If you are looking for a fabulous colorist, look no further than Rebecca at AP Luxe! She was…read morefantastic, talking me through lots of options for color, including highlights, low lights, full color, roots, gloss, different blends etc. She very respectfully directed me away from the color I originally thought I wanted, explaining to me why it wouldn't actually look good with my skin tone and would be difficult to maintain. She mixed a custom color just for me and I have gotten non-stop compliments since!! Then I got my makeup done with Shayna since I was going to get new headshots taken. Shayna did an outstanding job with my makeup, asking to see photos and info about the photographer before starting to make sure the end result would be perfect. She really listened to my preferences, including being extra careful with my eyes since I wear contacts and choosing only the best products for sensitive skin. The makeup looked gorgeous and the photographer said she wants to send everyone to Shayna before headshots :)

For the highlights my only ask to the stylist was to do it in a way that would look good when my hair grew out. I'm currently pregnant and knew I wouldn't be able to go back for a touch up for some time. Two months after I got the highlights I had noticed it was growing in very blocky. A few coworkers pointed it out and encouraged me to reach back out to the salon to touch it up. They reminded me that it was not worth what I paid and I should get it fixed. I emailed the salon and their response was they could book me a touch up appointment with no discount. That because we were out of the one week window they were not willing to do anything. Very disappointed! I was hoping to be a long term client.

Love Milvali Salon! I've been coming here since it opened in 2004. All the staff are friendly,…read morekind, warm and welcoming. The aestheticians are professional and skillful. I often come in without an appointment and I'm always accommodated and I receive top notch treatment. I highly recommend this local community business. It's a slice of Mill Valley that I value highly. Thank you Milvali for being the best in Marin!

Milvali salon feels more like a assembly line chop shop vs high end salon experience. I've had two…read moreservices here and both fell short. I had a haircut here, which I ended up waiting for the stylist for over an hour. When she finally saw me she said it was bc some scraggly haired woman with her extensions came in last minute demanding she fix her hair, and so she spent hours re bonding (or whatever the term is?) the hair. I'm not trying to be mean here, but the woman had very fine blonde hair that was bob length and got hair down to her waist. My aside here is ...ladies...can we just love what we have and maybe do any enhancements in moderation instead of totally going overboard with the extensions down to our tushies?! And, yes, I was rightfully upset bc I had an appt and this woman did not, yet I had to wait for my scheduled service?? Totally doesn't make sense. The kicker was when I told the stylist she should have rescheduled me if she was going to be so late, and her response was that she didn't want to lose another customer that day. Welp, she definitely lost me as a customer, because I'd never go back to her. The cut was okay but overall a mind boggling experience and a waste of my time. The other experience I had was getting a facial from an aesthetician. I specifically let her know I didn't want any animal tested or animal products on my skin. And yet, she slapped collagen on my face (and it wasn't marine collagen). She also didn't do any arm or neck massage, which is odd because with all the facials I've had at other places, I've always had a light massage while a mask is on my face. When I asked about the massage, the aesthetician said she leaves the room while my mask is on vs doing a massage. Additionally, she kept using the term "anti-aging", despite me sharing that I'm not against what natural process happens to us all, and I don't like language that makes us hate a natural process. I think (especially in a spa or salon setting) there are far more positive terms we can use to describe caring for our skin. Rejuvenating, refreshing, aging with grace, naturally enhancing...sounds far more from a place of love and acceptance for ourselves than "anti-aging". From both of these less than par experiences, my take away was that I was in a low caliber salon, and not a specialized, leveled up establishment. It's been a year and I haven't returned, nor would I recommend this place to others.

I've been seeing Shay for 10 years now, and just adore this new salon. It's in such a great spot and the parking is amazing. She was so accommodating to me being a few months postpartum with my babe in tow. My mom was able to walk around with him (lots to check out nearby!) and when he needed to nurse, Shay & all of the ladies made me feel comfortable to do so while I was processing. I got partial highlights. when I went up to the register, I thought I booked for $195 and was charged $215 base price and gave a tip. When I got home, I checked my booking and double checked the website again and both said $195. I contacted the owner, Ashley, and she said "I'm so sorry I'll fix the website." No mention of a refund for $20. I emailed her again asking for a $20 refund and no response. As a repeat customer and only asking to be charged for what I booked, I expected a better response. I'll be looking for another salon.
