She was a few minutes late into my appt, which was fine, since I wasn't in a hurry at that time. Asja is very friendly and personable. At one point before she started cutting my hair, she asked me a question and I didn't understand what she said (she speaks w/a very strong accent). She picked up a razor and asked if it was okay if she used it to cut my hair. I said sure, why not? As I was waiting to pay, I just so happened to confirmed the price of my haircut - and that's when I found out that w/her utilizing a razor, they charge an additional $10! I told the receptionist that I had no idea that it cost more! She said, "oh, well, then we'll just charge you $5." I really don't understand why they would charge more for this and can't justify the extra cost since all she did was use a different tool and honestly, it seemed much easier for her to use rather than a pair of scissors (which she did use, as well). I was completely put off by this. If you're going to offer a certain type of service but not tell the customer that's an additional fee, that's just shady. It's a shame, because while I think she did a good job cutting my hair, I don't care for people not being completely transparent with me.

From the moment I walked in til the moment I checked out, every person I spoke or dealt with was warm, welcoming & solicitous. Alyssa was my colorist & felt comfortable with her immediately. We discussed what I wanted, she presented the color options, explained how they would look & where they could be placed in the most flattering way. The end result was terrific. The streaks are noticeable but subtle &, despite the fact that blue isn't exactly a normal hair color, they DID blend in very naturally with my blonde base color. I had arrived in horrible weather & a very stressful day but, after looking at myself in the mirror, my mood was definitely more upbeat. I had casually asked Alyssa who she would recommend for a cut as my hair was pretty shaggy. I didn't expect to be seen yesterday afternoon but, knowing that I had had a pretty miserable day, she spoke to Philip privately & asked if he could squeeze me in & he did. I had the same experience with Philip (which is one of the things I liked most about the salon) as both he & Alyssa spent time explaining what they were going to do & why & asking me what my thoughts were as they went along. I felt listened to & heard. My usual haircut is pretty short as my hair has thinned getting older & short hair is more flattering at this point in my life. Philip's cut was a little shorter but it fell beautifully with the longer bangs I wanted along with the tighter back. He listened carefully to what I wanted or didn't want. Between the coloring & the cut, I left the salon a very happy camper. One note of caution for older customers: Static is located in a prewar building with no elevator & a long flight of steep steps to the second floor. I walk with a cane & by the time I reached the salon, I was out of breath. Going down was easier than going up but several people in the salon offered to walk with me to make sure I descended safely. I refused the offers but I felt cared about & very much appreciated that extra step. It made me want to "pay it forward" in the next business I visited.

Upon arriving at the salon at the scheduled time I was told that I will be seen by Griselda. I took a seat and she walked over to say that she just started to give a haircut to another customer and said to come back in 20 minutes. I reminded her that I had an appointment which I made it on time! Her response was "what do you want me to do" This was absolutely unacceptable. I made time out of my day to make it to the appointment on time and coordinated childcare coverage so I can attend this appointment. On top of this I am pregnant so I tried my best to accommodate my schedule. After all that she simply walks away without apologizing for the inconvenience!!
