Most visits, the music resembles an after-hours nightclub with raunchy lyrics. Today's visit, in the middle of the afternoon, took that to a new level of disgust with one particular song whose lyrics were clear that race and women were being objectified with the use of the N, P, and C words. And at a time when families with young children would be present. The music needs to be changed to something that appears to multiple generations of guests who are there for a relaxing personal experience; lite rock stations would do very well here. Otherwise, turn off the music altogether as what is being played is very offensive. For a positive ... my stylist rocked it as usual with a fantastic haircut. Sadly, I won't return to Hair Cuttery until they get make changes to the music and environment. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. I went in just to get a trim, my hair was down my back and I just wanted an inch or two in off max. I walked in and Sunny took me in. She kept telling me that my hair was dry over and over again and persisted that I get a keratin treatment, over and over again because my hair was so dry. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and told her that I didn't want it too short. She started snipping away, without thinking twice. I had my glasses off so I couldn't see, but I ran my fingers through my damp hair and my heart dropped. MY HAIR WAS TO MY CHIN. I told her that this was too short and showed her the picture again and she said that it looked just like the picture (not at all!!!!) Here is a picture of my hair before and after I came to this place. As you can see from the first picture, my hair was layered evenly. It was also pretty long, I asked the lady to simply give me a trim to get rid of split ends. Apparently a trim to her meant to cut 6 inches of my hair. Not only did she cut my hair incredibly short but she completely messed up my layers. My hair is not even whatsoever. I also had to pay $60 for my service ( cut, blowdry, wash) although they messed it up. How could someone be a "professional" hair stylist with that type of skill? Do not ever come here for a haircut unless you want your hair to be ruined! read more

Went to see a stylist by appointment and everything I asked her to do with my hair she refused to do. I asked for a french roll nope I dont do that, I asked for a red color no you need black, I asked for a relaxer she said not if you already had a relaxer in your hair. I went in with shoulder length hair and walked out with the shortest bob ever with jet black hair even when I suggested maybe a brown because I hate black hair. After paying over $200+ for the best she could do I see this is another place I will never recommend nor return to. I evn asked for the front swoop and ponytail that was not her style. It is no wonder she wanted me to refer folks to her because no one with anything other than what she can do would ever be happy leaving her chair. read more

I used to only go to Bubbles in Fairfax to get my hair cut, but after a few really negative experiences there I decided to try the Hair Cuttery by my house since I only needed a trim. I was weary about walking in and being paired with whomever was available, but was pleasantly surprised. I walked in and waited for about 10 minutes before being greeted by Lira. Lira washed my hair thoroughly and then did a deep conditioning treatment that left my hair feeling good as new. She did an AMAZING job with my trip, cutting off just the right amount. My favorite thing about the entire experience was that at no point did I feel like she was trying to sell me on things. It seems that hairdressers are taking notes out of the used carsalesman playbook so often, trying to push products and additional services on you. It makes me never want to go to a salon. But Lira never did this. She told me what she was using and that was it. Her great service made me feel respected as a client AND happy about my hair. The best of both worlds. I will definitely be coming back in a few months to have my hair cut again. read more

I have to give 2-3 stars overall. Christine does wonderful work - best ever experienced at HC - a 5 star product and service. On the other hand...trying to repeat this has been frustrating. Second visit, she was there but leaving at 2 pm (it was 1:40) ...AND told me that she is now a master stylist and her prices would be more. No biggie, her work is worth much more. OK, so I make an appointment for a couple days later at a time of her choosing. I showed up at appointed time - no Christine. Maybe she doesn't like me or perhaps customers are not valued despite the superior work. In in any event 4-5 stars on performance, but only 1-2 stars on getting that service. read more

Well, I always go in to see Linda because she is patient and caring. She takes her time on your hair cut to ensure perfection. There has not been once that I've had a "bad" haircut. Her patience is what perfects her cuts. She is also very nice. Although her English may not be fluent don't let that deceive you! I gave her a try once and not once regret doing so. Decided to get my hair cut on a whim today since I was at a neighboring store. Showed her a picture of what I wanted and it came out nothing like it. My bangs were so chopped and uneven that I am currently sitting in another salon waiting to have them fixed. I have never had a bad hair cut and after experiencing this I will never go back to a Hair Cuttery ever again. I liked the rest of the cut just not the bangs which was why I wanted to get my hair cut in the first place. OH!!!! And they charged me an extra $10 for "long hair". Jen, the store's team leader, is amazing. She really knows her stuff and really understands me. She knows cuts: I can go in with a crazy idea of maybe getting short bangs, and she advises me and "lightens my load", thinning out the heavy front and still making me look good. Jen knows color. I often state that I want to work with the dark hair at the roots, the gray hair coming in, and several shades of blonde besides. She gets that I want my gray to be one of my highlights, and that I often want to work on the top half of my head, and not all of the hair. I always leave there happy when Jen takes care of me. Lady was saying my hair was nice etc etc. She was trying to explain to me how my hair grows, which was her masking the fact that she didn't know how to cut hair. I have been getting trims here in between expensive cuts/colors for the last few months and always had good experiences except for this last visit. I recently got longish bangs and came in this past Wednesday for a trim. I was very specific about how I wanted to keep the bangs long but still touch them up and she seemed to understand. She gently touched them up at first, then grabbed a section recklessly and cut a chunk out. I freaked out and told her "no more off the length!" And she told me she needed to even it out so she grabbed the left and right side and chopped another two chunks off. This is by far the worst haircut experience I have ever had and she didn't seem to care or take my request into consideration at all. At one point I had to tell her to put the scissors down because I simply wanted a trim and she wanted to continue to cut. There was no method of technique to her cutting either. I left with tears in my eyes and have been insecure and trying to style them in a way that looks semi decent ever since but it's been very hard. I walked in for a simple blowout and afterwards remembered why I should NEVER go back here again. I was given Sunny and she is horrible. The entire time she tried to up sell me on a deep conditioner and then shampoo and conditioner products. She burned my scalp blow drying my hair and then sprayed a TON of hairspray on my hair. I told her I don't need or use hairspray but she didn't care. Then the icing on the cake she charged me an extra $10 to blow dry my hair because according to her my shoulder length hair is too long so she can up-charge me. Total I paid $28 for the worst blowout ever but, I learned a valuable lesson. Never go back here again and never ever let Sunny touch my hair again. read more

Terrible! Would give zero stars if I could. Tried to make a first time appointment for my 3 year old and because I was new, wouldn't make me an appointment and told me to walk in. Of course there was a 30 minute wait.... they said, with my 3 year old. After 45 minutes and 2/3 of stylish finishing with clients they had and not taking us back, I asked the 3rd lady who had a client and had initially told me it would be 30 minutes, how much longer. Her reply was that she couldn't help me. Did not offer to see if either of other 2 ladies, who had walked in to a back room, would help me and just went back to working on her client. Left without a cut and went somewhere else. Had a coupon for a free cut, wash and dry there that went in the trash. Because even free isn't worth that! read more
