I moved to Arizona from California and have only been here a little over a year and I just could not find a good hairdresser in the Rimrock/Lake Montezuma/Camp Verde area. I have tried four hairdressers before I came across Maya in Camp Verde. I get my hair cut and colored once a month. I have short dark brown hair with sassy blonde highlights on top. In California, they always redid my blonde highlights every month when I came in for a color. Maya had a totally different approach. One that had NEVER been offered to me in the 30 years I have been dying my hair. She wanted my hair to be super healthy -- what a concept. She didn't want my blonde to get too damaged, so she bleaches my blonde EVERY THIRD TIME I come in and in between, she puts my blonde highlights in foils with conditioner to keep it healthy and then washes out my brown color first before unwrapping the foils to keep my blonde highlights shining through. One of the previous hairdressers in Camp Verde, did not want to do my blonde highlights because they were so dry but when she rinsed out my hair, the brown color got on my blonde hair and my highlights were gone. Not only does Maya do an outstanding haircut and get this, does what you want, but truly cares about the health of your hair. I am so happy that I went through what I went through to find Maya. I know how difficult it is to please everyone and that sometimes we as clients think we know more than the person behind the chair; hence, when shopping for a new stylist one has to read between the lines when reading reviews. Like, we can't always have the cut we want because we don't have the hair that makes that cut possible...as was the case with me today. I needed to find someone local after moving from the valley. I found Maya here on Yelp and liked her qualifications, so I reached out and she immediately made time for me on rather short notice (which I appreciate). I am so upset writing this review. I had Maya cut my hair once before, and I told her just to follow my original haircut, not a problem. This was my 2nd haircut by her, and I told her the same thing. I want to keep it long, just trim. She took it upon herself to put 4" layers on the top of my hair. I felt my stomach clench as I saw literally chunks of my hair on the ground around me. By far, the worst haircut of my life. I blow dried it straight to take a closer look, it isn't even. One side layers in the front are shorter than the other side. I also had her cut my son's hair. Big mistake. When I texted her about her work she said "When it grows out, it should soften." She cut sideways and anything she could grab. Isn't a haircut supposed to look good WHEN you leave? Not after a few months? Luckily, I am in Los Angeles for work and going to have my haircutter of the previous ten years fix it. If you are looking to book with her, run. read more

I moved to Sedona a month ago from San Diego. I never thought I could find an expert hair stylist once I left. I thought I'd be running to some major city every month for a color or cut or both. My dream was to find someone local who would listen and deliver extremely natural looking results . I needed a good eye for color because I'm trying to blend gray with blonde. Maya was immediately attentive and Her easy manner helped me relax. She took her time and we chatted until both of us felt good. Then the artist disappeared to mix up the multiple colors to blend into my very big head of hair!
