I came a few minutes early and was seen right away, with no wait. I asked Emily what she thought I should do with my hair and she said she really liked my current cut and suggested a trim, taking off a half-inch. I was pleased with her honest judgement: I had gotten a cut in Montreal a few months back and was very happy with the cut except it was overgrown. She trimmed it quickly yet skillfully, blow dried my coarse wavy hair into a flattering style and then trimmed and textured the ends so the cut lays well. Best of all, my hair looks great even when I don't heat-style it. Dried naturally, the waves are nicely layered and just seem to fall into place--a sign of a good cut. I've tried a lot of places in Elmhurst, but this is the first place where I've gotten a great cut at a reasonable price ($35 with first-time customer discount, not incl. tip). This isn't a cutting-edge, hyped up salon--it's a comfortable, relaxed place, mostly patronized by middle-aged moms like me (as far as I could tell from my weekday afternoon visit). No frills, easy-going, no blasting music, no product-pushing. Just a great cut and great service. I'll be back! Disclosure: I will receive a $20 discount (or 20%, I can't remember) for this review, but I'd give Emily and the salon five stars anyway!

My hair was so thin, that I couldn't get a hairdresser to agree to give me a perm for fear of losing my hair altogether. But Lisa gave me a perm and color on the same day. She was so confident that it would be fine, that I didn't worry. Boy, was she right. My hair looks amazing. I have not gotten compliments on my hair in years, until I went to Lisa. I have not once worn a wig since the day I stepped into her shop. My hair is healthy looking and I couldn't be happier. I can't recommend her highly enough. Paul's Barber Shop is the only place in the Chicagoland area that has touched my hair since 1993…read more During that time, I think the price for a haircut has only gone up $5 (currently $15 for an adult cut). Paul is old school Italian, the way a "classic barber" should be. In its heyday, the shop had three barbers to suit your needs; now Paul is a one-man show. No flash here, just efficiency. We've been together through thick and thinning (See what I did there?) There is a tv here, but the focal point is good conversation. Trust me, get Paul fired up on something, and you'll get plenty of it. I'm disappointed to find out that I'll have to go elsewhere once I'm ready to try my first barbershop shave (Paul stopped doing shaves a few years ago), but he doesn't offer service to just guys. Ladies can come in and have a shampoo and a cut as well. However, in the 18 years I've been coming to Paul, I've never once seen a woman getting her hair cut here. Paul's is class, top notch. A "cut" above the rest. Ok, I'm done now.
