I waited a couple of months before posting a review. I wanted to see how my hair would look and feel after some time. I went in for my appointment in June and my hair still looks awesome! The color is great, my hair is soft, and I still receive compliments! I went in for a full balayage with an auburn color. The warm color has faded, of course, but I have a nice golden color now. f I could give this haircut a -100 stars, I would. I have been a loyal client of Jen's for years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I intentionally waited over a year to cut my hair because I wanted a fresh, well-shaped style from someone I trusted. Unfortunately, instead of receiving a haircut, it feels like my hair was simply chopped. The cut is uneven, lacks shape and blending, and does not resemble what I requested. I left the salon feeling frustrated and disappointed. Everyone can have an off day, but the quality of this haircut was far below the standard I had come to expect after years of being her client. I am sorry to leave this review but I think it's important, as my experience was really disappointing. I booked appt with Jen twice (over 6 months apart) and only went once. Both times my appointment was cancelled at 10 p.m. on a Friday with appt being on Saturday morning (last time by an auto text - no explanation, suggested reschedule time or anything else). Jen doesn't answer her messages for days (or sometimes at all) so it's impossible to get hold of her and confirm the cancellation or reschedule. When she finally responded, she was apologetic so I decided to give this another chance and after a week of back and forth we managed to find a time to reschedule - only for this one to be cancelled on the day again - this time I didn't even get an automated message, let alone a personal one. She didn't even bother to let me know. I got a haircut + toner in the appt that did happen and it was ok (therefore 2 stars vs 1), but nothing out of this world or worth the headache and stress that this caused me. The price point is definitely high and on par with if not higher than other salons that treat me as a valued customer, so I went elsewhere. read more

Awful management skills and customer service. Reading the reviews, it sounds like a common occurrence. Which is sad, because you won't last long working this way. This is long over due, but I made an appointment for Saturday so get my hair done before graduation picture and she CANCELED on me last minute because she was "sick" ( I am putting quotes because I don't actually believe her" . I contacted her multiple times to reschedule and she NEVER responded to me. I think it is completely rude to cancel the day before and not contact the client afterwards. I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but because she never responded to any of my texts nor did she respond to the online inquires, I realized she doesn't have any common business management sense. And all of this seems ironic considering she probably would have charged my credit card if I canceled on her. read more

This is my first time going to Jen for any hair service. I have had a balayage twice previously but wasn't able to find a stylist who could counteract the orange/ red tones in my dark chocolate/auburn hair. I drove an hour for Jen to do my balayage and it was SO worth it. She was able to get me to my goal hair in one sitting without causing any damage. I asked to keep my dark roots, and lighten the ends with cool & neutral pieces which is exactly what she did. I really hate to leave a bad review because Jen does have a talent, but there are basic business management & customer service etiquette that needs much improvement; TLDR I saw Jen for the first time after finding her profile on IG. I was super excited to book my appointment and get my hair to the icy, ashy blonde I've always wanted but other stylists could never achieve. I messaged Jen I would be about 10 min late but didn't receive a response. When I arrived to my appointment she was still with her previous client, so she told me it worked out I was late. I didn't mind at first because I was initially running behind, but it did raise a red flag when another 30 min later I was still waiting to be seen. I brushed it off as things happen and schedules get crazy. My hair looked amazing and Jen instructed me to make sure I came back within 6-8 weeks to have it toned and freshened up to remove any brassy tones and really make it pop. I pre booked my appointment out with Jen directly after my service and thrilled for the follow up. The day for my second appointment, I received an automated message from Jen's booking system that my appointment had been canceled. No personal message or details followed. I had to follow up 2x with Jen to get a response, which she finally replied hours later that she had been feeling under the weather and cancelled out her week. She also said she would work with my schedule to get me in on a new appointment. I rebooked online and waited for my confirmation. I received another automated message that my new rebooked date was cancelled again, as Jen did not confirm the date on her booking site. I messaged her and rebooked again. Same thing occurred. She finally told me that she would not be in on the dates I had booked, although available on her page. When I tried to work with her to get a date she was really inflexible to work with me, considering she originally said she would work to get me in ASAP. The booking page she uses is only valid if she books it on her personal calendar, basically making it a guessing game for customers. Jen is unresponsive and unable to make things work for the customer after explicitly telling me I needed to see her in a period of time to really make my hair look its best. It was incredibly inconsiderate that I even took work off on the day my appointment was cancelled and she couldn't work with me to get me in. Now I'm stuck trying to find another stylist to work off her dye job and pray for the best. For the prices being charged I would expect that I would be treated as a valued customer. I really tried to give Jen the benefit of the doubt and be patient over the 2 weeks trying to reschedule. The fact that she just stopped responding to me when I tried to work out a schedule is just rude and not how you run a business. read more

Got my hair done with Jen in I want to say April, When I got there she got there about almost 2 HOURS late ! She did my hair in 2 hours which was great due to the fact that I usually last about 5 hours in a salon to lift and what not.. anyways i asked for a cut I didnt notice she cut much.. Mind you her cuts are expensive.. anyways so leaving the salon 550 dollars later my hair felt good ididnt think she would lift me so high in such little time .. after showering my hair was BREAKING it was so fragile I then messaged her what mask I could use no respond. Honestly I looked at many places and did some research before making my decision to go to Jen. And I can honestly say I'm so glad I did!! First off the salon is A-mazing, a building with many artists, it's basically a little beauty community. Jen herself is so welcoming and has great hospitality. Her suite is a rustic, chic. She is young and modern and has a lot of knowledge on what she is doing. When I first went to her for a consult, I immediately felt confident and comfortable that she knew what she was doing and how to achieve the look I was asking for. I had scheduled myself for a full revamp. I had damaged hair from bleaching and wanted a whole new look, from brown to blonde. I know I was there for at least 4 hours hours but it flew by so fast. She is so kind and a great person to talk to and if you have any questions she's more than happy to answer them. But if you just want to go and relax and even dose off a bit , she's totally okay with that too. As a mom of 4, it's definitely relax time for me! She just works away in her mode while you relax. The shampooing was fantastic and to me that's a VERY important part! At the end the final result was Phenomenal!!! I really can't thank her enough! I mean I get sooo many compliments and my hair is soo much more manageable then before. I went from brown to achieving a natural blonde look that I'm beyond happy with! I can't stop looking at my hair and playing with it. It's softer,healthier. She didn't fry my hair and I never expected my hair to lift as well as she got it to. Amazing!!! Jen has been doing my hair for the last couple of years and she is amazing! While she is known for her blonde icy tones, I have dark brown hair and she never fails me! Her balayage skills are unreal, seriously the best blending EVER, which I had always struggled with past stylist. I have gone back to her for toning, touch ups, treatments, cuts, etc. and my hair always leaves more healthy and gorgeously colored! Most recently I've had her take me "back to my roots" to a beautiful true dark brown for that fall fall and as always, I'm in love! Jen did an amazing job! I've never been so in love with my hair! I've gone to many hair stylists in the past and "good ones" too, where I had to pay a lot for unwanted results. I finally got to my ultimate hair goal which was to go from brown to blonde in one sitting. I've tried to do that with my past hair stylists but they would always tell me that it would take up to 2-3 sessions, preventing me from actually doing it because it's a lot of time and money for each session. She did not kill my hair btw. It still looks and feels healthy. As you can see in the picture. I would recommend calling a day off of work or school or maybe making some time for about 4-5 hours( it honestly depends on your hair, but that's how long it took me.) it might seem like a long time but it's worth it! The first time I saw Jen was when she was working at the Rouge Salon in Redwood City. It was the first time I got my hair cut in two years (after I attempted to trim my own hair) and she managed to make a masterpiece out of it. She corrected the uneven areas, and made my hair look healthy again! The second time I saw Jen was today, and she took a few inches off of my hair to restore its health. It took me years to grow my hair out, so I am very particular with who works on my hair. Jen will actually listen to you, and if you say you want to keep your length and only cut a couple inches off, that's exactly what she will do! I have had the worst experience with Jen. I schedule my appointment with Jen back on February 9th for my wedding. My hair appointment was scheduled for Saturday, May 18th. I chose a Saturday because I work Monday through Friday's. I got a text message @12:46AM the day of my hair appointment that it was cancelled. I randomly woke up @3am and saw this and I was so stressed out wondering why she cancelled my appointment and I didn't sleep until 6:30AM! My wedding is in 2 weeks and I had no one to do my hair! I waited until the morning to call her to see why she cancelled my appointment without any explanation. She did not respond to my 4 phone calls and many texts. It is impossible to get ahold of her! She finally texts me back explaining why cancelled my appointment. She said that she'd accommodate me in anyway. If this was true, she would try to work around my schedule. She tried to schedule me on a Thursday, when I clearly told her MULTIPLE times that I work Monday through Friday! The only days I was free was weekends. She said she only works 1 Saturday a month. So if you cancelled my Saturday appointment, that means that you could work another Saturday to make up for the one you cancelled. She has yet to reply back. I can't wait around for her reply. I am running out of time! She has provided one of the worst customer services I've ever experienced from a hair stylist. Thank you, Jen, for causing me stress right before my wedding! I didn't post this because I felt badly to comment a negative thing about a newly hair stylist. And because Jen is a sweet person. Although the pictures of my hair looked great when she took the photos, the aftermath was a disaster. I decided to comment now after seeing more people give my first review a thumbs up. My hair became completely destroyed. So much hair fell out. I kid you not. So. Much. Hair. It was to the point where it was concerning and I literally thought I was going bald. (I know I wasn't but I've never seen THAT much hair fall out of a hair dyeing session). She says she specializes in one sitting which made me want to go to her to achieve that ashy-tone hair I always wanted. I got it. But I lost so much hair, had so much hair damage, my hair was dyed unevenly. There were pieces of platinum blonde more deep inside my hair compared to the outside parts, as well as my "bangs" (I will explain this below). Mind you, I have relatively dark hair. A dark, dark brown hair, so having platinum on certain areas of my hair in just one sitting is very concerning on how harsh she treated my hair. And I did not even want to go platinum, I wanted a soft ashy color. In the first couple of pics where I look blonde, especially where it's just a view of my upper corner of head, you can see where my bangs frizz out. They're very short blonde hairs. And that's because they broke. I never had bangs. The one sitting dyeing completely broke my hair and made it so thin, and I have very thick hair. The other pictures are of my old hair with one being a recent one on how my hair is doing now. I will caption it in the pics to make it more clear. All in all, Jen is a great person, her technique in just one sitting though is concerning. I will NEVER do that again. Ever. No matter how cheap it may be. I rather spend $800-$1000 to be an ashy-blonde than go through just one sitting. However, I plan to, FOR A LONG GOOD WHILE, to not be that light again after that experience. read more

She took my awful box dyed red hair to a beautiful blonde in the first session and since then, I have been visiting her every 8 weeks or so for a toner touch up to keep the brassy hair away. I now have beautiful natural-looking blonde hair and I know when I go to her I can say "do your thing" and she delivers beautiful hair to me. I understand there are folks complaining that she might not get back asap, but I hope they can also understand that she is just a person like everyone else! I got a haircut done by Jen a while back after seeing her work on Instagram & it was hands down the best one I've ever gotten. I have long hair and I love having lots of layers but a lot of the times when I ask for layers I end up with just a few making my long hair look pretty plain.
