Shortly after she responded and gave me her number where we had a consultation via texting and set up an appointment. It's amazing what technology can do! I used to get full highlights with my hair picked very thin, so my hair looked solid blonde. Since I let it grow out for over a year, there was a huge difference. Alison knew exactly what to do to make it look natural and cohesive with the highlights I had from before. She ended up doing a balayage and some foils to achieve the look and also cut my hair. I am so happy with how my hair turned out and she was so helpful and gave me a look that has an easier (and cheaper) maintenance from what I had before. She is such a great stylist and so sweet! I arrived, and Rumi was super nice, warming, made me feel at ease. It's a small studio room so it's most likely just the customer there being worked on. It wasn't one of those fancy city studios or those huge salon suite places. It felt quite homey, in a great way. I explained my hair situation and how I wanted to cut quite a bit off for my hair to look healthier, and asked Rumi for some of her opinions and expertise. Ended up getting around a foot of hair cut off, some face framing layers. It was amazing! She washed my hair, cut, blow dry. Rumi also does henna, and we talked about that for a bit since I wasn't sure if that would show on my hair, so maybe some day I'll try coloring via that route. My daughter wanted to get her hair cut for quite some time too, and she approved of mom's haircut, so I made an appointment for her to get her hair cut by Rumi the following week. She wanted side bangs, but her hair wouldn't naturally part that way, and she's low maintenance (similar to me), so Rumi suggested curtain bangs, and she went with that. She's gotten so many compliments from her friends and other family members re her haircut. I don't get my hair cut often, but now I know where to go - super convenient, and Rumi is purely an amazing person! My daughter said the same, and another perk was there were some sweets she couldn't resist after her haircut. :)

She mentioned that because my mother had been coloring her own hair at home, lifting the color might be difficult. I appreciated the honesty and trusted her judgment when she recommended keeping the base as is and just adding highlights with gray coverage. However, the end result was incredibly disappointing. When I came to pick up my mother, I was shocked by how brassy and uneven her hair looked, and far from the golden tones we had discussed. When I voiced my concerns, Marissa reiterated that she had mentioned challenges during the consultation. But I was not expecting the outcome to be this far from what was envisioned. What made the experience even worse was being charged $375 for a job that didn't reflect skill. If you know you cannot deliver the desired result, then that should be made crystal clear upfront. And if the client is unhappy with the final outcome, a discount or some gesture of goodwill should be the bare minimum. Instead, the only "solution" offered was to dye my mother's hair dark again to help tone the brassiness, which completely defeats the purpose of her visit in the first place. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Marissa's services, especially for those with darker hair tones. This was supposed to be a joyful experience for my mom, and it turned into a regretful present. I'll be seeking a stylist with more experience and a better understanding of how to work with dark hair and who prioritizes client satisfaction. The pictures of my mother's hair speak for themselves. I got my blowout from Elena. She did a great job washing my hair and listened to what I stated as far as I have an oily scalp. The only thing I wasn't pleased about is she took 40ish mins to do a blowout and while that's great for someone who has short hair. I have never had someone take less time for my hair as it is pretty long. Normally, my blowouts take an hour or hour and 15 mins. And the result being, my blowout did not last more than 2 days. My blowouts normally last easily 4-5 days. I wish she took more time focusing on making sure not to just dry my hair and pin curl it, but more on making sure the round brush holding its volume.
