I will never be returning to this salon. The staff is very nice. However, reception is a hit or miss. If you get Stefanie, she's great, kind and warm. If you get anyone else, they're rude. The stylist themselves are fantastic and very nice people. Mgmt however is very cold and does not value loyal customers. I had to cancel my appointment today due to being stuck on a work call. I've been a loyal customer for 3 years now. There was a no understanding from management when it came to the cancellation fee. Also, I was told that I would be charged 50% of the costs of services for the cancellation fee but was charged a 100%. Would not recommend this place. Mgmt over the years has instilled policies to get the most money out of customers - "got ya" type of policies to say it nicely and does not value long term customers. Save yourself grief and find a salon that values your loyalty and has more flexibility. And yes, every visit I did was $200+ in cost so it's not like they didn't make money off of my patronage. ****Attaching the reply from the business owner. I have had many appointments this year and have not cancelled once and we are in June already. I also have all text messages with her staff screenshotted and saved. I have never called her staff names or bombarded them with text messages. Laurie lies through her teeth - my messages today to her staff was in regard to the untrained staff at the receptionist desk that did not know what they were doing and the cancellation fee which I was told was 50% of services but turned out to be a 100%. I called in several times today to advise my status and was yelled at by reception that the salon was busy and backed up. My initial appointment, I called my stylist and was advised he too was running late - to take my time. The left hand doesn't speak to the right hand at this place and again, the owner has the nerve to place the blame on the customer. Word of advice, don't own a business if you don't know how to deliver customer service. By the way my original appt today was at 2 pm not 1:15. Shows how much mgmt keeps up with the business. ***Here I'll post them for you. Reviewers please see the attached. My words are being twisted. The "old lady" comment was one regards to an older woman who works the reception and is very rude and needs more training for her job. I don't remember her name as I m pretty sure I never got it from her. I am pretty good with names. Forgive me for my poor phrasing. However it was definitely not meant with intent to insult. I was describing one of their employees that's always difficult to deal with. Also when I am on time, I am stuck waiting 15-20 minutes for my stylist to be ready to take me. His last client is always running over. I never complained or said anything. Clearly, at Hair Cult the expectation is for the client to be flexible but never management. And three full years of consistent loyalty doesn't matter.

Back of head. Clear issues with blending of highlights. Poor cut in the back.

I'm a new mom and couldn't make it out to my regular salon in the East Village, so I found another Aveda salon in the area. I really liked Henry as a person, but now, a few weeks after the cut and color, I'm increasingly disappointed in the results. The color did not blend well with the color already in my hair and the cut is so choppy that it looks very cheaply done. For $300 plus a 20% tip, I expect far better than this (also, I was quoted $250, but was charged $300). I'm extremely disappointed and a bit embarrassed about how my hair looks and saddened that I wasted so much money. Additionally, they kept pushing getting an extra gloss service on me. My normal Aveda salon never "requires" this step at an extra cost, so it's not an excuse for poor coloring. I definitely won't be returning.

I started coming to Hair Cult for basic cuts a few months back after moving to the area. My first cut was scheduled with Tyler who is an absolute GEM!!! This third time was my first ever balayage/color and he gave me the most perfect natural look. I couldn't be happier with the final result! My hair experiences are consistently enjoyable and worthwhile here!

I spent $325 (without tip) for PARTIAL highlights. This was the first salon I have ever been to where gloss and blow out were not included. This would have been very nice to know so hoping a few readers are aware before going :). Unfortunately I also am not happy with the color, I asked for natural blonde and it is more orange / strawberry (and very brassy) than blonde. To pay that much and not be happy is very disappointing, the most bummed I have ever been with a hair service. Hope everyone else has a better one!

Orange, ugly, and damaged - after requesting blonde highlights and spending $200.00 at Hair Cult Salon...

A waste of time and money. I've never been so displeased with the color of my hair. After two hours and two hundred dollars at Hair Cult last Friday, I now HATE the color of my hair. I would not mind spending a lot of time and money if the color came out well. Before starting, I showed the stylist photos and described exactly what I wanted: face-framing, yellow, brightening, blond painted-on highlights. She said, "no problem." Be upfront - if you can't do something, then you need to voice that before a service NOT after. She also added an unexpected fee (for a gloss) which was never disclosed to me until I was about to pay. I expressed how unhappy I was with the copper red tones that she put in my hair and she said I would have to spend another $110.00 for her to fix what she just did. I detest how it now looks -- dry, orange!, dull, drab, and damaged. Not even close to what I asked for. I would not recommend this stylist or this salon.

It's not often I write a yelp review. Like all, it takes an extreme experience good or bad to compel me. On my part, I'm embracing both because one lead me to the other. I'm happy for a mistake since I arrived at the right place eventually. It's not enough to say that this was the nicest person I'd met in Hoboken (even though she is from N. Bergen shhhh) but I should say that the person I was so lucky to meet must've been the pulse of goodness. To land in the chair of this person after some painful mistakes was a lucky chance for me. I called this salon & in 15 min they were helping me & giving me solutions & options. Such empathy can't be faked. As u will see from my pics I had orange hair. It happened, through error, rough treatment, whatever & it led me to the wonderful stylist. Jenny from Hair Kult. I know it's not what I intended today but maybe I'm going to work the shit out of this color & I look forward to working with her to achieve my most loved style & maintain it. Thank you Jenny. I mean it.

I changed salons a few months ago and started coming to Hair Cult. Friendly staff and great service. I get my hair done by Tyler and he never fails to impress me every time. He does amazing work! Absolutely recommend this salon and Tyler!

I have given this salon several chances over multiple visits because I know finding a salon that…read moreknow how to handle curly hair is challenging, but unfortunately, my experiences have been very inconsistent. For anyone with curly or wavy hair, I would describe the service here as very hit-or-miss when it comes to curly hair. My most recent appointment was especially disappointing. **Haircut** I booked with Michael Bergela, a master stylist, for what was supposed to be a simple trim. Instead, he cut my hair significantly shorter than I requested. This is the shortest my hair has ever been in my life, and I left feeling extremely insecure because short hair is not a look I feel comfortable with. I had clearly expressed that I prefer to keep my length. When I raised my concerns, I was essentially told to go back to the stylist who had previously cut my hair because there was nothing he could do. That response was frustrating considering I had just paid almost $500 and was leaving extremely unhappy with the result. We started with my hair completely wet, which made me nervous, but I tried to trust the process. I asked for my bangs to be blended a little more, and somehow that resulted in a substantial amount of length being removed from the rest of my hair. At the very least, I would have appreciated a warning that this was going to happen. I have seen plenty of people with long hair and bangs, so I still do not understand why so much length needed to be removed. I came in with length that stopped middle of my back and left with shoulder length. **Hair Color** Frank handled my color service. I intentionally wait a long time between appointments to minimize damage, meaning he was working with a significant amount of virgin hair. I explained exactly what I wanted, but after the color was completed and I was sent to be shampooed, Frank left before even seeing the final result or asking whether I was happy with it. I had been in the salon from around 11:00 a.m. until nearly 6:00 p.m., and after all that time, I was disappointed to see noticeable damage and a balayage that looked much thicker and less blended than I had requested. **Styling** Fiona did the initial styling. I have 2C/3A wavy-curly hair, which is not an especially difficult curl pattern to work with. However, my hair was left extremely frizzy with almost no curl definition. It honestly looked like I had rolled out of bed. After spending almost $500, I should not leave feeling like I could have achieved a better result at home. I expressed my concerns to Fiona and specifically pointed out the frizz and lack of curl definition, but she made no effort to correct it and simply LEFT AS WELL. By this point, the salon was nearly empty because most of the stylists had already gone home. It felt like the focus was no longer on providing good service but on getting me out the door. A second person, who I believe may have been an intern or assistant attempted to style my hair. She seemed very nervous, and I genuinely tried to be patient and kind. In fact, I found myself guiding everything how to style wavy/curly hair because I wanted to leave with my hair looking presentable. Michael even handed her a brush that was completely inappropriate for curly hair styling. I really just wanted to take over so I can leave already at this point. I am sharing this experience so that other curly-haired clients can make an informed decision. My most recent appointment left me with hair that was shorter than requested, more damaged than expected, poorly styled, and left me feeling far less confident than when I walked in but the issue wasn't just the hair itself, but how the staff handled my concerns. Instead of anyone taking the time to address my dissatisfaction or attempting to make things right, each person simply left, said there's nothing they can do and to go back to the person that previously cut my hair. I am not the type of person to leave negative reviews but I paid good amount of money and felt very insecure of my hair for days. Hoping I would get used to it but I'm just waiting for my hair to grow back now and doing a lot of hair masks.

Flying into town, I got off the plane with inexplicably big, frizzy hair. Meeting up with a friend…read morelater for drinks, I knew I needed help. I booked "The Works" at Bloom because it had great reviews and was an easy walk from my hotel. For about $100, Jorge put a mask on my hair to smooth it all out, gave me a blowout, and then flatiron curled it. My hair was smooth, curly, and glossy. It looked perfect. One of the first compliments I received when my friend saw me was that he really liked my hair. Jorge came to the rescue. It was well worth the money. The staff was really friendly and the spa modern. I do wish I could add a tip with my card, but I could at least tip him by using Venmo.

White Hart first attracted me because of James. I used to visit James when he was at Sally Hershberger for cuts and keratin, but then when he moved over to a different salon, I stopped going to see him (not because of James, but rather because I found the front desk staff and assistants very rude there and it was impossible to get an appointment). When I heard that James had opened his own salon, I was thrilled. I was able to book an appointment with ease through their easy to use system. White Hart is conveniently located in on 22nd off the A,C,E 23rd street stop. The salon is in the basement but well marked so easy to find and because it isnt right on the street, I found the salon to be quiet - it almost felt a little spa like. Another bonus is that they use R&Co products which I love and unlike some keratin products, the keratin they put on my hair could be washed that same day (although I waited 24 hours). The salon has great sonos speakers and since I was the first appointment of the day, James let me choose the playlist. The best part is that there is a little garden so when I was done with my appointment, I sat outside and finished my coffee and sent some emails. It has been a week and I am very happy with my keratin and cut and have received several compliments. I plan to come back for keratin and also blowouts and cuts.
