Quick, inexpensive haircut. If you're a Northwestern student your haircut is $18 (instead of $20). Not a huge discount but better than nothing! They do take credit cards over $10. If you need a cheap and quick haircut, this is the place to go. They have $15 haircuts, and $12 for Northwestern students. They take walk-ins, and the place was almost empty (one other male customer) and I was literally in and out of this salon in less than 15 minutes. The haircut itself was less than 10 minutes. I just wanted a basic trim of an inch or two to get rid of split ends, so I wasn't expecting too much. Basically, I got what I paid for! My hair is looking a little choppy and uneven, but maybe it will look better after a wash tomorrow. Otherwise I will be sporting a ponytail for a little! I'm not unhappy with my hair, since I'm not very picky overall, but I'm not sure I will be back unless I desperately need a haircut right away and only have a few minutes to spare.... read more

$15 for very nice cut & blowdry. Whole "experience" lasted 10 min. from walking in to her handing me mirror to check her work. Didnt look like the pic i brought & when i politely told her so, she informed me my hair is too thin for the cut pictured. I replied that it wouldve been nice if she told me that before she started cutting. The cut looked bad, at first. I asked her to 'do' more. She told me "if she cut more, i'd have no hair left." Mind you, my hair is past chin length. I haggled to get more depth/layers cut into my 6mos-w/o-a-haircut. End result was okay, except bangs bit uneven. This place is great for college kids (hence $12 discount for northwestern students) but adults may want more. Bottom line: if you want a 10 min, $15 no wash cut that last 6wks, this place isnt half bad. Update: LOVED this cut the next day, straight out of shower! Def. going back! read more

If you want a quick and cheap haircut, this is the place to go in Evanston. If you want a friendly experience, I would pass this place up. I walked in to a lady talking on her cell phone, she kept talking with me just standing there. She hung up, and proceeded to not say anything to me, so I just sat in the chair. She's neither taciturn nor overly loquacious. You know how some barbers and dentists see you as a captive audience with a wallet? Not Fairuz; she's a straightforward and good person who gives a man a straightforward, quick and good, inexpensive electric shears cut with scissors detailing followup and eyebrow trimming, with minimal small talk. Fairuz is a professional. Her cuts last, too. They grow out evenly and allow for an extra week or two if necessary between visits when one may be busy or otherwise not adhering to one's barbering schedule. No appointment is required. My eyebrows were out of control and I saw on Yelp that this place takes walk-ins, so I walked in. I only had to wait a few minutes. Threading feels like getting a face tattoo with ink made of habanero peppers and salt, but you can't argue with results, and these results were excellent! I will definitely be back. read more

Walked in on a Friday afternoon, with the hopes of getting my brows done. Seven dollars seemed reasonable, compaired to Benefits Brow Bar a few stores down. One lady was cutting hair while the other was cleaning up, neither of whom said anything. No 'hello', no 'how may I help you'.. nothing. So, I sat on those waiting chairs. A minute or so later an older male walks in, he also received the same awkward 'no greeting' as I. We both were seated in that waiting area for about 10 mins. One of the ladies ask the man, who walked in after me, to sit in the salon chair. The man pointed at me politely, "she came in before me." The lady looked at me, "Oh, " she said, "she's just waiting for someone." It was then when I got up and left the place. Seriously who just walks in to wait? It makes no sense? I asked for a 1 inch trim and to get my hair thinned, but she cut it so much shorter and it's completely uneven in the back. My roommate had to cut some parts that she FORGOT ABOUT and it's still not enough (obviously because we aren't PROFESSIONALS). I think it was her attempt at layers, but it looks and feels completely ridiculous. Rip I went 2 years ago and it was fine, but today was completely horrible. I'm literally researching how to grow out my hair fast and bought a bunch of biotin to try to fix the damage, there's no other way to make it even than cut it really short for the shortest length. :((((((( read more

Not sure if i am too picky. I came in wanting to have my hair cut but was nervous since i had my hair messed up by hairdressers so many times. I told her i want to cut 2 cm of my hair first then cut a layer style in the front. She was friendly and funny but her cut was very basic. She just cut 2cm of each group of hair and didnt fix it as a whole to make sure they are all equal. When i told her about the layer in the front, she just cut a diagonal line and that's it! By then my impression was maybe i should find another hairdresser rather than risk cutting more of my hair. If you want basic cut, this is the place. It is quick and affordable (17$). read more

I really needed a haircut in time for a formal and honestly, Sarah delivered. I walked in at 5 and I needed to leave by 6. Sarah got me in the chair and gave me a fantastic cut and Fairuz did my eyebrows and I was out of there by 5:32. Sarah really listened to what I wanted - she constantly checked every step with me to make sure I was okay with it and I was grateful for that. I had a mild coughing fit during it and she got me a cup of water and offered to refill it multiple times. She was engaging and caring and it made a world of difference in terms of experience. To be honest, it probably wasn't a cut that would revolutionize my style or anything but it was exactly what I wanted. It was a great price and way better than what you could get at the Great Clips or Super Cuts or some other chain. Fairuz did a great job. She asked me what i wanted and then delivered, nothing more nothing less. All of this was less than $20! (I had a student discount.) If you're a NU student, or a student anywhere really, I recommend Hair By Fairuz. If you're not, I still recommend it. The older woman who cut my hair did a really bad job. It was choppy all over, she left the back shaggy, and my bangs looked like a little kid. She didn't want to give me the student discount because I'm an older graduate student, the owner told her to give me the discount, and then she charged my card the full amount anyway. DO NOT COME HERE FOR EYEBROW THREADING, ESPECIALLY WITH FAIRUZ. She does a very careless job, uncaring whether you are satisfied with the results or not. I plan to go back to ask for a refund. I asked for a slight clean up, and she drastically changed it. The eyebrows were too thin, and when I expressed dissatisfaction, she said that she didn't "See it" and kept trying to clumsily reassure me that it looked all right. I came here by a recommendation from a friend for an eyebrow threading, so I expected a good job. When I came in I said "just touch up the shape. Not too thin please". The lady working kind of waved me off, at the time, I assumed it was in acknowledgement and motioned for me to sit down. She then proceeded to completely demolish the natural shape I have, so that not my brows are not only too thin but completely uneven. I would pay money just too avoid having this happen again. I'm completely upset about this especially because I have interviews coming up and I wanted to look put together. read more

I'm not sure how their womens' cuts are, but I suspect they mainly deal with women. I'm a man in my 20s and must say that I was not impressed at all. A "fast" haircut is something I've always enjoyed, but a haircut can be too fast. It lasted for about 5 minutes, and it looked like it took her 2 minutes. The problem was attention to detail. As I'm writing this I can feel the long hairs behind and in front of my ears that she left behind. She also left long hairs in the front. The lining in the back is crooked and the hair on the back of my neck is still there even though she asked if I wanted it removed. Maybe 1 star is a bit critical, but the price does not justify the cut. 15$ for a 5 minutes cut is not worth it - especially for the lack of detail. I will not be returning. read more
