I found this salon when I first came to Fresno and sat behind a woman with a beautiful cut in a theater and asked her where she got her haircut. If you're on a budget or going to an event then this is perfect. However if you want to wear lash extensions long-term I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a high tolerance. I loved the way my eyelashes looked but they watered and burned for a good 30 minutes after application and they itched constantly until they fell off. I now go to a more expensive studio where my lash artist uses and instant dry spray and doesn't let me leave until the burning has stopped knowing my eyes are sensitive. They never itch or burn or swell and personally that's worth the extra $40 or so. But if you're on a budget and your eyes sent sensitive then this place does good work. read more

Talented hair stylists and mariah also does great lashes. Ive been going to her for years. I travel almost 3 hours each direction to have Pawnee do my hair. I started using her while temporarily in the area and now don't want to have anyone else do it. It took a few times to get the color right, but it's now perfect. She is the only stylist that has ever cut my hair exactly as I want it. She does a fabulous cut. Just show her a picture and she can do it. Could not recommend any higher. She's worth the money and the effort to have her do my hair. Luv you, Pawnee! read more

I went to Angie for a year for my monthly cut and color. She's a great stylist. She always listened to what I wanted and trimmed and colored my hair to perfection. She's also really sweet and personable. The problem I had was with the owner. She's a youngish, single gal who would regale the entire salon with stories about her boyfriends and dates. She stopped seeing this guy because he wouldn't pay for this or that. She dropped some dude because he was ugly. Another guy she ditched because although he was intelligent and kind, he didn't drive a nice car. Once her car broke down and she flirted wildly with the motorist who stopped to help her. Blah, blah, blah. Whenever she was there I felt as if I was an unwitting participant in a tacky girls night out. The last time I was there Angie asked me if it would be ok for the owner to wax my brows while she went in the back to mix my color. I didn't see the problem with that. Until the lady waxed me bald. I could tell she's taken of way too much brow when the strip coming off hurt like hell. Sure enough, when I looked in the mirror it looked as if I had six or seven hairs left in my left brow. She must of known I was horrified because she immediately said, "Oh, it's ok. You can go to Long's next door and buy an eyebrow pencil." What? I was then faced with a difficult decision: Should I live with lopsided brows for two months until the left side grows back, or do I let her take off the right brown and hope the ladies at the Shiseido counter at Macy's can help me? In the end I chose the later and had to plunk down $20 for and learn to use a brown pencil. I never really got the hang of it, so for two months I looked like Bette Davis in What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. If you're reading this Angie, and you still work there, get out and get out now. You deserve to work in a much better salon. read more

I've had the same issue here with eyebrow waxing. I need to get cleaned up every now and then so that I don't look like I have a giant Amazonian caterpillar crawling across my forehead. Well, being that I often don't learn a lesson....I was badly scarred at this location, not once, twice, but 3 times! Each time, it was with a different person and they made the wax too hot and ripped off nice chunks of flesh along with my eyebrow fur. STAY CLEAR OF THIS TORTURE CHAMBER!! read more

I have to agree with the other reviews here regarding the owner. It's either you love her and think she is funny or you find her annoying. Either way, you have to respect her. She says what she thinks and neither cares what you think nor needs your business. She has a ton of clients and makes a very good living. I've found her to be overbearing at times but she is just a loud mouth. So what...no big deal. I think she is quite funny most of the time but then she does get personal and asks questions that are inappropriate at best. But most of my reviews are inappropriate so I get it. :) I love Sammantha. Actually most of the chicks Pawnee has working for her are cute and sweet. Young and nubile..ha ha. Ok, I am going elsewhere with this fast. Back on track, down boy down! In all seriousness here is the deal. I started coming here because I was trying to find someone to do a bald fade. I've been coming here since I moved from the Bay area to Fresno. I have found that only black guys can do a really good bald fade. Well being that I didn't want to go all the way to downtown Fresno whenever I wanted a haircut, I asked these ladies. Pawnee assured me that she and her staff could certainly do a bald fade the way I wanted it. Now I have dated a hairdresser and even she couldn't do it and she was a corporate trainer for like Paul Mitchum or something like that. However the chicks at Hair Central can do a mean bald fade! Sam does a great job so does Pawnee. There are 2 or 3 other ladies there that are just as good. I was succumb to the idea that women cannot do a bald fade but this little asian woman can! Love her for that! Pawnee, if you are reading this you can figure out who this is. They closed at 6:30pm not 7pm. We wanted to try Hair Central after reading the reviews. We got to the parking at 6:20pm and saw that they were still open. So went to Chevron for a quick bite to eat since we have not eating dinner. We were done eating at 6:35pm and went to Hair Central and they were closed. Me, my husband and kids have been going to Hair Central for awhile. We only go to Panee and she is fantastic! She is very knowledgable and an expert on cutting and coloring hair. I use to pay ALOT at the Spectrum but I get the same results but at a more reasonable price at Hair Central. Thanks Panee for always making us look good! : ) read more

I'm giving hair central a 1 for quality of work but their customer service skills definitely a 5. The owner is super sweet, hilarious the only thing I wasn't satisfied with is the girls working there, reminds me of Supercuts and seems like they have very little experience. I asked for layers and they're soooo choppy, didn't blend at all. I ended up playing triple the price to go get them fixed. I wish the owner took more time training these girls or finding some with more experience. read more

I always go to Sam G. I get an A line hair cut and I've gotten it so messed up at other places. She is friendly and can carry a good conversation. I think the price of the hair cut is stellar for what you get. I think I paid 25 last time I went in, including the tip. If you care about quality then you should come here. read more

I really love Hair Central! They're always very friendly and you feel right at home. The owner is the sweetest and she knows what will work and what won't. Sam G. though, is just amazing! She's a very talented stylist and knows what her clients want, like it's her own hair. My 10-year-old daughter and I have been coming here for quite some time now...in fact, she calls the owner "auntie" and is quite familiar with most of the staff. Don't be swayed by the PAST negative reviews (written more than 7 years ago)! You can tell if a place is good by looking at the VARIETY of clientele! For me and my daughter, coming here is like visiting family. We don't just come in for our haircut...we come in to be in the company of good, down-to-earth people! I don't know what these people are talking about. Panee's salon Hair Central is fabulous. My grandmother goes there EVERY Friday. We relocated from NJ and searched endlessly for someone who could do "the Jersey updo." After countless salons Panee was our answer. Not only can she do a mean Jersey do, but she was way better than Gram's salon in NJ! I have gotten my eyebrows waxed there and they looked fabulous afterwards. We highly recommend going to Hair Central. It's just the right remedy to the cookie cutter salons in Fresno. read more

I've never had my eyebrows done here so I can't say anything there, but I've never had a bad haircut in the ten years or so I've been going here. Yes there is lots of gossip, but it's a salon, what do you expect? Even my fiance complains about the chatter at Sportclips where you're suppose to be able to watch sports in silence while getting a hair cut. It doesn't really bother me. read more

I will not bore you with the long list of unequal hair cuts, horrendous highlights and shapeless eyebrows, that this place has given me and my family. I will get to the point respecting your time. You will get an "eight dollar" quality hair cut here, with attitude and racial remarks from the owner. The owner is a woman in her late 50's, Pony. Who thinks it is her responsibility to give the entire store DETAILS of her pathetic dates. Yaps till you get a headache. And her crew is equally pathetic, talking about Pony behind her back. If you can spend a few extra dollars and do not want to make a late middle age woman's date details the highlight of your day, then go find a better place. Believe me there are great businesses right here in Clovis, who have respect for their customers. I have been so busy with work and family, that I did not look for so long.
