh and savory. Go on the weekends (Saturday is the best) for the freshest meat. Most of the meats are cut and prepared on the spot immediately after you order. If I had to choose, my personal favorites are the roast duck and roast pork. However, the pig is tasty too and the chicken is tender. The rice plates are filling. The portion sizes are generous unlike Hong Kong BBQ. Each rice plate comes in a Styrofoam to-go container packed with rice, slices of meat, green veggies, pickled mustard greens, and a sweet, brown dipping sauce. Even the plain white rice is good. Don't overlook the beef chow fun. In fact, I highly recommend it. The beef chow fun is made fresh to order. It consists of long, flat, ho fun noodles (wide rice noodles) stir-fried with pieces of beef, bean sprouts, onions, scallions, and green veggies. This is a "dry" noodle dish that is extremely savory and a bit oily. A staple of Cantonese cuisine. Big Wong's version isn't as intense nor salty as many other versions around town and that can be a good thing. Do yourself a favor and order a beef chow fun. Service is quick and efficient. There's rarely ever a line/wait for this business, which is both a good and bad thing. Good for us, bad for them.

The Roast Duck and Roast Pork Belly combo meal! $13! Delicious!

This is great classic Hong Kong style BBQ restaurant! The roast duck was so flavorful and juicy. The roast pork belly skin was crispy like a cracker and the meat was so succulent! Everything was amazing! I couldn't decide which one to get so I got the combination combo plate, which was only $13 and it also came with a large serving of rice and vegetables, on top of that, they also give you a bowl of chicken soup with each order! Excellent value and even better food!

Stopped by here at around 10am for an early lunch on a weekend, it wasnt busy at all. The food was still really fresh. I ordered the Roasted Pork over rice to share with my girlfriend and we were happy with the overall quality and taste of the food. It came with vegetables, rice, and the roasted pork with some sauce over it. The owner was very friendly. He speaks many different languages. I talked to him in Mandarin, my girlfriend talked to him in viet. He then busted out some Japanese, Korean, and said he speaks Thai too. Very impressive.

Big Wong BBQ is a bundle of Crispiness. I have to admit that I underestimate Big Wong BBQ. I was first introduced to Big Wong by stalking a coworker's lunch for several days & finally decided to dive in to get fat. Being that Big Wong is located right inside of Hong Kong Supermarket - it's so convenient for me to pick up lunch for work & not to mention it's the closest BBQ around. My lunch to-go box includes: Roast duck and Roast Pig (Crispy Skin) with rice, green veggies, pickled mustard greens, complimentary broth, and dipping sauce. I will occasionally alternate between getting the Roasted Duck or Roast Pig & sometimes I'll get half & half...and yes, they let you get half & half. ($7.95) The lunch boxes range from $6 to $8 depending on what you get. You have to spend over $15 to use your Credit card or else you have to pay cash. Overall, Big Wong BBQ is a cheap place to pick up lunch if you're in the area. The meat are fresh & very tasty. I've been very happy with the service & speed when I pick up my lunch. This is definitely my to-go place when I don't have time to pack lunch for work.

Crispy Chinese barbecue pork -- the loud snap of the slow-cooked skin when I take a bite and the aroma of the fat entering my nostrils sort of turns me on. AMIRIGHT? So if you want your soul to ascend to pork sexy Nirvana, journey over to the Hong Kong Supermarket off of Jimmy Carter and find Big Wong's to the right of the entrance in the food court. Things that you should know: ***** I. FOOD & DRINK -Menu is in Chinese, Vietnamese and English, so that's good. -Types of BBQ include duck, pork, and quail. -Whole roast pigs available upon request. (The owner will show you an example on his Galaxy Note. Lol.) -All dishes - which include veggies, rice, and meat of choice -- fall under $15. (Will verify, next time I return.) -Coke and Yeo products available. II. SERVICE -It only takes a few minutes for them to cut up all of the meat. -They're friendly. -Did I mention that they will show you pictures of BBQ pigs upon request? III. ATMOSPHERE/ DÉCOR -You're in a pretty clean food court, so no worries. -This is the type of eatery a brotha brings a honey to see if she's wifey material. Not a first date, kind-of-place. IV. PRICES -Still have to verify the prices, but for sure they don't break. Not to mention, an entrée with rice and veggies can easily serve two or more. #valuecity V. OVERALL Big Wong's serves excellent BBQ duck and pork. I haven't tried the quail, yet, but I'm sure it rocks.

I often visit Hong Kong Supermarket because to me, it has the most variety of Asian ingredients than H Mart & Assi. I even saw Hmong and Cambodian style noodles there! The food court is definitely overlooked because it's tucked in the right side on the corner with no welcoming access. The main reason I knew about the food court or even paid attention to it was because my husband's side had a roasted pig catered to an event. Since we lived the closest, we went to pick up the roasted pig. It was a whole pig that is roasted, yes, with the head and everything lol. The meat tasted delicious! I came back several times to take do a carryout cause I shop at Hong Kong Supermarket often and rather eat at home. Food is cheap for rice, meat, & veggies for around $7. The last time I came, I bought half of a roasted duck for $12.99 & a pound of roasted pork for $10.99. To me, the meats are flavorful and I don't need the dipping sauce. It's so good. Big Wong BBQ is definitely an underrated roasted duck & pork bbq joint.

3 star for the excellent customer service. Well this is my second time I'm coming here and I was hoping the roasted pork & duck taste better then last time. But sad my daughter spit out the roasted pork and the last time I order the whole roasted pig was smelly taste. Guess I'm going back to Hoa Bing market they got the best taste of anything. Sorry this will be my last time I'm coming to this place even I live only 5 minutes away from it. :(

First time I went they ran out of food? Tried it again yesterday and the food was very good. They older lady at the counter was very sweet and pleasant. Order the BBQ pork over rice.Came with sauce and a small soup. Not the best BBQ sliced pork in Atl but it was good.Wanted to order a 1/2 a duck to take home and I didn't have enough cash and there credit card processing machine wasn't working so the nice lady let me slide the 2.50 owned. Mom and Pop operation which I love and respect so 4 stars.

Yummy yummy!! This place located in the food court of the Hong Kong market. Best BBQ I've ever had in a long time.

The menu is hit or miss. The duck is pretty good, but the bbq pork is boring and soggy. The service is friendly enough.

About a third of the tables had patrons, and I was able to be seated right away. They have a combination of booths and tables with the back room able to seat some larger parties. I ordered the Country Steak & Sausage Gravy 2 Egg Platter. It came with a cat head biscuit and the country fried steak was small and about the same diameter as the biscuit (see photo). But since it came with a muffin, and I added a side of 2 sausage patties, the meal was still filling. All items seemed to be good quality, properly cooked, and had decent flavors. The square blueberry "muffin" was very moist and a great flavor. They use big tumblers for soft drinks. The only item that wasn't great was the lemon slices in my drink: the rind was spotty and tinged with brown and the fruit texture and color showed too much age. My server was very inattentive and spent too much time watching the big screen TV. It took her a long time to take my order, she provided no refills, did not check in during my meal for any needs (the jelly caddy had two empty sections and my table had no strawberry jelly), it took a long time to get my check, and a long time to process payment.

When we arrived, I realized the location used to be the old Hong Kong Supermarket -- only longtime locals would probably remember that. The layout inside was pretty interesting. There was a Te'amos milk tea shop in the middle, Lao Szechuan on the right, and the hot pot & BBQ restaurant on the left. The staff greeted us warmly and quickly helped us get seated. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was that they offered freshly made milk teas and fruit teas instead of bottled drinks. The drinks were decent and refreshing, especially for balancing out the richness of the meal. Each person gets their own mini hot pot, which I really liked because everyone could customize their own soup base and ingredients. We chose a variety of broths including mushroom, spicy mala, tomato, and herbal soup. Using the iPad ordering system, we basically ordered one of everything from both the hot pot and BBQ menus. The food came out surprisingly fast, and they even used robots to deliver dishes to the table, which was smooth and efficient. For hot pot, my personal favorites were the fatty beef slices, lamb, beef tripe, black tripe, tofu skin rolls, squid flowers, enoki mushrooms, corn, lotus root slices, kelp knots, fish balls, and beef tendon balls. Everything tasted great with the broth and my favorite sesame dipping sauce. On the BBQ side, the standout items for me were the cumin lamb, beef tongue, chicken cartilage, short ribs, and squid. We weren't exactly BBQ experts, so some meats weren't cooked perfectly, but the flavor was still really enjoyable -- and the best part was that you could keep ordering as much as you wanted. Honestly, for around $40 per person, it felt like a very good value. My parents both thought it was worth the price. We left full and satisfied, and the service was always attentive whenever we needed something. Overall, it was a really enjoyable Mother's Day meal, and I'd definitely come back again with friends next time.
