After leaving my hair alone for four years, I decided to take the plunge. After a failed appointment with another place, I asked Siri for "hairstylist near me" and Jaymee popped up. After looking at her Yelp pictures and reviews, I decided to go ahead and book my appointment. (Love how easy it was, btw!) Now the salon is at Salons by JC, so do not go to jc penny's like I did at first! Once there, Jaymee immediately put me at ease by giving suggestions and asking questions about what I wanted (to chop off inches and color a balayage). The process took a few hours, so if you're going for this, be sure to block off an afternoon. I really appreciated that she scheduled enough time for me and didn't overbook. She worked on me and only me, which I loved! When she finished styling my now shorter and highlighted hair, I took one look and said, "I have Pinterest hair now!" She made me look amazing!!! I've been to Jaymee's twice, the first for a cut and the second for a cut and highlights. I have curly long (touches my belt) hair that is very difficult to work with. I really really loved my cut both times. I was a little disappointed in my highlights though. One side of my head had more bleached than the other and there were a couple spots in the back that were left without toner applied. I ended up dying it back to brown. I think this probably resulted from my long, curly, difficult hair, because I've seen photos of her other clients' results that looked great. read more

To be honest, I was a little nervous about booking an appointment. I'm pretty picky with my hair, but I was now in San Antonio and I wouldn't be headed back to PA anytime soon . . . so I needed to try somebody. Jaymee certainly had GREAT reviews here on Yelp, but the pictures were all of women. They certainly looked great, but could she do a guy's haircut? I was a little confused by the address. Jaymee's business is located INSIDE a larger building that essentially rents spaces to salons. So, when you walk in, you've got sundry salons in little studios up-and-down the hall. So, the address on Yelp corresponds to this building. Unit 36 is the space inside the building where Hair Matters is located. As you enter the building, it's essentially in the far right-hand corner. Her shop, as you might surmise, is relatively small . . . I think there was only three stations: two for cutting and one for washing. Jaymee herself is young, and she had an almost Californian feel to her. She looked like she would be just as content sitting on a beach somewhere as cutting my hair. She's very friendly, and she's very easy to talk to. If you're looking for a very formal, stodgy place to get your hair cut, this place clearly is not for you. That said, she honestly did an excellent job. In particular, I can have a bit of a cowlick if my hair isn't cut properly. I pointed out to Jaymee where it normally occurred, gave her a bit of direction on length, and she produced a great hair cut. Would I go back again? Absolutely. read more
