Updated from Hagen response to this: NO apology or acknowledgement of arguments & questioning. STILL NO addressing why the 2 alerts came on after Hagen worked on my car. Progressive isn't to blame, they didn't work on my car. Hagen DID. And ONLY then did the alerts pop on. Yet Hagen will not comment or even address the alerts or why they had their hands in my car which resulted in this. Nice deflection. John was the communication/service problem. Paul & Barnett (?) gave me great service & communication. John needs a vacation. ***** my auto mechanic said it's easy to pass "tests" when car is still and not driven (told by 2 people at Hagen that my car passed all tests after they worked on it.) Also said he couldn't believe that Hagen's isn't working with me since they were last to touch my car & those 2 lights ONLY came on within blocks of leaving their shop. And he said from a professional & ethical business standpoint that not telling customer that had been in accident that brakes, steering & stability alerts are on since they weren't showing on dashboard. John flat out said, "No." It's nice to be back to actual customer service. As a former small business owner, I have more patience & understanding for owner-operated. That's why as soon as I got home from picking up my car, I originally gave a 5-star shining review. (I even overlooked that the shop did 'nt ask if I wanted to match the headlight replacement (at my own cost not on claim). Once on the road leaving Hagen's- I had 2 dashboard alert lights come on that have NEVER come on in my entire ownership of the car. Also, the reason for the car fix was from an accident. I had to wait 3.5 months for my appmnt. there & STILL. those 2 alerts NEVER came on. 1) Caution Triangle Light w/! and 2) VSA light. (vehicle stability assistance) I already knew of the TPMS light on when I dropped off my car. That was ONLY Alert light on. I brought my car back. Progressive denied as part of the claim. Both Hagens & Rep keep repeating that the alert codes were noted & documented & everyone knew about them. EXCEPT no one told me. Hagens is so focused on the fact that they knew about the alert codes from the beginning. That doesn't matter to me. My points are: - These 2 NEW dashboard alerts ONLY came on after I left Hagen Auto shop. So it's logical for me to assume that something happened at the shop for these new lights to come on. Now, I have to pay a different shop to fix. They were so focused on showing me the report that noted the alert codes-which they showed me and 1 was the sensor for brakes. The other alert was for steering stability, tire management, and the Brakes. My husband who works at a dealership was as incredulous as I, that an auto shop doesn't let customer know about alerts on: brakes, steering, etc. Especially a car that's been in an accident. And John was very clear when I asked, that they will not tell customers about alerts because, "cars have so many alerts." I specifically asked him when I saw the brakes alert, do you tell customers about brake alarms & he said "No, it's not part of the accident." John also passively called me a liar saying that the VSA light wasn't on when he got in car so he didn't know that this particular alert actually turns on. I told them it comes on within 1-2 minutes of driving- yet no one drove it. Calling me into question was the path he took. Within 2-3 blocks leaving the shop again today, VSA light popped on as it did EVERY TIME I drove it since Hagen-along w/the triangle light. This is irresponsible business & can get a driver hurt. The fact that they were trying to gaslight me w/focusing on the diagnostic codes that were documented that they are ignoring that these 2 alarm lights ONLY popped on RIGHT AFTER leaving the shop. Hagen's was last to touch my car & those 2 lights came on. Oh, and that they apparently don't care about customer safety. read more

I was incredibly disappointed with Hagen's auto body. From the beginning, the front desk lady was rude, patronizing, and would interrupt me as I tried to answer her questions. This has been an issue for years, looking at other reviews, and yet, no intervention has occurred. I gave my phone number as a contact, and they still called a family member about my car being done. Very shoddy efforts to be efficient, friendly, and useful. Being that we are in a airborne pandemic, nobody wore masks and they did not abide by social distancing in their incredibly small office. I told them that I'd leave face masks in my car for employees to wear when inside my vehicle, the owner (older gentleman - I've seen in other reviews they've denied that he is old, but indeed, it appears to be the owner), assured me they'd disinfect my car upon delivery. When the guy pulled up in my car when it was fixed, he was not wearing a mask or gloves. Completely dangerous and irresponsible. The kicker was when the owner asked about my appearance upon pickup, saying "did you get burned?" He was promptly and rightfully chewed out by my partner for his inappropriate comments and behavior. Although my car looks nice, I was left stressing over potential COVID exposure, and reeling from the intrusive, rude, and insensitive customer service. I took my new 2018 Toyota 4Runner to Hagen's after I was rear-ended. I would recommend them to anyone who is in need of a repair or is looking for any auto body work on their vehicle. The paperwork was easy and stress-free and they assessed my truck within 10 minutes. After scheduling a formal appointment for repair, they proved to have the quickest turnaround time that I've ever experience! I brought it in Monday morning and it was done by Tuesday afternoon...and it looks even better than it did before the repair! On top of that, everyone was so nice and welcoming. I brought my 2013 Dodge Charger to Hagens for some dent repair that I had acquired throughout the years. I had quite a few things that needed to be fixed and buffed. I was given an estimate less than other body shops or dealerships I had visited. I was given a call a few days later they were ready to have me bring in the car; and they were done with the vehicle by the end of that day. They did forget to write down a few places I needed repaired, so I brought the car back later that week and within 15 minutes, the spots were looking much better, and this was done free of charge. I was a loyal customer at Hagen's for 30+ years, probably 15 or so visits over that period of time. The last time I brought my car in was after a taxi smashed into my parked car. Hagen did there usual excellent job on the body work, but my cars rear end was swinging wildly when I drove. I brought it back in to Hagen's, and they assured me that they had done a thorough wheel alignment and sent me on my way. The car was still swaying wildly, so I brought the car into BMW to see if they could diagnose the problem. It turns out that Hagen's had to have LIED to me about the wheel alignment, because the arm on the rear axel was BROKEN, making it impossible to align without observing as much. The BMW folks were amazed that I hadn't had a breakdown and/or serious accident, and said that what Hagen did verged on the criminal. I paid $1000 out of pocket to have the car fixed because I was confused about dealing with the insurance company on this issue. I told Paul Hagen that I was very upset and that he should at least reimburse me for the $1000 or he would lose a lifelong, devoted customer. No response, apology...NOTHING! I am now using Hoepner's Auto Body and I never knew what I was missing for all those years. DAILY updates on my car, friendly service, the works. I am very disappointed with Paul Hagen that he would lie to someone after years and years of giving Hagen's my business. We had some damage to our car from a hit and run that unfortunately occurred during the winter when all the body shops are scheduling 6-8 weeks out. Hagen's was able to get us in after about 4 weeks and they completed the work in a few days. This shop is a preferred vendor through our auto insurance so the process was very easy. Everyone was friendly and the location is very convenient in S. Mpls. We have always used Caliber in the past, but I was very happy with our experience with Hagen's. read more

I needed a quick estimate on the damage i made to my car. I was in the area so dropped by the place about 20 minutes before the close time. I was greeted with the unwelcomed "we do not do estimates after 5 pm" even though it seemed everyone was still at work and was just not wiling to help. I don't live in the area so it would have taken me at least 30 minutes to drive back and forth if i followed their advice and came back next day. I do not understand how you can run a business with this attitude. I do not know if they do a great job or not and i guess i will never find out because they will not be fixing my car. I have to admit: I'm predisposed towards liking things within walking distance of me. They have my business by default. If they screw up well enough, maybe I'll consider going to some place further away. The walking distance is especially useful for automotive things, as it saves me the hassle of having to have a friend pick me up and drop me off. That said, I have to appreciate Hagen's beyond the mere convenience factor. They seemed to understand a crucial distinction up front. Auto body work can be insanely expensive. I'm usually in the "why bother?" camp. If it still runs, why would I waste a bunch of money making sure it's pretty? That said, that little scratch/dent I introduced to my car was starting to rust. Rust spreads. This issue becomes a little more than cosmetic in my book. So I took it into Hagen's. The owner (I believe) took a look at it and immediately asks: "Is this an insurance thing?" No. "Okay, so you want the $30 fix, not the $400 one." Yes! Exactly. Most body shops I have dealt with before aren't this upfront about the two paths you can go down: the restore it to pristine condition path, or the "good enough" path. I was also amazed that the "good enough" path seemed like a damn bargain to me. Hell, if I'd brought it in a year ago before the rust set in it may have been even cheaper. My SUV recently met a dead branch that came down during a storm. The roof and part of the side was badly dented - if I didn't get it fixed the MPCA would be after me for having a mosquito farm on top of the vehicle. I checked reviews of body shops and decided to go with Hagen's. True to past history Hagens came through and made sure the job was done right. The entire roof had to be replaced and every replacement roof they got from their vendor was already dented. Hagens stood their ground and finally got it fixed up right. Last night I did some reverse-maintenance on my driver's side car door. I pulled in too close to the gas pump, opened my door to see how close and decided to back up --- with the door open. My door got too cozy with the pilar and bent to the point that I couldn't close it. After looking for the closest place, Hagen's was just up the road and I brought it in today. The front desk people promptly asked me for details and we went to look at the car. He gave me the straight answer and didn't make up anything "Looks like its bent. Swing your car around and we'll see what we can do". This is the part of the story with a surprise twist. I pulled it in, the man who was helping grabbed a mechanic, they talked and then the other guy walked away. I thought "oh, dear - here comes the price." After a little more chat the mechanic came back, worked his magic and my door was fully functional. Price tag: "Tell your friends." This is the good service we need. This is the neighbor who takes care of another. If I ever decide to get my car comfy with another object - I'm taking it to these guys. They treat the customer right and they're honest. For this last repair, I received three different quotes, and Hagen's was the least expensive by at least $300. Incredible experience! Brought my car in after I got a deep scratch. They first gave me a free estimate and then scheduled me to come in in less than a week, which was extremely fast. They did all that I could've asked for without actually replacing the part of the car, making it so the scratch can only be seen on a certain angle. Hagen's has been speedy, helpful, and less expensive than other body shops. Paul Hagen has been willing to present options of different cost so I can choose what is right for me. I have a $1000 deductible and a fairly old car. For me, a car is transportation, not image, so I've often chosen "good enough." I've been there several times (unfortunately). I was rear-ended by someone without insurance. I needed my trunk to close again, and they fixed it ably for around half of what another garage estimated. Someone knocked my mirror off while the car was parked. Their insurance paid a certain amount in cash, and Paul gave me a range of options of how to repair it. Since I don't care about matching paint exactly on the whole car, I chose to repaint only that portion. Finally, they tell the truth even if it hurts. I asked them about some rust around the wheel wells, and they said, "There's no reliable way to sand off that rust. We would have to replace the entire quarter panel. That's $1200. Short of that, there's not much to do. I probably wouldn't do it on an old car." I've referred friends to Hagen's, and they've been happy. Give them a try! read more

I've been here a few times and historically they've been great. Years later I have come back disappointed - and it's even before they had a chance to do any work. Unfortunately, the front facing staff can really make or break an experience and in this case, send a customer looking to go anywhere else. When I called, I was told to come in any time between 11am-4pm for an estimate. When I came in at 12:45 pm I was told that the individuals who could do the estimate just sat down to eat. When I asked when they would be back, she said in a flippant and rude way, "I don't know, 10, 15, 20 minutes?" (As though it was an unreasonable question). Not helpful, particularly when its the middle of the work day and I had to get back to work. When I opened my phone to check my calendar to see if I could come back later, she said, "so are you going to wait?" in an impatient tone. When I told her I was checking to see if I could come back after work, she scoffed at me and indignantly said that she "wasn't being snotty" and then went back to her chair and mumbled something that sounded like she was pissed off under her breath. I stood there feeling self conscious and unwelcome. I really wanted to bring my business here, but being treated like that, realized that I could and should go somewhere else. Anywhere else. This is really sad, as like I said, I have brought several jobs this way in the course of years and the gentleman I had worked with was always so nice. She could have been nice or helpful in helping me figure out what times would work, but instead it was pulling teeth to get her to tell me when someone would be back. I even had to ask her whether there was paperwork I should fill out in the meantime - and she again in a rude tone said "I put it out in front of you." It really felt like I wasn't welcome there from the minute I came in. Not sure what was going on, but I can never go there or recommend this place again being treated this way. read more

It states no appointment necessary. Woman on the phone told me I could come tomorrow, not today. When I called back to read her the website, she claimed that there was no one there to provide an estimate. She also asked me why I was not going thru my insurance company, I told her that the one who caused the accident was uninsured. My car was parked outside my house when it was involved in a hit and run, point of impact at my back driver's side tire. Suspension damage, colossal cosmetic work, and who knows what else. My insurance named Hagen's as a compatible body shop, so it was off to Hagen's I was towed. The damage to my car needed to exceed 60% of its total worth to be scrapped - let's say $6000. Hagen's estimated the damage at $5500 and did the repairs. After minutes of driving it was obvious the repairs on my car were not complete. While it was working just fine before the hit and run, it now had clunking noises from the back, whirring noises from the front wheel bearing, the trunk would no longer open - this car was clearly not fixed. So I bring it back to Hagen's. At this point in my journey the saying, "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..." becomes particularly relevant. I come back to get my car the second time and am told I need to change my supposedly worn tires, which will fix the noises coming from the suspension and wheel bearing. As for the trunk, I'm told "someone has been in there fiddling with the wires." I literally have no idea what this is supposed to mean. Weren't you, Hagen's, the ones in there fiddling these past weeks? I took my car in to a body shop in Mankato and the unfinished repairs are already estimated at over $1000. This is purely cosmetic work. Tl;dr- Hagen's Auto did the exact amount of work on my car to maximize their profit, but not enough to actually complete it or scrap it. I brought my car in here about a month ago because I had basically torn off my front bumper in a snow bank. The woman at the desk kindly greeted me, and another man (perhaps the owner) said they would order the parts immediately. I brought my car in on a Tuesday, and it was ready on a Thursday. Very reasonable, I think. They communicated directly with my insurance company when they needed to order additional parts. They also called the car rental agency for me, and I was able to pick the rental car up and drop it off at Hagen's. This may not be the cheapest place to go (my insurance company covered most of it), but the service was superb. If I hit any more snowbanks, I will definitely be back. read more

This shop was on the list my insurance work with after collision accidents so that's how I found them. I don't know much about pricing as I've never had an accident before so can't say if rates are good BUT I can say they were very nice and informed me of everything. The owner even called just to make contact and review what he found and told me the exact time work would be completed like not even a day over. Also when I picked my car up the owner walked over showed me the work and went over everything again and didn't hesitate to answer questions about my tires that weren't even part of the work he did. So that was really nice and Rhonda also called me and was also so sweet and would email to follow up and left voicemails when she called but I really liked how she followed up with email because with work it's hard to talk on phone but I can email very easily so that's was great! They have very good communication at this shop and I felt like valued customer and you can tell they are transparent. Also my car smelled good when I got it back lol I definitely recommend this place for work if you need it. Not being from Minnesota this is the first place I've gotten service from and actually the people were nice people (not weird or passive aggressive) and I got great service from start to finish!!!
