I've been coming to this place for a really long time, but I was in a bit of a dilemma...as mentioned I've been coming here for a really long time, but this is the first time where I've experienced my stylist, Tony (an awesome, very kind, very well experienced stylist - highly recommend), was on extended vacation. Tomorrow, I will be going out of town and my hair was too long for my liking. I was much need of a haircut. So I called and Hannah, the manager, picked up with phone call. I explained to her my situation and how anxious I was regarding getting a new stylist. She was EXTREMELY understanding, professional, kind, polite, friendly, and really comforted me in the situation. THANK YOU! And so I feeling more relieved about it, I went into my appointment today and man they did not disappoint! Sean, was the stylist who cut my hair and man he did not disappoint! He went beyond my expectations!!! If you really want a great stylist, HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH TONY AND SEAN!!! This is a review regarding hair coloring with Heather. For bleaching Asian hair, she is the go-to in Chicagoland area. I was specifically looking for a Korean colorist who can do the hair coloring techniques like they do in Korea, but they were hard to find even in Chicago area. I found Heather through word of mouth, as I saw another Asian woman in Chicago with excellent, long healthy platinum blonde hair and she referred me to her to get my own hair done. I get my natural black hair lightened to a beige shade. You can find more examples of work from her instagram @hair2heart_heather Heather does a great job lightening the hair and lifting the brass without destroying the hair in the process and blending the roots in when doing a root touch up. I've been going here for well over 5 years now and have always been happy with my haircut. They are now expanding their services and now offer scalp treatments, which remind me of my time in Korea. Staff are typically friendly. They probably speak Korean but they also speak English. Basic men's haircut goes for 35 dollars after tax. It's easy to book appointments online and there's free parking in the lot in front. Heather is my personal recommendation as she spends ample time and attention to ensure my look comes out how I want it. read more

Just got my hair butchered by the young Korean hairdresser with tattoos on her left arm. I think her name is Heather according to the salons Instagram. Yesterday, I made the mistake of coming in 20 minutes before closing. I understand people want to close after a long day of work, but it's unprofessional and malicious to let out frustration onto someone's hair. I showed her a picture as a reference for what I wanted and paid for. She spent no longer than one second looking at the photo and began quickly and aggressively zero-blading my hair. The haircut itself lasted no longer than 10 minutes and after getting my hair shampooed, she sat me down again and did some touch ups.. I sensed she felt regret and was trying to salvage her rage. I was not rude or disrespectful. I don't know why she did what she did, but I would not get a haircut from here again even if they paid me. Payed her $290 for making my day so awful. in the middle of the process i was really asking her for a straight outcome not a curled one but it turned out its not what i wanted for. I saw that most if the reviews here are years old, so I figure I'd put a review in. I enjoy this place, I've gotten haircuts by 4 of the hair stylists and I haven't had a problem, but I started sticking to Jasmine because she styled my hair especially nice. For those who don't know how to describe what you want, I show her a picture, and she gets it done in a way that compliments the shape of my head. Mr. Kim still tends to double book as one of the reviews said, but most people I see that get haircuts leave smiling or at the very least satisfied. read more

I'm debating to go since it's expensive and it was a first visit. But I still wanted to try it, how would I know if I like it or not if I didn't go right? I called in and made an appointment. I made sure that the hair stylist know I have limited time and wanted to do hair cut first since that what I mostly wanted then plan later to color my hair dark. (I had bleached and ash gray/blonde at my ends before.) Yet she wanted to color first and even bleached. So I didn't have enough time for cutting hair. She knew that my hair needs to be double bleach process for highlights to blend well but due lack of time couldn't. Now my hair color looks mismatched and wasn't dark at all. I'm a bit disappointed that I have to color my hair again with a darker color on my own to even my hair color. This review is only for the color and not the haircut :) Maybe if she cuts my hair, it would be good, I'll try to be optimistic about it. read more

Only Tony knows how to tame my curly hair! Every year or so I get a magic straight to flatten out my otherwise frizzy hair that I was blessed with. I have gone to other stylists in the area but either my hair gets fried (clumps of hair fell out), or they don't bother to be detailed and patient with the straightening iron (then my hair looks dented in a few days). I used to go to Suri at this location but she has drastically reduced her hours due to taking care of her family. But that's okay because Tony is just as good if not better (sorry Suri, you were the OG so I give props to you). And the price is very reasonable. It depends on the length of your hair, but some places would quote me $400+. With Tony at Hair 2 Heart you get an awesome Magic straight and some money left over to buy yourself a cute outfit, go somewhere fun - or both! You won't break the bank. And more importantly Tony does not rush through the process. He takes the time to straighten out each section of hair to produce beautiful results. I never thought I would give a korean place 5 stars ( No offense to my fellow koreans but customer service is not really on the top list for any business owned by Korean people) but this place really impressed me. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the entire staff and the host took my jacket and hung it up for me. My hair dresser was a man who recently came from Korea but he was very knowledgeable about hair and what he thought would look good. With the help of a translator (almost all of the staff spoke English, aside from my hairdresser guy), I was able to dictate what I wanted and what he recommended. Even in my broken korean, he tried to create small-talk which I appreciated bc I always feel it awkward when it's dead silent. The desk guy(he also cuts hair.. I have no idea who he is or if he owns the place) is the nicest man I've ever encountered. THere are mini t.vs at every seat and he made sure I was able to see the t.v. He even gave me some headphones to listen to the t.v while I was getting my hair cut. The man and the staff came up several times to see if I wanted any coffee or water. Talk about customer service! They were fairly busy and they took the time to tend to me. After the cut, he put my jacket on for me and again, the entire staff greeted me out the door. Impressive! Highly recommende!! read more

I've been coming here for the past couple years for haircuts. I've always been satisfied! Not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. Unfortunate that people do not seem to ne happy, so I thought I'd share my positive experiences. I've gotten my hair cut by different staff and loved both! I can't remember their names, but the man has dark circular rimmed glasses. He is excellent! I have very thick hair. So thick, to the point I get headaches. They always know how to cut the excess hair without changing the style of haircut that i request. I usually get a short haircut style and they know how to style the hair while accentuating my features. They make suggestions, but don't pressure you to make the choice. Things I like: -I like that they can speak both Korean and English. - I like how each chair has a tv. Good bye, strip mall barbershop. Hello, salon! The new location is a huge improvement. It's in a different strip mall but it feels a world apart. One of the girls told me that the owner designed it himself. Bravo! The same group of stylists are there (whew!) plus a new addition. I brought the hubby in for a cut but his wavy hair threw the new girl off. We'll be going with another stylist next time. I'm sticking with my girl for cut and color though. Went for women's haircut. They finished hair cut in 15 min, there was no hair wash or blow dry done. They charged 40$. The person before us got all service for the same price. When asked, they said 'if you want, we will do'. Last time when I went some other person did everything they are expected to do. This dude today took a short cut by not providing all services. They do not indicate what is included in the hair cut and what is not. No prices displayed or service details offered in the salon. Transparency and ethics are important for business. They seem to have none. Very poor customer service. Not all customers are treated the same. Do not recommend anyone. read more

I want to cry. I came here for the second time because I went last year and had a decent experience. Plus it's very cheap. $30 for women cut, shampoo and blow drying. However this time this place totally screwed up. I think Gabi was the one that cut my hair. I showed her a picture and it seemed as though she understood. I wanted a lob and wanted my hair to be touching my shoulders. The final product does NOT touch my shoulders because in the middle of the cut she did a terrible job layering so she had to chop off a lot of hair to fix.... I am so sad that I came here. This place is super affordable and a total hidden treasure!!! All the korean girls go to the big name places (ie park jun, kim sun young) and dish out so much money! If they only knew about this place! I know the sign says "men's hair" in korean, but they do women's hair too! The owner really listens to what you want and also gives his professional opinion as well. (The owner used to work at kim sun young.) My boyfriend gets his hair cut there every month (only $13 for guys!) and just this last time, I decided to go with. (only $20 for girls!) I was going to get my hair cut at the place my mom goes to (Gloria Hair Art) but I figured I'd look up Yelp to see if there was something else. I was intrigued by Musuma since it sounded like it was more of a barber shop. I have a lot of memories of my dad taking me to Korean barber shops when I was younger where everyone got army style crew cuts so I had a little bit of hesitation about going to a Korean barber shop. You don't have to worry about this place though -- there are magazines of trendy Japanese hair styles on the coffee tables. The guy I got didn't speak English very well and my Korean is pretty basic but I think I was able to get across what I wanted. Not that I'm that particular anyways. I made an appointment but still had to wait a little while. I won't blame them for this though -- I'm sure 90% of the people who go here don't make appointments. In that way, it's not really a salon. If I lived in Chicago, I would gladly go back to Musuma since I liked my haircut and prices are good. read more

After reading all the reviews on this place by my fellow yelpers, I decided to check this place out and ask for Suri, even though I don't speak a word of Korean. Boy oh boy, am I happy that I did! I had a vague idea of what I wanted my hair to look like after my haircut. I gave the description of "bangs around my cheek bones, layers, and keep the length but remove the split ends" to Suri. She transformed my vague idea into beautiful cascading layers. I never knew my hair could look so good in long layers! I love that it has such definition even though it's long. She even showed me an easy technique to put it up. She really did a thorough job with my hair. From start to finish, my cut was about an hour and a half. During my cut other people had much faster cuts than I did, but I think it's because they only did trims or touch ups. My cut was an overhaul from six months without a cut. The venue is stylish and modern, and the best part is they have the cutest little dog! She was a sweetheart, so cute and well behaved. Overall, it was a great experience, and I will definitely go back! read more

I usually get my haircut by Jin (girl) whenever I go, she's great! I really value her input on what she thinks looks good and I appreciate that she always takes her time cutting my hair. She is also a hair styling wizard. After they are done cutting your hair, they ask if you want your hair styled. I give Jin full artistic control with styling my hair and I always come out looking like a straight up model. People ask me for autographs after I get my haircut. *Haircuts are $20, which is cheaper than what most other places charge (~$24-$27). read more

Pros Descent men's haircut. ($20 for cut and shampoo) Everyone is nice. Cons Kim(owner) always double books. (2 clients at the same time) He starts with 1 client, then start 2nd client when 1st client is heading for shampoo. When 1st client comes back, Kim tells 1st client to wait, keep working on 2nd client until he sends that client for shampoo, comes back and finish the 1st client. Because he double books, he's always in rush. Total of 3 hair stylists cut my hair so far, all of them used same scissors and comb for all clients. There are barbicides(disinfectant) on their tables. I have been going to Gabi for few months now....and have done the cut, the perm, the color. I am satisfied with all three! She listens and gives u good input, but ultimately does what you want. Super nice & friendly....and makes sure u leave the place looking amazing. My husband has been going to Mr. Kim for a second year now, and he was satisfied each and every time. The cut is quick and very clean, no fuss no mess. Easy to style and their cost isn't an arm and a leg!!! Friend recommended this place and was very happy with the end-product as well as the service every time I came in. Tony has excellent craftsmanship and I feel like I'm in good hands every time I ask for him.
