I was really looking forward to getting my hair done after letting it grow out during quarantine. I asked for an ash-blonde money piece balayage and even had a video as an example. I've never met someone with such TERRIBLE customer service. I understand it's been hard for everyone because of the pandemic so I tried to be as pleasant as possible but she really took advantage of my kindness. After she finished washing my hair, I realized the front 2 pieces were looking really yellow and were significantly lighter than the rest of my highlights. She started saying it's because my hair is still wet and it'll look better after she dries it. And surprise surprise it did not get better. I kept mentioning that the color was off and not blended but she insisted that she did an even better job blending my hair than the person from the video. At that point I started believing her because she was so confident and persistent but now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I was manipulated. Fast forward, I paid and tipped her because I didn't want to be terrible. This morning I took a proper look at myself and I just couldn't. I know it's not possible to get the exact hair from a picture but this ain't it. I called her to ask if she can fix my hair and she started blaming me for wanting a balayage instead of an ombré. I don't understand how that has anything to do with having blended hair because I'm 100% sure you can have an even balayage. She even had the audacity to tell me to pay her more to fix it. So clearly I refused and told her I'd do it myself. The best part is she calls me again, tells me to hold, hangs up, AND NEVER CALLED BACK. I just wanted a nice balayage but got GASLIGHTED and a whole e-girl makeover (it looks great on others just not me). Thanks Lynn. read more

Our hair is part of us, part of our expression. I had a traumatic hair experience back in august of this year and I finally built up the guts to try someone new as my hair was in desperate need of a trim. Thus I turned to Yelp and found Lynn. Sure, I saw a few of the negative reviews but there were so many more positive ones so I gave her a go. When I first called to make an appointment for balayage and cut and asked pricing, she said she couldn't tell me until she sees my hair. The red flag went up but I ignored it. I mean, would you get a boob job, plastic surgery, manicure, hamburger without knowing the price range first? Even if you don't want to give a firm price, give me a range at least...right? So I get in her chair and she seems nice. After some talking I feel like, "This might be alright after all." WRONG! After she blow dried she immediately curled my hair instead of showing me the haircut. Even with curling I could see the choppy uneven layers. She kept saying that it was due to my previous haircut. Anyway I go home and after washing my hair, my fears are confirmed- she chopped my hair. I texted her, and to her credit, she told me to come in. She starts snipping and then after a few minutes, as if in frustration, she starts cutting the choppy pieces straight across, as in cutting them shorter instead of blending them. I explicitly said to her, "You just cut my hair shorter, I saw you cut across." Instead of owning up to her error or ineptitude, she states that it's the fault of the prior haircut. Lady, YOU just cut my hair even shorter, YOU did that. Where am I, crazy town?! She keeps saying, "Oh just let it grow out." At this point I want to just run out before I explode. She takes off the drape and pats my shoulder...the nerve! YOU, as another woman, should understand how much hair is part of our being. YOU do a horrible job and have the nerve to pat my shoulder?! I leave and sit in my car for a few minutes in disbelief. I can't believe that she just let me leave her chair looking a mess. Does she have no pride in her work? I can't believe she tried to take me on a tour of crazy town and I almost let her. How can she blame this crazy haircut on the prior haircut?! Madness. I go back and ask for my money back so I can use it to have someone else fix it. She still wants to live in crazy town and blame the prior haircut. She starts acting hurt and angry. She only gives me back $50 of the $240 I paid for cut and color. So I paid for crappy cut and color and will have to pay more to hopefully get it fixed AND I get to walk around feeling fugly. Lynn is amazing! I love how she's hardworking, caring, and GENUINE. She pays close attention to what we want and gives the best suggestions as to what we should do to our hair. Yesterday was my third time coming to Lynn. My first time was around November of 2016. Honestly, I was completely clueless on how I wanted my hair to be exactly but I knew I wanted something like a highlight balayage kind of thing. Basically, she gave me some options and I chose from it. It turned out very nice! That was my very first time getting my hair done professionally so to be quite honest, I wasn't used to the change. But my friends all loved my hair so it made me feel happy (and have no regrets)! :) During my winter break (which was around beginning of January), I went back in to get my hair toned. (Toning is very important to get rid of the orange color)! I knew I wanted to get my hair toned but she asked me whether I wanted a lighter or darker toning. I didn't know. But, because I think at one point I told Lynn that I live out of town because of school, she suggested that I should go darker for two reasons. 1. It'll make the highlights seem more subtle (which I personally prefer!) and 2. I wouldn't have to come back as often to get it toned. She told me that the next time I should come back is summer time which was a huge plus for me! To me, that meant I wouldn't have to come down as often and I get to save money too. (Here, she was thinking about me more than herself). Throughout the months, I was just in love with my hair and the color. Third time (august 2017) I came in for a retouch on my roots and toning. In short, I love how it came out. :) All three experiences were great! I'm planning to stick with Lynn for a while! In terms of the prices, I PERSONALLY think it's a bit pricier, BUT only because I'm an (almost broke) college student. However, I do see it as fair in the long run! It's nice to invest in yourself and treat yourself to some nice hair. I never had any regrets on spending money on hair at Lynn's! Overall, definitely TRUST in Lynn! She does great things! Im over 30 years old and yet to find a hair stylist that I really enjoy but Lynn may just be the one. Since having my daughter late last year I haven't really paid much attention to my hair. She really values what you want and yet puts in her best and honest opinion. During our brief consultation after I sat down on her chair, it felt like she was reading my mind. One thing she does that's great is she'll write down the price of each service ($50 haircut, $65 toner refresh) before starting so there aren't any surprises at the end. I went in for a haircut and toner refresh, I believe the entire process took 1.5-2 hours. Lynn is so good at what she does. She really puts her whole undivided attention to you and your hair. I had previously tried to get an ombré done by a stylist out in Rowland. Instead of doing what I asked, she put big chunky yellow highlights all over my hair. After saving up money, and doing my research, I came across Lynn on yelp. My first time in, she toned my hair and dyed it the same color. Even though I wanted my hair to have more contrast (aka more blonde) she didn't want to ruin my hair and she recommended that I wait (which I appreciate!!!). I got a root touch up on my bayalage colored hair and toned it. The process altogether took about 1 hour and 45 minutes. She stayed way over time to fit me in. Her location is in a nice, clean, big salon where you don't have to worry about smelling all the chemicals one may expect in a smaller salon. My girl called Lynn after getting the run around and brush off from a local salon here in Monrovia. She is SO glad she did. Lynn, unlike the other salon wouldn't give her an estimate based on pictures. She stated she needed to see the damage and access the color correction in person before she could give a price. Got a haircut by Lynn this past weekend and am so completely happy that I found her! I've been growing my hair out for the past three years and had Lynn cut off 10 inches for a long inverted bob. Although the initial cut was great, I didn't realize how much work blowing out a bob would be, so a few days later I went back and asked her to help me figure out a way to make the cut a little easier to take care of. My hair is really thick and I basically have zero hair maintenance skills (didn't even have a blowdryer until the day after this haircut)--Lynn was super patient throughout the whole process and spent an hour thinning out my hair so that it's at a point where I can manage it. A lot of stylists don't take the time to really make sure you love the haircut, especially at a follow-up appointment, but Lynn really knows and cares about what she's doing. I don't recommend coming to Lynn for a balayage. Those Yelp pics had me fooled! My results were first invisible and she told me that after a few washes, the highlights and colors would be more visible. Well she's right-now there are brassy looking small strips dispersed throughout my hair, really not cute or pretty. It was my first time getting a balayage and from everything I heard about it, I knew it would take a long time at the salon. But she competed the entire process in about two and a half hours, which by all accounts isn't right. I'm honestly not sure what she did wrong but I know it took too little time. Also, I know my hair doesn't look good right now. There are small, thin streaks of bleached hair which looks super brassy. So, sigh. It's ok, it's just hair. I'll just have to find someone else to correct the colors. It was my first time going to Lynn and also my last. read more

I started coming to Salon Viva because of Lynn Phan. She has recently relocated there, having formerly worked at Pecha Hair Salon (which closed due to illness). Lynn is fantastic! I've been going to her for seven years now -- I mean, my gosh, the woman has watched me go gray! I moved to the valley a couple of years ago and tried finding someone to cut my hair up there, but just couldn't find anyone as good as Lynn. I now drive 45 minutes for her expertise! Time after time she has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Once she met me at the salon at 7:00 in the morning to do my hair for an early photo shoot! The salon itself is very modern and clean :) also I ultimately left my hair in Lynn's hands since I've never been to her or had any pictures. All I said was that I still want to be an ashy brunette and take out the brass, and she went w it! The process is very long, took me from 11-3:30 to finish the whole process (no cut, just color) but I'm really happy w the results.
