RAVE: Hair Emporium in Dublin I needed a quick hair cut, I haven't had since last 1.5 years, since I had donated 10 inches of my tresses. I was looking for a place that was reasonable, since it's just hair cut with layers, not color, no nothing else. When I inquired at a few places, most of them were exorbitant. Finally I called Hair Emporium that's in Dublin, based of some recommendations read on Facebook and amazing reviews on Yelp. Sandy was the only one that could have been available, so I gave her a quick call, and then everything else was through texting. She was very responsive, friendly even after we met ... took my temperature, followed all covid protocols, gave me a nice hair cut, gave suggestions but not being pushy, did what I asked but also gave opinion. I've been coming to Ali for 4 years to tackle my many hair projects (pink hair, balayage, lowlights, highlights, blonde sombre/ombre) and am always impressed! Having virgin asian hair when I arrived for my first appointment, Ali advised that the process to move into blonde and progressively into pink would be long in order to maintain the health of my hair. I tend to flip between lighter hair for summer/spring and dark tones for fall/winter and she is always so accommodating. Ali is incredibly talented, honest, and thorough throughout the process. My hair is thick and grows quickly and Ali always has the time to thin and refresh my mane. As of late, I typically come in to maintain my caramel balayage or a colormelt appointment. When I came in to make the appointment the salon makes a very good impression, busy and the person I spoke with was very helpful and I got an appointment with a short notice. The haircut itself it's probably one of the worst I ever paid for and it cost more than any previous service. The hairdresser was nice and talkative, used a nice shampoo etc but the cut.... well I think the result of me doing it myself could be on the similar level. I asked for a shoulder length with bit of layers to give me some volume that I naturally lack, but the layers are so visible and the cut is uneven it's just does not naturally blend in. read more

This review is 5 years overdue, as I have been going to Ali for as long as I've known her. I moved to Dublin CA, five years ago, and began to search for a new hair stylist. Prior to this, I went to a few well known salons in San Francisco. I found Ali, on yelp. And recall something in the sense that she's good at what she does, and is an amazing person. Well, true, and true, except I think that is an understatement! After my first appointment with Ali, I left a new woman. There was never an awkward moment with her. And being that I have asian hair, and love to go lighter, she knew exactly what to do with me. She explained that the stages will take a while because originally, my ebony black hair take a while to strip. Ali, never once made me feel silly, and genuinely cares when she feels that something is not to her liking. She addresses all the wishes I have, and successfully delivers. Since that first day, I have not gone to anyone else. Well, I have to admit, I did cheat on Ali once, but only because I needed a weekend appointment, and was unable to squeeze myself into Ali's busy calendar. Boy, did I regret it. Not only was my color done tragically wrong, but the hair stylist was disengenuious. From that moment after, I swore to myself i would never go to anyone else but Ali. Ali, has now grown to know me for years. She's become a friend and confident to me over the years. Very unhappy customer. 3 mos ago I found this salon, scheduled root touch up w/Adis. She appeared responsible per conversations during services. 11/19/22 I had another root touch up at 2:45pm. Adis has no idea what I went through to arrive 5 mins early to my appt & how busy my day was. I always consider the hair stylist & her time. However, my time for her was nothing. I arrive, she comes out holding a dish w/color mix like she uses for me. As she is stirring it I panic inside hoping she did not double book. She tells me it will be a "few" mins, have a seat. Ok, I did turn and look at her station, sure enough looked like she just STARTED highlights for long hair. She had very little foils in the hair. I planned understanding, being patient knowing I had other commitments. After 35 min wait, I call her (looked like not even half way done) asking how much longer. Replied 15 mins. What? Adis is not asking if ok, she is expecting I sit wait while she does a highlight service during my pre-scheduled appt done a month in advance. It doesn't get any worse than that!! A courtesy call letting me know she was doing something else, giving me an option or alert before my appt was deserved. If she was running late (starting someone else right before I am scheduled is not ok) it was her duty to alert me right away. Not while I waited there or she should have the courtesy to explain to me WHY she just started another customer during my scheduled time. I cannot rely on this type of horrible service because I don't know if it will happen again. I only got silence from her. Clearly she had no justifiable excuse so silence is her way. I was also puzzled why she never acknowledged the $50 tip I gave her last month for my root touch up. I was not expecting anything other than knowing she did notice. Lost a good customer, a monthly income for this stylist and salon. read more

I recently lost my hair stylist of 20 years, and have explored numerous establishments in the Tri-Valley area, hoping to find a desirable permanent replacement. I have been unhappy with these last six experiences, but was fortunate enough to make a cold call appointment with Ms Tara this afternoon. I was greeted by this pleasant and friendly young woman, who was genuine in our conversational exchange, leaving me both comfortable and confident in her professional abilities. The end result of my experience was that I received a great hair cut, minus being pressured to purchase grooming products I have no interest in, and was able to actually enjoy myself while letting Tara work her magic. So disappointed. After all of the great reviews, I was really looking forward to trying this salon and getting some color and a cut especially since my birthday is Friday. I could not even get a quote. I realized on Sat they were closing in about 10 minutes so I thought I would call to see if one of the 5-6 stylist that were getting sure rave reviews would be free today (Mon). Unfortunately I got a machine. I thought I might get a call since it was still before closing time, but no such luck. I left a message asking if any if the named stylists happened to be free on Monday and to please call me back at my cell. I made sure I was free all day to take the call and worked from home in case they could get me in. Well I think it was early afternoon I called again and said I had left a message and the woman that answered said none of those stylists were in yet and she did not know there schedule so I would have to wait until one of them came in. Well it is after 6:00 now and I was going to call back, but I see on their site that they are closed. I have not been here before but wouldn't it have been good to even call a potential client back? Maybe say, we are checking and will get back to you. Or these two are in and unfortunately are full, these other two are not in until X and may or may not be full, however would you be interested in Y, she/he is great. I went there with my daughter and Cara took care of us. She carefully listened to what we wanted for a haircut and she also suggested a few things when asked. Overall it was a positive experience for me. In other places, it would all be about making customer pay more money but here its all about providing great service. I went here with a bridal party for some fancy hairdos. Overall, I'd rate the hair a C+. It wasn't exactly what I wanted (picture Shirley Temple with curls of steel - but on an adult), the stylist was late, they only take checks/cash and the salon is slightly ghetto - but I have had worse experiences.. I do think it was a bit of a rip off ($65 for what was worth 1/2 that at most). I've been going here for 7 years, my stylist is Shelley Lichtenberger. She was recommended to me when I moved into the area and I've been with her ever since. I love this place, it's down to earth, clean, and beautifully decorated. By "down to earth" I mean it's NOT one of those high fashion noisy salons with lots up up selling pressure and annoying chicks in high heels. I have long hair with low-lites & hi-lites. Shelley does great work and I trust her! :) The other stylists seem very capable as well, the salon's website explains who's specializing in what. This review is long overdue, but here we go... My daughter and I first started going to Tara several years ago for color and cuts, and we have always had a great experience. Tara really knows what she is doing, and she takes the time to give you the perfect result. Not only is she great at her craft, she is kind, funny and interesting. She has rescued my daughter from bad box dye jobs more than once, and dealt with me - the kind of client I'll bet every colorist/stylist dreads - the one who doesn't know what she wants! (But that's ok, because she always has great ideas and I am never disappointed.) All together a great salon! Ali Marie is the BEST! I am so happy I found her. She is truly talented. She is patient and does exactly what you ask. Her finger paint work is so great! I have ombré/bayalage and she not only had to fix the previous stylists job but make it all blend and look amazing. She is able to fit a hair cut in a lunch hour and typically can for you in her schedule reasonably. The salon design is more old fashion made modern, they rotate stations every three months which keeps the salon from getting cluttered and dirty. They greet you and let your stylist know your there, they offer you something to drink and make you feel comfortable and welcomed. I would definitely follow Ali wherever she may go! I have been going to the Hair Emporium for over 20 years. It is a really fantastic salon..I believe it has been open for 34 years or so and many of the stylists have been there since the beginning. To me thats how u know when a salon is good...The stylists never go elseware to work. Lynn has done my hair most of the time I go but I have also tried almost everyone else in there at one time or another and have never had a bad experience. I really love the antique dressers they work in also...its so different from other salons I have seen.Every few months the stylists move stations which makes it fun trying to figure out where they will be next time you go in. From the outside it doesn't look very big until you open the door and see all the stations.Also its connected to a nail and skin care place. I like to schedule my facials and hair on the same day so I get to feel really pampered. Christina is who does my facials and eyebrow waxing.. she always does a great job in making my skin glow!
