Everything was really good, but some standouts for me were that the pork and egg congee had so much egg which I love and the siu mai were so plump and filled with so much meat. Besides that I really loved the chee cheong fun with xo sauce and the fried shrimp balls. Maybe because we went on a Monday they didn't do the dim sum carts which I love. But then again, the restaurant isn't too big so I feel like they usually don't do the carts. But this is a way to ensure all the food you're getting is fresh though! Great experience, we got there just before the rush and everything was tasty and fresh. Probably some of the vest fried shrimp balls I have had in a good long while. The food was very good. The portions are pretty big so that's a plus. They had a 2 lobster special so we ordered that. Other dishes we got were beef chow fun, snow peas tips, chicken corn soup and 2 dim sum dishes. (Haw gow and beef churn fun) It's great you can order dim sum even at night! No host specifically, the wait staffs came up front to check the waiting list that they've left on the table that you had to fill in yourself. Their dim sum menu isn't very vast but had the usual more popular selections. Their beef congee wasn't a huge portion but it contain loads of beef. Didn't get to have any of the steamed bbq buns because the kids ate them. We didn't end up ordering much from the dim sum menu, we did ordered salt & pepper squid & snow pea stems because we liked it the last we were there. Ordered 4 orders of Siu Mai and 3 orders Eggplant stuffed shrimp paste. 4 pcs of Siu Mai is $6.95 each and 3 pcs Eggplant stuffed shrimp paste is $7.95. I would order these again based on price point and taste was not bad. The Eggplant Stuffed Shrimp Paste was ok. The shrimp paste was fried but the size of the eggplant was bigger than I expected. The sauce was the downhill. It was watered down and had no umami flavor or taste. It was bland for me. The shrimp paste was not as tender as I expected it and to me the frying part of it just was not for me. I will not order these again. Ming Bistro version is better especially the thicker sauce. It's small inside and hidden just left of the Asian supermarket. The servers were extremely friendly and responsive. Overall I feel like the food is above average. I will say I think most of the Dim Sum options are equal or better at YH seafood clubhouse. In particular the Salt and Pepper Squid is better at YH than here, however East Garden's egg tart is largely better. Ha Gow and Shu Mai are similar at both places as is the Gai Lan. Overall I'd have to give the edge to YH simply because it is better lighting and more open and because of the S&P squid. If you are closer to the colonial Ave area or if you need to go grocery shopping after Dim Sum East Garden will be fine. My wife seems to recall Ten Ten is better. Came in for a post-Thanksgiving dim sum fix. Arrived around 1pm for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon and luckily experienced no wait! I was craving shrimp rice noodle rolls from the dim sum menu but those weren't on the menu so I settled for other shrimp options: shrimp stuffed eggplant and shrimp wontons. The dimsum was good but I noticed there weren't many vegetable options unless you ordered from the regular menu. Dim sum plates range in size from M to XL and plates are priced between $5.95 (m) to $14.95 (xl). Dim sum can add up quickly if your eyes are as hungry as mine. The Beef Ho Fun was probably the fav of the table. The noodles and fried rice were generously sized to share as was the seafood congeee which was comfort food in a bowl. East Garden is located in Chinatown next door to Edson market which makes it the perfect spot to stop for a quick meal before shopping at Edson so you're not shopping & filling your cart on an empty stomach! We called ahead and they were able to accommodate a large party last minute. We had 2 servers throughout the visit who were both friendly and knew what was in each dish such as the kind of meat. Unfortunately many of their dim sum dishes, although they sound like they could be vegetarian (ex. Chive dumplings, taro dumplings), have meat in them. I ended up getting the green onion pancake ($6) and Chinese yam dish ($29). Both were flavorful, and the pancakes were nice and crispy. Portion sizes were generous. However, the yam was not cooked consistently and some pieces were still raw and tough to chew--overall not worth the price. My friend got the beef and glass noodles pot which she liked the flavors but noted a grittiness in the food. Overall sadly not the experience we were hoping for. read more
