I dined at Hai Woon Dai on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 7 pm. I heard this place was recently renovated and had their menus updated since I last came here, so I decided to revisit. I came for their Korean bbq and only ordered the D combo, which is the least expensive combination option at $74.99. For 2 people, I think the amount of meat in D combo is just enough. However, I think it is pretty expensive considering that a lot of AYCE Korean bbq places where I'm from in Northern Virginia are priced under $30/person. Nonetheless, the quality of the meat was still pretty good and tasted flavorful. I wish there were spicy marinated meat options, since I think those should be standard for Korean bbq. Service was good, but could be improved. I appreciated the servers cooking the meat, but after all the meat was cooked, they were no longer attentive to our table. I think this place is worth returning to try their other entree's, but not for the bbq. read more

It was the second Korean restaurant I tried in Nashville. Ordered the naengmyeon, jjajangmyeon, and Galbi. Both the noodle dishes were excellent. The cold buckwheat noodles were refreshing and were a great way to finish the meal. The black bean noodles were chewy, flavorful, and everything you want in the dish. I thought the short ribs were ok, but the marinade wasn't quite my favorite. Really good service. Will definitely be back! read more

While the bulgogi was fine (nothing special) the snowflake galbi was so disappointing. It was essentially flavorless, even with the added sauces and for $39 I was hoping for more. It was also pretty chewy. Luckily, the service was quick and the sides were pretty good, but there are no refills and I found them to be on the lighter side. p.s. there's free parking right outside, in case anyone was wondering. read more

This is our favorite kbbq spot in the Nashville area. Anytime we have an event or just crave we come here. Reservations are always great they have larger rooms for private reservations groups. They usually cook the meats for you which is nice if you don't know how long to cook for. I like this spot because it tastes very authentic. Many other kbbq spots have very typical restaurant kbbq taste when it comes to the meats but this spot tastes like someone's ahjumma is back there making everything. What usually makes or breaks a kbbq for me personally is the side dishes. Anyone can marinate meat but I think the side dishes tell you how authentic they really are and I love all the banchan here. read more

My roommates love this place. I on the other hand think this place is a little bit pricy. All the dishes we ordered tasted really good. I just wish they increased the quantity for the price we paid. The restaurant is clean and there is a lot of parking available. The people who served the food were kind and, our food came out really fast. After almost 4 years, yesterday we went back to Hai Woon Dai for dinner. My very first visit to Hai Woon Dai was 7 years ago. Previous visits made me think that it was a traditional, regular Korean restaurant with good food and fair hospitality. But, please note my Korean exchange students back in 6-7 years ago loved Hai Woon Dai and i was invited by them a few time. Thus no doubt this place was one of a "go-to" Korean restaurants. However, we did not visit during COVID years and I was told there was an ownership change. With all curiosities and past memories of Hai Woon Dai, we visited again yesterday. At the moment we went in, we were literally astonished by its new layout and interior design. Just keeping what it was as per the floor plan, but chairs, tables and walls are already renovated. Unfortunately, I did not take the picture of its overall setting. I noticed the new face of the manager and most of the waitresses are new to us as well - only familiar staff is a lady who has been with Hai Woon Dai for years :) when seated, we felt like we were in a Korean restaurant that is more modern and has better ambience - like some of the Korean restaurants in larger cities. There are quite a few instant photos on the wall of each dinning area. That is very creative. Food is of course even much much better and diversified! We never had BBQ in previous era of this restaurant, so we tried this time. The non-marinated pork belly is tender and fantastic; so is the Snowflake Beef Slices! Cold noodle (with soup) is so authentic that it reminded my childhood when I dined in a cold noodle restaurant in my hometown!! Everything just made us compliment all the time!!! Love it! Service is also unbeatable as you'd expect their BBQ assistance and seamless care of your table every minute :) If I recommended Hai Woon Dai 7 years ago, I will absolutely highly recommend this to all of my friends from Nashville, Asian countries and resigns, Americas, and other parts of the world!!! We visit here every year when I visit the kids for Thanksgiving in Nashville! The pork fried rice was amazing and forgive me, but I cannot remember or pronounce the names of the dishes I ordered...it was more point and order at this point. My daughter in law is Vietnamese and she loves coming here! The seafood pancake was very good, and we took most of that home for leftovers. The staff is always very nice and accommodating even when I request a fork and knife! Apparently it's been far too long since I've been to Haiwoondai. I have been coming here since they were a traditional korean restaurant ran by older aunties. I heard they added BBQ to the menu, but I didn't realize the restaurant was under new ownership and had been remodeled! They still serve all of the classic dishes like kimchi jjigae, soondubu jjigae, yukkaejang, etc. But I see with the new ownership there's "new age" Korean food on the menu like cream tteokbokki. We came for BBQ. It is not all you can eat, but they do have some combos if you are in a group of 4 or more. I think what sets Haiwoondai apart is the more unique cuts of meats, like "snowflake" beef (marbled), pork jowl, and beef belly. These cuts are much harder to find around these parts! We ordered the beef belly and pork jowl. If you like ordering pork belly (samgyupsal), try the jowl if you've never had it before. It's so rich and tender! Rude wait staff, especially the old lady. The old lady hassled my friend down who gave a 15% tip and basically asked for more when their service was below par. She stopped my friend from leaving and basically pointed to the 18% or more tips in front of the entire restaurant. No water or side dish refills were given.. The only time we were visited was when they took orders, gave us our food, hand us our check, and to take our checks. When handing us the checks, there were no manners. Not a single hello, hi, or anything. He just slid us the checks without saying a single word. The food was good but honestly, I rather go to Seoul Garden and get better service. We loved everything! During Covid, the staff were wearing masks diligently, everything was cleaned, and the tables were distant. The outside was unassuming but the inside had been recently redone. The owner took a little polaroid of us to hang at the table if we wanted. The ban chan were all wonderful. We are used to a 70/30 or so split of delicious and subpar ban chan items. We had some odd macaroni salad thrown in and while it didn't seem Korean, we didn't mind it. Great kimchi, pickled radish, eggplant... and the cucumbers were our favorite. We ordered a veg dolsot rice bowl and the black bean noodles. Both were flavorful and we were stuffed when we left. It also came with miso soup! Prices were reasonable. We actually only waited 5 minutes. We had impeccable service, and the restaurant was warm and homey. We ordered, I believe d3 or whatever was the cheapest KBBQ combo. It came with banchan, five different meats, salad, rice, and lettuce for ssam. It was all so delicious! It was also really fun to cook it all. Wow. I mean, just wow. I have been craving real Korean food after living in Korea for a year and nothing ever came close till I tried this place! The food is cheap and amazing. I had the Jajangmyeon(black bean noodles). And it was everything I wanted, the noodles were chewy, the sauce was thick and they put a lot of pork in it. Also it was very smooth due to the potato not being overcooked, a lot of Korean restaurants over cook their potato to thicken their sauce, which will end up with very grainy texture. And all the sides are my favorite.. all of them! I recommend that you give this place a try if you want to try real Korean food! One of the best Korean restaurants in town. It's off the main road of Antioch Pike, at the end of the shopping strip. The restaurant isn't huge, but they do have space in the back for large parties. I've got to be honest, the service is hit-or-miss, but I'm there for the food, I know what to expect. With that being said, their jampong is one of the best of the spicy, seafood soups I've had. Hearty, flavorful, chewy noodles, plenty of seafood. Along with their seafood pancake, crispy on the outside, so much flavor, and plenty of seafood and scallion. So good. The tofu soup is not the best I've ever had, but its good. I've been spoiled by Korean BBQ, and galbi just does not taste the same unless its grilled in front of me. But their's isn't bad. My husband also ordered their spanish mackerel this time, and although cooked perfectly, it was a little salty. We've had many other dishes there and all were pretty good. You can either choose to cook it yourself or sit at a regular table with no grill. We've only ever sat at a regular table & ordered from the menu. Our favorites are Galbi (spare ribs) & the Bulgogi!
