Chinese food here is pretty authentic rated from good to very delicious. We usually come here when Asian grocery shopping nearby. We ordered 2 veggie options - tofu and snow tips. The greens were my favorite - seasoned well and perfectly cooked. They used a lot of oil but that's probably one of the reasons why it tasted so good especially with rice. The tofu dish was good too. The group also ordered 3 meat dishes. One of the feedback received was that they were a little too salty for their taste but still tasty. We went on a weekend late afternoon and it wasn't too busy. Delicious food for lunch here with my mom. It was nice and quiet on a Wednesday. We were seated and tended to quickly. The staff are friendly and the restaurant is clean with plenty of seating. We shared the general Tso which was saucy and not spicy at all. I loved the Cantonese sausage fried rice, delicious and plenty for leftovers. The spicy chicken was best, fatty pork sautéed on buns very good, eggplant a bit too sweet so I used the chicken chili sauce and it tasted better. Just finished a delicious dinner at Hunan Taste. We had the cumin lamb, walnut shrimp, Dan Dan noodles, Yangzhou rice, salt and pepper fish, scallion pancake and pumpkin cakes. Quick service, good quality ingredients and authentic taste. Flavors are definitely on the heavy side along with the oil content but keeping to the traditional Hunan cuisine style. The appetizers we tried were very good and not very spicy even for my mild palette. The 夫妻肥片 was tender and the 口水鸡 was refreshing. The smashed cucumbers was a great appetite opener. The pork belly bamboo shoots dish was custom made and not in the menu but very good stir fry dish. The cumin beef was juicy and went well with the steam buns. This place is about as authentic you can get. I work with a Chinese company and it is their little secret. The staff is very nice and speak English enough to get your food. They are very good if you need anything. The restaurant itself was on a strip mall and is decently appropriated for their deal. HuNan Taste is a relatively small restaurant located in a shopping center with a strong focus on Asian businesses. We walked in and found the restaurant empty with the exception of the staff. The menu was filled with some interesting items. I ended up going with the pork stir-fry with peppers after asking the server for a recommendation and she recommended this. The staff was friendly, though honestly, they could have been a bit more attentive. Nothing terrible, but it took a bit for them to come over to take our orders. The food came out in an extremely quick amount of time and I tore into my meal. Overall, my meal was definitely enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this particular restaurant if you are looking for a good Asian meal. I will give this establishment five stars. read more

When paying I tap my card and the language is in Chinese and I asked her why is it in Chinese because I can't read that. She forced me to tip her and I always tip, but forcing me to do so.... This is one of my parents' favorite Chinese restaurants in Orlando. It is tucked inside an old strip of restaurants and stores in old Chinatown. The area looks kind of dingy, but the inside of the restaurant is nice. There is plenty of parking in the lot. And it's also convenient that a meetfresh opened up next door, which is perfect for a dessert after your meal. The food is solid. It tasted authentic, and our dishes were full of flavor. I've been here several times with my parents, and the taste remains consistent. One of my favorite dishes is their mei cai kou rou (steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables), but we didn't order it this time around. I also love the snow pea tips. We ordered 1 appetizer, 1 veggie dish, and 1 main dish, and it was more than enough for 3 people. The dishes come with rice, too. Service is fine. Never had a problem. read more

I've been here a few times and came with some friends one Friday evening. In the past it has been okay and this time the food wasnot better or worse. I got mapo tofu since everything else was quite expensive if you didn't plan on sharing with the table (we had different preferences that night). My dish felt very gelatinous as if too much corn starch slurry was added. It made for a thick sauce with large, chunks of pork. Usually I'm used to the somewhat crispy tiny pork pieces which add a savory flavor. But the pork here wasn't my favorite. Also the sichuan pepper corn flavor was not as apparent as I'd like and almost tasted bland The staff is friendly but overall the food is not worth it in my opinion. read more

Nom nom nom What I went here with my family and we got a couple of items. I got the string bean and eggplant stirfry, this was pretty good. I don't eat out much but I also do find that Chinese food is overly salty... I could eat bowls of rice with these dishes! Some of the string beans were a bit old... the truffle fried rice was really good, quite fragrant. The dry pot was also decent. We got this at the mild spiciness so it was not as spicy as I imagine dry pots to be. We did the build your own dry pot and the base came with veggies and we added beef brisket, shrimps and fish balls. This dish was good! I think next time I'll try some of the dry pots combos already listed on the menu. Environment This is in the same plaza as enson supermarket. There is plenty parking available. The inside can be a little small, could fill out pretty quick! I went around 2pm and was able to get seating right away. They had around 3 large tables for large crowds of 8-10. Niceness of the staff Wouldn't say they were terrible or over the top. Often you find at Chinese restaurants that the service is not great. But this one was okay. Dollar I thought the dry pot for $34 was a little pricey tbh. The build your own has the base for 8ish and then you needed to add 3 items below at 8ish per. The fried rice was $15some and the string beans around $13. 3 of these dishes was easily $60 total. Plus thing is that they accept tap :D Yes? I would. Interested to try some other dishes. So, there's a bit of a story to this one, and if you rather skip ahead to the food, just read the second paragraph, if not; here we go. My best friend and I come to this plaza on west colonial a lot. Have been since back when Sapporo Ramen opened, that's how far back. So in all the years that we've been coming here, we always park in the same area, and always only see the same small bit of strip where Sapporo use to be, and where Sun pearl bakery is, up to the big super market. Never have we walked past the supermarket, but I was feeling adventurous today, and I was like: "Let's be devils and walk past the supermarket to see what lies beyond!" Ooooooo and so we came across our first stop: Hunan taste. I think what really got my attention was that none of the advertisements were in English, all pics of the food and descriptions were in Chinese. So while we were Ooooing and aahhhing at the pictures a guy who works there comes out, you can tell from his laugh that he found our curiosity over the food amusing, and he was so polite, brought us a menu to look at, and we ultimately go inside. It's very nice inside. I ordered a delicious hot Jasmin tea, and my friend orders a sprite. We told our waiter that we both really enjoy eggplant in garlic sauce and while yes, that was on the menu, he recommended we try eggplant with string beans and peppers, same sauce as the regular, but with the different mix of textures and the slight crunchiness from the green beans, it turns out to be an extremely delightful dish. The sauce was like caramel, so rich, and luxurious; I LOVED IT. This dish comes with white rice. We also ordered the walnut shrimp, and while I have ordered walnut shrimp in other places, I've never had it as good as it's prepared here. I think it's the abundance of garlic that I personally really enjoyed, crispy and delicious. I'm definitely going to come back and try one of their clay pot dishes, or maybe some of the seafood which looked phenomenal. I think I may just have found my favorite Chinese place. I was craving some Taiwanese beef noodle soup so decided to check out Hunan Taste. It did not disappoint. I did order to go. Plenty of noodles and beef, but wish there was more broth. Items were package well and nothing spilled. Broth had good flavor and wasn't to bland. I did add some chili sauce to the broth to make it spicier. I also ordered the scallions pancake. It was fried well and crispy. I don't know if it does come with any dipping sauce since there was no sauce in my to go order. I would try this place again. read more

The wonton in chili oil!!! The best I've had, because the sauce they make here is extremely tasty. It had a perfect balance of soy sauce, chili and a hint of peanut?? We saved the sauce to dip other things in. The stir fried pork intestines were another highlight. Crispy and spicy. It was nice we could adjust the spice level, we did mild cause we're babies when it comes to Szechuan heat! This is a hole in the wall at the Chinatown plaza. It got crowded very quickly around 12pm. People were coming in large groups and lots of locals. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes. read more

Omg! One of the best authentic Chinese places you have to go to. The food and the staff are great and super nice and attentive. The place itself isn't too big nor too small. It's big enough to fit enough people. Maybe about 50 to 70 people. The place itself was not loud. Everyone was able to have a conversation without yelling. The menu for the most part, we understood but the fried rice section was all in Chinese that we had to ask the waitress to translate. But she didn't mind. She was very nice. Food amazing! We had absolutely epic Christmas dinner takeout from HuNan Taste and would absolutely recommend that everyone looking for some fantastic food come here immediately!! To be honest, almost everything was literally perfect and would recommend everything, but our overall faves were the eggplant with garlic sauce and the sautéed string beans. absolutely delicious. other great dishes were the sour shredded potato, the shrimp with garlic (the vermicelli noodles they came with were absolutely divine), the beef in hot chili oil with szechuan peppers (very lemongrassy and yum), the general tso's chicken (a christmas go to), the wontons in chili sauce, and the fried rice with pork! the only ones that we were sliiiightly less enthusiastic about were the dan dan noodles (very yummy, but peanut taste totally took over the dish. adding chili oil is the move!), the mao style pork (gorgeous flavor, the pork belly itself was just like 95% fat, not a big problem for us but maybe for others), and the shredded potato with salted egg yolk (it was good just needed a lil something)! the employees were super kind and helpful even amidst a crazy rush, and my only regret is not eating in person with those lazy susan tables and drinking a bunch of their hot tea! happy eating xoxo read more

Plenty of Carpark spots for this restaurant. The server was very attentive from the moment we walked into the restaurant. We went in for a late lunch on the weekend and it was not very busy. Beef noodle soup - the taste of the soup and whole dish was delicious, the one thing that let this dish down was the lack of beef. There were more fatty bits than actual beef pieces available. Spicy diced chicken- the amount of Sichuan peppers in the dish can look overwhelming if you're not a fan of spice. The chicken pieces were delicious, giving you that nice spice/numb feeling in your mouth with every bite. The rice that comes along with it definitely helps to balance out the punch of peppers. read more

Very good choice for authentic hunan food. We had kung pao chicken, dry pot beef brisket, ma po tofu, shrimp and garlic, and dumpling in chili sauce. The kung pao chicken had peanuts with red peppers. The dry pot beef brisket was a good portion of beef. The mapo tofu with minced pork tasted just like home cooking. The shrimp and garlic was a very pretty presentation with steamed shrimp over tons of garlic and vermicelli on the bottom. The dumpling in chili sauce is a yummy appetizer. I also had the young chow fried rice which was a large portion and cooked just right. The staff is friendly and you can ask them questions about the menu in English if you are worried about what is on the menu or have food allergies. This place is literally a hidden gem in the Chinatown Plaza. The entrance is unassuming, but the interior is bright and contemporary, with lots of tables. The place was also fairly busy, which is a great sign given that the plaza itself is a little dead. The menu was full of great options. We ordered the Wontons in Chili Sauce and the Spicy Dry Pot. Because the style of food is based on Xiang-style spice, we didn't find the dishes to be as spicy as we'd been expecting; but both dishes were tasty and provided a very filling lunch. We found the Spicy Dry Pot to be a bit pricey for the portion size. But as HuNan is one of the few places that makes Spicy Dry Pot, I'm appreciative that they have it on the menu at all! The wontons were very tasty; don't be alarmed at the red chili oil, it's not as spicy as it looks. Next time, I'm definitely going to check out the rest of the menu! It is listed as eighth greatest traditional of Chinese cuisine. Hunan food is well accepted by many country. We have order the Xiang style specialty. We got the Mao Style Braise Pork. It is delicious. This dish is name after Chairman Mao. It is the braise pork belly is many hour make the skin and fat melt at your tongue. Good technique. We also got the sautéed cure meat with BAMBU shoot. The cure meat is taught meat to bite but it has special cure meat with spice. The BAMBU shoot was delicious. Along with Taste of Chengdu, these two places have some of the best Hunan and Szechuan dishes around. If you like dishes that are fiery but yet full of complex flavors, this is the place for you. This place is small and very popular, so make sure you come early or you may find yourself splitting a table with strangers. I got a variety of dishes when I went and all of them were excellent. The dry wok string beans had a good snap to them with some nice pop of salt. The clay pot beef was flavorful and had a deep flavor that pairs so well with rice. This place has been here for years and we finally had the chance to try it today. It's a beautiful restaurant with a mix of old school and new school feel. A modernized feel with tradition still in tact. Very clean and welcoming! The dishes seem simple but omg the taste is authentic, it doesn't deter away from the main ingredient item. Must try authentic Chinese! Stumbled upon HuNan Taste while searching through new restaurants on Yelp and got a coworker to try it out with me. The staff were super friendly and ready to offer us suggestions on what to eat. When they found out we were prepared for authentic Chinese (my coworker has spent a lot of time over in China) they were excited to see what we thought. We decided to try out the noodle dish they recommended (can't quite remember the name but with minced meat and sour bean sprouts), the cucumber salad, the preserved egg (very traditional), and the braised pork with preserved vegetable and boa. While the staff was slightly nervous we wouldn't like anything, I'm glad to say we loved all of it! The pork and boa and the cucumber salad were probably my favorites but the noodles were delicious and the egg was super fun to try! The restaurant is nestled in the midst of the plaza and has ample parking. Plenty of tables inside for all sizes parties. Staff comes and serves you and is keen to offer help if you start looking confused. Overall a very authentic experience and definitely one more people should try out! Will be back soon. read more
