This stall and owner has been the same since I was a child. It's so sad because she does not care that, I want to support her small business. Every time I come here she is so rude to me. I know she has a whole wall full of food options, but I could never order something new because she's always rushing me. Therefore, I'm such a sad. This is probably my last time I come here. She also makes to go kimbap, & she makes different varieties of them. She gets angry at me every single time when I'm reading the labels. Almost as if I'm wasting her time. I can buy five boxes of these because they're great for work lunches. At first, I thought it was a cultural thing. Maybe that's just the way she grew up. Dae Jang Gum is a Korean restaurant located inside the Doraville Super H Mart food court. It's not a full-fledged Korean restaurant by any means, but for what it is (a food court stall), it's pretty good. Dae Jang Gum has about 30 different items on its menu, featuring an assortment of Korean cuisine. This includes Korean BBQ (bulgogi, galbi), soups and stews (guk/tang, jjigae), noodles (e.g. japchae - sweet potato noodles and guksu - wheat flour noodles), dumplings, and Korean mixed rice (bibimbap). Best of all, most items only cost $10 or less. Several are only $7-8 each. A good value for sure. Most of the entrees, particularly the soups and stews, come with a few banchan (Korean side dishes). Since this is a small food stall, don't expect 6+ selections of banchan. You'll probably only get a few and they'll most likely consist of kimchi, pickled bean sprouts, and chopped broccoli with spicy red sauce. So far, my favorite item off the menu is #3, the "Box Combo" ($9.99). The box combo comes with your choice of meat (short ribs, beef, chicken, salmon, etc.) and a variety of sides including white rice, potato salad, fried dumplings with sauce, orange slices, a small bowl of soup, and kimchi. The sides aren't anything special, but are tasty enough, particularly the kimchi and dumplings. At this price point, I'm not complaining. One item that is overlooked on the menu here is #17, the "Mini Water Dumplings." For $6.99, you can get 20 pieces. This dish comes with a dipping sauce and is great for sharing between 2-4 people. Service is good. The food doesn't come out lightning quick because everything is prepared to order. The food is brought to the counter when it's ready and is served to you on a tray. Wooden chopsticks and Styrofoam cups for free water are disposable. The rest of the items (plates, bowls, spoons) are not disposable and should be returned the counter after you finish your meal. This is my go-to place for Mandu Guk ($7.99) - this is the only dish I've tried here other than the O jing-uh bokkum which was just ok. I've come here many times and I always order my dish to go which means they only give you one small portion of banchan (either kimchi or spicy radish -- both very good). However if you eat in the food court (vs. order to go), you get about 4 different banchan -- I actually asked them if I could get the other banchan to go but they told me no, I get just the kimchi :( Mandu Guk is great comfort food, and they give you about 4 decent size mandu which taste homemade. The broth is very flavorful too. If you like rice cake, you can get the "Duk Mandu Guk" but I prefer getting just the mandu version. The food is cooked-to-order so be ready to wait - I usu. pass the time by looking at the Korean pastries next door at Tous Les Jours :) Overall 4 stars for the mandu guk, the convenience, and the price. I usually visit the food court first when I'm starving. By this time, I'm dizzy and delirious and just want food. I can always trust that the #13 tofu soup will be consistently good. It is served with rice and a tiny portion of banchan. During my starvation daze, I usually order or share another dish. #17 is another favorite. It doesn't fill me up completely by itself so having more food is always planned. If on the rare chance, they run out of #17 then try the #22 (less but bigger dumplings). I ask for it be steamed instead of fried as advertised. There's a water dispenser. You'll have to ask for a cup. read more

I'm almost tempted to give 5 stars to a food court restaurant, but, man, am I glad we discovered this place, since our last food court experience off of H Mart was just 'meh'. Over the years, even before our visits off the cruise in March to 3 different places in South Korea, we've grown to love Korean cuisine, not the least because we usually get quite a bit more veggies in our diet compared to fast food or other Asian cuisines. This time around we were well rewarded as well trying Dae Jang Gum (which I believe translates into "The long sigh" or "The long 'hmmm'"). My wife ordered the shrimp fried rice while I went with a minced beef thing, the name of which I forgot; both came with a soup (Asian borscht? :-D) two banchans and the main dish - both were nicely done. Now I was a little surprised that my beef thing was accompanied by veggies that were cold-served, but I was OK with it once I was over the 'surprise'. You might want to check before you order, since you can't always tell from the photos displayed. Ditto, spiciness - since Koreans like their heat, many dishes have an element of it, but it's not often the burn-your-esophagus type of heat, at least not by my standard. Located inside H mart. It's the best "fast food" Korean food around I think.... I think it is safe to say North Atlanta is saturated with Korean places. I think most are pretty decent but only a couple I think are "super stars" I think Dae Jang Gum is on up there because they are fast, not too expensive and they give you a lot of food. I've been here probably 6 or 7 times at least for lunch. I always get the same.... a bibimbap. Each time the service was excellent. The food was very good and the price was just right. Since I know practically zero about Korean cuisine, this review is geared to people who are on the same footing as me. We noticed that the Dae Jang Gum stall was the busiest in the food court. After studying the menu, we chose the following for our quick lunch: -- #20, Bibimbap. Rice mixed with vegetables, beef crumbles, and topped with a fried egg. My meal came with a little bowl of mild broth with what appeared to cubes of potato. There was also kimchi and what may have been marinated cucumber or radish. (I know I sound like a dummy, but nonetheless.... it was good! And filling!) -- #26 Bibummandu in spicy sauce: In essence, this was a salad topped with delicious fried dumplings. A nice dish for lunch. As other posters mentioned, you have to wait a bit while your meal is prepared. If you're not sure what to order, go by the description posted under each dish. It was the only concession I hadn't eaten at yet plus bibimbap always hits the spot. The bimbibap doesn't have much ingredients in (I'm used to a lot of different types of ingredients in it) but not bad for $8.99. It tasted pretty good. Even tho the egg was crispy on the outside and edges, it was still running in the inside. The pot was still hot after my boyfriend and I finished it. The side dishes that came with was kimchi, bean spouts, and macaroni mash potato salad. The kimchi wasn't that fresh so it was a bit ehh. It also came with the bibimbap spicy sauce. The Korean blood sausage had a little bit different taste than what I'm used to eating at the ones I usually eat from Korean restaurants in Florida (I'm from Florida) doesn't taste like this. I didn't really enjoy them that much but I still ate them. They were $7.99. This place opens at 9am and is the only restaurant in this h mart opens this early besides the bakery. (DDUK) MANDOO GOOK (Rice Cake and Dumpling Soup) -- This was the first dish I ever had here. It was winter, it was the food court in Super H-Mart, .. so I was not expecting much. However, I was very surprised. Their broth was just right; not quite sure how to explain it, but I enjoyed it very much. I had another friend with me at the time (who is also a foodie), and she was impressed just the same! BUDAE JIGAE (Spicy Meat Soup) -- This must have been cooked with a beef broth. They had chunks of pork, huge pieces of tofu, napa cabbage, hot dogs, etc. Their soup was very tasty (that beef/meat taste) and had a nice kick (spicy)! The vegetables were cooked well, such that they were not hard! Everyone (four of us) killed our portions of this soup. KALBI (soy-marinated short ribs) -- We ordered 2 orders of kalbi. The ribs were slightly on the sweet side, but still they were very nice. The meat was tender to eat. The onions were nice and caramelized. Located within the Super H-Mart food court, this place delivers some cheap eats that can satisfy even decently large appetites. I ordered their Mandu-Guk (dumpling soup with rice cakes)- Surprisingly tasty with 4 large dumplings filled with egg, shredded pork, vermicelli, and vegetables- the soup is a milky color, and tastes like soup you'd find with seoulungang (beef soup). The marinated ground beef added a nice touch of contrast to the softer textures of the dumpling and rice cakes. ($6.95) (4) The wifey ordered the Bibimbap- ingredients were fresh, flavors were spot on- the only complaint is the the bottom of the rice got a bit overburnt...but I actually like that! I forgot the price of this dish, but it wasn't much more than the ManduGuk if at all. (4) We also ordered some fried rice to go- meh, this wasn't so great. Some small shrimp, and (basically frozen) vegetables from the frozen food section stirred into the mix. But didn't want to bother the cashier because they seemed very irritated that I was ordering while they were eating their lunch. So service ... NG. Food for making it so salty .... NG. Going to give then at least two stars for this visit because they are usually different. Maybe their management changed or they don't care about making the effort of providing quality food and service. My man, Michael, stopped by Dae Jang Gum last night for some dinner. He said it was good, I thought I'd give it a shot. When lunch time rolled around, I headed out; excited to try something new. After a 15 minute drive to the Super H, and a few minutes walking around, checking out the store, I found the food stand. I scoped out the menu and settled on the Box Combo with chicken ($9). I gave my order, paid the money, and waited for my food. Waited. And waited. And waited. I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I waited 30 minutes for my food. I typically would have asked for my money back and searched for something else. But, I was only moderately hungry and excited to try something new. And as I stood there contemplating a refund, I kept thinking "any minute now, my food will be ready- have patience". Tray after tray was served. Several take out orders. One dude who ordered his food WAY after I did, got his before me. Just as my annoyance level was about to pique, a stack of Styrofoam containers neatly wrapped in a plastic bag was presented to me. I had hoped to find a nice shady spot and enjoy my lunch, however, by this point, I was out for to lunch for nearly 45 minutes and had a 15 to 20 minute drive back to the office to look forward to. Not to mention a meeting in 30 minutes. I made it back to my desk, settled in with my email, and opened each of the boxes (please excuse my ignorance as to the specifics of Korean cuisine): steamed white rice, container of seaweed soup, kimchi, some sort of coleslaw with thinly sliced sausage, a foil wrapped package of some sort of breaded and fried starchy veggie, and (the main course) fiery red sauteed chicken. I broke apart the chopsticks and dug in, before I had to run off to a meeting. The chicken was delicious! Tender, cooked just right in a thin yet flavorful sauce. The chicken was garnished with grilled onions and red pepper flakes. Spicy, but nothing too hot. Perhaps a bit oily, but still good. The kimchi was great. Nice robust flavor and still kind of crunchy in places. The mystery (to me) deep fried starch was good... I wish I knew what it was. Seaweed soup was warm and tasty. The coleslaw- I could have done without. Nothing special. Just a shredded salad with some sliced hotdogs drowned in mayo. Will I go back? YES please expect at least 15 minutes for cooking time (this ain't no fast food) NO it does not come with tons of side dishes since it's at a food court YES the pries are DIRT cheap so you will be pleasantly surprised YES the food quality is like that of any good restaurant nearby Ohjinger Bokkeum (spicy squid with vegetables) - this is actually well made with plenty of meat and just the right flavor (not too hot and not too sweet either; the squid was not over cooked and still tender) Sullungtang (mild rice and noodle soup with beef broth) - it taste just as good as the famous Gameeok in NYC (added some salt & scallions). I absolutely love Dae Jang Gum. It's a tiny "no frills" Korean restaurant located in the Super H Mart food court. I usually try and get something new each time I visit. Each order comes with three banchan sides, usually kimchi, a creamy salad of some sort, and a marinated pickled veg.. And a small bowl of light veg broth. I think my favorite dish so far is bokkeum with squid, a very spicy stir fried combo of squid, veggies, and gochujang (Korean red pepper paste), served with rice. Another fave of mine is the Dolsot Bibimbap which is steamed rice served in a blazing hot stone bowl which creates a delightful crunch as it sizzles away. Quality, food standard, customer service and cleanliness have dropped severely at Dae Jang Gum. I mean, who thought putting a table in front of the order counter for customers to place their dirty dishes was a good idea? It may not have been so bad if they were diligent in clearing them, but the day I was there - the dirty dishes were piled up and it wasn't even a busy time of day. It was too unappetizing and inconvenient. The Sundubu Jjigae with seafood was miserable - not only was there near non-existent seafood (only a few squid tendrils and a handful of tiny overcooked clams), the tofu wasn't silky and the soup was lukewarm. They no longer allow you to break the egg separately, and now only offer pre-mix in the soup so by the time you dig into it, it's already overcooked and rubbery. Banchan was the stingiest I have experienced in any Korean food court or restaurant, and not very good at that. Last visit. read more

The Korean place is not at all as advertised. Their food does not resemble the picture on the menu at all. I ordered a #7 meal yesterday at lunch. When it came out of the kitchen, there is no visible beef or noodle at all, as shown in the picture. The total portion size, including the rice, noodle & beef is about a instant cup noodle, plus one egg, and it costed me $7.99. When I asked for one more rice ( a tiny cup size), they changed me additional $1. I was still hungry after the meal.
