This place is a hidden gem. The place is cute as you can see by the pics and the people there. The owner Donna and the make-up and other hair stylist there, Christina are both very nice and professional. This place does Brazilian blowouts which is a hair straightening technique that isn't as damaging to the hair as other techniques such as Yukko. Also, unlike Yukko, there is no need to flat iron your hair ever! I didn't have that done yet but a friend of mine did recently and her hair is gorgeous! I'm envious of her! Anyways, I was there recently and had my hair styled by Donna and I was happy with the results-:) The prices are reasonable. As for the negative review that Trish wrote, I disagree with her. I've only been here once and will go back although it is a bit out of my way. My experience there was nothing but positive. STAY AWAY FROM HERE! I just had the absolute worst experience of my life here. The owner of this so-called business is rude, nasty, and has absolutely no talent when it comes to cutting and styling hair. Maybe if she was capable of LISTENING to what her customer wants, instead of being a nasty stuck-up jerk. Maybe. I am hesitant to publish a review here, but I feel like it's my duty to take the role of 'cautionary tale.' It's worth the read. Communication is so important in the business of beauty. Also important, being honest about stylist ability and comfort in their work. So that being said, this is what happened. I went into the salon with long, blonde ombré hair I had about 7 or 8 inches of virgin hair that was my natural, light brown and made a natural ombré. My hair fell just above my butt. When I came into the salon, I wanted two things: to leave my virgin hair untouched, and to weed out the darker/ ginger tones that were still scattered throughout the blonde in my ombré. It looked fine, but since I like the ashy blonde look the orange tones made it turn funky colors rather than toning properly. I wanted these two things to be accomplished via a balayage ombré (where lightener is painted onto the hair for a light and blended finish). Did I mention my mother is also a patron of this salon and made the appointment for me where she accurately described my wishlist? She did. Donna was confident that her apprentice, Shelby, was a great colorist and capable of accomplishing a successful balayage. As you may have guessed, Shelby sadly was not capable of this lightening technique. After the first shampoo, I took a trip to the bathroom where the towel wrapped around my hair fell to the floor, and I bore witness to the latter half of my hair the color of the inside of a banana peel and the texture of chewed gum. I panicked, and I hate confrontation, so I wrapped the hair back up and waited to see how Shelby would handle it. Well? She immediately pulled all my hair behind me, and within seconds gave me "a complimentary trim." She made sure to pick the hair up so I didn't see it. On the verge of tears now I tried to get her to take some responsibility (without being confrontational) so I ask her why my hair is breaking off. She deflects and says my hair was shedding anyway and that breakage always occurs with processing. Mortified, I text my mom who like I said, is also a patron and knows Donna well. I let her know that both of the stylists present had witnessed the catastrophe and were seemingly alright with letting me leave like that. My mom ended up calling the salon, which resulted in Donna getting in my face to say "you're not helping anyone by texting your mom." True Donna, but harsh to a woman whose hair your salon has just ruined. Listen guys, more than half of my virgin hair was bleached, nay, nuked; and even now I've got blunt lines of demarcation. My virgin hair was also covered in bleach spots from spotty application. Supposedly my stylist used Olaplex, which I have had WONDERFUL results with previously on lightening hair. I suspect Shelby did not properly use the system, as I can't markedly remember her applying the 'last step,' the step that makes the whole process work. So once my mom got involved, and the reason why I've attributed this review with two stars, is that they made efforts to fix it. Seven and a half hours later, my virgin hair has either been bleached or dyed brown to cover the bleach. I've lost upwards of 6 inches of length, and despite a complementary Olaplex repair treatment, my long, beautiful, healthy hair is gone. They also toned it which came out patchy as well, as the top half of my blonde is ashy silver and the bottom, yellow. Spots can still be seen on my virgin hair beneath the dye and will no doubt surface again once is begins to fade. What was I charged for this experience you may ask? $200. I paid $200 of the $200 I spend per year to get my hair done to have it completely ruined. I'm not saying stay away from this salon, they DID make efforts to fix it. But along the way opportunities for responsibility were passed on, successful communication and/ or understanding did not occur, and abilities were grossly overestimated. I am completely devastated about my hair, as it now feels like a cheap wig, and I will not so easily let anyone do it ever again I'm afraid. Do any and all research necessary guys! read more

I've been a client of Donna Schumacher, owner of Hair Techniques for many years, first when my disabled son was very young. She has this cute tractor seat, perfect for fidgety kids and that seemed to entertain him while she skillfully trimmed and styled his hair. It is a day of luxury when I go for my treatment. She or her assistant offer me something to drink, and they are very friendly and sociable. Donna always remembers exactly what formula she uses to turn me from a drab, matronly m'am to a stunning beauty! She always pays careful attention to detail and always asks about my family. The worst experience I have ever had at a salon! Sat in the chair to have Kim cut my hair to donate it and should have gotten out of the chair when the owner had to come over and show her how to do it. After 20 minutes of her trying to give me a style I told her to stop cutting. I have curly hair and had asked her to not cut straight across which she kept doing. When I told her it was the worst hair cut she became verbally assaulting and told me to go to Super Cuts to have them finish it. The owner Donna had to finish my haircut with the hair that was left and then she charged me full price!!! Being a business owner myself I know this is not how you treat customers and Kim should have been fired on the spot! If there was a rating of zero I would have given that! read more

I have been getting my hair cut in the city since forever...but when I heard this salon recently got a great new stylist named Randa, (based on good reviews from my friend) I decided to check it out. All I have to say is THANK GOD I found her, Randa is a super sweet sheer genius (no pun intended) :-). She really listened to what i wanted and took the extra time to blow and style afterwards ( I got an angled layered bob that i like super straight). I immediatly made a appt to have her color my hair the following week (everyone was saying what a color genius she is), and needless to say i loved the results! She really took the time to discuss options with me and lay out the best plan. She ended up putting super thin low/and highlites into my hair to give it some dimension while keeping it blonde. It came out looking natural and great, she is a true perfectionist. (The salon owner is very nice too, they even stayed open late for me so i could get a cut after work) So happy to have discovered this Pacifica Gem! read more

I have been going to Donna to get my hair done for about 10 years now. She is by far the best. I usually get a cut and highlight and it always comes out the way I want it. I just received a brazilian blow out which is the new way of temporarily straightening your hair. It's amazing! My hair is so straight and I dont even have to blow dry it! I just brush my hair and let it air dry. She did a wonderful job. I always recommend her to everyone I know and I have received many compliments! Thanks Donna! :) read more

My last hair salon closed when the owner retired, and I searched for 2 years before I found Donna. I have straight hair with a simple cut, but could not get it from the 6 other salons I tried, even at expensive Maiden Lane places in San Francisco. Donna listens very well, is skilled, careful, and quick, and has a great customer-service attitude. A very pleasant full-service salon -- with an ocean view to boot. I just had a wonderful first experience with Donna at Hair Tecniques. I was so nervous about seeing a new stylist after having gone to mine for 15 years. I desperately needed a cut- as in totally new style- and highlight touch up. I saw Donna based on a referral and I'm so glad I did. She is as sweet as can be and listened to what I had in mind, but also explained to me different options I hadn't even considered (since I was totally open to her professional opinion). I went with what I was comfortable with and she did a fantastic job!! It's a great feeling to be comfortable and happy with with your hair AND hair dresser. Thanks Donna! I am so happy with the job Donna did on my hair! The salon is spacious, cute and has a view of the ocean. There is plenty of parking. Donna is so super sweet, easy to talk to and is very knowledgable about hair and products. She explained the glaze process and recommended I have a little fun- so I have a little bit of purple undertones which gives dimension to the glaze in the light. She did a fantastic job waxing my eyebrows, told me where I have to let them grow in if I want them fuller again. For fun she put some eyebrow shadow in them and what a difference. I ended up buying the product and she taught me how to do it. We were not rushed at all which I loved! Donna took her time and it was a great first time experience. I will be going back to her from now on. She even referred me out for hair and make-up for an event I have and I have that appointment already scheduled. I've learned long ago if you don't have something nice to say don't. Well I will have to break that rule. I use to go to Hair Techniques and hated every minute of it. The owner Donna is rude, loud and abrasive plus she treats customers like she's doing them a favor. She constantly talks about other customers in front of you. So you know when you left you could count on her to talk about you. I was so happy when I found a new salon and forget about that Brazilian Blowout unless you want your hair to fall out. read more

We were looking for someone to cut our son's hair. He just over a year old at the time. Our friend asked around and came back with a recommendation for Hair Techniques - specifically Christina. We thought we would give it a try, and the added bonus was that the salon is in Pacifica and so are we. Our son is very shy and he didn't warm up to Christina, but he did allow her to cut his hair. She has done an excellent job every single time, and is very patient with him (he never cries , but he's just very shy and doesn't talk to her or smile at her). He is now 2 years and 5 months and she is only 1 of 2 people that have cut his hair (the other one is in Hawaii when we visit my family). For someone that doesn't have children of her own, she is very patient, and quick (you have to be with the little ones). She seems to be the designated stylist in the salon for cutting kids hair and does a great job at it while keeping her sanity! I commend her for enjoying what she does and doing a great job at it. We highly recommend her to those with little ones! read more

My experience with the owner Donna is hands down the worst customer service I have ever received ! When I returned with questions about the hair services I received ( after spending almost $200 on hair services) Donna became very defensive, unprofessional and rude and started rationalizing why my hair looked that way it did. At one point she said to me, "What do you want ME to do about it?" She did not take any responsibility for improving the situation, but instead focused on how she had given me a great deal so if I wasn't happy, oh well too bad? very disappointing... I would advise anyone who cares about customer service, quality work and follow through on what they say they are providing for you to stay clear of this establishment. read more

I have been seeing Christina for years at this quiet little funky salon. She is amazing, quick, efficient AND proficient! Recently, I had Donna, the owner cut my hair, and it was a perfect cut. This salon is warm and very friendly, just enough foo foo. If you are in a hurry you can come and go quickly, if you need some "me" time and want to chat and have something to drink they offer that too. They are reasonably priced. Christina Clyne did my wedding hair. I contacted Hair Techniques in July amongst other hair salons in the area for my November wedding. Christina called me back immediately and sent her prices to me directly. (The other salons took a few days to respond). Christina sounded very friendly and was excited at the opportunity. She agreed to do my wedding on a weekend the rest of her co-workers had off (Thanksgiving). I wasn't able to afford the "before" appointment, so she was working with my hair for the first time on my wedding day. She arrived at the wedding location earlier the appointment-time and didn't mind waiting around for a minute until my bridesmaid and I were ready to have our hair done. When she finally worked on my hair, her creation was beautiful, and she did it more quickly than I expected was possible. I look at all my wedding photos and love it. I'm so glad I didn't have to worry about that piece of the puzzle on my wedding day. read more
