First time at Lokki. I took a chance based on the reviews. The salon is modern and bright. My stylist, Jay was on time. I showed Jay pictures and showed him that I only wanted a couple of inches taken off the length and he took it from there. I have coarse Asian hair and he thinned my hair like I'd never had it thinned. I was worried because it seemed like half my hair was on the floor, but now my hair lays nicely and is easier to blow dry. The cut was close enough to the pictures. I found the English spoken here to be limited so best to come in with a picture. There is always google translate. Also, if you use your credit card, there is a service charge, I think it was 3%. Asked for a loose wave perm with volume and left with coils - they should fall a bit in the next couple days so I'll have to wait and see. There is also no volume as my roots were not permed and my hair is aggressively straight, so it looks a little sad and flat on top then bam, curls. I also wasnt given any care instructions for my perm whatsoever, so it's a good thing I'd done my research and knew not to wash my hair or do any styling for the first couple days. I'd definitely give this place another shot, because my hair does look decent, but I'll have to make sure I'm extra clear on what exactly I want. I think Jay is real artist (period) and I'm grateful to have found him. I got a previous layer from him and loved it! I showed him a picture for reference and always feel like a million bucks after one of his haircuts. This time I didn't show a picture and just said long layer to match and the result was gorgeous! It is a bit thinner on the bottom than what I originally envisioned but it still looks great. I did as for the layers to start higher and didn't realize it would be more full on the top part. Booking an appointment with Iris was easy and the salon was nice, but my haircut is so uneven that I can't give this service more than one star. I should have backed out of this haircut when Jay started washing my hair and was using his nails instead of fingertips on my scalp. Way too much of my hair was cut short for face framing that turned out unbelievably uneven. After not leaving very much long hair he thinned it out even more. Lokki is my new favorite place to get my hair cut! Just a few days ago, I was doing so much research on Yelp to try and find a hair salon that would be able to do East Asian hair right. Lokki popped up as an option, and I decided to give it a shot given the good reviews and fair prices ($68 for a women's haircut is pretty good for the Bay Area). I reached out via the Yelp chat option on Tuesday night, Lokki got back to me on Wednesday morning, and I had an appointment booked with Jay for Friday (same week) all within a few hours. My first impressions of the salon were that it looked so cozy on the outside and clean on the inside. It was quite spacious inside and they had nice music on in the background too. The check-in process was super quick and we began with Jay showing me to the lockers in the back that they had for customers' bags/purses. Next was the hair wash and that was very relaxing! It's so nice that the price for the haircut comes with this service. I didn't exactly go into my appointment with a plan/idea of what I wanted because I wanted to leave it up to the hair stylist and Jay did not disappoint. He said that my hair would look nice with layers (otherwise the scalp area would look a little flat), as well as some Korean-style bangs to frame my face. I was feeling experimental so I happily agreed--then Jay very meticulously and carefully cut the layers, divided up my hair into sections to trim, etc. The entire experience (wash and cut) took about 1 hour. I was really impressed by how meticulous he was and I really appreciated the attention to detail. All in all, I'm so happy with how the cut turned out! My hair was so long before (lower back length; my last haircut was 9 months ago) and after cutting off at least 6 inches, I feel so much lighter. The style of the cut that Jay decided on was also perfect, I feel like it looks fresh, stylish, and interesting, the total opposite of how my hair previously looked. I have never been able to find amazing hair salons in the past--a lot of places I tried were decent and did the job, but nothing exceptional. But with Lokki, I can see myself becoming a regular and I'm so pleased that I finally found a good salon. I will totally come back in the future and have my hair cut by Jay again. He did seem more comfortable speaking Chinese, so it was nice and sort of fun using my okay-ish Mandarin speaking with him! My haircut totaled to be $68 + 20% tip, no additional tax. I'm kind of torn about my experience here. I was looking for a salon that does long asian hair well. Based on the reviews, I reached out to Lokki and booked an appointment for the following week. Definitely a plus to have availability so quickly as I am very impulsive when it comes to my hair (aka "I need a cut and I need it now"). When I arrived, I was asked if I spoke Chinese. I said no. My hairstylist only spoke Chinese. Was I nervous, yes. Did I need my hair cut, yes. The shampooing was nice. The haircut was ok. First, I was seated at a chair that still had someone else's hair all over the foor around it. That didn't bother me that much but that's never happened to me before. So on to the cut... I usually ask for long layers and I felt like my layers were too layered for the length of my hair (very long). The bottoms of my hair were thinned out too much. It didn't look bad but it's just not the way I like my hair. The haircut also took an hour and a half. I appreciated that the stylist took her time but I kind of felt like she was going over the same parts over and over again. However, I later realized she was actually the stylist herself, and this was never clearly communicated at any point. Because there was no communication or consultation at any stage before or during the shampoo, I had to assume the entire process myself from the beginning. I originally came in intending to get both a hair treatment (hair mask) and a haircut. However, due to the service experience and communication issues, I decided not to proceed with the treatment. Since my hair was already washed, I only proceeded with a basic trim. During the shampoo, there was no towel properly placed around my shoulders for protection, which is normally expected in a salon. After washing, my long hair was placed directly onto my clothing, which caused my clothes to get wet. When I asked about hair treatment products, the female hairstylist briefly showed me one when I asked about the brand. After I showed little interest, she was quickly put away, and further questions felt rushed and slightly impatient. The service provided was a basic haircut, and I was charged $68. I was able to get a same day haircut at Lokki, but little did I know I was going to regret it! Pei Wen was available for my haircut. I showed her multiple pictures of a long layered cut with a u shape and she seemed confident that she knew what I was asking for. I came in with long, thick, virgin hair and left the salon with thin, uneven, and stringy layers. This is what happens when you decide to "trust the process". My shampoo with haircut took 1.5 hours. She basically took a whole hour to cut my hair and just kept on cutting, and then continued to cut again with thinning shears. read more

This salon was EXACTLY what I was looking for: affordable for haircuts, good service and a good cut. I came in looking to just get layers in my hair, and my hairstylist, Joe gave good recommendations according to my face shape. For $68, I got a wash and cut (no styling). And my appointment was at least for an hour, most of which, he was cutting layers. So I really appreciate the time and effort put in, especially with limited staff. Setting the appointment was also very easy; I set it through Yelp, through their chat function. They also have lockers with keys for you to put your jackets/bags, which I thought was genius. However, when I was paying, they asked if I could pay cash, which I said yes, even though I'm usually more comfortable paying with card, so it's easier to leave a specific tip amount, especially since I couldn't find a designated tip jar either. However when I was given back my cash change, my hairstylist asked if I wasn't happy with my cut. To which, I was pretty shocked and immediately responded that I was very satisfied. And he said, usually people who are happy with their haircuts will leave a tip. That just left a weird taste in my mouth, as I was fully intending to leave a tip, and hadn't even moved since I got my change back. If it weren't for that, I would love to go back and continue to get my haircuts there. But that moment felt so awkward and uncomfortable to me, perhaps I'll go back in a year or two! read more

My experience at Lokki Beauty Salon was amazing! Scheduling through Yelp was fairly easy as they are very quick with their responses. Not only does Lokki have competitive pricing compared to other salons in the tri valley area, but the service provided by the employees and their hospitality is far better than most of the salons I've been going to. Finding salons that are not only affordable but specializing in different types of hair, specifically Asian hair, is hard to come by in this area. I got a hair cut with a senior hairstylist which was $68, far cheaper than other salons in the tri valley I've gone to which were priced between $70-$85 for a mid length cut. I was a bit skeptical at first because the price was fairly cheaper than anywhere I've been to, but I decided to give this place a go. The salon is fairly new has a minimalist yet cozy design and there's no overpowering scents like hair products or incenses which is great for those who are sensitive to smell. There's lockers with individualized keys that are given to each customer where they are able to store their valuables for the duration of their service which is something that I appreciated. I was looking to get a layered wolfcut and my hairstylist, Jay, was not only welcoming, but he was gentle, quick, and his attention to detail was amazing! A hair wash is included within the service as well! Jay was far gentler than any other hairstylist I've been with as others would squeeze, tug or pull on my hair, but Jay did not do any of that as he gently washed my hair and scalp. In the end, my haircut came out very well done. My layers did not feel too volumous at the top and the layers at the below my chin did not come out too thin. Other salons gave me more of a jellyfish cut than a wolf cut so the fact that Jay was able to give me the haircut that I wanted is what i'm impressed with. My hair is very straight and stubborn, so the fact that my hair still feels and looks the same hours after my haircut without the need for additional hair products like pomade at all is amazing. Another detail that I liked was that Jay did not take photos of my hair without consent nor did any of the employees try to push me to leave a 5 star review for the salon, which is great because I value my privacy. A disclaimer is that this location charges a 3% charge if you would like to pay with card but paying with other services like Zelle or Venmo does not come with the extra charge. My phone was dead at the time but I was impressed with the service and quality, so I did not mind the charge at all. In the near future, I hope to come back here again! read more

I asked for bangs and layers framing my face, something layered and feminine. Jay was very attentive and obviously cares about his craft. My haircut took 1.5 hours from start to finish because he kept layering and trimming - if you have time constraint I guess tell them from the beginning because they don't rush - but I was fine with it.
