ZERO STAR REVIEW!!! DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU GO TO CASE WESTERN AND/OR ARE BLACK. This was one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had. I called ahead and specifically asked if they had experience with Black hair. They said yes, which was a complete lie, just like their cosmetology experience as well. The second I walked in, every stylist stopped and stared at me like I didn't belong there. The energy was disgusting and uncomfortable from the start. The stylist had no idea what she was doing. She used no heat protectant, tried to straighten my hair while it was still wet, and then had the nerve to say I "didn't know how to do my own hair." The ignorance was unreal. Let's be honest, this place is not welcoming to Black clients. It's full of narrow-minded, untrained stylists who clearly have no respect or understanding for textured hair. The whole experience reeked of microaggressions and subtle racism. Save yourself the time, money, and disrespect. This salon needs more than training, it needs a reality check. read more

I will never come back to this place and want to warn everyone about the complete lack of customer service. I was treated in a very rude manner and felt that I did not have a say in my hair. I left this place in tears simply because of the way I was spoken to and the state of my hair. Where do I even begin? I came here for a trim with long layers, the same hairstyle I've gotten everytime at many other places. I had an expensive balayage done somewhere else in August and didn't want it cut off. However, the hairdresser I was with today did just that. I think she is the owner but I am not sure. I tried to show her length by moving my hair to the front and she told me "that is not how it is done" and told me to keep it in the back. She told me I did not know what layers were when I asked to maintain my length. I stated that I have always had layers and even got them done in August. For some reason, she had a different interpretation and did something different which I noticed from the front of my hair being cut very short. Then when I restated that I wanted layers, she said: "I thought you wanted something else". At this point, she had already cut my hair short and I couldn't do much about it. She also said, "you don't know what you want". I was starting to tear up at this point while she cut my hair. I asked if my balayage was at least there. She laughed in response and also said later on, "I don't know if you had a bad day and are taking it out on me". I am appalled that she laughed at me in front of other customers. No, I had a perfectly good day and was in a positive mood coming into this place. She also said my balayage was still there because she had only cut off an inch. Let me tell you, it is not. I have pictures of my hair before and can say with certainty that it is dramatically short. I sat under the dryer machine while tears ran down my face and I continued to wipe them off to avoid any embarrassment. In the end, I was not offered a blow-dry like the customer before me despite how badly I was treated. I remember her also saying "Everyone is shocked when their long hair has a dramatic change." I did not want a dramatic change. I wanted my hairstyle maintained with a trim for the split ends, something no one else would notice but to maintain the health of my hair. I cannot do anything about the cut or the loss of my hair color, but I did want to share my experience because I have never been brought to tears by the way I was treated at a business. read more

I was visiting the Cleveland Clinic with a friend who was having Cardiac tests. I called last minute and the owner took me immediately. She is a true professional with 40 years of experience. She listened and even made suggestions. I had just had a haircut in NYC but was unable to blow out my hair after shoulder surgery. She saw that I had a few loose ends, trimmed, and evened out those hairs for free!!! For an extremely reasonable price, she gave me a great blowout. After that, she even used the curling iron for an even better look. I was very grateful to have found such a great shop. I'll be back when my friend has heart surgery! I walk by this place every day on my way home from school without stopping. For once, I decided to live on the wild side and get a haircut. The hairdressers were outside talking and I stopped and asked them how much a haircut would be. Lucky for me there is actually a special on Monday and Wednesdays for students, so it was a couple bucks cheaper. They were helpful and very encouraging about the entire process. They even asked if I was going to cry because I was getting eleven inches off to donate. I have incredibly thick, long, and silky hair so I'm a bit wary when new hairdressers cut my hair. They talked me into the cut as well as were willing to help donate it to locks for love for me. Huge fan, great location, great service. I would go here in a heartbeat. I really wanted to like this place- first off, the service was good and the salon was comfortable and clean. That being said, the woman who cut my hair was either sloppy or just inexperienced with straight asian hair. I asked for a simple shoulder-length trim with side swept bangs and it came out uneven and choppy. Sections of my hair are either too long or too short, and my "side swept" bangs look like the hairdresser took a pair of scissors, made a single horizontal blunt cut, and called it a day. I probably should have brought a picture and am going to chalk some of this up to miscommunication, but I won't be going back. read more

I walked past this salon on my way to Little Italy last week and decided that I needed a new summer haircut. I saw online that they have a 10% student discount on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays - every discount helps since I'm on a student budget. Nella, the owner, took me in as a walk-in on a Wednesday, which I really appreciate - I think it was just luck that she had an open time slot before the next appointment. I would recommend making an appointment ahead of time to be on the safe side. I showed Nella a picture of the new hairstyle I was aiming for, and she went right to work. I basically wanted about three inches chopped off on the ends and to add some texture and layers throughout. I had a very pleasant conversation with her the entire time, and I learned that she knows quite a lot about Little Italy and some of its history. She is very friendly, professional and a joy to talk to, and most importantly, I am very happy and satisfied with my new haircut. The cost of the haircut was $18 - perfect for my budget. Overall, the place was clean and cozy, and I would definitely recommend Nella to anyone looking for a great haircut for a great price. read more

Did a walk in today to try the salon. It's certainly not the spa I'm used to. No offering of coffee or anything though they are sitting there and was offered to the old lady getting her hair done. Only one person was there, Debbie. Now the hair cut was ok. U can't ask me how I want my hair cut, look at one picture and know how to do it. I should have know at that moment to just wait until my stylist at Zen was available. My hair was not styled in the same way as the picture I showed her. It ended up much much longer, it was hard to tell how short she had cut the sides so my hair is actually shorter on one side of my head than the other! This is why I hate when they use electric clippers. Now I have to go to my stylist to have them straighten out this mess. **Long story short if u want a BASIC guys haircut done carelessly in a rush and don't care what it looks like then this is still an over priced alternative. Parts of hair I told them not to cut they took inches off, and everything was uneven and poorly done, I assume because they tried to rush me to get a last minite client, well it showed. They did not listen to what I wanted done to my hair at all. I will have to wait months for it to grow out for a repair cut. I would not have the staff touch my hair again. read more

This was the only salon around that actually takes walk ins. All the other salons say they do but usually they make you make an appointment to come back later. It was very frustrating for me because I needed a quick fix and was on a very tight schedule. When I walked in, the ladies there were very nice and welcomed me. I just wanted a haircut and it was $20, which was exactly my budget. The place was very clean and it looked nice. One of the ladies, Janelle was the one to cut my hair and she was really friendly. She took a while to cut my hair but it was because she was trying to make sure I was completely satisfied....and I was. I'm very happy with my hair and this was the best side bang cut I was ever given! I'm usually not super happy with my bangs at other places but now I'm very proud to show them off. What I really appreciated though was the way they dealt with my friends. I had a group of three come along with me and I'm sorry to say they were a little embarrassing and fussy about getting drinks. The ladies dealt with them very professionally and happily and got them all what they wanted even though they weren't the ones getting cuts. They even talked to all of them so I had a pretty good time! Overall I'm very happy with this place! I love this place!! There are two hair stylists, I've gotten hair cuts from both and I've never had a bad cut! They both have almost 30 years of experience and really know how to cut hair and style to make you look your best! The prices are amazing - cheapest cut in town with that high of quality. They give a good men's cut ($18). They have jelly beans, cookies, and coffee available for you when you arrive to pass the time. The workers were friendly, and there was a nice atmosphere there. The one possible problem is that they spent most of my cut talking amongst themselves. While that's not a problem for me, others might not like is so much. I was really unhappy with my experience here. I asked for natural looking, ashy blonde light, face framing lifts. The hair dresser left foil in for almost an hour and I got really chunky, streaky highlights that are way too bright all down my part. Looks like something from the 90's. I have never in my life been spoken to so rudely by an employee. I called to make an appointment to get my hair dyed, and I asked if it was okay to bring my own dye (I buy a specific color that is temporary). The person on the phone immediately said "why would you do that?" And then continued to argue with me saying that it is unreasonable to bring my own and that no salon would color my hair for me if I brought my own dye. Which is completely unture because I've been to several salons that will do exactly that. She told a coworker, while i was still on the phone, that some girl wanted to bring her own dye and then laughed. Naturally I told the woman that I had changed my mind and no longer wanted to get my hair dyed at Hair N Motion, she responded with "yeah, well we don't want to dye your hair either."
