I cannot emphasis how satisfied I am with Lydia Joo. The color in my hair was fading so I wanted to dye it again, vibrantly. I've been in the area for a while and tried a lot of different hair stylists, but Lydia has by far been the best. I went to her after looking at reviews, and she did NOT disappoint. She was fast and efficient compared to others (I thought I'd be at the salon ALL day, but I was only there for a couple of hours. Understandable for what I wanted.) Not only was my hair self bleached multiple times, but it was also colored multiple times as well. It also was cut in a way that the bottom half of my head was shaved. However, none of this hindered Lydia. My hair is actually healthier, and her styling skills have gotten me multiple compliments from random strangers. I haven't loved my hair like this in years! Like other reviews stated, she also advised me about my style and home care. She suggested I also add in highlights so my roots don't show so obviously since I had bleached my entire head. I actually work out at lifetime, but I never even thought to try their salon. I was in desperate need of a hair stylist so I looked up reviews on here and saw everyone talking about Lydia Joo, so I made an appointment to try her out for a hair cut. She uses a dry cutting technique where she washes, dries, then flat irons your hair then cuts it. I absolutely loved how it turned out. I booked another appointment to do a balayage ombré with her (before and after pictures attached). It took almost 4 hours and is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. She uses a product called oliplex which helps prevent the damage from bleach. My hair was almost black and she was able to lift it to a beautiful ash blonde without damaging it! (If you have dark hair and have ever put bleach on it then you know how harsh it can be). She toned with like 3 different toners to get all the orange out. LOVE the final product. read more

I just had my haircut again and she is still so great and happier in her new location. Go see her! Lydia Joo from Creative Hair Salon is here!! When I learned she was no longer at the other salon, I panicked because she is the first person in NoVa that actually cut my hair right in my 13 years of living here. Luckily Google helped me find her from her FaceBook account and I was happy to find her. The cool thing is that you don't have to be Lifetime member to go to this salon. In fact, going here allows you to workout for free for the 1st 24 hours after your appointment and access to the daycare center for those that have kiddos to keep in mind. My experience there was lovely as I was served cucumber water, which was a nice surprise. And Lydia of course, was as delightful as ever as her assistant came along there with her. Plus, you don't have to have cash to tip which is a nice plus. I first went with Lydia because of all the amazing reviews she received on Yelp from Creative Salon. I planned to wait till I got back to Singapore to get a haircut and redo my colour. However, after 2 months in Fairfax, my fringe was driving me nuts and I was tired of playing shaggy dog. After reading reviews of various salons in the vicinity, I thought I'd take a bet on Lydia Joo. That worked out great as she's truly as the other reviewers described: thoughtful, caring and professional. Why do I say this? She assesses your hair and gives suggestions based on your best interests and not what's most expedient / expensive. 8 weeks is the longest time I'd gone without a haircut and since my hair was previously bleached a couple of times, the ends were dry. She cut away the dry ends, added some layers for more movement and volume. She blended a colour that fit my skin tone. My female friends loved the photo that I posted after my haircut but my bf thought I'd just rolled out of bed with my wind-tousled look. It looks like I've already been beaten to it, but Lydia Joo moved over here from a salon nearby and i would absolutely recommend her above all other stylists in the Centreville area.. She's not just some kind of amazing elite, master stylist, not just with both cut and color, but she's also a fantastic human being and your haircut will be genuinely fun.. No doubt. It was a little awkward going to the gym to get a haircut, but the salon is literallly ~70degrees left when you walk in the door. I'm upset that i missed her name, but Lydia is so great she even brought her awesome assistant with her to lifetime.. I won't bag on another salon, but they're not treating her properly, and trading in her name and messing with her client list, which is super uncool. I have no dog in this race.. I decided to pamper myself for my New Year resolution. I had a facial, massage and got my nails done for the first week of the month. The facial and massage went nice. Joanna is really good. And both women were friendly and accommodating. But then I went and got my nails done with Trish. Wow, I have never dealt with someone more rude and condescending. She didnt look or talk to me the entire time. The only time she talked to me was when I asked for ombre nails and she told me my nails are too short. And no they are not. You can make it work on any nail, but she was just too lazy. She would roll her eyes when I would say something, so I stayed silent. The black nail filed she used on me was white because of all the residue from other people's nails. She seems to not know much about nail trends. She didnt even use a a base on my nail and went right for the gel polish. My polish was so thick that all my nails started cracking sooner than I have ever ever experienced. My nails are all cracked and dry because she didnt use any base and now they look awful. She also had her daughter just sitting right behind her the whole time. Her mind was somewhere else. She also used an emery board on me that was old and was black but it had white residue allover of nail residue from other customers. Using the emery board more than once on a customer is ILLEGAL. I would think Lifetime would hold a higher standard, but you might as well go to those cheaper places because they both have foul practices. read more

After reading some reviews, I checked out the LifeSpa because I was in dire need of a haircut. Lydia was able to cut and style my long, thick, and damaged hair with beautiful results. She took the time to speak to me about what I wanted and made recommendations. I was very happy with the outcome. She truly lives up to her title of 'Elite Master Stylist'. As I tell her what I wanted, she says she's not a magician, but at the end what she did to my hair was truly magic! She transformed my hair that is a mix of blunt cut, uneven layers and chopped bangs into nicely shaped bob! Also caramel colored balayage added a beautiful dimension to the style. I have been going to Lydia for more than 20 years, I love her work and always leave happy after every appointment. When Lydia moved to LifeSpa I had to drive 45 minutes to an hour in traffic. I still came because she is a great hair stylist. The one reason I really didn't enjoy being at the spa was the inside temperature. It would be freezing while I got my hair color done. I remember many of other clients complained and nothing was done. I can't believe that they were not able to fix the AC/heating unit. Point blank: Trish Tran is to nails what Einstein was to relativity. She knows her sh*t. When I find someone like that (and I'm incredibly picky) I stick with her, stalk her & follow her. She has such a large & loyal following that getting an appointment last minute can be impossible. But, no matter how busy I've been, I wouldn't trust my nails to anyone else just because I'm desperate. For me, this person is Crystal, who I have been seeing for over 2 years (after trying multiple other stylists who never seemed to get it right). So pleased was I with her skills and personality, that I followed her from another salon -- despite the fact that this LifeSpa location is MUCH further away for me -- and I have a standing appointment over a year in advance. Crystal quickly understands what you're looking for, and sincerely appreciates all of her customers. In fact, I have referred a couple of friends to her that were so pleased, that they also have standing appointments with her! I have been coming to Kay for awhile now and have only had positive experiences with her. Kay is the most caring and professional hairstylist out there. Before Kay, my hair was extremely damaged. I went to many other hair salons in the area and was was let down several times. Since I had extremely curly hair, hair stylists used to use harsh chemicals and harmful tactics to try to straighten it. As a result, my hair was damaged, unhealthy and stopped growing. After Kay saw my hair, she recommended treatments such as the Brazilian Blow Out and Keratin treatment in order to retain nutrients and strengthen my hair. Yep...it's official...LYDIA JOO is THE best hair stylist I have EVER had (& I'm 42 yrs. old!)!!! I was curious to check-out her new home here at LifeSpa Salon-Spa and I was not disappointed! Located right inside the front door at Lifetime Fitness on Trinity Parkway...you know, the big huge fitness gym you can see from I66??...so easy to get to! I loved how nice and sweet everyone was...from booking the appointment with "Jenn" (so professional and I could almost "hear" her smile through the phone!!)...to having my hair washed with "Sue"...and then checking-out was a breeze. LifeSpa even allows me to put my tip on my credit card which I'd not been able to do for Lydia before. A GREAT feature IMO. Also -- and pls. check with the manager on this...but, I *believe* that if you have a service done at the salon (they've got EVERYTHING!) then you are also entitled to a 2-hr pass to the rest of the healthclub! WOO-HOO! Great concept, right?? I saw Lydia from the lobby and when I walked in I was quickly offered a cup of H2O and a nice comfy seat in a big leather sofa/chair to wait. Right on-time Sue arrived and took me back for a nice wash-n-massage. Everything was very clean, modern and comfortable. I noticed while I was waiting they carry AVEDA products and I was THRILLED! I'm quite happy I'm back with a salon which carries AVEDA for me to purchase. And, Lydia used a really cool Bumble&Bumble product on my nice short cut I'm trying out. Lydia was able to transform my hair from a brassy orange tone to an awesome brown colour that I was hoping to achieve at another salon (which they failed miserably at). Also my hair is very thick and frizzy but Lydia also saved me from that by introducing the keratin treatment to me. I am finally more satisfied/VERY HAPPY with my hair.. I'm happy with the color and the styling that Lydia was able to do for me during my appt. Words cannot describe how happy I am with my new hair. I got a full body wax from here and never again because the blonde lady who serviced me used the same stick and double dipped!!!! I didn't notice until the end or I would've walked out. She also didn't prepare enough hard wax so she ended up using soft wax on most areas including some of the bikini area which left me with burns after. She was very sweet but sanitation is still a priority. I've also gotten two pedicures here only because I had LT bucks. If I didn't I wouldn't invest $52. Its nothing special; you get a foot soak in cool water, the massage chair is messed up so you can't even enjoy that, a little leg scrub, she will pumice your heels for a second, some cream and that's it!!! Of course they clean and give you color but it's a basic pedi that you get somewhere else for $25 and even get a paraffin wax And a chair that works. At another salon I paid $60 and got a clean up, hot stone massage, paraffin wax, mask and scrub! Left with no callus for days. The staff is very friendly but the pedi service is way over priced for what you get and I will never be getting a wax here again due to poor sanitation protocol. Update Got my nails done here for the first time and never have I been so disappointed. The tech and I talked on social media and she said she could do what was in the pic. The stones that I wanted were nothing like what she had. Half way through our appointment she started to rush to get to her next one and the job ended up being a disaster. Sloppy ombre, lumpy nails just a careless job and for $75 I should've left with something decent. Going to another place to fix it. Very frustrating experience. Spoke with the GM and we were able to work something out but I'm hesitant to try more services with this spa. read more

Lydia's title may be 'Elite Master Stylist' but I prefer the more accurate 'Hair Genius.' I followed Lydia from the last salon she was at to LifeSpa and she never disappoints. I searched for 5 years to find a stylist I was comfortable with in VA (I am spoiled and snobby given my experiences in NYC), went through many a mediocre and bad haircut, and now that I've found her, I've let her know that she can never retire! Really though, Lydia is a perfectionist, she's creative, and she has an attention to detail and getting it 'right' for her own satisfaction - she is truly passionate about all things hair and it comes out in her work. This past week I went from brown hair with caramel highlights to being a subtle redhead and I love it! She knows enough about coloring that we were able to make the switch without me worrying about whether it would come out right. I trust her and knew that she wouldn't recommend something that wouldn't be flattering. Besides being a great stylist, the pricing at the spa is very reasonable and the assistants are friendly and helpful.
