(A perm that will give me soft curls rather than ringlets.) $220 for a trim and digital perm, took two and a half hours. I think Sue did a great job, I just got the perm today, so we'll see how it looks in 2 days when I wash it. I felt that Sue was very meticulous and precise. I've had my hair cut at Hair Sketch about 5 times now and it's been mostly positive. I've walked out more times than not feeling good about my hair cut. Yesterday, I had an appointment with May to get my hair colored before I was going to take some family photos this weekend. She said she could trim my hair too and I didn't fight her on it. The hair color came out great, but I wasn't sure about the hair cut. She had styled it before I left and I liked the airiness of the cut at first, but when I showered today, I thought it looked like I had a mullet :( I called this morning to see if I could get it fixed and I got an appointment at 2pm. I saw Anna and as I explained what I didn't like, she seemed to understand the issue. She sent me off for a shampoo and then showed me some photos to make sure she knew what I wanted (which I appreciated ). She worked quickly to cut the offensive mullet and transition the layers more naturally. While my hair is a lot shorter than I wanted it to be, I am so glad I went back to get it fixed. Next time I book, I'll plan to see Anna. Made a same day last minute appointment to get all over hair color here. Staff was very accommodating and got me in within four hours of calling! I was shown a color book of what I wanted and if it would be feasible to achieve the color or not. 90 min later my hair is all one color and saved from multiple box dyes over the last months. I went to this salon a couple of days ago to get a magic perm and I was so satisfied with my hair and service!! My hair is originally half curly and very very frizzy so I usually get magic perm once or twice a year. I have probably been to all the korean hair salons in the fairfax county area but I was never really satisfied to go back to where I went. They would leave my hair straight with no volume and my hair would be stick straight to my face (which makes it look like I have a big face). I would ask to put volume in my hair but they said that would be charged extra (as expensive it already is). I loved it here because the stylist I had, MAY said she adds volume to the hair with no extra charge. For the first time after getting my hair magic permed, I was very happy and satisfied with the results! She put volume to the top of my hair as well as slight c curls to the bottom as service. After I washed my hair it was perfect it has enough volume and I got a lot of compliments on my hair saying it isn't sticking to the side of my like the other times! I wanted to try it out because my husband was satisfied with his reasonably priced cut but.. Most places give you a wash/shampoo but that wasn't offered here. My hair cutter was on the talkative side which I don't prefer too. She tried to cut my hair shorter than I had wanted so I had to be "on guard" at all times. Haha. Had a wonderful experience here today. Walked in with super long, untreated hair -- was generally interested in getting a perm/exploring new hair styles. Sue was incredibly patient -- she explained the various perm styles available and shared her thoughts as to which lengths and styles might suit me and my lifestyle best. I ended up loving the results -- cut off about 5-6 inches, added layers, and got a wave perm. Sue was very attentive -- and I never felt rushed throughout the process (which took about 3-4 hours)! My boyfriend's dad was kind enough to pay for my perm as a gift. The ladies there looked at me with disgust and judgement not knowing the situation of why he was paying for me, I didn't speak any korean and only they did so of course nothing I said matter since no one understood me. Not only that but my perm was horrible, still straight after only one hour after getting it done, and he spent a lot on it which makes me feel horrible. Went back for another haircut and I asked for an appointment with May at 1:30. When I arrived, she was still working with another client so this time Anna cut my hair. I asked for a little bit of layers and she did a great job! She checked with me to see if the length was okay--it ended up being a little shorter since I asked for one more inch off pre-layering but it still turned out great! My haircuts here used to be $35 but there has been a $5 increase to $40 but they always do a good job so I don't mind the increase! read more

I got my hair done by Jio for the first time. Usually, korean hair stylists cut my hair shorter than I want them to but Jio kept my hair at the length I wanted. After getting a trim, I got my hair dyed ash brown which turned out nicely! Jio was super kind and kept conversations going. I discovered that she learned from a famous hair stylist in Korea. This is the only place I go to get my haircut. I actually get it cut from the male hairstylist (Jay) because he is very thorough and knows exactly how I want it to turn out. I've found that in other places, if they're busy, they'll rush through the end (especially the hair drying/straightening). Jay makes sure that my hair is properly styled before he lets me go. Admittedly, my haircuts with him can take longer than usual, but I definitely prefer his way. I had Sarah the last two times I went. My fourth visit, I decided to get a digital perm, since they were having a special in the newspaper for $100. Very good price! I do not know of any place around here that will do a digital perm for $100. I had Sarah and another lady who meticulously worked on my hair for a total of 2 hours. They were doing things that I did not notice was done on my hair the last time I had a digital perm (which didn't turn out so good at another place). I guess it was good, because my hair turned out looking wonderful! It was exactly what I wanted (like the picture I showed her). Since they put so much effort into my hair, I gave them a very generous tip for all the hard work they did. I highly recommend this place. I suggest googling some pictures of the hair style you want and show them to her so there's no miscommunications. I go to Jay every time and he does such a wonderful job on my hair. We've done trims, layers and even nailed chopping off my long hair to a pixie. He takes his time so cuts usually take about 45 mins to an hour but I don't mind. I appreciate that he wants to make sure he's making the right choices. Will continue going to him! The only thing that tends to be annoying is that even if you make an appointment they will ask that you wait because other customers were waiting too even though they didn't schedule an appointment. I think it's the whole Korean "Must respect our elders" idea. Find it disrespectful and rude for customers who call ahead. read more

I had a terrible experience. I went to the shop and showed a picture to give them better idea. The picture was not even a celebrity. She gave me very uncomfortable eyes and just try to make sure that she can not do it. I just got very minimal cut and came out with very wired feeling. I go to Suzy to get my hair trimmed, nothing fancy but she cuts my hair how I like it and she's nice. I call ahead usually an hour before. It would probably be pretty hard to communicate with the ladies here if you don't speak Korean at all. The one time I got my hair cut by one of the ladies here (not Suzy) without giving a preference for who I wanted, I was not satisfied. The cut was messy and just not well done. So I would say if you can find someone here who you like, it's a decent place to get a haircut. However, their price went up from $30 to $35 in recent years (not sure why), so that's something to consider. read more

We waited more than 3.5hours to be done since they were taking walk-ins in between our hair.
