I'll start by saying that this was the first time I've been to a beauty salon since I was a kid. I had locs for 15yrs and recently cut them off. I've been keeping my sides shaved and letting the top grow out. I was looking for a change up but my top fro was too short for most people I asked about braiding it. Other places I contacted on yelp didn't even message me back. Lanese responded on yelp very quickly and we set up a consult to make sure she could do what I asked. Once we determined she could grip my short hair, we scheduled an appointment. She let me know her preferred products and I was happy to get the right stuff for the job. A few days before the appointment I requested an earlier time slot and although she could not accommodate my request, she listened to my needs and the next day offered me the time slot I wanted on the day after our original appt date (someone else had cancelled). I was happy that she was so communicative in the process. The whole braid took about 3.5 hours. She was great in my head, I was afraid I'd be tender headed not having braids for over 15 years. I've worn my head completely bald for the past 15 years and swore I would never grow it back. For whatever reason, five months ago I decided that I wanted crochet braids and let my hair grow out. I was so nervous that they may not look right on me, be too big, or cumbersome. I did my research and found Lanese on Yelp. The photos of her work were diverse and showed perfection. Her reviews on customer service were high. I was surprised that I was able to book an appointment with her within a week. I loved that she works out of a shop. I also appreciated her willingness to guide me on what brand and texture of hair would give me my desired look. If I wore her out with text messages and phone calls Lanese never let on. Her suggestions were spot on! I am in love with my hair! The installation was quick! An hour and a half. I had no more than two inches of hair all around and Lanese was able to catch it without putting too much tension on my hair. She was very gentle, but the braids are secure. I'm a DIY'er and haven't been to a hair salon in years. I saw crochet braids on YouTube and had to investigate the process for my vacation. I feel lucky to have found Lanese, she is polite, engaging and very professional. The salon is called The Hair Republic, it's modern and clean with plenty of parking. The Barber Shop is in the front part of the shop with the main salon further inside. It's busy but not noisy. Upon arrival I was offered a drink and a slice of lemon cake. Lanese is fast! I was in and out in under 3 hours. She works quickly and while I am tender headed, I left tear free and could still smile without pain. This style took less than three bags but once completed appeared GIGANTIC, Chaka Khan big, I mean serious Diana Ross hair! going to take some getting used to but will look festive during my Caribbean Cruise as crochet braids were the recommended snorkeling hair,( wish me luck!) For me Lanese is really as good as it gets when it comes to giving the customer a satisfying visit. She is more than kind and also professional. She spoke to me about products and answered questions that I had about natural hair. I love how motivated she is to learn about what's new and trending in the hair industry, showing me how willing she is to learn, grow, and expand her craft. Not only is she the sweetest, "like pie," but she actually did an amazing job on my hair. The braids were not too tight and my hair was how I like it (full). I came to Lanese because I struggle with the heaviness/too tight braids so I usually stay away, but really wanted a protective style to hold me over while in school and working. I told her I needed them to be light weight, not super tight, but still look full and cute . My inspiration picture was Zoe Kravitz style braids. Lanese gave me exactly what I asked for! Here I am two days later and no headaches, I'm able to sleep comfortably already and I didn't even have to wait that normal period for my braids to loosen up! This review is sooo long overdue (I'm so sorry, Lanese!). I will proceed to tell you exactly why you should do business with Lanese. 1. She's comfortable to be around - If you want to talk she's totally willing and good at making conversation. In most of the braid shops I've been to, the staff would talk in a different language and only address you when they have a question. This awkward silence was not fun for 5+ hours, so I really enjoyed how I could easily speak with Lanese and it helped the time pass quicker for me. But, if you prefer silence, she respects that and will let you be in peace while she works. She's super polite, professional, and has a wonderful personality! - Also, it's not just her. Everyone in the shop (It's called The Hair Republic) are so kind and courteous. I felt a little like I was becoming a part of the family by the time I left, haha. The entire place is welcoming and the shop itself has a very positive, clean environment. :) 2. She's good at what she does - Lanese knows what she is doing and she shows this knowledge in her work. YOUR HAIR WILL LOOK AMAZING!! Before I found out about Lanese I got my hair braided somewhere else and those braids were so poorly done that they started looking bad and falling out in about a month. I got individual braids done by Lanese and they still look good a little over 2 months later! She also gave great advice on how to take care of my hair. 3. Can you beat her prices?
