I can't believe this place hidden in a random corner of Antioch could be this amazing. This is the first time I felt like I was in Korean town of New York City. Amazing Korean food served by Korean aunties who are very nice. There was Korean music playing in the background, Polaroid photos on the wall of the restaurant and TV playing about streets of Korea. Food was stellar! Being a Korean food fan while I was in New York, I tend to have high expectations, and this is one of a few times that I've really felt satisfied with the authenticity of the ethnic/cultural food. Korean is my favorite cuisine. I was delighted to find this wonderful restaurant. It's in a small strip mall, the exterior is not inviting. Ambiance inside was very comfortable, very clean. Service was professional. One thing I use to judge ethnic restaurants is how many people of that ethnicity are there. Of the several tables occupied I was the only nonasian diner, so I assume authenticity. I had seafood soft tofu stew. It was delicious. Everything was so good!! I was in Seoul last year and had the best Korean bbq so this was a great find for that craving. I definitely missed having the egg soufflé but there was so much on the table with the banchan, it didn't matter. The potato and pork belly can be skipped but we(2) ate everything on the combo D. It could have fed 3 people. I was worried because on a rainy Wednesday night we walked into an empty restaurant. By the time we were leaving, it was full. The meats were cooked for us at the table. Great service and the interior is nice. I think next time we would like to try the ribeye and a couple of other items instead of the preset menu. The bulgogi was delicious. I've always been told Hai Woon Day was the best Korean in Nashville, so I ordered a few things to try it out myself. I will say, compared to most asian places I've gotten via takeout, the portions were fairly small. Here's what I tried: -Galbi: 9/10 - I love Galbi so much, and once again, this was no exception. It didn't have too much fat on it compared to others I've had, and the flavor was great. -Japchae: 9/10 - Sticky, sweet, savory, a perfect noodle side dish. With beef and vegetables, it was so delicious. -Ttukbaegi Bulgogi (Bulgogi Stew): 9/10 - This made bulgogi that much better. The broth is infused with the sweetness of the sauce in the most perfect way. The soup is full of bulgogi, rice cakes, and veggies. Not op of rice, it made for a great dish. -Bulgogi: 8/10 - Classic bulgogi. I can't imagine it being much better than this, but it still gets an 8 because it's not my favorite Korean protein. What I didn't love was the Banchan. There was no kimchi, but instead, some soft spicy cucumbers, macaroni salad, and a few others I don't remember. The food was honestly delicious, and I want to make that clear. Our actual waiter was also very nice and respectful, so this review is not directed toward them or the quality of the food. Unfortunately, our experience at the end of the meal really changed how we felt about the restaurant. A different employee, who was not our waiter, came over while we were paying. My sister was planning to leave a $14 tip, but the employee rejected it and told us, "No honey, we do 18%," while explaining that they live off tips. What really bothered me was that she then grabbed the pen out of my hand and wrote in an 18% tip herself, which came out to $23.57. I did not personally write or agree to that amount. In the moment, I was honestly caught off guard and overwhelmed by what had just happened. I completely understand that restaurant employees rely heavily on tips, and we had every intention of leaving one. But a tip should be the customer's decision. An employee should never take the pen from a customer and fill in the tip amount themselves. It's unfortunate because we genuinely enjoyed the food and had no issue with our actual waiter. This one interaction turned what had been a really good experience into an uncomfortable one. I hope management addresses situations like this because customers should never feel pressured into a specific tip or have an employee fill it in for them. read more

Visited October 12, 2024. We were warmly greeted as we entered, and upon being seated, I noticed the updated menus and the announcement of extended weekend hours from 9 PM to 10 PM. We had two servers: a kind young gentleman who also doubled as food runner and a female server who was less attentive. Although she didn't acknowledge our thanks, she did check on us periodically, so it wasn't a major issue. Our table ordered four entrées, and each one was delicious! My only complaint was that the egg in the Dolsot Bibimbab was overcooked. I corrected this by simply taking it out and added another in from my soontofu soup. Aside from that, the presentation and flavor of all four dishes were delicious. The Galbi was the star tonight--savory, sweet, warm, and tender--definitely a 10/10! My daughter loved it. This hidden gem has been around for over a decade, located in Antioch off I-24 at Haywood Lane, exit 57. I've consistently enjoyed my meals here, but today felt almost like a five-star experience. The jongal stew was flavorful with a slight sweetness. Seafoody, savory, and spicy. There was plenty of udon and beef. It was slightly lacking in octopus and the veggies - more would have been welcomed. The crown daisy veggie, for those who aren't familiar, is the leafy part of the chrysanthemum plant. It's slightly herbally with licorice notes. Banchan was options were meh. Macaroni salad, sweetened braised potatoes, etc are not my favorite options but I'm assuming they rotate based upon ingredient variability. The kimchi pancake was the best I've had. Crispy, craggly, slightly soft on the inside, crunchy veggies without an overwhelming kimchi taste. Scallions, zucchini, and kimchi laced the inside of the pancake, providing a structure for the batter to cling to. The batter was super crispy on the outside. Almost tasted like it was deep-fried. WHAT A MEAL. We stopped by Hai Woon Dai for takeout today and then stuffed our faces right outside the restaurant in our car (it's our new COVID thing), but it was too good not to eat hot and fresh (we live 40+ minutes away from the restaurant). We ordered online through Google via Postmates and got a confirmation text to let us know our order was confirmed and when it would be ready (with a link to check when the food was prepared and ready for pickup). The food was ready so fast - 15-20 minutes! And everything was delicious. We started with the Galbi mandu (A2: steamed dumpling), which were juicy and flavorful and delicious. We also tried the Teokboki (E22: spicy stir-fried rice cakes), which was a little (but not too) spicy and also delicious. After that, it was the Jjanjangmyun (N3: Korean-style Chinese noodle dish with black bean sauce), which was crazy delicious - so comforting. And we had to try their Galbi (B1: marinated beef short ribs), which were - you guessed it - delicious! We didn't in because of COVID (my vaccine appointment is right around the corner finally though), but my husband who ran in for the food said it was really charming inside! We'd happily eat in after we're both vaccinated (he's an MD that was vaccinated back in December). This was a great meal. I loved every bite. We visited Hai Woon Dai, because it was on my LIST (a sort of Nashville bucket list of things to do and restaurants to eat at before we leave Nashville in June of this year), and now I'm so sad we didn't eat at Hai Woon Dai sooner. We used to live in South Nashville, and Hai Woon Dai isn't that far. But we enjoyed our meal so much I'm sure we'll eat it again on a visit back to Nashville in the future when we're no longer residents! DELICIOUS. I dined at Hai Woon Dai on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 7 pm. I heard this place was recently renovated and had their menus updated since I last came here, so I decided to revisit. I came for their Korean bbq and only ordered the D combo, which is the least expensive combination option at $74.99. For 2 people, I think the amount of meat in D combo is just enough. However, I think it is pretty expensive considering that a lot of AYCE Korean bbq places where I'm from in Northern Virginia are priced under $30/person. Nonetheless, the quality of the meat was still pretty good and tasted flavorful. I wish there were spicy marinated meat options, since I think those should be standard for Korean bbq. Service was good, but could be improved. I appreciated the servers cooking the meat, but after all the meat was cooked, they were no longer attentive to our table. I think this place is worth returning to try their other entree's, but not for the bbq. read more
