When I was a little girl many many many years ago my parents entertained A LOT. My father also went fishing and also stopped at this ice place to fill up his coolers so he could sell to the folks in the neighborhood. We never got our ice from a supermarket...ever. I looked forward to the trips to the ice man. Cuz he also sold soda. Anyway M and M and I were walking from Gladys' and I see this ice place!! Memories flooded my brain. I fell into a time warp. I saw a bunch of young black guys hanging outside and I immediately knew that this was the place. I walk over and I start to interrogate all of them. "Wasn't this place on the left side of the street? Wasn't there an old black man that worked here?" My friends thought I was crazy. But these dudes confirmed that I wasn't. This was the place. Yes it moved from Bergen to St Marks. Unfortunately the owner died but I got to meet his son Me-Roc. He owns it now. And he's knowledgeable. Super knowledgeable about, of all things, ice. I had no idea about the "lucratvity" of the ice business. For instance did you ya know that dry ice is used for all kinds of shit: Tibetan funerals, specialty drinks, and pest control (wtf?). I literally witnessed their patient consultative approach to selling ice to a woman who was in there to buy dry ice. I'm pictured here with Me-Roc. I want him to be my new friend. Hosted a BBQ party for 25 people Friday evening, needed lots of ice. A FUNDRAISER for my daughter's high school. People donating money to the PTA, and expecting good food and COLD BEVERAGES. I call Hailstone in the morning at 8:15, they confirm that they can deliver 80lbs of ice at 4 pm. At 4:15, not here yet, I call and am told "They are on the way, must be stuck in traffic" By 5.30, not only havent they shown up, nobody is even answering the phone. I had to walk my granny cart a few blocks away and buy from a supermarket, all while trying to prepare BBQ for 25 donors Hey, if you cant make it, you cant make it - but dont tell me you CAN, stand me up, and disappear. One star is one too many considering I went through a similar experience as did the other one star reviewer. This past Saturday I called Hail Stone about 9:00 AM to ask about delivering 2-40 pound packages of ice cubes by 4:00 PM. The woman told no problem so I gave them my address, apartment and telephone numbers. 4:21 PM comes and goes with no delivery so I call ..... nobody there so I leave a message. Event starts at 5:00 so after hopping into the shower at 4:30 to get ready I come out to see a missed call from 347-683-2953 at 4:34 PM. Message is totally inaudible. I call the number back to be told they were here, but if that's so why didn't anyone ring the bell so my girlfriend could let them in while I was in the shower? Here's the real problem with Hail Stone Ice .... when I asked when they could swing back I was told they didn't know and hung up on me. They never showed up so I had to make a last minute run to the local supermarket and carry back 15 bags with a friend. Luckily, I was able to get the coolers full and chill the drinks before our guests started arriving. Words of advice to person the other end of 347-683-2953, don't hang up on customers. Not only is it just plain rude, but bad for business. While prices at Hail Stone are nice there's no point doing business with a company that literally leaves you out in the cold! read more

I am an event planner and party captain for a small catering company in Brooklyn. In the past, I've had problems finding reliable ice delivery, especially for parties on a Sunday. I had a great experience with Hailstone! They were responsive and helpful, via both email and phone. Arrived when they said they would, great customer service and great price point. Excellent place!! I needed ice for a party I was having on short notice & found this place. Service was very professional & prompt. The pricing was very unexpectedly cheap. I was very pleased at the amount of ice I got for my money, by far the best that I have came across hands down. They had all types of ice, such as ice cubes, dry ice, & block ice. The employees were very knowledgeable & informative about the product(s) they had & how to keep them as fresh as possible. They even have delivery service if needed. After reading the 2 reviews, I was skeptical of dealing with them. But I went cause I was desperate. I must say I was pleased with the service. The two men I spoke with were very knowledgeable of what I needed and approximately how much I needed to help with my issue. Im assuming because I picked up the ice myself and opted out of the delivery service, I had a better experience. Anywho I was pleased. read more

Standing outside right now. I took a train here to pick up some dry ice. Closed, despite the fact that I arrived in the middle of the day on a Wednesday (right in the middle of the hours). No sign to indicate when they'll be back. Bad business practices and a waste of my time. read more
