Hai San Chinese Restaurant is located in a shopping plaza on West Colonial Drive in Ocoee, Florida. It is a rather nondescript and no-frills type place and definitely geared towards takeout. It was also pretty disorganized inside, but again, it is definitely geared towards takeout. Something else, I found humorous. I called my to-go order in, a gentleman answered i gave my order. He asked the customary "anything else?" I replied no and instead of giving me a time or thanking me or even saying goodbye, he just hung up. I actually stayed on the phone for a few seconds because I thought maybe he was just adding up my total or something, but no. Let me also add that when I was there, they were friendly. Hey, we all have our way. We ordered lo mein, curry chicken and egg rolls. Overall, it was pretty good, especially for the general Orlando area, where it is hard to find great or even good New York style Chinese takeout. My favorite Chinese food in the Orlando area! Moved from LA about a year and a half ago and originally I was struggling to find Chinese that was similar to what I enjoyed back home. Took some trial and error until I came across this place. This is the kind of spot that you KNOW is gonna be amazing due to the ambiance - kinda grungy (respectfully), photos of the food on an illuminated board, notes written on the wall on paper that has become yellowed with time. My favorite dishes here are the sesame beef, house pan fried noodles, and veggie egg foo young. Oh and the mushu pork is damn good too, especially their plum sauce. My one wish is that they made honey walnut shrimp! That's a favorite dish of mine which is apparently hard to find around Orlando. read more

I routinely pick up food for an elderly friend who depends on me to deliver safe and properly prepared meals and I expect basic respect and competence every time I walk in. About a week ago I picked up her regular order and it was hideous: three scrawny chicken wings and barely any pork in the rice. The woman at the counter was rude and dismissive and she touched money and credit cards and food with no separation and no hygiene. That was already a major problem. On Saturday, 8/7/2026 the situation became worse. While I was placing the order the young male employee at the counter abruptly stopped listening to me and started talking to another female customer. He did not complete my order, did not listen to what I said and, of course the order was wrong when it was presented to me later. When I corrected him about assisting one customer at a time and jumping to serve certain customers when they walk in and he snapped at me and claimed he could do both and that he knew what he was doing even though he clearly did not. His tone was snarky, disrespectful and completely inappropriate. I have grandchildren his age and they never display such behavior; I will not tolerate it from him. While I was there I saw, photographed and video-recorded multiple health violations. I witnessed live flying insects at the counter, on the cook line. I also saw employees touching money and credit cards and then touching food without washing their hands, using gloves, or maintaining separation. I documented these violations because they put customers at risk and can lead to serious illness and for some death. They also put your business at risk. This young man is not an asset and he is a liability. He selectively decides who he wants to be respectful to and whose order he wants to get right and that is unacceptable. He should not be allowed to work the counter until he is trained in respect, professionalism and basic food safety. The sanitation issues must be corrected immediately. Your restaurant has good food and a strong reputation and experiences like this will destroy it. I expect corrective action without delay. read more

Overall, decent experience at Hai San during the week. We ordered take out one night and went in for a pick up. The staff was busy and quick to retrieve our order. The cost was good for what we received. We ordered the general tso chicken combination and the bourbon chicken combination. The general tso was a little on the spicy side, which is how I like it, but the chicken itself was a little hard. The bourbon chicken was delicious and well seasoned. I don't know what it is, but there were like 5 cooks in there and we had to wait almost an hour for our mediocre Chinese food. There were people coming in and out, getting their food before us. I assume they're call ins, but there's nowhere that indicates that it's better to call in an order. How are you going to sell sweet and sour pork, without the sweet and sour sauce?? We ordered delivery from this place, so I can't comment on the services. The food portions are enormous, and the prices are very reasonable. I am impressed with the amount of food provided. Unfortunately, I seem to be allergic to the oil used. Every time I consume some of the food, I'd end up with stomach issues. I don't have this issue with other restaurants or the ingredients and seasonings so it alludes me to think it's the cooking oil which I am having a reaction to. Mixed veggies in spicy garlic Pan fried wontons in spicy sauce Hot & sour soup Pros - everything is yummy with leftover-sized portions. The veggies are super fresh and chunky, cooked well and not mushy. The soup is chock-full of tofu, mushrooms, bean sprouts, green onion, I dunno what else. And the flavor is perfect. The sauce on the fried wontons is very addicting. Wish I'd have gotten an extra side of it. Cons - I ordered to go but wasn't given plastic ware. Thankfully the hotel had some. Steamed rice that came with the veggies is super sweet, tastes like butter and sugar rice. Wish I'd have specified fried rice. I asked for spicy sauce on the veggies and was disappointed in the spice level. So if you like a kick, be sure to tell him. This place stayed busy the entire time I was there - both walk-in orders and phone (probably online too). The guy at the front was friendly and fast, and knew several repeat customers' orders without them having to ask. This as authentic as you can get (orders are communicated to the kitchen in Mandarin(?) ) and bonus, he also knows Spanish because was taking orders in Spanish as well. I absolutely love Asian food and this location doesn't disappoint. Not only is the food always fresh and absolutely delicious, but the servings are huge and reasonably priced. And the fact that its really close to my job is just an added bonus. My favorite things to order are their Beef Lo Mein, Boneless Spare Ribs and their Egg Rolls. A large order of the Lo Mein gives me 4-5 decent sized servings and the boneless spare ribs lunch combo gives me about 3 servings as well. The fact that I can spend less than $10 on food and be able to spread it out over a few days is nice when I'm not in the mood to cook. With the current COVID-19 pandemic the restaurant is doing carryout so you're not able to sit there and eat, but you can call in or walk in to place an order. The food here is delicious! We usually order early in the day but today I went in at 7 PM. There were only two people working and cooking and the food was at its best! I ordered beef with broccoli, Singapore noodles with no meat, the vegetarian soup, and the chefs special tofu. I always ask for their homemade mustard. It's very hot but also very tasty. I love to spread it on my noodles with a duck sauce or make a dip with the mustard and duck sauce for an egg roll.
