I booked an appointment at Hair #1 Salon with Mrs.Nguyen for a burgundy/maroon color on my long, healthy black hair I had walked in w. I showed her a reference photo, and she even pulled out her color book to confirm the exact shade. I clearly chose the color I wanted. When she finished, my hair was bright red not the shade we agreed on. She then told me she ran out of the original dye because I have a lot of hair, so she decided to use a different red without asking me. That was extremely upsetting. This is not my first time getting my hair done, and I know what I asked for. I told her it needed to be fixed and asked how much she was charging. She said $300. I was in disbelief and honestly started crying because I could not go to work like that. I felt unheard and very uncomfortable. While correcting it, she dyed my hair back to brown/black (close to my natural color), but she had an attitude the entire time. She was pulling my hair aggressively, and when I told her my scalp was burning, it didn't seem to matter. My head was on fire. At the end, she insisted I pay the full $300. I felt pressured and didn't want conflict, so I paid and left feeling worse than when I walked in. The owner was present the entire time and did nothing. I left with damaged hair, a burned scalp, and regret for trying a new salon. I would not recommend this place. -0 stars read more

Horror digital perm alive. Hair number one performed the worst nightmare. I came in with long silky hair hopping to boost the curl asking the digital perm. Walked away with charted hay texture hair which they chopped majority of all dead hair not by my choice. Hair number one does not have the proper equipment and knowledge to provide service. I wish they understand their own limitations and reframe from hurting client. One star is given because they were apologetic. Unfortunately, this level of damage is beyond imagination. Not only were they hospitable, but the man who cut and colored my hair was on another level! I've been to many Salons like Blake Charles in SF and these two are on the same level with cut and color. Please go to them if you would love to have superb work done on your hair. I did not get any service done after waiting 2 hrs at the salon! I came here for coloring and an appointment was made 2 weeks ago , I showed up on time and yet there was only 1 hairdresser, working with 1 client. He finally attended to me after 35 min and asked what I need to do. 5 min later he chopped off a few strands of hair to test out if my hair can be bleached. Since then, I waited 2 hrs surfing on my phone. The hairdresser never apologized to me or acknowledge me on when he would be able to get to me or what s the cause of this conflict. Today I went here to have my hair done. I been going to this hair salon for 2 years now. And never fail me about my hair cut that I wanted. So I always want Ms Minnie to cut and have my hair done with. I trust her a lot when it comes to my hair style and colors. Last 5 months ago I had her cut my hair short and I was so happy with it. Now my hair got longer again I went to her to do my hair cut and do my colors. I showed her what hair style I want and she never disappoint me ever. The colors are amazingly beautiful with the hair style she did. She spent like 3 hours doing my hair she was so focused and into it to work with me. It's just so amazing and I'm so happy for my hair..I can tell more about her work and everything but a page it won't be enough lol. I have a cycle of growing my hair and eventually chopping it off to donate it. I just trim it every few months to get rid of the split ends. I was really close to being at the right length to donate. I just needed a couple more trims over a few more months. So I stopped by this place (I was already in the area) and I asked for a blowout and to trim only a couple inches off. I sat down and was surprised to see the lady pull out her hair straightener and clippers.. she ended up chopping off about half the length of my hair (without the blowout) and when I got up and said "this is really short," she responded with "it looks better that way." I should've followed my guts. I was so close to donating! I don't think she did a bad job. It's just the complete opposite of what I asked for. read more

Sweet workers but terrible job coloring my hair. They were done prepping my hair, but didn't rinse me out till an hour later (they were busy and got occupied doing other people's hair). My head was burning for an hour, it was torture! It was one of the worst feelings ever; I seriously wanted to cry! It makes me wonder what type of products they use because usually when I have my hair colored, it's never this painful.. Anyways, when they finally rinsed me off, my head was soo sensitive that it was painful just having it shampooed and massaged. Also, they gave me a totally different hair color. I wanted medium ashy blonde, but they colored me dark dark brown; almost black. And they left stains all over my hairline. I wanted to complain, but I didn't want to be tortured again. Plus, my scalp was badly burned so it's not like they can redo it anytime soon.. I'm highly disappointed and I will never return again. My scalp still hurts... just running my fingers through my hair and touching my head lightly is so painful. ***Update*** They burned my scalp so badly that I have sores and it's also flaking. The salon that fixed my hair noticed it and felt so bad for me that they did such a terrible job AND burned my scalp. read more

Minnie is amazing! She has such a cute funky style...very hip chick. I have long hair...and VERY protective of my locks. I was desperately in need of a good haircut. (It had been over a year...I know bad..right??) Anyways...Minnie did an amazing job! She really took her time which eased my nervousness. Needless to say...she will now be my go to fixer upper! When I went into the salon my hair was about an inch past my shoulders when I came out of the salon my hair is at my chin comma I don't quite understand that how that is keeping the length of my hair. Every time I come here I am never disappointed. Eva, the owner, always does an amazing job. A few months ago I went to see her so she can get rid of this color I had in my hair.. I am never using boxed dye again, btw. She had so much patience with me and she multi tasked with me and other clients (which I was fine with) She even stayed after hours just to do my hair too. And just yesterday, I went in for a cut and once again, she has worked her magic and cut my hair the way I wanted... I went to great clips before and they had no idea how to do layers and Eva does. Minnie has been cutting my hair for over a year now. I discovered her at Claremont Hair Salon and haven't looked back - I love her so much that I'm commuting all the way to San Leandro to have her cut my hair. About the haircut - I get more compliments about my haircuts than I've ever had in my life. At least once a day (within the first 2 weeks) somebody will ask me - "who did your hair, and where are they located?" She takes her time to get the fade just right on both sides. She knows how to layer my hair and take off the weight. She's a perfectionist and won't stop cutting until it's right. I showed her a picture a year ago of the look I wanted and now I have that. I have complete trust in her that I literally sit back and let her do what she wants. About Minnie - she's cool, she's hip, she's artistic, she's sweet and honest. I always leave feeling better than I arrived, not just because of the cut, but because her personality is just enjoyable to be around. The price is incredible too - I was paying close to $50 for a cut in SF that wasn't even close to as good. She's less than 1/3 of that price and in my opinion could be charging way more if people knew where to find her. -MW read more

Got my haircut here a few times. Eva is the owner here and is a very nice lady. I'm the type of guy who just wants a quick trim and not really into getting some kind of fancy complicated haircut. So when I go here I tell her what kind of cut I want and she does it really quick and to the point without any mistakes. She also makes sure what I want and asks me what kind of fade or taper I want in the sideburns or back. It doesn't seem to get very busy here but try to call ahead of time for an appointment or to check if she has any time. $12 for mens haircut isn't bad either. Recommended! read more

This was the best expierience i have ever had at any hair salon! This place seems like a little hole in the wall but be sure not to judge a book by its cover. Very friendly staff & very attentive to your needs. I got my hair done somewhere else and it was completely jacked up! The layers were uneven everywhere, it was such a ugly choppy look. I live down the street so i decided to stop by to see if anyone could save my hair and try to fix it or make it somewhat decent again. Anna was the one to help me and wow she did such an amazing job. I recently just got a trim here and I thought my trim wouldn't cost that much because I didn't want her to take off that much length. I don't know her name but she was the lady with short red curly hair. She took like around 15-20 minutes cutting my hair which didn't end up bad. I asked her to give me a v-shape haircut with a little layer but don't take off too much length and she did exactly that. But after she was done she told me it costed $35 which I thought was ridiculous because she didn't even cut off that much. She told me she charged me that much because I had long hair which doesn't even make sense considering the fact that she didn't even cut off that hair so that was an invalid excuse. Honestly I think she just took advantage of me cause I was young and that's pretty shady, but I didn't want to cause a scene or start an argument so I just paid and left. When I told my aunt about how much she charged my aunt was heated and felt sorry for me because they took advantage of me. During the summer I went to a place by my house to get an actual haircut which costed me $22-$25. The person that cut my hair during the summer gave me layers and a v-shape too. On top of that she cut off like 10 inches of my hair and only charged me $22-$25. But this place charged me so much for a trim. She only took off like 1-2 inches and charged me a ridiculous price for it. Anyways I don't think I'm going to ever come back to this place because I felt like they took advantage of me cause I was young and they probably knew I wouldn't say anything. I'm pretty easy going when it comes to getting my hair done a certain wAy. I've been to many salons and still have not found one that I have been loyal to. I guess it true you get what you pay for. This is your typical cheap Asian hair salons who cuts everyone's hair the same way. I've been to many before and they have not messed up my usual long hair layers as badly as this woman did. I wanted a simple one color dye and a trim. You don't have a be a color specialist or anything to dye someone's hair I thought. Boy was I wrong! I wanted a medium ash brown as I had pointed out to her and after an hr my hair turned out more like a dark brown! I asked her why my hair was darker than I wanted and she started making excuses like its the lighting in here and that she actually gave me one or two degrees lighter than what I wanted which was total BS. I know what ash brown looks like and this was almost black. What's worse is what she charged me for a trim (shorter than I asked for) and color. I could have gone to better salon and paid the same for what she charged me and I would have been happier. I'm so disappointed and would NEVER come back. read more
