I have been trying to find a place with Hagstrom since November. Unfortunately, I was paired with an agent named Roy who was dishonest with me for 2 months about the details of the apartment I was approved for. My move in date approached and I was told I would be able move in for sure on the 1st. My date came and passed by several days and I did not receive any response, call, or text from Roy. Nothing to inform me that I was not able to move in that day because he was dishonest and it was in fact not ready at all. I was now living out of my suitcases and had to return to work and start over from scratch in looking for a new place. I contacted hagstrom about this and they assigned me a new agent to assist me with looking for a place ASAP. I worked with Dominic in looking for places under a time restraint. Dominic took me on and showed me several potential places. When it came to viewing them on short notice, his team member Daniel took me on very last minute and showed me the place. Both Dominic and Daniel made it happen for me! I have not moved in yet but I have signed a lease and met with my roommates. I am so appreciative and thankful of Dominic for being so patient with me and looking under time restraints. ​This place is a scam or extremely incompetent! I submitted my deposit for a rental space, and the owner then decided to raise the deposit and the rent after this company accepted my deposit. When I requested a refund, I have yet to get confirmation; they refuse to pick up the phone or answer any emails. They still have my money! Month Update: They have a routine! After you request the refund 1) The agent( in this case, Daniel) will say he doesn't go to the office often. You'll need to email the company directly. 2) The company will milk the time it takes to respond to the email and say it is processing. (note if you do not follow up, they will not contact you) 3) they'll say they mailed the check (this is a lie). You HAVE to ask for certified mail. 4) They'll say they already sent out the check(if not verified) and will cancel that one and have to speak to upper management before they can resend the other one. 4) Once you do finally get a check, IT WILL BOUNCE!! 5) The next step is to say you must come to the office. This is a lie... Ask for another certified mail. read more

I worked with Inna, to apply for an apartment. I applied and sent my security deposit, but the apartment did not work out. Inna assured me that I would receive my security deposit, so I had nothing to worry about. It has been over two months and I have not received my security deposit, which equates to one months rent. I have consistently called and emailed the refunds department and am told that they are "checking on it", or "contacting upper management", but nothing is being done. This company only cares about making a sale and clearly sees their clients as disposable. My experience with Hagstrom has been taxing and extensive, to the point where I have to call and email them several times a week to even get a vague response. You absolutely can't trust this company. I got completely scammed by their distrustful agents and was left (literally) without a home after moving out of my old apartment. I toured an apartment of theirs for rent in Brooklyn, NY this past December. Per the agent's instructions, I had sent half of the security deposit to Hagstrom Management's Venmo account to reserve the unit. Another group eventually secured the unit, and I found another apartment elsewhere. As of this email, it is WELL over a month after sending the payment and I have not received any refund whatsoever. Every call I make to Hagstrom's main number is made to no avail. Whenever I contact the refunds department over email, I am given attitude rather than assurances that the refund will be issued. My next step will be to take the agency to small claims court. Avoid at all costs. Hands down the worst realtor experience I've had in NYC. read more

It's sad that I have to resort to social media to have my voice heard. I didn't want to write this review, but we've given them too many chances. I've worked with countless real estate companies, and I've never seen this type of irresponsibility and inefficiency. You hear about NY agents and know you're in for a struggle, but really, after 10 years of renting in NYC, I've never come across this issue. Getting anything done with this company is frustrating. If you want your deposit back (see low star reviews below), it is a process- agents direct you to an email (not a number), and say "it's not their department." My fiance has been trying to get his deposit back and have been promised certain dates, and they've failed... only to call the office and find out that staff is unable to help because it isn't their department. How irresponsible is this? His real estate agent was Daniel and the person I spoke to at the office was Lauren. He's been exchanging emails with Rebecca. A few more days, and I'll be reporting to BBB for taking a security deposit without a contract and approval, for failing to return the deposit and direct the customer to a place where they can talk with the right "department." I thought Hagstrom and Jadine P. did a phenomenal job helping us with our apartment process. While she represented the landlord, she acted professionally and in our best interest. We were difficult clients for a variety of reasons but she and her firm remained trustworthy, empathetic, and patient throughout the process. One part I was nervous on was getting our credit for the second month of rent. I am wary of brokers in New York taking deposits unjustly, but they provided me a check within two business days and I had no issues. The landlord also told me on the phone that Jadine was a very trustworthy broker and has never had any issues for years. Clearly, they have a positive reputation among landlords and tenants. On Street-easy, it also says she has done over 950 rentals, so Jadine / Hagstrom have vast experience. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Hagstrom. I thought they were responsive and well-run. I would recommend working with them if you are in the city! I wish I could give them higher than five stars. read more

However we did not get the apartment, it was rented out. this was December 31,2022. 2 months later we still have not received our money back. I was so disappointed in the application process. I applied a week ago to only be told everyday I was still missing documents DAY BY DAY. Each day I would get one response per day. Was supposed to move in the beginning of the month. Applied and put in money 2 weeks prior move-in date. Was led on for two more weeks after the supposed move-in date leaving all the roommates with nowhere to stay (several of us had to move everything into storage spaces and live out of suitcases for half the month). They'd always say they'd give us confirmation "tomorrow" and another.. and that was dragged out for weeks. They'd also lie about what the other roommates had agreed on paying when in fact everyone actually (lividly) refused. RIGHT before finally signing the lease they raised the rent, and we couldn't back out after submitting the big sum of money. She encouraged me to put a bid higher than the posted rent in, and assured me that if I was the highest bidder I would get the room. This I did, only for her to tell me later that the room wasn't available. They already had my deposit, so I tried to see some other places. But they charge you 1stmo, security and Brokers fee, to move in, which makes most of the other places they showed not worth it, especially when the locations are usually pretty mediocre. while I ended up finding another apartment, I nearly ended up on the street because of the money I gave them. To be able to bid on other places, I requested an email to get my deposit back from the refunds@hagstom.nyc email. A few days later, they got back to me saying the refund had been approved, and that it would be 7-10 days before they could mail me a check. But to where? I wouldn't have my address by then. very cool. fast forward a MONTH after that approval, and a few unanswered emails from me asking where it is, which is what a lot of the other reviewers seem to be facing. Luckily I got a tip that I should threaten to file consumer protection complaints with the NY state attorney general and the better business bureau. in the email where I said that, I cc'd every Hagstrom email I could find on their website. Within a day they were promising to return my money, and thanking me for bringing it to their attention... lol. The apartment I found is better than the ones they were showing me, cheaper, better located, and didn't come with a brokers fee. Do yourself a favor and just steer clear. I had the pleasure of working primarily with Meg, and I can not speak highly enough about her. She made the renting process so seamless, and she answered every single one of my questions no matter the time of day (and believe me I had many). I work really late hours and she worked around them with no problem. I moved to New York on really short notice and she made sure to match me with an apartment with my exact needs and location. I recommend her to the highest extent! Anyone looking for a room or apartment in NYC should reach out to her. I don't have much to say about the office though, Lauren was pretty unresponsive and I never really heard from her directly, and when I did it wasn't even a full sentence. Sarah and Alla were both incredibly responsive during the entire process -- from requesting a tour on StreetEasy to signing the lease. I just met my landlord and signed the lease and wanted to thank Lauren for being such great help in the process of renting. I wanted to move in earlier and then had family issues and was not able to get the apartment I originally applied for but Lauren was able to assist me to find a different place that I also like a lot and that is now my new home. The process here is fairly standard to all real estate companies the only difference is that Lauren actually answered my calls and texts in timely manner and was genuinely helpful. My first experience looking for a room and it happened to be with the amazing help of Lauren! She is very open, receptive. I had lost the room I originally desired because I did not quickly make a decision yet what it felt like a miracle moment, Lauren has kept me on top and quickly notified me that the room was available again and made sure I had first dibs. Lauren has always been considerate and even when I had made a call late at night for some questions, she was able to assist me without a problem and is so kind. I experienced a bad realtor deal with a company I won't name that had 3 stars unbeknownst to myself. I anxiously waited 2.5 weeks for them to lose out on 3 great renters due to greed. Essentially wasting time and shortchanging a percentage of our deposits. However I put the call out on social media and within 30 minutes a friend tipped me off to the most professional Lauren. She promptly and concisely allowed me to take a tour of the beautiful apartment I'm currently residing in now. I owe her everything. She outlined exactly what a proper realtor/broker could and could not do after going through the nightmare of figuring it out on my own during the transition of moving to Brooklyn. I'm updating my review because previously I met with an agent who was so nice...(if my issue does not get resolve I will edit this review and include the name of the agent that wrongfully stole a portion of my deposit) after several messages and no response. I found out from the landlord the agent frm Hagstrom management company took half of my deposit and told the landlord I agreed to pay half of the deposit. What the hell? I'd stay away from doing business with this management company at all cost. Non responsive to emails. Over a month and haven't received my security deposit and supposedly won't give it back in full because they had to find a replacement tenant? (Replacement tenant was my friend that I referred).
