The front-desk experience is the only reason for this rating. Each time I come in, the woman up front asks for my phone number. I politely decline because I value my privacy, and instead of simply respecting that, she becomes direct, rude, and visibly irritated. That is not acceptable customer service. If a customer says no to providing personal information, that should be respected immediately without pressure, attitude, or comments about how it makes an employee's job harder. The rest of the staff have been excellent, which makes this stand out even more. But the person at the front desk needs to learn how to respect a customer's boundaries. read more

I don't normally ever leave a review but this is quite literally the worst hair cut I've ever had on my head, the "layers" are extremely blocky and rough, my face framing curtain bangs are way too thick and look like over grown bangs. A lot of the parts or spots that are the same "layer" aren't even the same length neither are my ends on either side. I am extremely upset with all of it especially with how long my hair used to be to the horror show that is my hair now. I didn't even get a chance to see it in the salon cause she decided to cut it and leave it wet so i couldn't see how bad it actually is until I got home. I had a lady here cut my hair in January of 2025. She was super rude to me. At that time i had recently dyed my hair and she repeatedly gave me dirty looks and complained about how dry my hair was when i told her that i had recently dyed my hair. She recommended leave in conditioner to me and I let her know that I was using leave in conditioner and taking good care of my hair and she still complained and gave me dirty looks. When I showed her the haircut I wanted she told me that layers would be hard to manage on my thin hair so I told her to not do layers and just cut it to shoulder length. She still went ahead and put layers in my hair after I told her not to because of her suggestion. She also did the layers very poorly and it genuinely looked like i had a bowl cut with a little hair underneath. She also didn't do my bangs right at ALL but i just went with what she had cut because I was scared of her messing up my hair even more. I honestly wish I skipped the salon the day I went and just stayed home. I had very long, silky brown hair and asked for long curtain bangs. Provided a picture and stated what I absolutely did not want. Left with short curtain bangs that are so short they don't touch my eyebrows, with a choppy cut that just looks like dead ends by my face :/. The cut is uneven, so on one side of my face the bangs are way longer. I am absolutely mortified, and worst of all, I feel ugly. Stylist was nice, but this haircut has ruined my self confidence and therefore will not be returning. read more

I see why this is so low rated. I had an appointment at 1:00 by 1:35 I was told I still had one more in front of me. Within 35 minutes of sitting there I observed terrible hair cutting skills by josh and spoke to the husband that had been waiting that josh was cutting his wife's hair and had taken over an hour. Another lady had no idea how to read the schedule and ended up missing a client completely. The Stylist, Connie, was unprofessional and extremely rude. I showed her a picture of the cut I wanted (which is the cut I currently have). She immediately started arguing with me about whether the cut was layered or not. It was so unprofessional. I got up and left the salon. I was concerned by then that she did not know what she was doing. She was listed as a Salon Leader so when I scheduled the appointment I figured she was a qualified stylist. Some of the other stylists may be fine. I don't know. But steer clear of Connie unless you enjoy dealing with difficult people. I do not recommend this salon. I simply cannot stress how horrible this entire experience was for me. This was the worst hair "salon" visit of my entire life. I couldn't get a last minute appointment at my usual place so I decided to take a chance on Hair Cuttery. (Preface- the worker quoted the service being $90 with NO blow dry or tip.) I went in to get my roots darkened and my "stylist" spent less than ten minutes "putting" (throwing and splashing) color on my hair. He neglected to use foils and was in such a rush that he spilled and splattered dark brown hair dye all over the blonde middle parts and ends of my hair, staining it permanently. He missed several spots and I had to actually ask both him and another employee to come back over to fix his multiple mistakes. He spent a good five minutes insulting my hair, commenting on how he thought my hair looked dry and "straw like" and tried to push unnecessary services on me. The ends of my hair are neither dry nor straw like, he was simply trying to force me to buy products. He then left me, with wet hair, sitting with my head in the bowl for over 30 minutes as he moved on to another customer and forgot about me all together. He actually had already moved on to a third customer up front by the time I ended getting up from the bowl with wet hair to ask for help from another employee, just to get my hair washed out. Upon asking for assistance from a higher ranking employee, I was rudely interrogated and blamed for not being specific enough with what I wanted even though I brought 10+ photos with me of what I wanted. The photo below shows the "final result" and what I was left with after my utterly incompetent and unprofessional "hair expert" ruined my hair. I do not know how anyone could leave at the end of the day, proud of the work that they've done, knowing that they had destroyed someone's confidence. I would be mortified as an employee or manager knowing that someone under my employ provided such a service and treated customers in such a way. My hair looks like it was done by someone with absolutely no experience because my stylist was incompetent and unprofessional. Once again, I cannot stress how terrible The Hair Cuttery is and I strongly, strongly discourage anyone from going there. It would a huge, expensive, and overpriced mistake. read more

My stylist didn't cut my hairline straight and cut into it too far. I asked for a skin fade and a trim, which I received, but the trim was very aggressively executed. Alyxes was very nice, but didn't seem like she understood what I was asking for. I went home and fixed what little I could, aka shaved it down with a 4 guard so it'll all grow out evenly, but I will not be returning to this location. Such an inconsistent experience; it's either fine or terrible, but never great. I know you get what you pay for but I only go here for very simple cuts. Basic trims should be easy, but half the time it's a nightmare. My latest visit was the final straw and I can't bring myself to go back. I told them what I wanted and had pictures but I got blank stares. I'm a female and wanted a haircut that is typically for men. This is a problem sometimes and they usually try to talk me out of getting but this time they looked confused and suggested I go to a barber shop. This place is always sure to be busy so call ahead if you don't want to wait. With that said, I usually only come here for a cheap trim or deep conditioning treatment. My favorite stylists are Monquie and Eve but overall I've never had any complaints other than someone cut off too much of my hair. This is not the place for a fancy cut or a fresh new look. Stick to the boutique salons downtown if you are looking for that. Hair cuttery is best for children's haircuts and routine maintenance. I usually have no qualms with hair cuttery, but this was terrible. I wouldn't say avoid this salon but rather you should avoid Cam, the stylist. She ignored what I wanted and showed me a picture in a book. The picture was fine and I would have liked it; however she didn't do that. She also cut my bangs when I asked her not to. What bothered me the most was that she used a razor on my already thin fine hair. If I had seen her grab it I would have asked her not to use it. Now my hair ( what's left of it) is thinner than before and damaged. What can I say about Chris at the Short Pump location? Not enough great things. This man is a wizard with scissors and I should have written this review a long time ago. He is the only person my daughter trusts to cut her hair. She has curly hair. If cut wrong she could look like a mushroom. Chris has been cutting her hair for over a decade. I have been going here for years! However, I can only speak for Cam; she is the only hair dresser that has touched my hair there. Cam listens to exactly what you want and gives it to you. Worst hair cut experience ever! The cut actually was cute by the stylist was awful. First, I checked out their website online and saw I could get my hair shampooed, cut and dried for 22 dollars. I called and made an appt and stated that I wanted the shampoo cut and dry for $22. So I get there and the first thing the stylist does (named Cam) was try to get me to do highlights. I politely tell her no but she asks THREE more times telling me I would look better with highlights. Then she proceeds to tell me something about adding ten dollars because my hair needs more conditioner because my hair is long. I couldn't tell if I understood her right as it is apparent English isn't her first language so i just repeated that I wanted the shampoo cut and dry for $22. While she is cutting my hair she is checking her personal cell phone and taking other calls. When she is done she takes me up front and gets on the phone again and just points at me to swipe the card. I ask how much and she just points at the card machine again. I ask again and she says $29. I said that wasn't right and then she says it's $32. I'm starting to get frustrated so I ask for the manager who was standing their the whole time. She then tells me it's ten extra dollars for long hair ( which is ridiculous!!) and I again tell her what the website says. She then tells me she doesn't know what it says and finally just gives me the $22. I was mad at the point- paid and left. I calmed down then called her an hour later and told her how unprofessional Cam was and how I felt like they weren't treating me like a human but just someone they can upsell and get money out of. I also told her she needs to know what her own website says. It was awful. Never ever go. If I could give 0 stars I would. Terrible experience. My daughter went in for a blow out and basic straightening. She has a lot of hair, but it is straight and does not have a single curl in her head. The stylist Jerry was very rude and condescending. Told her he didn't want to straighten her hair and she should wear her hair curly, complained the entire time about her thick hair which made her feel bad, told her she was rushing the hair dresser because she simply looked at the clock (she has a new infant and just wanted to know if she needed to let someone know she would be later). Told her rudely to stop touching her head, etc. Also charged $64. My daughter is a kind person and still left a decent tip. I have similar hair.
