Have gone here multiple times and the service is very inconsistent. Today was my last visit. I asked Christina to cut half an inch and she cut about 3-4 inches. I've gone to her for years and she ignores what I asked her to do and just does what she wants and what she thinks might look better. I specifically asked for no face framing because I wanted it to grow out (from her last haircut that was too short) and she did it anyway. Love Symi's Hair Design! The hubs needed a last-minute, emergency haircuit, and Symi's was located conveniently near a tea place that I adore. They accepted walk-ins, so in we went! The staff in there are so friendly and welcoming; we came right on time when one customer was finishing up. The hip hairdresser with the awesome combat boots and a wicked haircut attended to the hubs' hair, and she did an amazing job! Even the hubs was super impressed - it took less than 15 minutes or so, and you can tell that there were some years of experience behind those pair of scissors! Went in for a haircut yesterday and walked out with arguably one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. Showed them a picture of what I wanted and proceeded to get my hair chopped off (literally its been the shortest since I left the marines). I don't believe they have much experience cutting mens har but I will not be returning and highly recommend others to get their hair cut somewhere else. Lisa takes too many customers than she can handle. I had been warned about this but the first time I went she was the only one available and she had a cancellation so it wasn't bad. But then she fried my daughter's hair during a straight perm as she handled 4 customers at once. Then she fried and damaged it more trying to cover it up with keratin perm. She did not follow protocol with keratin process and now my daughters hair is damaged beyond repair and she has significant hair loss. I consulted a reputable hair stylist and she said the damage is due to old cheap expired perm solution and of course lack of attention, proper procedure and expertise. I should've listened to others who got their hair fried and damaged by Lisa. The other ladies there don't seem to be like her for I only saw them working with one or two customers at once. I regret not listening to others. Also, place is filthy. They don't seem to wash or disinfect anything whatsoever. read more

I don't like fancy stuffy salons so this place was great. I didn't have an appointment and was seated immediately- I came right at opening and they were already pretty packed. Place is clearly Korean owned and run but I got a nice Spanish lady who is also named Tina and she did a very nice job. I just needed a quick trim and came in with my hair just washed. She finished up the trim with a blow dry and straightening and finishing product. I'm 9/10 happy with my cut. Overall time was 40 minutes and cost $35 not including tip. Best thing of all was I wasn't forced into idle conversation which I absolutely DESPISE. I just napped while she did her thing. Overall, this is an exceptional hair salon! The hair stylists are very experienced and precise in their work, leaving their customers satisfied. The only major downside is that they are extremely busy many times due to high demand. They stylize and cut your hair to your requests very well, and always ask if they are stylizing it fine. This place is accessible to many and is kept in a good clean condition most times as the staff cares about wiping the floors and sanitization (masks) often. The place functions well for its purpose but is slightly disorganized. Though, it has a good environment to sit and wait or take a haircut. tl;dr: I would highly recommend this location for hair stylizing as they are incredibly effective in doing so. Oh man, when people say this is a hidden gem, take them tf seriously. I came in on advice from a coworker who is a Centreville local, and let me tell yall this isn't just a hidden gem, it's a DIAMOND in the rough! People are right, it's no frills and the staff who work there (a pleasantly diverse mix of Korean and Latina immigrants) won't coddle you with overly insincere compliments or a glass of wine or whatever fancy salons/spas tend to do. But they're all friendly and you can tell even with a slight language barrier that they are invested in making sure you look amazing. That's what they did for me. Picture my Nigerian self rolling in blind, can't speak Korean, can't speak Spanish, but can tell when her hair's did right. I've been doing protective styles lately but after years of being careful I just wanted to do something crazy, so I got it dyed. (Disclaimer: my hair is 3C so it can take some bleach but I'm realistic about what can be done). The lady who took me was also fair. She didn't sugarcoat the process but told me what to expect and what would look best. She was careful and conservative in her mixing process and treated my hair very gently, and in the end, I left with some beautiful warm brown dip-dye action at the ends of my hair! She even offered tips to take it further if I wanted to next time, like if I wanted a cooler color I could come in for a toner or even (after copious recovery) a double-process to take it to an ombre blonde. Even with her broken English, I appreciated that she tried her best to communicate with me, and I knew we were on the same page. Now there was a bit of a wait, but I found that people were able to make appointments so I'll be doing that for sure next time. Not even surprised, this place was probably already mad popular before I heard about it. In response to some other review on this place about some sort of old person seniority thing: there was an old dude that came in after me who was seen first, but I saw him point to one of the stylists and it sounded like they had an appointment set up beforehand. I would hazard a guess that happened in this situation too, so hey, I chilled. What I like about this salon though is what I think really matters in a small business - owned locally, co-owned by each of the stylists (girl power!), gets the job done and gets it done very, very well. This place was recommended by my mother when I told her I'm looking for a new salon. I came here on Sunday with no appointment and my hair trim/treatment started in about 10-15 minutes. When I walked into the shop, I was confused because I was greeted by a lot of people but did not know who said it. They were all working and had their eyes on the client while talking to me... weird experience. Someone asked me what I wanted to do with my hair so I just replied (again, no actual face to face convo happening here) out loud that I'm looking to get a trim and maybe a perm. I then just took a seat and waited. The stylist told me getting a perm was not going to be good for my hair type and recommended me keratin treatment. She said that it will strengthen my weak hair and give it a natural straight hair look. I usually stick to simple stuff but I decided I should try something new so I agreed. Overall my hair looks really flat right now. Also my hair felt waxy near my roots area so when I got home, I flat ironed it for like 30 minutes... it feels a lot better now! The whole process took about 2.5-3 hours and $130 (not including tip). I didn't know that I can't tie, pin, and wash my hair for the next 3 days. Had I known this fact, I would have rescheduled for a Friday session. FYI-This place also has WiFi (Hair D) and it does not require a password! So connect and chill while you treat yourself! Update: after 3 days, and more time to think... I actually think the place is not a 3 star but 4! They didn't inform me much about the process but given the price and how the hair turned out, I think it's a solid place. You just have to know what you're getting yourself into! $130 for keratin treatment is on the cheaper end so if you've done it before or do your research on how to care for it after then it's a solid place! read more

Got a simple layered haircut and looked worse than when I came in. Twice now I've been pretty unsatisfied with my cuts so decided I wouldn't come here again. It used to be better and the stylists would actually take care in doing it right but both times they seemed to be rushing and it turned out looking awful. I sat down and they didn't prep my hair at all, just started cutting - don't think my hair was parted right either, she also skipped the blowdry. Usually I don't leave bad reviews but this has happened twice. I understand the need for a "speedy cut" but I'd rather wait 20 minutes longer if it means better, high quality cuts. read more

The other evening by the time I get out from work around 6PM, looking into Yelp for Salons open late around my area. I found that this was the only one open until 8:00 pm. So I drove over and ask if I could have my hair color I usually have it done Light Brown with High lights but this time I really wanted to go dark black. The lady said I will not recommended to go black she was trying to convince me to do it dark brown instead, but then one Spanish lady that work their said I will do it just like she want it a dark black, Every body left the salon and we where the only two in the salon working on my hair,While we wait for the treatment we talk and we laugh a lot it was my first time meeting the lady and she end up staying passed 8:25 pm . I had to leave fixing my hair myself, and tie it in a bun. I originally asked for Sylvia, but was told she doesn't work on Mondays. So I took whoever was available. Worst mistake ever! If a hair stylist can not tell what hair type you have and accomplish a blow out the right way maybe they should consider a different career. I wish I remembered her name to share. Heavy set lady, very short hair. Deep voice, speaks with an accent. She may be great with color and short hair, but certainly not great with blow outs and coarse long hair.
