I have known Haik for the past two years and he has shown me nothing but the uppermost respect. He's very educated on BMW's (hence the name German Autohaus) and has helped me with all the maintenance and repairs my car needs. I darn near tore my right front wheel off my BMW 328i on a pot hole, and limped my way to Haik's for a repair job. I had a short time to get the car repaired, and Haiks worked with me to get my car back on the road. The bill for the work was very reasonable. When I brought my vintage S500 here, getting involved in a political discussion was not on my agenda. I'm quite busy, and needed a quick evaluation without any B.S. I was immediately accosted by (presumably) the owner, who started yelling that no one was "allowed in my shop" (I had approached the service bay only after encountering an office with an uninviting plastic chain blocking the entrance). He then began screaming something incoherent - due to the commie cover on his face, I was only able to decipher something about "COVID-19" - then he demanded I "put on a mask" (I was standing outside at that point), and accused me of being a Republican (I'm not). Not a great impression so far. Hoping to get away from being browbeaten with leftist ideology and begin discussing my Mercedes, I informed him that I'm a practicing medical professional, one well-versed in virology and epidemiology at that. Somehow, COVID had became a point of contention between myself and a guy working at a garage. I tried to steer the conversation back to my car. He retorted that he had a "master's in English literature." What's concerning is not that so much that he has no credentials that would allow him to speak authoritatively on topics he deems himself expert on, but rather that he is impervious to reason. Read the other negative Yelp reviews - there are plenty - and a picture emerges of someone who is entitled, refuses to take responsibility for shoddy work, and then blames the customer when things go wrong. Not that such qualities are unheard of among leftists, of course, but they are not a good combination of characteristics to find in someone who will be tinkering with your $100,000 car. This guy is for the contingent of limousine liberals living in Santa Barbara (who will no doubt appreciate everything from his irrational fear of COVID to his effete master's degree), but definitely not for anyone else. Haik is wonderful! He does great, quick work and he's incredibly honest and trustworthy. The dealership told me that I needed rear brake pads and rotors and quoted me $750 to replace them. I took my vehicle to Haik because he had done my front brakes for a fraction of what the dealership charged. He measured the pads and told me that I had more than enough left and that I didn't even need the rear brakes done! When I eventually do need the rear brakes done I'll absolutely be taking my vehicle back to him. Highly recommend his shop! read more

This place is the best! After having my Mercedes serviced and repaired here, it has never run better - even with over 110K miles on it! It might take a little longer than other places, but it will be done right. We took a Mercedes in for an issue with a seat. He charged $400 just to look at the seat and try to figure it out. THEN he said we had to bring it back and it would need multiple parts and THREE DAYS to fix. SO we took it to another mechanic who within an hour had determined that the seat motor was loose, repaired it and only charged $175. THIS guys is NOT HONEST and it makes me really angry! read more

Freshly completing factory branded automotive training and heading back home for a job offer- my Volkswagen starts to misfire on cylinder #3. How did I know this? Because I have a special computer I carry around with my tools when I am making a long cross country trip. Unfortunately the bank forgot I was driving through a few states and they locked up my account- no pleading over the phone would get them to loosen up the grips on my electronic plastic cash. So here I am, limping like a three legged stray dog trapped in Santa Barbara and behind schedule. Somehow this shop pops up in Google search and I decide to pay them a visit. When I got into the shop they treated me like a typical "female customer" I could sense their greedy rat paws tremble at the possibility of getting a slice of cheese. I walked in, flat out old them what was wrong and showed them my diagnosis. I explained I am factory certified and am on my way back home to accept a job offer from Audi and needed to high-tail out of town as soon as possible. After this, their tune changed. They didn't give a rats rump as to how well I had diagnosed my vehicle and was going to buy parts from them anyway- this is where they deserve 0 stars: As I mentioned earlier my bank card was tied up. I called my Fiance and told him what was going on. He gave me a card number over the phone with expiration date and the special code on the back. I needed spark plugs and an ignition control module to be at 100%. This is where the rat turds show their true colours. I give them the info and say charge me the $250 so I can get home. They REFUSED. I pleaded and they REFUSED again and again. I offered them my drivers license to keep which showed the address I was driving to, I offered to have my fiance call them and order the parts on the phone. Nope- no bueno, then they accused me of possible credit card fraud- yet my car was parked in their driveway with a roof rack, back seat and trunk full of boxes and luggage...along with out of state plates and DOD stickers. I started to count my cash I had on me. All I had was enough to cover one part. I chose it by flipping a coin in the air and then walked out after they told me it would be a 6 hour wait since the parts were coming from Los Angeles. Screw this shop, you Kraut bastards. read more

Last week was my second time working with Haik and Kurt. I visited the shop last year around the same time and I wrote a review singing Haik's praises, but for some reason it's no longer posted so I thought I'd repeat how amazing my experience was last year as well. Last year I'd been to two other mechanics who could not figure out why my 2003 BMW 325i was going into "limp mode" (scary when you're on the freeway!!!).Haik was the only one who figured out what the problem was and fixed it within a few days. On top of that he was extremely helpful in explaining the problem to me and even took me into the shop to show me what was going on with the part that was giving me all of the trouble. This year was no different. I was smart this time around and didn't even mess around with other mechanics. took the car straight to Haik. Kurt was the one I spoke to on the phone and he was there when I dropped off the car. He was personable and professional. I felt confident leaving the shop. Haik is the one who called to update me and spent a considerable amount of time explaining the problem to me. When I went to pick up the car he was kind and caring. He went out of his way to make me feel better as I was feeling pretty stressed out about the car situation. Tough to find a great and trustworthy car repair shop, right? How many places have you been over the years? Atlanta, LA, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas, Washington, DC. How many cars? BMW, Porsche, even an MGB back in the day. Add in a couple of motorcycles - Triumph and Ducati - and it all adds up to years of disappointment at the hands of, mostly, less than skilled and, occasionally, less than honest mechanics. If I could, I would clone Curt and Haik and take them with me wherever I drive. Well, maybe not, but I sure do wish they could work on my cars until it's chauffeur or short-bus time. I would offer 6-stars....the sixth because they meticulously prepped my BMW for a cross-country drive throughout which I was safe, comfortable, and worry-free. And I arrived alive. Maybe 7-stars. First off, this shop is excellent to work with. That said, I bought a 2009 Audi TT back in February, and the dealership was unsure if the 40k DSG service had been done. With about 53k miles on the clock I have been driving the car carefully, and trying to research any known issues (since it's my first VW/Audi with DSG/S-tronic) since my car seemed to want to lurch when rolling to a stop. I decided that I had to bite the bullet, and take my car to an actual shop because this was something I couldn't diagnose on my own. I simply googled Audi mechanics in Santa Barbara, and found Haik's German Autohaus. I called, and Haik was not only very friendly, but informative, and honest. I'm very picky about what shops I take my car to, especially for the first time because you never know what their standard practices are. You are right, BMW had stopped making the 330i in 2007 the last year it was made was 2006. I bought my 330i in december of 2006, so BMW sold me the 2007 make/model. I have the dual exhaust but they are on the left side, whereas other 2007 models have the exhausts on both sides. So there is no need to hope for me knowing my own car. Thanks for thinking I'm stupid though, really makes you a big boy. I was a student at UCSB for four years and that is why I came to your shop for a repair, which you did horribly by the way. I regret going to you, especially because you take advantage of people by calling yourself a specialist. If i ever knew that I was going to have a 1000% increase of my estimate in my total bill, I would have never gone to you. That is why I am writing such an HONEST review. So check your records again, because I have been there. I know your face and I've seen you at costco on multiple occasions at the Goleta Plaza. I know your partner as well who you claim "fixed" my car. It's crazy that your business has been able to run with such a harsh and brash owner, just shows how many people of your so called "community" you've been able to take advantage of. I would expect a noble businessman to be humble to all costumers, especially the ones who you give an estimate to and then inflate the price to outrageous proportions. You call my review disgusting and you claim that I'm a coward?! My boyfriend and I purchased a used VW New Beetle, because I thought it was "adorable" and had always wanted one. We thought we were getting a good deal and buying through a reputable dealer, sadly, we were mistaken. :( We brought the "adorable" little Beetle into Haik's German Autohaus to assess all of the issues. Haik and Kurt could not have been more helpful, and honest with us. They told us what we needed to fix immediately and what we could wait on. They always try their best to keep costs down as much as possible but are not willing to cut any corners, which is so appreciated. They are super friendly, and have a way of making you feel like although yeah, you've got car issues, you are not in it alone, and for a midwestern girl like myself, this is very important! I would highly recommend Haik's German Autohaus, and will never take my Beetle anywhere else as long as I am in Santa Barbara. After my second "visit" to the shop, Haik thanked me for managing to "keep a smile on my face"... Although I can see how some people may be grumpy after paying for auto repairs, and it certainly doesn't make me wanna dance, it is truly hard NOT to smile at someone who takes so much pride in their work! I had Haik working on my Mini Cooper S 2005, and even though he was not feeling well that day (something related with his vision), he took my car in and walked me over all the assessments he was going to do on my car. I live in SB and was used to driving all the way to Thousand Oaks to have any service done on my Mine Cooper. I am so happy that I found Haik Motors. I recently had a full service with some sensor troubleshooting work done. The shop itself is very clean and Curt and Haik were both professional and friendly. We sat together in the office and they went through everything with me taking time to explain all that was needed and how much the costs would be if required.etc. They kept me posted as to progress and my car was ready when they said it would be. I had been having problems with my Jetta for six months as the result of a stubborn check engine light. After spending over $3000 at the local VW dealership, over the course of eight different visits, the problem persisted with no solution. Haik listened to my concerns and thoroughly tested various components to identify the source of the problem. He kept my car for about a week, drove it every day and committed three times the amount of hours to diagnosis than he charged me for. Finding a number of problems the dealership had overlooked, he was able to fix the problem at a fair price. After six months of runaround from the dealership this was no small feat. I found Haik by accident, I was stranded in Santa Barbara with my 1981 Mercedes and I stumbled upon his shop. Haik and Kurt came to my rescue in a big way. They did amazing work, gave great advice, and got me back on the road quick. When I got home to SF, my usual mechanic was extremely impressed with their work. He sends his SoCal family members there. Now I schedule ALL of my mechanical work with them and make a special trip down to SB so I can have my beloved old benz taken care of the right way. Haik HIKES prices! He is a very personable and friendly man upon first impressions. He kept my car for 16 days and the price kept going up from original estimate of just under a thousand dollars to several thousand dollars. Every time he called, (on day 15) which was less than a 5 minute interval he would add another $1000. to the price. On day 15 he actually began work on the vehicle assuming that I had several cars at home and did not need my one and only car. I picked it up on day 16. Upon taking the car to another place the very next day, they said that he is known to be quite friendly while grossly overcharging his customers. Expensive lesson, but trust me it will not happen again. The sad thing is, he did not get around to one of the major things I originally brought the vehicle in for repair. In all fairness, he did offer on day 15 (when he actually began the work) to do it for another $1000. but I declined as he totally put me in the poor house. read more

I disagree completely with the reviews above. I've found Haik to be very honest and reasonably priced(esp given it's a German car repair shop). I have a fair amount of knowledge about car repair and Curt/Haik have always been spot on. They are truly german auto specialist, so take that into consideration when you're comparing them versus you're typical corner garage. read more
