Got a last minute appt with Jay to get my haircut from another salon fixed. Showed him a few photos for what I was thinking of. He recommended one that will work and I love the result. I can tell he is great at his craft and very meticulous. I found my hair person!!! They take cc payments with tip option so that was very convenient. They also take apple pay if that's your preferred method. The whole experience was wonderful from the beginning when I called to see if they had an opening. I have been to see Jay two times thus far for haircuts, and both times I was very happy with the results. I am extremely choosy about people who cut my hair, because I get it cut every 6 weeks and have for the last 50 years! This place is in a nice remote area of Chantilly! Plenty of parking as well. Pretty cozy indoors; nothing especially special; sort of a normal, everyday salon type feeling/interior. I was really looking for a modern haircut + service and this was the first time in years I switched salons since my previous one was not available on weekends. Service was extremely quick - especially for a full wash and full cut. The wash was quick - nothing extraordinary, the typical double head wash and few head squeezes. The cut was also okay. I did have to end up cutting chunk of strands that did get missed; wish I had taken a picture of! But I paid over $120 for a haircut + wash + tip; I feel like this would have been normal had the the experience been any better but I definitely did not feel it was that of worth. I've been going to Jay's for many years by now and I continue to go back. Their attention to detail and the care they provide to their customers is the main factor. The primary issue I've always had with hair salons is once the stylist regards you as a friend and regular customer, they start to become lazy and don't pay as much attention to detail. The complacently results in lower quality cuts where many areas of the head is not cut neatly. They start to rely more and more on the electric cutter. Jay, Eunice, Yui and the rest of the team do not take their patrons for granted. I've had many different styles of cuts from fades, man buns, perms, and others that I don't know the name to :). They do a great job It's been a salon I've stuck to the longest and believe they are great people and masters at their craft. read more

I can't come up with the proper words to explain the wonderful service I got from Jay at Jay's Hair Envy! I got the exact haircut, style, and color I wanted and asked for. I don't get any of the negative remarks people leave. From the moment I walked into the beautiful salon, I was treated like a queen! Jay's shampoo and massage were the best I have ever had in my life! Such care was taken, everything was explained before anything was started. The cut was precise and symmetrical. I got a Japanese magic straight and a cut. Jay did a great job doing the perm.....however he cannot cut hair exactly what you ask for. I have shown him a photo of what exactly I was looking for. He gave me the cut, however it was completely uneven. I asked for a straight cut. No layers, nothing textured, just a STRAIGHT cut. I left leaving them a 30% tip thinking my cut was STRAIGHT. I drove to my job and it was a total EMBARRASSMENT that all my coworkers has pointed out my cut was TERRIBLY done. It was cut like a U shape rather than straight like I asked. I called to let them know I was not satisfied with my cut. So they've asked me to come back to get it fixed. I had to drive all the way back thru traffic and just to get it cut wrong again. I've said multiple times, do not cut the front, I want it a straight cut. My hair was getting shorter and shorter, being lopsided and he still could not cut it correctly. His hands wear SHAKING and does not have STEADY HANDS. I've told him my hair is not even again and gotten way too short and its LOPSIDED. He couldnt see how uneven my hair was and continued to cut my hair even shorter! I've had enough of it. I left with a terrible cut. I shouldn't even have had to pay for the cut or even tipped him that 30% Completely felt like I've been robbed by money and hair.. Now I'm stuck with this embarrassing hair style. A little late review since I had my hair cut and color done by Leah mid-October. But I must say I can always tell how good a haircut is after I leave the salon and had a few washes at home and 'lived' with the haircut. My conservative layered hair it was done by Leah and she is truly a master. I hadn't been to a good hair salon in a long time -- I've been living in Florida and there are very few places that can cut Asian hair well. Leah diagnosed my hair (without being overly critical) and discussed about what I wanted to achieve, which was a low-maintenance, slightly volumizing haircut. She did exactly that, and also gave me a very thorough root coloring for my ever-speouting grays. leah ended up taking off about 3 inches which is I was scared of, but much needed. I had a lot of split ends. The salon is clean, sanitized and very comfortable. The appointment was a breezy to make. I was offered a tea or other drinks while I was getting my coloring done. My only slight hesitation was that my root coloring and haircut came out to be $165 prior to tip. Maybe I'm naive about salon prices but I thought this was expensive. There was no breakdown of which was for color or cut which I would have appreciated. I think Leah is very skilled so I still have her a 20% tip but I don't think I can come back for regular salon visit at that price point. Maybe 2 times a year. read more

Where other salons have failed, Jay's Hair Envy was not only able to meet but exceed my expectations. I used to go here for haircuts but recently I went to get my hair bleached and LOVED IT. All the staff were soo nice and professional. They listened to what I wanted and gave me options that were best for my hair condition. My hair was already a little dry and damaged due to over the counter hair dye, but they managed to bleach my hair without overly damaging it and still got the results I wanted! I was able to get in an appointment last minute, due to a client cancelling, with Leah. Two days prior, I had gotten my hair colored at another salon, and walked out with jet black hair. I was very very very upset about it and came to Jay's to get a color correction done. I had a positive initial reaction, thanks to the receptionist being so thorough and empathetic over the phone. Leah did a great job explaining to me the color correcting process and gave me fair warning about the bleaching process. She made it clear that I most likely cannot obtain the color that I want, which I appreciated. With color correction, I feel like it's hard to walk out happy with the results. But look, I walked in with jet black hair *emphasis on the jet black*, and she did her best. Overall, the entire staff was hospitable and transparent. I got my hair toned and balayaged into an Ash Brown color and I love it!!!!! Using my virgin hair, it took about 3 hours in total! Beware of the price! They charged me $80 (not including tip) for a very basic women's haircut, with no shampoo and no styling at all. Leah finished the cut in less than 30 minutes. THIS REVIEW IS ONLY FOR COLOR: Honestly, it's really difficult to write a bad review when the people are nice but I have to put up this post for those who will come here because of the 5 star reviews, just like I did. 11 days ago, I walked into Jay's excited to dye my hair ash brown. Having asian hair that had been dyed once, Eunice gave me a choice - I would either have to compromise the integrity of my hair for the lighter ash brown I wanted or settle for a more medium ash brown and go easier on the bleach. I chose the latter. After commenting that my hair was taking well to the bleach, she took a look at my hair and asked, "you said you wanted light, right?" and I responded "yes" - naturally assuming she meant the light ash brown I told her I wanted, and showed her a picture of, earlier. Turns out what she meant by "light" was bright, golden blonde. I didn't realize exactly how blonde it was until I got home and immediately messaged them back for a color correction. They were really great about responding and saw me the very next day. Unfortunately, the correction was not enough - I specified that I just wanted it to be as NOT BLONDE as possible. My second dye left different shades of color all over my hair - some parts grey, blonde, brown, and red. Not only that, the integrity of my hair was shot - some parts just look fried. That's not all - It hasn't even been two weeks since my dye job and my hair is rapidly changing color. Despite using the anti-brass shampoo and not washing my hair to the point where it's borderline gross, my multi-colored dirty blonde hair is unevenly turning red from the roots and expanding quickly. Eunice and Yui were really nice ladies but my hair is a hot mess right now and I'm straight up embarrassed to put my hair down. That just doesn't feel great when you're out $200+ and lost 6+ hours of your weekend. To their credit, they tried to help me as much as they can but it is obvious that color is not their forte. There is definitely a chemistry and timing to dying that wasn't fully taken into consideration. read more

I have always had long hair. On my birthday I decided on a whim to get it cut short and permed. I only had a few hours before a dinner reservation, so I started looking for a salon, and Jay's caught my attention from all of the 5 star reviews. Boy do they deserve all of those stars! I called to see if there was an opening that day but was hesitant to go all the way to Chantilly because of my time restriction. Eunice patiently explained the time frame to get a cut and a perm and was so friendly even though I kept going back and forth on my decision. I finally decided to go, and turns out Jay had hurriedly eaten dinner so that he could work on my hair right away. He patiently listened to what I wanted, and then I let him work his magic. Service was amazing from start to finish, and everything was done in time for my dinner! It was my first time cutting my hair above the shoulders, so honestly, I did not feel very confident walking out of the salon. But Jay told me the perm would look best after a couple of washes. True to his word, a couple of weeks later, the perm looks awesome, and I am loving my hair! It's even easy to take care of; all I have to do is rub in some curling essence after a shower, and voila! Make sure you know the price before getting here. I cannot believe I was charged $70 for a basic women's haircut. And apparently they charge extra $10 depending on how long your hair is to begin with...it's just a cut, they dont have to use any extra hair product for a haircut so Im not sure why this was applied. I just feel a bit ripped off. I guarantee you can get the same haircut anywhere else in NOVA area for $45 or less. Given it was my fault for not asking in advance, but the pricing is just ridiculous and what you get for the price is def not worth it. I went to a couple of places in the area to add styles with layers & face framing for my long hair, but I left disappointed. When I found Jay's Hair Envy through Yelp and browsed their website to see all the services they offered, I decided to give them a try. Scheduling an appointment was so easy. I did it through Yelp and Eunice, the Salon Manager was very responsive and informative. I booked with Jay, the Master Stylist, to do a cut and color. I had not colored my hair in the last 10 years but I was ready for a little makeover. When I arrived, both Eunice and Jay did a detailed consultation to make sure they knew what I wanted. I wanted to do some subtle highlights for my dark colored hair and they didn't try to upsell me to do full highlights. They recommended that by doing partial highlights, I would achieve the look I wanted without spending the extra bucks. I really appreciated their honesty! The whole experience was very pleasant from start to finish. Everyone was very friendly and professional. The salon was clean and organized and had a great ambiance. The prices were fair. I was very apprehensive about finding a new stylist after all that time. But I found Jay's, so near my new apartment, made an appointment and had my hair cut by Leah. It turned out great, and I've been coming back for over 2 years now. Recently, I decided to make a change with my hair color and had Leah do a balayage on me. Make sure you know the price you're paying before you get your hair cut! I got my hair cut and it was nothing that I asked for. All I wanted was a trim (about 1-2 inches off), but I received long layers and my hair thinned out and more than 2 inches cut off. I love my thick hair and didn't ask for any thinning. And I told the hair dresser it took me more than a year to grow out my hair and that I'm still growing out my hair.
